Week 4: Qualifying Round
Qualifying Round
We’ve officially finished one of the three infamous round of our FPF Cup and the feedback has been solid so far. Solid doesn’t mean it’s all positive, but the comments we’ve received has been helping us grow and possibly make next Fall season much better.
We’re aware of the current issue certain teams have displayed that “winning in the first round knocks us back in the second” due to being seeded higher. Have no fear, if the second round ends up being a nightmare, you’ll be in a lower Bowl and face adequate competition.
No one pays to beat down on teams and win 40-0.
Let’s get started.
Week 4
With BearSkins falling to the 4th pool, KGP Ra and Friends in Low Places elevating their game into the 2nd grouping, Urgence Medic making the 1st pool ahead of Braves, Greendale Human Beings showing that D6 can battle with the best in Tier 2, no name crashing down from early favorites to the 3rd pool and Bruins standing as the only team with a win in the 4th pool, the first round did not disappoint.
Thoughts of the Week
- Avocado Latte is now a thing in Australia and other countries. It’s basically a latte within an emptied out half avocado… Why?
- These new groupings offer very interesting matchups. I’m eager to see it unfold.
- Funny how this is the only week Daniel Lazzara didn’t ask for a shoutout.
- Glossing over that Braves’ stat sheet, Jonathan Maheu really stands out huh.
- I expected Urgence Medic to win, but not by that much.
- I’m surprised Freshii Superfoods only put up 18 on DK. Maybe DK’s defence really stepped it up.
- Greendale Human Beings looked pretty solid last week; that Aylward connection continues to amaze me.
- I’m not a Lions’ fan, but it feels good to see a guy like Matthew Stafford play this good after signing a new, way too lucrative, contract.
- With all this turmoil, even if I had a game on Monday night, it still feels like a bye-week for some reason.
- This week’s article is a bit shorter than usual; most of you had a bye week after all!
- Although they lost, Matthew Petrone really stepped up for his squad and made Fine Wine’s offence a living hell. Quite the impressive feat.
- I guess Mathieu Lepage CAN get it done against any given Dbs; 3 Tds against DK is note worthy.
- Glossing over these 8 new pools, I’m eager to see how it plays it this week; so many good games in the upcoming weeks. If the Bowl Round ends up being this competitive, we’re bound for one of FPF’s most intriguing season.
- I’m happy we had all those summer days recently, but I found myself waking up happy it isn’t 30 degrees outside anymore. I guess I’ll regret saying that in a few months.
Recaps
- Trigger Happy Bunnies vs Greendale Human Beings: If previous weeks were any indications, Trigger Happy Bunnies were looking like a top tier team ready to emerge out of the pack, but Greendale Human Beings really took them back down to earth in this week’s game. Jonathan Lemieux struggled to move the balls at many occasions and, although one of his interceptions was deflected off his snapper Alexandre Guertin’s hands, the other two were ill-throws quite simply. THB had no answers for Brandon Aylward who kept cutting up the field for big gains and Danny Aylward found ways to move the chains with his feet when he didn’t like what he saw on the field. GHB’ offence looked unstoppable whereas TBH kinda tried to hang on to dear life, but things went off the rails too quickly. In a rematch, I’m sure the score would be quite closer as it felt like a bad outing for Trigger Happy Bunnies, but I wouldn’t count Greendale out of any of their upcoming games just yet.
- Dans & Tams vs Urgence Medic: Coming into this game, I had high hopes for a close match up and most of Dans & Tams didn’t believe me they wouldn’t win this one; the right mentality coming into a game, but everything changed rather quickly. After being intercepted on his first convert attempt by Alexis Gaumont, Joey Taylor’s offence really took a nose dive from there onward. Sure, his receivers didn’t help him as his offence was plagued with quite a handful of drops, but he simply couldn’t get going against one of the stingiest defence the division has to offer. Urgence Medic adapted way too quickly to Dans & Tams’ offence and shut it down to only 12 points all night. Jesse Dupuis went to work offensively delivering 5 passing Tds to four different receivers and made quick work of his matchup as they were up by two scores by halftime. Urgence Medic will have very difficult games in the second round, but we’ll finally get to see how they could fare against some of the best FPF has to offer.
Players of the Week
- Jonathan Lyristis (Top Guns): As much as it pains me to write his name here, he did torch my team for 105 yards, 3 Tds and a pick-six.
- Jonathan Maheu (Braves): His 5 TD passes and perfect QBR is impressive, but the fact that he also caught the two receiving Tds by other Qbs makes it stand out even more.
- Jesse Dupuis (Urgence Medic): 5 passing Tds, 2 interceptions, 229 combined yards and a W. Can’t you let others have fun too?
- Kenzy Aristilde-Louis (DK): 5 sacks in one game deserves some credit; that’s impressive.
- Danny Aylward (Greendale Human Beings): Underdogs never looked so dominant. He went off for 6 passing Tds and an interception on defence. Oh, and something like 235 combined yards; no biggie.
- Januson Vas (Warriors): A very underrated piece of the Warriors’ team, he shone bright on Monday’s matchup finishing with 2 receiving Tds and 2 interceptions. Well done.
