Who would you choose?

The end of the season is fast approaching. We’re already in week 10, and only two more weeks remain before the playoffs are in town. A lot has happened this season—upsets, surprises, obvious wins, and more. Let’s take a look at what the teams have been up to since the last weeks.

Coed 1

Two teams are currently battling for the second seed in this division. Both Fitsquad and Balls Deep have a 6-2 record at the moment. They each have two games remaining, and their final matchup will be against each other. However, Balls Deep’s two losses were both to Fitsquad, while Fitsquad’s losses came against Kiss My End Zone. Based on this, I predict Fitsquad will secure the second seed, with Balls Deep finishing third.

Which Quarterback would I choose?

Looking at the stats, it’s clear that Benjamin Carli would be a strong choice. With 126 completions out of 204 attempts, 1 293 yards, and 36 touchdowns over 8 games, he’s had a solid season. However, he’s been intercepted 4 times and sacked 8. He’s an agile quarterback, hard to sack, and can always be relied upon to run if needed—his unpredictability makes him tough to defend against.

On the other hand, William Brouard has 93 completions out of 140 attempts, 1 053 yards, and 26 touchdowns in just 5 games. He has been intercepted 5 times and sacked twice. Like Carli, Brouard is also an agile QB who excels at scrambling before throwing.

Both quarterbacks are talented and similar in style, but their success largely depends on the performance of their receivers. Since women’s players are crucial in coed leagues, if I were to pit the Fitsquad women against the Balls Deep women, I’d lean toward Fitsquad’s side. Why? They’re more athletic, have more experience, and seem to be able to read the game better. Their experience helps them make big plays when it counts.

Looking at the defense, Fitsquad has Salim Tayae, a strong defender who gives 100% every play, whether the team is winning or losing. Their defense is well-organized, relying on communication and trust, and it shows in how well they perform, especially in critical situations.

Ultimately, I’d choose Fitsquad. Their quarterback, William Brouard, gives them a solid edge, and in a coed league, the quarterback is one of the most important players on the team.

Women’s

On the women’s side, Vortex has finished their season with a 9-1 record and is currently the second seed, likely to stay there since Subzero will win their last game and finish the season undefeated at 10-0. Both of these top teams should make a deep run in the playoffs.

As for the other teams, Red Nation, Mercenaries, and Les Brutes all have the potential to go far as well. They’re all seasoned teams with returning players, and they’ve come together again to fight for the championship. While they are in a division with usually Women’s A teams, it’s great to see them performing so well.

Underrated players?

Marie-Joelle Vandal, playing for Les Crocs this season, is an emerging star. Currently their top receiver, she has 11 touchdowns, 546 yards, and 42 receptions. She ranks in the top 5 among receivers, alongside some of the league’s best. Her height gives her an advantage, allowing her to reach balls that other players can’t. As an ex-soccer player, she’s also comfortable diving to the ground to make difficult catches. She’s a huge asset to her team, both on offense and defense, and is proving why she belongs at the top.

Frédérique Daoust, currently playing for Ghosted, is another standout. Agile and highly skilled, she knows how to read the field and be in the right place at the right time. Whether on offence or defense, she’s a shifty player who isn’t afraid to get into the action. Having played with EZFun in previous seasons, including at the highest level of coed, she’s developed the skills to outmaneuver defenders and avoid getting deflagged. She’s a valuable addition to any team.
