Week 3: Game Reviews and Picks
DIVISION 4A
Smitty Bacall Gang vs. Big Fun
My pick: SBC
Result: 25-20 Big Fun
My impressions: Realized that Jack Zergiotis’ QB rating is too high, which means Jordan McInnis will be under center for SBC, which is a pretty big downgrade. With very few experience throwing the ball, McInnis is expected to struggle but he didn’t do too bad in this one. 3TDs is rarely enough to win a game. The team is athletic and it showed defensively with 2 sacks, 1 pick and 2PDs, but QB play can bring a team down a lot. For Big Fun, Evan Ely Nolet wasn’t amazing either but got both Rico Tulino and Doug McKernan 2 TDs each.
Still CRA vs. Ballz Deep
My pick: Ballz Deep
Result: 25-20 Still CRA
Great start for me, 0-2. Nirosh Suresh played alright in this one. Only 50% completion but 4TDs and only 1 pick. Alexandre Bachaalani went off for 91 yards and 2TDs. Interesting to see Guillaume Dufresne (stud) in this one, will be interesting to see if he’s a main stay on this team or just a sub. For Ballz Deep, Justin Weir was bad. Only one passing touchdown and 2 interceptions thrown. He made it work on the feet with 2 TDs and 64 yards but he’ll need to make the arm work for his team to have a chance in games. 7PDs for Ballz Deep and only one interception is either bad luck or a bad problem. You’ll need to catch the balls you touch on defense.
Bet Boost Ballers vs. Nomads
My pick: Bet Boost Ballers
Result: 32-30 Nomads
0-3 isn’t cutting it, at all. Bet Boost Ballers is a team full of studs and they’re now 0-2, which isn’t at all what I or anyone expected. Oriola Poirier and Santino Sparagma got 2TDs a piece, but the team was unable to do anything defensively. Still without an interception this season, BBB will need to switch some things up on that side of the ball. Nomads’ QB Justin Lavallee was clinical, throwing 4 TDs and limiting interceptions to a wonderful 0. Jean-Richard Verger made it work with 75 yards and 2TDs. Andrei Zolotukin also had two of his own and the game deciding pick-6.
Indisciplined Flaggers vs. Les Otaries Extremes
My pick: Les Otaries Extremes
Result: 43-0(!) for LOE
Yay I’m 1-3…Cory Sim-Robertson’s debut at QB in Div4 was a catastrophic one. 8 completions on 31 attempts, 73 yards and 5 interceptions and yes 0TDs. It will be a long season for IF. Kris Verreault didn’t have to do much to bring this one home but managed a great game regardless with 5 TDs and 0 picks. The ball was well distributed and Xavier Sauve scored his first 3 career interceptions in this one. Oumar Toure had 2 as well.
Les Blues Branleurs vs. West Island Boys
My pick: West Island Boys
Result: 25-24 LBB
Another wrong pick for me…Neither team had the greatest offensive game with both QBs throwing 2 picks. The one convert in the game was the deciding factor. It seems that West Island Boys were a bit rusty, which can be expected after a long break, but I wouldn’t worry too much about them. This is a huge win for LBB, but are they really contenders? We’ll have to see.
Trapstars vs. Backfield Penetration
My pick: Backfield Penetration
Result: Trapstars 30-27
Should I give up already? Alessandro Barazzoni struggled in this one throwing as many picks as INTs (3). The measly 91 yards passing is concerning, especially since Trapstars aren’t necessarily known as a great defensive team. Ryan Garber and James Wiseman connected a lot in this one, with Wiseman ending the night with 76 yards and 3TDs.
Mofos vs. Les Montagnards
My pick: Mofos
Result: 28-26 Mofos
Tiemoko Sanogo only threw for 2TDs and 87 yards, but his defense helped him out with 3 picks, including 2 coming back for a TD. Mofos are a very athletic team and it showed in this one. Vincent Gingras struggled completing passes for Les Montagnards who were without starting QB Julien Fiset-Cyr.

DIVISION 4B
Ball Don’t Lie vs. SDU (I’m not writing out that goofy name anymore, I’m sorry).
My pick: BDL
Result: 31-30 BDL
Anyways I’m 1-0 in Div4B at this point. I’m not going to lie, this one was way closer than I expected. Kyle Greenbaum set up Raphael Dagenais for 3 TDs and Dagenais helped his team with a pick on D. For SDU, Caleb Bryson couldn’t get the ball to go where he wanted with only 10 completions on 28 attempts. 1 passing TD and 2 picks, but 70 yards and 2TDs rushing. Overall, rushing isn’t always going to be a winning formula when you face a great rusher so that passing attack will need some figuring out.
X-Men vs. Monkeys
My pick: X-Men
Result: 60-0 X-Men
I, of course thought this was a forfeit at first, but the game actually ended 60-0…oof. Monkeys are in the wrong division. -1 passing yard on the game…how is that even possible? Anyways, congrats to X-Men on the win, and good job to Justin Swaminadhan on almost 100 yards and 3TDs.
Dak to the Future vs. Mengoose
My pick: Mengoose
Result: 18-13 Dak to the Future
I’m going to give up. After a stunning performance in Week 1, Felix Antoine Lavigne comes back with an unfortunately typical night for him. Only 86 yards, and 2 TDs, with 2 INTs is rough. Justin Gauthier is a really good quarterback but his team seems to lack a bit of depth. Maxime Sharkawi and Jeremy Laplante will see a lot of targets this season.
Team Sexy vs. Pocket Rockets
My pick: Team Sexy
Result: 32-26 Team Sexy
Jean-Francois Marquis was at the QB position which is not who I would have expected (PO Tremblay). Gabriel-Charles Dabe-Champagne was subbing in this one and did all he could to give the team a chance, but the rest of the roster was disappointing. For Team Sexy it was a sloppy game but their defense stepped up big time with 1 pick-6 and 10 PDs.
The Penetrators vs. Voodoo
My pick: Voodoo
Result: 26-6 Penetrators
Voodoo had a great first game but this one was horrible. Frank Kaye couldn’t complete his drives and failed to get the new guys involved. Justin Goodman played a clean game and both Mathew Caponi and Nicholas Fon got 2TDs.
Killer Rays vs. Les Renards Vifs
My pick: Les Renards Vifs
Result: 42-34 Killer Rays
Alright I’m giving up, I’ll start fresh with my predictions next week unfortunately. Tyler Gurberg is back, and he showed great efficiency on 15 targets (12 catches, 139 yards, 3TDs). Jacob Salvail is a really good QB but he threw 2 costly picks in this one. Louis-David Bernier-Cloutier and Arthur Salvail both stood out in this one. Les Renards Vifs will need to step it up defensively if they want to contend.
