Who Has The Upper Hand?

Women’s A

With only 4 teams in Women’s Division A this season, the games and standings are likely to remain similar throughout the season, unfortunately. Since all of them are university teams or players now competing at the university level, the girls should be familiar with every team’s playing style. It is now up to them to strategize and attempt to impede the other teams’ offenses while capitalizing on their own opportunities.

UQTR

UQTR had a doubleheader this week; however, they were unable to score, although they did manage to obtain multiple first downs. They have enlisted Athena Ryan as their quarterback this season, and she is striving to make the most of her time. She is reading the defense effectively and placing the ball where it needs to be. However, it now falls on her receivers to catch those passes and utilize their agility to evade defenders and avoid having their flags pulled.

Subzero

While Subzero dominates against UQTR and Matrix, their matches against Cayenne (the UdeM team) are always close and fun to watch. It is always competitive with no negativity involved, just a friendly game between both teams. For Subzero, whether it’s a last-minute touchdown or a game that goes down to the wire, they consistently come through in clutch moments and secure those crucial points as we are seeing in this beginning of season. Both teams will be playing against 3 times during the regular season, therefore, only one more to go, and I can almost garantee that we will be seeing both teams in the finals…once again.

Matrix

Matrix comprises a group of girls who are either currently playing for UdeM or are future UdeM athletes. Élisabeth Ashkar undoubtedly knows her players well and, importantly, knows which plays to call on critical downs. They have multiple talent on the team; speed, hands, good route runners, which makes them a good challenge for any team out there.

Women’s B

Supernova

Supernova returns for another season with Florence Brault still at QB, connecting with her exceptional receivers. With 10 touchdowns in just 2 games and only 2 interceptions, their performance looks promising for this season. Despite winning their initial games by a significant margin, the question remains: are they excelling due to their own skill or due to facing less experienced teams? Their 31-7 victory against the Hiboux, who ended in high seeds last season, suggests they have the talent to defeat any team this season.

A-Town

A-Town has yet to secure a win. However, I believe they will develop chemistry over the course of the season, as it’s only week 3. They have exceptional players like Aya Faridi, who is a valuable addition to the Ahunstic family and the FPF team. However, I believe their goal is to practice together extensively so that when the cegep season begins in the fall, they are accustomed to each other and performing well on the field where games hold much greater importance. Therefore, as long as they gain confidence and cohesion, that’s what truly matters.

Les Boys

Was I mistaken about Les Boys? After praising them in the first week with a 24-0 win against the Wildcats, I anticipated more victories. However, they have suffered two losses since then with minimal scoring. There were a few changes at QB in those games, with Marilou not necessarily taking charge as QB. From the stats, it seems they experimented with multiple players on the team, yielding some yardage but not much else. The question remains: will they settle on a permanent QB to support them this season, or will they continue to rotate players for throwing duties?

Wolfpack

Another triumph for the Wolfpack, a team who has been in this ligue for a few seasons now. With 4 wins and 0 losses, they’re performing impressively and might indeed be the team to beat this season alongside Supernova. With only 8 teams in their division, if they can defeat every opponent, they stand a good chance of reaching the finals. Their real test will come on July 14th when they face Supernova, determining who holds the upper hand in this division.
