Week 3 Recap: Playoff Implications on the Horizon
FPF Fall 2024 – Week 3 Recap
The action continues to unfold in the Fall 2024 5v5 division, and Week 3 did not disappoint. While some questions from earlier this season were answered, fresh challenges have arisen, leaving us with plenty to debate as the competition heats up. With big wins from the top teams and a close victory to kick off Week 4, the narratives continue to change.
Week 3 Power Rankings
- Kangaroos 🦘
- Braves ⚔️
- The Jamesons 🥃
- Mangoose 🟢
- Poseidon’s Kiss 🔱
1. Kangaroos (3-0-0)
Lazzara lights up, Kangaroos remain perfect.
The Kangaroos took down The Jamesons in a high-scoring affair, winning 44-30. Daniel Lazzara once again showed why he’s leading the MVP conversation, delivering a masterclass in efficiency and displaying his ability to spread the ball around, with four different receivers finding the end zone.
On the defensive side, the Kangaroos forced 4 INTs, with Pilon Jr. snagging two, showing why his addition has been such a game-changer. Meanwhile, Alexis Gaumont had an immediate impact with 5 tackles and an interception in his first game played. The Kangaroos’ defence continues to rise to the occasion.
2. Braves (3-0-0)
No Maheu, no problem. Braves dominate without their star QB.
Even without star quarterback Jonathan Maheu, the Braves put on a clinic, dismantling the Mangoose 42-6 in Week 3. William Trottier stepped in at QB and didn’t miss a beat, going 17/23 for 276 yards, 6 TDs, and 0 INTs. His precision and ability to distribute the ball effectively kept Mangoose on their heels, with 4 different Braves receivers scoring.
The Braves’ defence was just as dominant, led by Isiah Allard, who added two more sacks to his season tally. But the breakout star was Jean-Daniel Chevalier, who made his mark with 2 interceptions. The Braves defence, already considered the best in the division, keeps finding new ways to impress.
3. The Jamesons (1-2-0)
The struggle continues, but a win at last.
The Jamesons found themselves on the losing end against the Kangaroos in Week 3, falling 44-30. While quarterback Jeff Rosenblatt threw for 254 yards and 5 touchdowns, he also added 3 more interceptions to his season total. Despite standout performances from his receivers, particularly Manu Allard-Roy, who caught 3 TDs, Rosenblatt’s tendency to force plays has cost the team key possessions.
Their fortunes changed in Week 4, however, when The Jamesons secured their first win of the season, defeating the Mangoose 24-18. It wasn’t the dominant performance many expected, especially considering The Jamesons had a strong lineup, including Anthony Brisebois and James Ohayon returning. Still, a win is a win, though Rosenblatt’s interception issues remain a concern, with 2 more INTs bringing his season total to 9 INTs through 3 games.
4. Mangoose (1-3-0)
Growing pains and missed opportunities.
After a rough Week 3, where they were dismantled 42-6 by the Braves, the Mangoose were missing key players and their star quarterback. Despite that, on a positive note, Gabriel Drapeau-Zgoralski continues to shine offensively and scored their only touchdown. Although Mangoose’s substitute QB struggled, the team showed promise in their playmakers.
Week 4’s matchup against The Jamesons ended in a tough 24-18 loss, but the game was close. Nicolas Schaefer was back under center after a one game absence and delivered a turnover-free game, but the offence could only muster 193 yards and 3 TDs. Mangoose’s defence did enough to keep the game tight, but the absence of players hurt their chances.
5. Poseidon’s Kiss (0-3-0)
Time to regroup.
Poseidon’s Kiss didn’t play in Week 3, giving them time to assess their situation. Still without a win and staring down a tough Week 4 matchup against the undefeated Braves, the team has a lot of questions to answer.
If Poseidon’s Kiss is to salvage their season, they’ll need more consistency and a defence that can capitalize on turnover opportunities.
