Week 3’s recap, weekly awards, some random rambling and a look at Week 4’s action.
A third of the way.
3 weeks have past and we’re closing in on the bye-week. For some of you, that means the Superbowl and the festivities. For others, it means a weekend to get away from it all and enjoy it with friends, family or your lonely self. I don’t judge. In any case, take some time to look back, reflect and come back stronger. But before that, focus on your 4th matchup and finish on a high note.
With so many upsets and great matchups, it’s tough to call out just one, but I have to toss flowers at The U for proving me wrong and pulling off the best upset of the week. Les Maloudes’ crushing victory came close, but I predicted them to win, so, it’s just not the same.
If any teams are looking to add additional players to their roster, think fast. With only 7 games remaining, any playoff-eligible players will need to play the next 6 out of 7 games. It’s not too late, but it’s getting pretty late.
Let’s get started.
Week 3
As previously mentioned, Week 3 was home for many upsets and many great games. For the most part, I was getting texts, tweets and messages left and right about games I couldn’t be part of. I missed a lot of the action, but do not worry, I will be back on a sideline near you this week. Hey, we all have a life, you know.
Okay, I lied, I don’t, but still.
Thoughts of the Week
- With only 2 teams left undefeated in 4B (The U and J’s), things took a turn for the worst for many. Funny to think a team is setting sail with an undefeated record early in the season and two out of the 4 will be forced to look at themselves sitting with a .500 record during the Superbowl.
- JC Mercille’s profile picture (Found HERE) is absolutely ridiculous / amazing. Well done, sir.
- We went from 12 to 5 undefeated teams in a single week! It’ll make for a shorter segment.
- Expect dumb Snapchat posts in the upcoming days.
- Now that I think of it, when is Snapchat used intelligently anyways…
- Guys, please, stop making my predictions look bad. It was funny the first week, now it’s just getting old. Get in line.
- After 3 weeks, parity seems whole in D4. Div4A and Div4B seems to have pretty much the same level of parity. I’m actually impressed. I wasn’t expecting this. I love surprises.
- Gosh, that last sentence was a display of very poor English.
- I don’t really delete anything I write here, nor do I edit myself. Who does? This isn’t school.
- I’ve heard some pretty funny quotes over the past few weeks, I guess it’s part of being the English writer for a division, but I can’t stop smiling when people say “Let’s make that guy from the article wrong”.
- There’s no such thing as bad press. Check out this week’s podcast as I’m forced to perform The Houdini.
- Voting for this year’s Hall of Fame ballot was actually pretty hard. I spent more time on it than I had anticipated.
- In fact, there are more nominees in D4 than most would expect. This division is currently hosting 8 nominees. It’s great to see these guys out there. Now you guys know what you are up against.
- Alex, Eagle, D’Aquila has a UR. I have NO idea who gave that to him or thought he was threatening enough to deserve a UR, but it happened. It’s awesome.
- Your beloved Peeze thinks catching a shadow counts as a valid excuse for dropping footballs. Let’s take a moment here and mourn. We expected so much more out of him.
- Cougars play on the night I’m very rarely around. I’m sorry for the lack of coverage thus far.
Players of the Week
Division 4A
- Andrew Langburt (Coyotes): Rising up to the occasion, Langburt finished the night with 12 catches, 124 yards, 2 TDs and a pick. Impressive.
- Gordon Hogan (David Hurley, Pet Detective): Decent offensive yardages, a TD is alright, but the 3 picks will get you noticed. Way to pull off a hat-trick there, Hogan.
- Joey Taylor (Team Ethink): I’m not sure how they could’ve found a more suitable sub: 237 yards, 7:0 ratio and a 143.7 QBR. Impressive, Joey.
- Adam Rockman (Recipe 4 Disaster): Goddamn, Rockman put on a SHOW this week with 5 catches for 64 yards and 5 (!!!) Touchdowns. Way to go, Adam.
Division 4B
- Corey Williams (Balls Deep): Catching a 40-bomb and finishing the night with 4 (!!!) interceptions including a pick-six. Talk about being a difference maker!
- Shaq Lattimore (The U): 2 offensive TD and 2 interceptions against the former #1 seed will get you honors, everytime.
- Hai Minh Luong (J’s): Finishing the night with a 6:0 ratio, 72% completion and a 131.2 QBR is pretty impressive. Keep it up, Luong.
Recaps
Division 4A
- Le ZOO’s start of the season can’t get any rockier as they kneeled to Backyard Bullies and Rich Humes’ prowess on Saturday night. Another tough start for Frank Kaye and Co. as their offense can’t seem to find the end zone regularly and their defense can’t seem to catch a breath. Gualano-Sanner duo keeps making it look easy as they add 3 picks, a pick six and 3 TD to their combined record. Humes is showing real progress as a QB and Backyard Bullies are slowly starting to look like real contenders for that D4A title. With Francois Raymond and Kevin Marcil’s return to action for le ZOO next week, we hope it’ll be the spark the team’s been missing for the past 3 weeks.
- Les Maloudes read my preview last week, knew it was a must-win to stay atop the division against the former #2 seed and decided to play outstanding football and teach Jagerbomb a valuable lesson. It’s tough to ignore such a result; expecting this to be the game of the week and hyping it up to see a 30-2 final score and have Les Maloudes walk off with such a victory is astonishing. I’ve said it before, you don’t know how strong they are ‘till you play ‘em. Well, Jagerbomb learnt it first hand. That being said, I expect both teams to learn from this matchup as it’s most likely just a playoff preview and we could expect both of these teams to go at it again in 2 months.
- I’ve had my doubts about Jordan Moses’ performance at QB for the first 3 weeks, but he proved me wrong this week beating down old teammates. In fact, without being flawless, he played great football to notch the W away early in the 2nd half and never look back. 5-Star rose to the occasion and found ways to move the chain and punch it in when it really mattered. Starting the season 0-2-1 was simply not the kind of way they wanted to go and they took matter into their own hands. Now sitting at 1-1-1, 5-Star are back in a comfortable position looking ahead at the rest of their schedule.
Division 4B
- Les Affreux seized the head to head against their division rival this week and got themselves in a great position to win the division. In fact, by beating Red Sharks and containing Luis Begin adequately, the not-so-pretty-ones took faith into their own hands. Lemieux was true to himself allowing his guys to make most of the damage, although he turned the ball over more than he usually does. Begin’s night, on defense, was fantastic, but his offensive performance was, well, mediocre. Aside from a nice connection with Gaumont on a 40-yard bomb, most of the night was forgettable. A momemtum victory for Les Affreux to build on and a night to forget for Red Sharks. Expect both these teams to build up upon that in week 4.
- Suicide Squad took a few too many risks on Sunday night against Bromigos and got really close to losing the football game when everything was on the line. Up by 2 scores, Kevin Lubin had the game in his hands, but simply couldn’t connect with his receivers properly late in the 2nd half to put the game away and allowed for a Bromigos comeback. In fact, allowing the opposing team to get the ball back with 2 plays left and down by 7 is usually a story-ending movie that leaves a team with serious heartache. Jean-Francois Fortier Poulin caught a VERY contested ball on the 2nd to last play of the game to move into enemy territory and allow his team one last shot at the end zone. Luckily, Suicide Squad’s defense wasn’t giving up and made one final stop to secure the W. Not the prettiest night, but winning is all that really matters.
- Anthony Lapointe faced off against another new QB in Stephan Osman and both performances were quite unsatisfying, but Hooligans’ defense gave Osman better field position for him to punch it in here and there to pull away in the first half and never look back. With completion pourcentages averaging about 33% for both QBs, this game was a serious defensive struggle as both offenses are still trying to find their groove. Another night, another great performance from the current front-runner for defensive player of the year Eddy Lee who keeps making ridiculous stats lines. Keep it up, it’s always great to see.
Power Rankings
Division 4A
- Les Maloudes (3-0-0): Crushing their closest competition simply solidifies their top spot.
- David Hurley, Pet Detective (3-0-0): Being undefeated will see you climb the ranks. Their matchup against the #1 seed is their season finale.
- Coyotes (3-0-0): After many doubted them, Coyotes are bolstering the third best defense and an explosive offense. Can they be stopped?
- Jagerbomb (2-1-0): Last week’s loss raises many questions. Can they bounce back fast enough?
- Broccasion (2-1-0): A crushing victory against a division rival is always satisfying. Well done, Bros.
- Backyard Bullies (2-1-0): Rich Humes is showing off that he can put up points too when needed. These guys aren’t to be messed around with.
- 69ers (2-1-0): It’s not always pretty, but a win is a win. Keep at it.
- Eskimo Brothers (2-1-0): These guys are tough to predict, yet, they play excellent football at times. Let’s hope it was only a hiccup along the way.
- Frosty Bronsons (2-1-0): I’m not too sure what to think of last week’s loss. Let’s see if it turns into a trend or if Moses simply had his previous teammates’ number.
- Bruthers (2-1-0): Bruthers displayed just how well their defense is playing. Let’s not forget that Mikelberg is still growing and that this was all done without O’Brien.
Division 4B
- The U (3-0-0): Knocking down the #1 seed will, well, get you noticed and awarded. Enjoy the top spot boys.
- Crimson Tide (2-1-0): Last week’s loss isn’t all that troubling, but it did cost them the #1 seed. They’ll bounce back.
- J’s (3-0-0): The J’s have been making a name for themselves slowly, but surely. Hai Minh Luong is playing amazing football.
- Friends with Benedicts (2-1-0): Roster’s starting to have stability. It’s looking good.
- Les Affreux (2-1-0): Undefeated with Domon in the lineup. A small bump along the road doesn’t define a season. Way to bounce back.
- Red Sharks (2-1-0): Could Les Affreux have figured out the Red Sharks? Can they adjust and right the ship?
- Bromigos (2-1-0): A tough loss will see you drop a bit, but these guys will have to step up if they want to avoid going from perfect to .500.
- Hooligans (2-1-0): Quietly creeping their way to a great 2-1 record, Hooligans are starting to make noise and took control of the West.
- Ball Deeps (2-1-0): A strong win against previously ranked Smash Bros will get your name mentioned. Well done.
- Longhorns (2-1-0): The previously favored are creeping back in my Power Rankings. Let’s see if they can hold on this time around.
The Chase
Division 4A
Les Maloudes: Chasing past Cougars as their offense will keep solidifying their dominance and their defense will show the next one in line just how good the #1 plays.
David Hurley, Pet Detective: Chasing past D’s Nuts! in another defensive battle. DHPD will take away any deep throws and force Daoust to grind the field where mistakes will occur. Expect these guys to take full advantage of their opponents.
Coyotes: Chasing past ZOO in a battle that will be much closer than we’d expect as ZOO finds comfort in the return of their rusher Kevin Marcil and their safety Francois Raymond.
Division 4B
J’s : Chasing past Suicide Squad. Luong is leading his offense on the right track since his very first throw of the season and the J’s defense is making just enough plays to keep them alive for one more week. Suicide Squad have been playing good football, but the offense needs to start putting up more points if they want to keep winning games.
The U: Chasing past Les Affreux as the White brothers will be putting on a show with some help from Lattimore left and right. After the dismantle of Crimson Tide last week, The U is too hot to be dropping this one against a strong Les Affreux’ squad.
FlagPlus Fantasy Football
I’ve decided to add my prediction as to who will win the matchup after a few comments/requests. Name in bold is, obviously, my pick to win it this week. Step up.

Division 4A
The Head to Head
- Pat St-Amand (ZOO) vs Andrew Langburt (Coyotes): Two great playmakers on both sides of the ball will be facing off this week. Expecting full roster, these two guys should have just enough help around them to make an impact.
Position Matchup
- Fred Mallette (Warhawks) vs JC Mercille (The Fellowship of the Ring): This week’s QB duel opposes two QB who strive at throwing deep and have the athletes to do so. Against top players, reads need to be on point. Who ‘ya got on Saturday night?
- Jean-Felix Daloze (Jagerbomb) vs Alex Lamarche (Still Teamless): In a defensive matchup, both these guys are leading their teams in interceptions and are known playmakers. When it comes down to pure stats, who’ll have the biggest performance?
- Kevin Boustany (Recipe 4 Disaster) vs Corey Oliver (Eskimo Brothers): This week’s offensive matchup has two great receivers going neck-to-neck. Boustany is known to be his QB’s favorite target and Oliver has stepped up for his team this year. Who’ll be able to create the most separation to walk off with the mention this week?
Division 4B
The Head to Head
- Adrien Dusautois (J’s) vs Mendy Cardichon (Suicide Squad): Both players are using different styles, but are both very successful in FPF nonetheless. In a game bound to be an offensive shootout, who will step up the most, on either side of the ball, to lead their team to the W?
Position Matchup
- Jeffrey Lefebvre (Renegades) vs Jake Titleman (Mean Machine): These two receivers are leading their teams in yards and touchdowns. Who’ll lead on who Week 4 is all said and done?
- Dustin White (The U) vs Jonathan Lemieux (Les Affreux): Both these QBs are having a great season so far leading their offenses. Strangely enough, they have exactly the same completion ratio after 3 weeks: 60%. Whose will have the biggest impact?
- Julien Rivest (Vnation) vs Junior Luke (A-Squad): After 3 weeks, both players showed they can ball with the best and they can lead their teams on offense. Let’s see who puts up the best stats in their week 4’s matchup.
Previews
Division 4A
- Recipe 4 Disaster will be taking on Eskimo Brothers in their Week 4 matchup and will be looking to right the ship just before the bye week and take a break on a positive note. They need to go back to their old ways and steady this current rollercoaster if they expect to make another run at the Championship. Eskimo Brothers, ironically, are in a very similar boat; they can put up amazing points one week and fall flat the next. I expect both these offenses to emerge and have a strong week before the bye and put pressure on their own defense to create THE turnover to win the game. Expect a much better game than record could present.
- Broccasion are taking on the 69ers in my Game of the week. In a duel of two contenders, both teams will attempt to prove themselves before the break and finish on a high note. Having the same record and playing in the same division tend to create some rivalry and a fantastic game. Both these teams will have to play lights out if they expect to walk off with the W and keep their chase for the division title alive. It’s strange to be talking about division titles this early, but it might just be the difference maker down the stretch. Watch Lebofsky and Demetriou go at it all night long.
- David Hurley, Pet Detective have been on a roll so far this season with one of the, if not the best, defense in the division leading the way. This week, facing off against D’s Nuts!, DHPD will have to show how well they can defend the deep ball and grind out their opponents as the Daoust n’ Co are trying to right up a few wrongs and get some momemtum going. After a shaky Week 3, David Daoust will have to go back to his good old ways if they expect to come out on top against Division rivals this week. At 1-2, their playoff push starts this weekend.
Division 4B
- Ironically, Crimson Tide are facing off a team, Bromigos, that is in the exact position they are; both teams were undefeated, both teams were predicted to win and they both lost their week 3 matchup. Pushing to avoid starting 2-0 and finishing 2-2 at the bye week, I expect both these teams to play all-out in hopes of avoiding said scenario. Crimson Tide’s red hot offense hit a road block against The U, but I expect Pinsonneault to find his ways once again and force Larose-Laurent to have his best game of the season to keep up with him. It’ll be up to Bromigos’ defense to step up and create turnovers otherwise Pinsonneault will put on a show.
- Suicide Squad are taking on the J’s this week after last week’s barnburner. Lubin’s offense hasn’t hit the ground running just yet and he’s been sneaking out wins with less than 30 points, but Luong’s squad have been posting great offensive numbers since Week 1 and I expect them to keep doing the same. 33 points should be enough to seal the deal, but I believe this will come down to the final drive of the game and the way Suicide Squad’s defense adjusts in the 2nd half to prevent guys like Dusautois and Chassé to cause too much damage.
- Red Sharks took a bad loss in Week 3 to end their undefeated season, which is also the case for Keyport Lock. Facing off in Week 4 to avoid going from 2-0 to .500 entering the bye week, expect both QBs to come in guns blazing and to put up points really early to set the tone. If Keyport Lock can find ways to restrain Begin in the pocket and force him to throw, Rosenblatt could be looking at playing with a lead most of the night and forcing their opponents to catch up, otherwise this might be a long night for Keyport Lock’s offense once again.
Picks of the week
After the 3rd week, Doston and I remain very, very close. In fact, after this week’s performance, we both ended with the same result (but very different picks). It’s easy to say, Doston got lucky once again and, well, you guys let me down. It’s not talent on his part, trust me. He uses a quarter to flip. Not only is he using LUCK, he’s also too cheap to use like a 2$ or something. Aaah, Yannick..!
Anyhow, after my performance of 11 / 23 (9/12 Div4A and 2/11 Div4B) this week and Yannick’s 12 / 23 (7/12 Div4A and 5/11 Div4B), we’re still pretty neck to neck. I’ll have to step up to head into the bye week with the lead.
May the prediction Gods help me and curse Doston.
