Women’s A & B Report Cards

We are halfway through the season and a lot has happened, lots of wins, some upsets, surprises, etc. All teams have played half of their games (or almost depending on when you had your bye weeks). We’ll dive into the mid season report cards for Women’s A & B, we’ll be going through all teams in each division and see how they’re doing.

This article is inspired from Ignacio Valdes Manzanedo as I like the way he broke things down with the offensive, defensive and overall grading. The next part was written by him also which is well explained for you to understand where your grades are coming from. Enjoy !

Offensive/Defensive Grading Scheme

A: Outstanding offensive/defensive performance. You are the best at your craft and have proven it so far in 5 games. Offensively, you move the ball with ease and if you get stopped once or twice a game, I’m shocked. Defensively, I’m seeing 3-4 stops a game, and you’re averaging 1-2 interceptions a game. You are elite.

B: You are a good offense/defense. Offensively, you can drive the field for the most part, with a few hiccups each game. Because defense is hard, you are getting 1-2 stops a game and that is good in the women’s division where offenses know what they are doing for the most part.

C: You are an average/below average offense/defense. Your putting up 20-25 points per game and on defense, you barely get a stop in a given game. Your picks are lucky bounces off receivers hands.

D: You are really struggling on offense/defense. Your concepts don’t work at this level and you need to either revamp the plays or drop down a division.

Overall Grading Scheme

Whereas the Offense/Defense grades are basically saying whether you are good or bad, the Overall Grade is compared to expectations placed on your team relative to the beginning of the season. A “C” grade doesn’t mean you are a bad team, just that

A: Your team has greatly exceeded expectations. You are more likely to get this grade if you are a 3-2 team when you were expected to go 0-5 or 1-4, than a 5-0 team expected to go 5-0.

B: You have a good team, but you’ve slightly surpassed expectations. You either jumped a division and are sitting at 2-3 or so and staying competitive in games.

C: You are meeting expectations. I expected you to be exactly where you are at.

D: Severely under performing! You may have signed up in the wrong division

*Grading scheme from Iggy, ask his permission if you are looking to use it, thank you!

Quick parenthesis: Just to mention, the MVP were chosen from their offensive AND defensive performance, if the player chosen plays only one way then it was chosen from how their stats stand out from the rest, thank you. Also please read what your grade means! I’ve had a couple of people that tell me they don’t understand why they got a C for an overall…C means you’re doing good and you are where I expected you to be, thank you again.

Women’s A

Subzero (6-0)

Offensive grade: A

Defensive grade: A

Overall grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Sarah Cormier

They have won everything so far; I’m not surprised by their success. We all know Subzero is a strong team; they practice together and have been playing with each other for a while now. This synergy is evident on the field: they run their routes correctly, communicate well on defense, and are always in the right positions. It almost looks easy when they play. Maybe they need a new challenge?

Cayenne (4-3)

Offensive grade: A

Defensive grade: A

Overall grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Rosalie Landry

They are another exceptional team, having played together for quite some time. The quarterback’s connection with her receivers is notable; they perform well both offensively and defensively. However, their ultimate challenge remains defeating Subzero on the field…will they be able to acheive this in the finals?

Matrix (2-4)

Offensive grade: B

Defensive grade: B

Overall grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Anne-Frédérique Tardif

They’re a team of standout players, each bringing incredible skills and talents to the table. With impressive athletes on both offense and defense, they execute their plays effectively. However, facing teams with established chemistry proves challenging, making wins hard-earned. Moreover, some of them will soon join the UdeM team, providing them with a fresh perspective of how Cayenne plays.

UQTR (1-6)

Offensive grade: D

Defensive grade: D

Overall grade: D

Mid-Season Team MVP: Athena Ryan

wouldn’t say they’re in the wrong division since they regularly face these opponents in their fall season. However, they do need to step up their game to score more touchdowns. This team includes rookies who are still adjusting to the dynamics. Perhaps having a knowledgeable sideline advisor could assist them during games. They might benefit from someone coordinating defense and offense. Yet, it’s challenging facing teams with Canadian championships and extensive experience. Despite this, they are progressing well as a team, though facing elite defenses who practice rigorously, presents its difficulties.

Women’s B

Red Nation (5-1)

Offensive grade: B

Defensive grade: B

Overall grade: B

Mid-Season Team MVP: Emma Townsend-Asselin

The team’s game scores are intriguing. While they’ve won nearly all their games, the scores reveal they haven’t always scored heavily against certain opponents, unlike others who have scored more against those same teams. Is this a deliberate strategy to show mercy rather than dominate, or were they genuinely unable to score more touchdowns? If the latter, opponents could exploit this weakness and potentially secure victories. Despite this, their primary focus is on winning games, which is paramount. With their extensive experience in the league and numerous championships, I anticipate they’ll excel in the playoffs due to their proficiency.

Wolfpack (5-0)

Offensive grade: A

Defensive grade: A

Overall grade: B

Mid-Season Team MVP: Marielle Paradis

This team is truly impressive; they’ve exceeded my expectations, and I’m delighted to see their success! They’ve won all their games so far, maintaining strong competitiveness and minimizing points scored against them. Their strategic approach is clearly effective, consistently making crucial stops and scoring on most of their drives. Their upcoming rematch against Red Nation, whom they’ve already beaten, will determine if their victory was a stroke of luck or well-deserved. It’s a game to watch closely, as it’ll reveal who truly reigns as the queens of this division.

Hiboux (5-2)

Offensive grade: B

Defensive grade: B

Overall grade: B

Mid-Season Team MVP: Maelle Desrosiers

This team has returned with strong chemistry that shows on the field. They dominate lower-ranked teams in their division while keeping close contests with those of similar caliber. However, their match against Red Nation resulted in a scoreless outcome, highlighting Red Nation as a formidable opponent to overcome for playoff success. Perhaps it was an off day or they were missing key players? With no rematch scheduled, their next encounter with Red Nation will likely be in the playoffs. Hopefully, they’ll devise a strategy to improve and secure victory when that time comes!

Supernova (4-2)

Offensive grade: B

Defensive grade: B

Overall grade: B

Mid-Season Team MVP: Justine Daviau

Despite having two losses, this team is performing admirably. They boast exceptional talent on offense and defense, led by an experienced quarterback. Their cohesion, built over years of playing together, is evident on the field. With their current momentum and teamwork, they have a strong potential to make a deep playoff run. Additionally, their strategic intelligence shines through; they understand their opponents well and are likely to make tactical adjustments based on who they are facing, optimizing their chances of victory.

Les P’tites Miettes (2-2)

Offensive grade: C

Defensive grade: B

Overall grade: B

Mid-Season Team MVP: Esther Morin-Struthers

There’s been an interesting turn of events for Les P’tites Miettes. They’re winning against lower-ranked teams in their division but struggling against the top contenders. Currently positioned in the middle, it seems they may also end the season there. To secure wins against stronger opponents, they’ll need to step up their offensive game. They have talented athletes and an experienced quarterback leading the charge. With players like Magalie Ruel and others, they have the potential to increase their scoring. Perhaps refreshing their playbook could create strategic advantages and disrupt opposing defenses.

Les Boys (1-4)

Offensive grade: D

Defensive grade: D

Overall grade: D

Mid-Season Team MVP: Emile Lussier

One of the struggling teams in this division appears to be new or still adjusting to playing together. While they are putting points on the scoreboard, they are not yet at the level of their opponents. To improve their performance, particularly on defense, they may need to make adjustments to minimize their opponents’ scoring.

A-TOWN (1-5)

Offensive grade: D

Defensive grade: D

Overall grade: D

Mid-Season Team MVP: Amélie Lambert

As I mentioned, they are starting to find their rhythm! They’re a new team that needed practice against similarly inexperienced opponents to gain confidence and score. Starting out in Women’s B league can be challenging, especially building team chemistry. Therefore, witnessing their recent victory was really encouraging.

Wildcats (0-7)

Offensive grade: D

Defensive grade: D

Overall grade: D

Mid-Season Team MVP: Catherine Destin

I’m not very familiar with this team, but it seems they might be new to the sport, still adjusting to playing together, and perhaps their quarterback is just starting out and needs more practice. It could be a combination of all these factors. Most of their ratings being around 65 (the starting number) suggests they’re newcomers to this league. Nevertheless, they’re giving their best effort, showing up on the field and giving it their all. It can be tough to endure a string of losses, but I encourage them to stay positive and keep practicing. With time, they’ll gain a better understanding of the game and more experience to make impactful plays! 💪🏼
