Week 5
While the middle of February may mean cupid’s arrow, cheap heart decorations and expensive dinners and jewelry for some, in FPF it means Hall of Fame announcements. Each season, this sparks a ton of debate about who was selected, and perhaps more fervently, who was not selected.
I said on last week’s Calling The Audible during our nominee announcements (for anyone who missed the show and wants to catch up, here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2dSYo0zVZY) it is important that everyone has a different criteria when voting. This was we get a very well-rounded group and it is best representative of our league on the whole. Moreover, if we all voted the same way, there wouldn’t be a point at all.
Some people weigh championships heavily. This is particularly true of quarterbacks. Personally, this is a flawed process. Championships are impressive but the subject is cloudy. Some players may have won championships in a pre-cap era where lower and mid-division teams would stack their rosters in order to gain competitive advantage. In some cases, others may not have won championships because the teams they played on may not have been strong enough as compared to the teams that won the championships. Championships are also a flawed measure of individual success. The main reason for this is that they are actually a measure of team success. For these reasons, I don’t weigh this too heavily.
Individual awards are something that are impressive no matter the division. The case for those in the highest divisions is that the winners won the awards while competing against the most talented players in our league. However, those who won awards playing against a larger talent pool isn’t easy either.
Players career counting stats are important as well. I consider players who have produced at a high level for 10 seasons to be extremely important. There are many players who have impressive single season campaigns but don’t have an enduring resume. Ideally someone who has 10 Hall of Fame caliber seasons are those who should be represented in our HOF.
The greatest debate, one for which there is no true answer, is whether or not players who did not compete in division 1 belong in the Hall of Fame. My feeling is that this is a recreational league and some may choose not to play in the highest divisions. The cap makes it so that for those who have excelled for an extended period of time will be pushed into higher divisions over time. Furthermore this is a league that includes a variety of divisions, a co-ed league, a women’s league and FPF Jr. Our Hall of Fame is one that should serve as a museum of FPF’s history. This is to say, FPF as a whole. We would be ill-served if we did not approach the Hall of Fame in that way. This is why I draw the comparison most frequently to the Basketball Hall of Fame. That is a Hall that includes greats from the ranks of the NBA, WNBA, NCAA and international competition.
In my process, I often have Eagle send me a list of all the candidates stats and accolades without their names. I compile a short list and try to use this exercise so that I limit bias. Once the shortlist is comprise dI think of some intangible elements such as , how far along in the players development he is, any career defining moments etc.
In any case, we urge all staff, HOFers and community to cast their ballots. Now please take a moment to review this week’s power rankings and picks while I mull over my vote.
Power Rankings
The NFL season is done and the XFL is ahead of us. We may not know what to make of these less familiar teams but we know that we all can’t wait for the NFL to traffic in hope that is Free Agency, the Draft and the dream that Super Bowl 55 will belong to your team. In the meantime out pundits and experts have ranked your play and predicted your future. It begins with the weekly power rankings:
Division 6D
By Ignacio Valdez Manzanedo
1. Trojans (4-0): Even though the Trojans, and all of Conference A did not play a game, they remai top dog for a 5th week in a row. Reasons being, although I like what new teams like What Could Have Been, Les Studz and 7th Rounders have done, I still think the Trojans would come out victorious (although it would be an incredibly close game) against these opponents for their sheer FPF experience.
Last Week: #1
This Week: #1
2. What Could Have Beens (5-0): WCHB’s have put up 192 points in 5 games, averaging a ridiculous 38.4 points per game. Not only has Sean Brown been killing it so far, they also seem to have a reliable backup QB in Adam Leroy, who went 13/18, 158 yards, 4 TD’s with a single INT with another 21 yards on the ground. Kaylem Ferdinand and Regis Kodua are the other big names on this team that you need to gameplan around and focus on if you are playing this team in the coming weeks.
Last Week: #2
This Week: #2
3. 7th Rounders (5-0): 7th Rounders keep their win streak alive at 5 after taking care of Lionhearts in week 5. Week 5 leader in passing yards (160), Francis Savard-Vocino was effective and efficient in this one, throwing 5 TD’s on 15 completions… Every 3rd completion went for a Touchdown! Their key weapon is Jafar Hassan, weekly leader in receptions (8) and yards (93), to go along with his pair of TD’s this past week, and eclipsed 240 yards for the season. Their defense is tough, but if the Lionhearts could put up 19 on them, they may get exposed by WCHB’s. Time will tell.
Last Week: #3
This Week: #3
4 Tropic Thunder (4-0): No game played this week, yet they move up 1 spot in the Power Ranking due to a drop by Les Studz. I think Tropic Thunder fits nicely in the #4 slot. They can challenge teams above them, and be challenged by teams below them. They have profited from a weaker schedule, as proven by the Strength of Schedule, facing teams that have a combined win % of 44.44%, and if the trends continue, they continue facing similar, struggling teams. The other teams that have faced equally poor competition combining for 44.44% are: Stiffy Arm, Trojans, What Could Have Beens, Les Studz and Zone 6 Ballers, all of which are in the Top 10 Power Rankings. So, take their undefeated or 1 loss seasons with a grain of salt, although it seems so far, that the way the schedule has played out, the top teams have played the bottom teams, resulting in a very polarized division. Teams should now, more often, face equally struggling or equally performing teams and should make for an interesting back half of the season. Stay tuned!

This Week: #4
5. Les Studz (5-0): Sitting at 5-0 after your first 5 games in FPF is a great feeling, until you lose your first game. I’m a little disappointed that the game against the Boucsaneers was as close as it was. I fully expected them to crush their opponent, so unsure if that says more about Boucsaneers or Les Studz. Either way, they will need to rebound from an average performance against Boucsaneers and make sure they go score-for-score against the high-flying Zone 6 Ballers on Saturday night in Brossard. The back half of their schedule is by far more difficult than their opening 5 games, so it’s time to really see what Les Studz are made of.
Last Week: #4
This Week: #5
6.Inglorious Basterds (4-0): Inglorious Basterds had the bye week to rest any nursing injuries, but they are young enough that perhaps the time off was worse than beneficial in terms of getting less reps in. Maybe not, as they have played together in FPF Jr, but I would like to see more stability in relation to a fixed QB. This team has played in close contests against average/below average competition. Let’s see if this team has matured quickly and prepared themsevles for their biggest test of the season coming up on Saturday night against the #1 Power Ranked team all year so far, Trojans.
Last Week: #6
This Week: #6
7. Zone 6 Ballers (4-1): There is the breakout Quarterback game for Jeansley Valbonard I’ve been waiting for! 13/18, 147 yards, 6 TD’s and almost as importantly, 0 INT’s. Granted, it came against Here for the Beer, who are clearly only here for the post-game cold one’s. Still, Jeansley has leaned on Matt Valente as I expected and even suggested he do and was rewarded with 3 TD’s from his star receiver, in addition to his 2 INT’s. A quick turnaround into week 6 starts as early as Saturday, pitting them against Les Studz. Let’s see if Jeansley’s great play as of late has boosted his confidence, as he will need to play one of best his games as a Quarterback against Les Studz if he’s going to lead Zone 6 to victory in week 6.
Last Week: #8
This Week: #7
8. Stiffy Arm (3-1): Stiffy Arm is on a 2-game win streak, allowing only 6 points combined in those 2 games. To move up the rankings, they can’t lose games like on Saturday night against the South Shore Seamen, and to really move up, they need to beat or at least have a very close matchup in week 7 vs. Grondin’s Tropic Thunder. I’m curious to see how Adamo Colella’s progression at QB as he’s done very well for a 1st time QB. I would like to see the completion %’age go up, so let’s see if that improves or not.
Last Week: #7
This Week: #8
9. The Replacements (2-3): Well this is going to be a fun section to write after the heated and quite frankly, hilarious exchange between Frank Teoli-Colatrella and Tony Khoury on FPF’s Facebook page, providing some good reads and a 10/10 for entertainment purposes, with verbal jabs, hooks, uppercuts and some questionable math being thrown around me keep sane during a work trip in Heath, Ohio (inadvertent shoutout to Heath, Ohio… no, but really, nothing to do here). Anyways, back to FPF, although The Replacements took the L in what seems, from an outsider’s perspective some 1,000 km’s away from Baie d’Urfe (no, LaSalle isn’t quite 1,000 km’s away from Baie d’Urfe) was a clear cap-respected lineup by Green Wave, I still think The Replacements can challenge or beat the Power Ranked teams seeded 3-8 on their best day. 3 losses in-a-row though is a tough pill to swallow, so their next 2 games are must-wins.
Last Week: #9
This Week: #9
10. Boucsaneers (2-3) : You know what? I’m gonna go a little off-the-grid this week, and put the resurging Boucsaneers in the final spot in the Power Rankings this week. Despite the loss to Les Studz after stringing together 2 wins in a row in weeks 3 and 4, I was very surprised to see the 2-point margin between them and Les Studz. It shows that they can compete with top-tier teams and that they are rapidly understanding the basics of FPF. It’s funny with understanding the FPF game, you only realize how different it is, and how to properly approach and strategize after a good 3 seasons under your belt. So, while the Boucsaneers have some time to fully understand the complexities of FPF, they are off to a nice progression after looking like a disaster of a team 2 weeks into the season. Keep up the good work and, echoing the words of Peeze and Eagles, feel free to reach out to those 2 and even myself for any tips and feedback on how to improve your game.

1. Suicide squad (4-0): Nothing to mention here. Suicide squad is still the team to beat in Div 6, even on a bye week.
Last Week: #1
This Week: #1
2. Masters of Coin (3-0-1): Beat Benji Ziegler and co. and then we can start talking about moving them out of the top 3.

3. WInnie Tha Bish (3-0-1): Beat Joey Taylor and co. and then we can start talking about moving them out of the top 3.

This Week: #3
4.Trapstars (3-1): They might just have the best QB-WR duo in Div 6, and they will both need to go work against a resurging Chambo team that has won their last 3 games, after a 16 day break from their last game against the Average Joe’s.
Last Week: #4
This Week: #4
5.Average Joe’s (4-1): The Joe’s got back on track during my absence (in fact, I’m writing these Power Rankings on a red eye back to Montreal) with a huge victory against the well experienced Pension Plan team. The Joe’s face another big test next week when they square off against J-F Daloze’s Space Apes.
Last Week: #5
This Week: #5
6.Pension Plan (3-2): Despite back-to-back losses, PP stya put in the 6th spot, as they have surely been down here before and still present a tough matchup week in and week out against any team. Vince Pisano knows how to control the game tempo and FPF clock to his advantage with his famous dink and dunk drives that go for 9-11 plays at a time. Despite losses to the teams above them in these Power Rankings, I’m sure they feel as though that if they had another crack at either team, that they could come away with the win.
Last Week: #6
This Week: #6
7.Primetime (3-2): Primetime are the biggest risers this week, from off the list to the #7 spot. Nick Richard and Zack Stacey are challenging the Trapstar duo, Garber/Cooper for best dynamic duo in Div 6. Primetime get another big win against the famously rigid Trailer Park Boys defense to improve their record to 3-2. They have a potent, dynamic offense, and that always bodes well for a recipe for success in FPF. Richard, in addition to his 3 Touchdowns thrown, picked off Antoine Meunier 3 times to give himself and his offense more opportunities to score.
Last Week: N/A
This Week: #7
8.Trailer Park Boys (3-2): TPB drop their week 5 matchup against Primetime, where, while I have praised their defensive play in the past, their offense output isn’t quite at the same level. 90 points in 5 games is averaging exactly 18 points a game. 3 TD’s with no converts, as Peeze will attest to, will not win you many FPF games, especially FPF playoff games where you are pretty much facing teams that have been in the Top 10 Power Rankings all year. 4 of their next 5 games are not easy, and will largely determine who this team is in W2020.
Last Week: #7
This Week: #8
9.Space Ape’s (2-2): Space Ape’s may have one of the toughest schedules for their remaining 6 games, playing 3 of the Top 5 teams in this week’s Power Rankings, starting with a matchup vs. the 4-1 Joe’s and play both the Trapstars and Suicide Squad. Games of this nature will give us a better glimpse into the type of team Space Ape’s truly are.
Last Week: #8
This Week: #9
10. Fridge Raiders (3-2): For a team mostly comprised of new players, I’m liking where the Fridge Raiders stand at this point into the season, with a winning record, and currently sitting in a playoff spot. They’ve got matchups in the next 2 weeks against competition that is around their skill level, in Trailer Park Boys and Primetime, so these will be fun to watch to see who comes out on top (please don’t end in a tie!!). Fridge Raiders wrap up the Power Rankings for a 2nd week in a row in the #10 spot.

By Marc-Andre Desaulniers
Division 5A
By Marc-Andre Desaulniers
Frédrick Bérubé Forté a déjà 15 plaqués, wow !
3. Glogang: Belle victoire semaine.
5.GLC: Belle victoire face à Ducks and Cover.

By Alex Blais
Division 4A
By Alex Blais
4. The Infantry: Avec une victoire plutôt sérée face à KGP RA, The Infantry baisse dans mon classement.

- KGP (Last Week: 1 – This Week: 1): After being on a bye week, KGP, faces a desperate Backyard Bullies squad, who are hungry for a win.
2. The BrotherHood (Last Week:3 – This Week: 2): They beat Keyport Lock (27-26), in a thriller Wednesday night at Stade Hebert. Not only did The BrotherHood get the win and bragging rights, but they also took the number two spot from them in the Power rankings.
3. Keyport Lock (Last Week: 2 – This Week: 3): There is no shame in losing to the new second place team by 1 point. Rebounding this week against a winless but improving Loups team, won’t help them rise in the power rankings, but it will let them exercise some frustration.
4. Junkyard Dogs (Last Week: 5 – This Week: 4): The offensive juggernauts of D3 continued their rampage, in a (50-36) win over the Game Changers. JYD, will get a taste of their own medicine, when the take on the third highest-scoring team in the division, in the Greendale Human Beings, tomorrow night in Lachine.
4. Pineapple Express (Last Week: 4 – This Week: 5): If the Pineapple Express defense can create a turnover or two, they should have no problem beating a Dirty Dawgs squad that loves to air it out, but has trouble keeping the ball out of their own endzone.
6. Martine et le Flag (Last Week: 6 – This Week: 6): One of three remaining undefeated teams, Martine et le Flag, have a Monday night showdown against an All Hooks team that desperately needs a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Can MELF, keep the zero in the loss column?
7. Trinity (Last Week: 7 – This Week: 7): Coming off the bye week, Trinity, takes on a team that can match them in the speed and big play department, in Sweat & Beers, tomorrow night, in what truly looks like a pick ’em matchup. Let’s see how it plays out.
8. BearSkins (Last Week: 8 – This Week: 8): After a tough (18-12) loss to The BrotherHood in Week 4, the BearSkins, bounced back Monday night with a (31-13) victory over La Brume. Up next, is a game against the Lonzo Ballers, Sunday night at Loyola.
9. Les Maloudes (Last Week: 9 – This Week: 9): They laid a (32-0) beating on a clearly overmatched Loups. Props on the shutout. This Wednesday, the competition gets A LOT tougher, as they take on The BrotherHood. Can Les Maloudes, answer the bell.
10. The Commission (Last Week: 10 – This Week: 10): Will the bye week stall the momentum that The Commission gained from their (45-32) win over All Hooks? We’ll find out Sunday night, when TC, takes on The Crew, who are coming off of their own blowout win over All Hooks (48-25), Monday evening.
Division 2
By AJ Gomes
1.#NR: The last undefeated team remaining in the division. They have pulled off some big wins in some close games and have the most points scored so far.
2. Taco Tuesday: Hoping to bounce back big after suffering their first loss. It wont be easy seeing as they face #NR but I expect Avraam and company to be ready for the challenge.
3 BYOB: They’re on a three game win streak and will look to keep rolling this week vs a struggling Terror Squad. Looking good on both sides of the ball and currently in second for most point for in the division, let’s see how many they can put up this week.
4.Bad Boys: A clutch victory on the games last play will surely bring back any lost confidence. It was nice to see Pat Chenard back at full strength even though he handed my team our first loss of the year.
5. The Underacheivers 2.0: Putting up big points but also allowing too many. They have a great chance to turn things around this game vs Lightweight. Will they take advantage of this match up after a tough loss to Div2’s best team? or will they fold under the pressure and watch their season slip away? Count on Dylan Taylor to have his troops in line and get a big win in this one.
6. Terror Squad: Not where we expected to see them at this point in the year. They will be trying to end the their three game losing streak this week but it wont be easy vs BYOB.
7.Les Studs: Playing in this division will take some adjustments. They have some tough games ahead and will need to lock things down if they want to make playoffs.
Division 1
By AJ Gomes
1.Braves: They’ll be out looking for revenge this week in a rematch vs the only team that beat them thus far. Im expecting their QB and captain Jonathan Maheu to be prensent this time aorund, which is sure to make this game a must watch.
2. YCSWU: A last play of the game win keeps them in the #2 spot. It may not always be perfect but they keep getting the job done. They’ll face the #1 seeded Braves this week in a must win matchup to crown next weeks #1 team.
3. Got-Skills: They’re 2-2 and about to play vs an STL team who finally has a taste for blood. Tough situtation for them to be in. They’ll try to get things on the right track, but will they have a winning record this time next week? I think so…
4.Da Finest: Expect them to be back with a vengeance after a tough loss to the divisions last place team. They seemed to be with out a full team but if they can fix that this week than I think Kevin Wyeth is sure to light it up. Count on them to be back at full strength this week.
5. Flag Moi L’Sac: They battled hard but they still got dealt a tough loss on the play of the game. The first time they faced Da Finest they only put up one score and will most likely be better this time but they have the most points against up to this point so they should look into some defensive adjustments going into this one.
6. STL: They faught hard and earned their first win of the season vs some veterans. Theo Ojea balled out despite his QB’s struggles. Let’s see if he can keep carrying them to victory and if they can keep it going vs a Got-skills team on the hunt for a winning record.
Predictions of the World of Tomorrow
Each week we pos our picks and reflect back that to Ignacio’s tracker. The media team is having a solid season thus far. My expertise does seem to be strongest in Divisions 6D, 5B, and 2. I still maintain those who pick better than me are unfeeling robots who don’t believe in teams they love. Perhaps they do not believe in love at all.

Saturday’s Singing Sea-Lion
Super Sunday is here and we have less games than usual. That said, for the few that are playing this week! Best of luck!!! For those who have any thoughts, commentary or complaints, I am very easy to find. I’m @peezefpf on twitter and Peeze Della Reeze on most other forms of social media. You can also take a chance by emailing me at [email protected] and if it happens to be one of the two weeks per season that I check that email I will surely answer!
Remember that each week you can join the party on Facebook live or at www.youtube.com/flagplus on our weekly podcast: Calling the Audible. The show starts each week at 7:30 pm and we discuss topics such as the the most intimate messages in a bottle, the most compact fishing rigs and where the sun rises in a flat earth model! Till next week, I want to thank you falettineme be mice elf agin!
