Weekday Quarterback (Div D) – Week 8

I know that I said last week’s article would be my last before I head on vacation but I thought it was necessary to write you guys a small piece so that you get your fill of FlagPlus Football for the week. I know how passionate some of you are about the league and the articles that we write, and you are entitled to quench your thirst for FPF information. We are now seven weeks through the season and in Division D it looks like the playoff teams are all but determined. Where teams will finish is a completely different story. I leave that to you guys to fight hard for, over the next couple of weeks before I even begin to predict who will win playoff matchups. If I have learned something from my time in this league it is that we should expect the unexpected because it is very rare that things go exactly according to the plan that we draw in our heads prior to playoff time.

Headlines

X-Men fail to find the marquee win they are looking for against Mongoose

The X-Men were looking to add one extremely impressive victory to their resume before the season close but Mongoose was not going to allow them to add their name to that list. Another very good performance from the young and athletic Mongoose team has put them in a great spot just before the playoffs arrive. Alex Gaudet had another strong performance behind center for Mongoose, throwing for 117 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jonathan Bedard added two touchdowns receiving to clinch the victory. The X-Men got good numbers from Gautama Swaminadahn and Nicholas Abelhauser as usual but it was not enough to get them in the win column. Can the X-Men win come playoff time when they will be facing all quality opponents? Right now I am beginning to doubt their ability to win big games. That being said they just need to get a few breaks because the talent is definitely there on this team.

Golden Eagles get back on track with dominating victory over the Snookers

Kevin Lubin was taking the snaps again for the Golden Eagles and I’m sure his team was happy that he was because he played an excellent game throwing for 4 touchdowns and 110 yards. The real story however is the fact that Golden Eagles defense held the Snookers to just 14 points in this game. Lubin is the kind of player who will find ways to put points on the board, but in order for the Golden Eagles to win they need to get good performances from their defense and this week they showed how effective they can be when they are playing well on both sides of the ball. Frederic Martineau had 3 touchdowns receiving for the Golden Eagles and added 2 sacks on the defensive side of the ball. The Snookers have been getting much better performances from their players over the past few weeks, but it just seems like their play is too little too late. They will be looking forward to the winter season in which they might get some reinforcements.

Eagles’ offence finds itself and thrashes the inconsistent Time Bombs

The Eagles continued their dominating run this season with a huge 68-6 win over the Time Bombs who were dealt a second crushing defeat in the past three weeks. It is hard to tell what exactly is wrong with the Time Bombs. You would expect more consistency out of a team with a few returning players. The Eagles will be happy to shut me up and they showed that not only is their defense extremely talented, but that their offense can score at a furious pace, as well. The great thing about this victory is that all the Eagles’ players contributed in different ways. It was not an individual effort in any sense and they truly got a complete showing. If the Eagles continue to get that kind of effort in the coming weeks, they will be unstoppable.

Patriotes bid for an undefeated season ended by the Tyrants

The Patriotes run for an undefeated season ended this weekend when they lost a close one to the Tyrants 20-19. Why am I not more excited to talk about this game? The Patriotes were without the best player in Division D who happens to play QB for them. The fact that this game was so close without Etienne Chauvin shows how dangerous this Patriotes team really is. The Tyrants should be extremely pleased with this victory because they came to play the game and they cannot control the circumstances of the victory. Players miss games and there’s nothing you can do about it, besides go out there and play like it’s any other week. Neither team was particularly impressive offensively but John Kaliotzakis made just enough plays for the Tyrants to get them the win. Karl Belati chipped in for the Tyrants with two interceptions and a defensive touchdown that likely was the difference in this game.
