Week 4’s recap and a look ahead at Week 5’s action

Super Bowl weekend is finally here!

Without diving into the whole NFL drama and discussions whether the Patriots are amazing or not, I just wanna say; I hope we get a great Super Bowl and it won’t be a boring game to watch like last year’s defensive battle. Tds are fun. We want more Tds.

Also chicken wings. Wings and Tds. Please. Forever.

This week’s article will only preview Week 5’s action as some of us are playing on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday; I’ll have another article out prior to next weekend’s action to preview what is up in D4.

Have no fear, you’ll get something to read on your lunch break next week too.

Let’s get started

Week 4

Week 4 was amazing yet again. Green Lantern Corps nudged their first win of the season, A-Squad continues to strive towards perfection, Game Changers won an absolute thriller and Sandlot Saints showed they could ball with the very best in the division.

All in all, another great weeks in the books for us.

Thoughts of the Week

  • I’m still uncertain whether a bye week like this is a good or bad thing
  • Writing 2 articles reduces my amount of thoughts, ironically.
  • Needless to say, that was a rough return to action for our fellow media member Yannick Doston in 4A.
  • Division 4B has very impressive parity. Coming into the season, I saw these huge power franchises and I was a bit nervous, but man has it been good.
  • Alexis Gaumont might be the answer for Green Lantern Corps after all!
  • You guys will have a midseason breakdown as usual. Sadly.
  • I’m not looking forward to writing the juggernaut once again, but I’m a man of the people!
  • Don’t sleep on Riccardo Desrosiers; he made some sweet catches on Sunday night.

Recaps

Division 4A

  • Still Still Teamless handled Frosty Bronsons in pretty clean fashion as Lonnie Johnson continues to pad his stats and reinforce his QBOTY case. Aside from the usual Justin McLean going up for balls and making Dbs look foolish, Justin Blanchard made some plays with ridiculous spin moves; seriously though, what a play. Danny D’Amour made plays for his QB offensively, but Bronsons’ defense looked bleak and, well, absent on Monday night. Hopefully they’ll remain on vacation next week when I take the field against ‘em.
  • Gotham Knights pulls the upset against The Commission late on Wednesday night. In fact, Sean Avraam looked nothing like his usual self. With bad reads, poor throws and unacceptable drops left and right, TC’s offense was going nowhere fast. Bruce, King Bat, Candussi rallied his troops offensively and marched down the field multiple times and found the endzone just enough to keep his team in the lead. On the final play of the game, Alexandre Provencher-Rivest came up with a clutch interception which he brought all the way back for 6; sealing the deal for his boys.
  • Les Maloudes finally have their roster in place and their defense continues to impress as they managed to keep No Name in check on Wednesday night. Anthony Beauchamp-Frezza made just enough plays to keep his offense on the right pace and got a clutch interception early to swing the tides in his favor. The play of the game came later when Ludwik Jananji intercepted a pass from Michael Roy and brought it back for 6 sealing the deal for the boys in red to improve their record to 3-1.

Division 4B

  • Jeremie Cloutier finally looked comfortable under center for Rancerz on Sunday when they played against STL Cougars and his offense put up 30+ for the first time this season led by WR Louis-Christophe Lafontaine who finally had a great game on both sides of the ball. With such a strong defense, there’s very little doubt that Rancerz will be within contention of every game. It was just a matter of time before their offense hit the ground running and they’ll be off to the races. STL Cougars suffers yet another heart-breaking loss, but the way they played showed there won’t be any game this season they can’t compete in.
  • A-Squad goes into games with the mentality that their defense will carry the offense and they did exactly that on Sunday night against Obamacare. In fact, Yacoub Telemaque played careful football offensively and did just enough to maintain a lead and his defense did the rest for him. Obamacare’s offense looked messy and never got anything going until way too late in the 2nd half. Kerdley Micourt’s 5 sacks came at a very opportunist time and turned the tides in the game as Jack Zergiotis had 0 time in the pocket and simply couldn’t go anywhere. If A-Squad can continue to rely on their defense and be creative offensively, there’s no slowing these guys down.
  • On Wednesday night, Jad Aridi was forced to go back under center as Jeff Rosenblatt suffered a season-ending injury and their new QB is off on vacation. In what was a very ugly outing, GOMD’s defense managed to make just enough plays (Seriously, Rod Mashtoub is too good for D4. Stop) to keep their team in contention. When it was all said and done, both Qbs made some plays they regretted, but GOMD’s deeper roster prevailed in what will, hopefully, be quickly forgotten by both teams. Sphinx might have faced their toughest opponent and yet battled until the end; there’s no reason these guys shouldn’t be taken more seriously this season!

Players of the Week

Division 4A

  • Shea Harbour (69ers): 21/26, 270 yards and 8TDs. What a game!
  • Shawn Steen (Eskimo Brothers): 123 receiving yards, 3TDS and 2 Pds defensively. His team needed a big game from him and he delivered.
  • Lonnie Johnson (Still Still Teamless): 26/28, 300 yards, 8TDs. How is that not a perfect QBR?
  • Steven Legault (Nobodies): 112 receiving yards, 2 Tds and 2 interceptions (one which he brought back for 6). Total dominance.

Division 4B

  • Alex Pilon (Mud Dogs): 114 yards, 4 Tds and an interception. Nice way to introduce yourself back into D4.
  • Sacha Papich (Gators): 119 receiving yards, 3 Tds and an interception. That’s how you make an impact as a sub!
  • Benoit Lawlor (Team Ethnik): 18/23, 250 combined yards, 6 passing Tds and a rushing TD. Great game.
  • Alexis Gaumont (Green Lantern Corps): 4 passing Tds, 1 rushing TD, 2 interceptions on defense (including a pick six). He basically scored in every possible way.

Picks of the week

For the second straight week, I finish with a 18/23 prediction ratio (9/11A, 9/12B) against Yannick’s 18/23 (8/11A, 10/12B). I’m still uncertain how we both guessed the same once again with different picks, but I assume we’re simply geniuses. After 4 weeks, we remain tied…Somehow.
