Week 2’s Power Rankings/Week 3’s Predictions

Peeze’s Playbook Week 2

Having risen the ranks in FPF’s media ranks has afforded me some luxuries.  Do not be mistaken, these luxuries do not present themselves in the form of a Rolex Day Date, world travels, more shoes, eating at my favourite restaurants many more times than I already do or any of the things I love.  For those who haven’t figured it out, FPF doesn’t pay in fortunes and wheel barrels of gold.  It is, in every sense, a labor of love.

Having the opportunity to work with some amazing media members over the year has truly been incredible.  It continues to be as our team and league grows.  We offer more coverage each season and we continue to challenge ourselves.  Each time we hit the breaks and change our direction completely our team embraces it with open arms.  That is the coolest environment to work in.  If you haven’t had that opportunity, try to seek it out because it truly is freedom.  Freedom isn’t being left alone to your own devices but rather being held accountable while being valued for your personal contributions and for the unique skills you bring to the team.

League president Robert Camapana hates when I swear in articles.  So I’ll apologize later. To the members of the media who have supported our new vision I thank you for continuing to be fucking renegades.  Each member brings unique insight and a particular feel to their work in a way that really makes our coverage a distinctive style that makes everything we do with FPF feel like it’s own entity.

As time goes on I’ve learned the importance of the friendships I’ve made through Flag Plus Football.  Working with people I truly care about has been a great experience and it has shown me the type of respectful encounters I’d like to have in every facet of my life.

Last year a few of the media members and I (including Terry Tam, Eagle and my Brother), started a new venture called Hot Sauce Sports.  The freedom and luxuries I mentioned earlier culminated int eh freedom to discuss that platform here.  For those who are interested in sports beyond Flag Football take a look at our podcast, our website and our social media accounts.  They are all worth the follow.  On www.hotsaucesports.ca there is a reaction piece by one of our staff writers to the Giants hiring Joe Judge and Jason Garrett.

This piece is particularly important to me.  This article is the first contribution by our newest staff writer.  Cosmo Della Rocca is my father.  In FPF I had been blessed to work with smart, engaging and all around great people who I’m lucky enough to call friends.  Now at Hot Sauce Sports I have the opportunity to not only work along side my brother and two of my best friends but my dad as well.  I must have done something right in my life because I keep getting rewarded with the things that matter most at every turn.

Enjoy this week’s collaborative article!

OH AND REMEMBER TO LIKE, WATCH AND SUBSCRIBE TO HOT SAUCE SPORTS!!! Why do I always forget that?

Power Rankings

If you have any question about how the media team thinks your teams are doing?  Let all the questions rest as they have been answered herein.  The entire media team has assembled as if Ron Burgundy blew into a conch and they’ve decided to judge, nitpick elevate and snub.  Here’s this week’s top teams at a glance!

Division 6/6D

By Ignacio Valdez-Manzanedo

Division 6D

1. Trojans (2-0): Alex Fafard is a true duel-threat Quarterback, as he’s 6th in the division in passing yards (264), 6th in passing TD’s (7), has protected the ball throwing 0 interceptions, is 4th in completion percentage (64%) while having already eclipsed 100 rushing yards (105) – good for 2nd overall, and has the most rushing TD’s with 3 on the year. Having beat last week’s #2 ranked team quite convincingly in Stiffy Arm this past week, has Trojans securing their #1 spot from last week. The only thing I can say this team needs to improve on is their converts, after going 0-for-6 on their XP attempts in week 2…. Oh, but wait, they went 4/4 in week 1… so nevermind. Who will be the team to knock off Trojans in the coming weeks? Stay tuned as week 3 kicks off on Saturday!

This Week: #1

2. Tropic Thunder (2-0): Well, well, welll… Tyler Grondin has found the division in which he truly excels in, and has the stats to back it up: 2nd in passing yards (345), tied for 1st in TD’s (11), a division-high 36 completions and 3rd in completion percentage (64.3%). He has the offence rolling on all cylinders, as he’s got 2 receivers with 4 touchdowns each, in a guy with 2 first names, Michael Kevin, and a guy with arguably one of the best individual pictures in FPF, Alex Laroche (seriously, what a smile! It’s sure to make your weekend!). I may be biased for offensive teams, but that is the nature of FPF, but when your defence puts up 7 interceptions in 2 games, it’s definitely worth noting. The name to watch out for here is Mikael Arseneau, leading his squad in picks with 3 and in receiving yards with 124. A great balance on this team on both sides of the ball has them rising 2 spots from last week.

3. Les Studz (2-0): I have to be honest, it felt strange handing a brand-new team the #3 spot last week, but they proved me, themselves, and the entire division that they belong here.  With the uncertainty of how you and your team will stack up in a new flag football league, it’s impressive to come out of the gates and see 78 points next to your team name. Oh, and Tropic Thunder, Les Studz will see you 7 picks and match that with 7 of their own (if it’s wroth noting for 1 team, I gotta mention it for the other). I will temper expectations however, as they have yet to play any of the strong teams in 6D. In fact, I would argue they won’t play a truly strong team until Week 8 and 9, when they face off against The Replacements and 7th Rounders. They could very well be 7-0 at that time, and it will be due to their “lighter” schedule. Near the end of the season, (week 7 or so), a tool is usually released by Alex “Eagle” D’Aquila (exclusively released on FPF’s live podcast, “Calling The Audible”, on Thursday nights on Facebook) to help determine if this reasoning of mine has any validity. This, along with the possibility of this team moving up to Div 6 for the playoffs (a repositioning of strong Div 6D and weaker Div 6 teams occurs at the end of the season and will be explained in greater detail as the season progresses) will better even out the playing field and truly determine the skill set of Les Studz. As long as Les Studz keep putting up 30 and 40 points on the board, they will stay in the top 5 rankings, unless teams under them in the rankings rise up stronger to pass them. For now, they keep their #3 spot from last week.

4.What Could Have Beens (2-0): Speaking of teams that are quickly rising the ranks, we have What Could Have Beens in at #4, the biggest risers this week. They jump a big 4 spots up after posting back-to-back 40-point weeks. That has them as the #2 offence with 82 points after 2 weeks, with Sean Brown leading the way both through the air and ground. He’s leading the division with 126 rushing yards, and is tied for 2nd with his 10 TD passes. I also like seeing when there is a balanced attack on offence, as 5 receivers have at least 1 TD, and from their top 4 receivers in terms of yards, the lowest has 42 yards. That’s some great spread, and difficult to defend. Adam Leroy, #4 is the man to watch on this team, leading his group with 3 TD’s and 3 INT’s. Much like Les Studz, they don’t have a tough opponent until they play The Replacements and 7th Rounders, so see above for related comments on Strength-of-Schedule (S-O-S), but even as Corey Walwaski wrote in his article recapping Wednesday games, “these guys over here don’t belong in this division”.  Continue balling out, and you’ll have teams after games asking themselves and wondering, “What could have been…”

5. 7th Rounders (2-0) : As Peeze mentioned on Calling the Audible, FPF’s podcast show, how did 25 points get put up on 7 completions?? The answer? Through 4 rushing attempts that went for 49 yards (essentially the entire field) and a score, in addition to Jafar Hassan’s 32-yard pick 6. As I start to get a feeling for the division and conference, Conference B is clearly the weaker one, with top-heavy teams. I was going to say that 7th Rounders won’t play a tough game until… until I realized I’ve repeated the same content in the last 2 rankings. I’ll stick with analysis after 2 weeks, so how could I fail to mention back-to-back shutouts?? This is an extremely difficult task, as FPF is built for offence, even against weaker opponents. Nonetheless, posting 2 shutouts on any team in FPF that is competing to score is a difficult task. The only question mark I have for now is who is the full time QB? I hope it’s Julien Cheaib, as he had the better QB stats over Vocino. 7th rounders move up from the 7 spot last week to #5.

6. Inglorious Basterds (2-0): If you were able to catch my article this past Monday, I was able to see Inglorious Basters with my own eyes for the first time. I saw a team play with youth exuberance, a team that is a little brash, a little bit annoying (they can get under your skin), but are also loaded with QB talent, as Adam Malinoff was able to put up over 200 yards of offence in their week 2 matchup.  Inglorious Basterds look to take Div 6D by storm, but will have to grow up and mature quick if they want to compete with the top teams in the division. They have the raw talent, its clearly there, but can they piece all the elements together. Let’s see how they stack up against a team like Trojans, Tropic Thunder, and even Diablos, who will present a physically imposing matchup to them. I want to see how they deal with bigger teams because for all the credit I give them and the athleticism they posses, they are still one of the smaller teams in the division. For now, keep displaying that talent, but your true tests are still upcoming.

7.The Replacements (2-0): The Replacements are the 2nd biggest riser this week, moving up 3 spots after rounding off last week’s Ranking at #10. They find themselves in the 7 spot after posting a whopping 53 points on SAFTB. There you go Nim, your moving up the rankings! The only reason they don’t move up higher than 3 spots is because of the competition they’ve faced so far; 2 newer, struggling teams in FPF. Of course, it’s not The Replacements fault for the scheduling, you still have to go out and win the games, and that’s exactly what they’ve done. Things like back-to-back pick 6’s are also a great moral booster for a team, something that happened against quarterback Matthew Vincelli of SAFTB. Continue this success and offensive output against experienced FPF teams and you will no doubt rise in the rankings. I’m anticipating a fun game in week 4 vs. What Could Have Beens, the only other team that rose more spots this week than The Replacements.

8. Stiffy Arm (1-1): Stiffy Arm drop in the rankings, not because they were terrible in week 2. They did lose, albeit to a formidable opponent in Trojans, but they drop because a lot of teams in the division exploded offensively (40+ points) and/or stifled opposing offences by pitching shutouts or allowing only 1 TD. Overall, a small blimp in the road is alright. I still strongly believe this team makes the playoffs as they have the much needed FPF experience in Castiel, Evangelidis and Litwin, in a division meant for development (the D in 6D is meant for development for those who didn’t know). They just have to execute, and they will be fine. My only concern with this team is Colella’s inexperience at QB and his 6 INT’s that match his 6 TD’s in 2 games… if you do the math, he’s exactly on pace for the famous Jameis 30 for 30 (insert grimacing, nervous, and flushed emoji).

9. Mountain Goats (1-1): ”The first new entry of the week, Mountain Goats squeak into the 9th position as they were left off the Top 10 last week. Position 9 and 10 is where I think will be the most shifting throughout the season, and Mountain makes it this week because of their big win against Green Wave, and their tight first contest against Jeansley Valbonard and his speedy, shifty form (limiting him to just 23 yards is quite the accomplishment). Massimo Barbusci has played FPF before with ORSA and is leading this inexperienced Mountain Goats team both on and off the field with 98 yards receiving, 3 TD’s, 2 INT’s, and his experience on the field. He’s lead them to victory in week 2 and in the #9 spot.

10. Killer Rays (1-1): In a new segment on Calling The Audible, Moe Khan led a game called “Real or Fake Players” where he gave a player’s name and stats, and Peeze and Eagle had to guess if the player is real or not. This week, Corey Vanderzweep was featured on the segment, and he, and his brother Tylar Vanderzweep are the reason why this team gets the nod as the last spot in 6D. I hope Tylar’s performance of 4 passing TD’s and 57 rushing yards in week 2 has him locked in as the starter, as he clearly bested teammate Chris Genio’s week 1 stat line. His brother, Corey leads the team so far with 2 TD’s and 3 INT’s. Can the brothers lead this team to the playoffs? I think someone else on this team needs to step up, but they will be in the mix by the end of the year.

Division 6

1. Suicide Squad (2-0): “After claiming the #1 spot last week, all Suicide Squad did was put up 39 points, shutout their opponent, pick off Nelson Pereira 3 times, and saw Noel complete 82% of his passes for 150 yards, 5 TD’s, get 2 INT’s of his own, one of which went for a pick-6. In last week’s Power Rankings, I gave the edge to Suicide Squad as the #1 team and isolated the names of Noel and Wiseman for their talents and expertise, to along with their 594 games of FPF experience. But offensive ball distribution is yet another reason why they repeat at #1. A whopping 10 different receivers have caught at least 1 ball and 8 different receivers have caught at least 1 Touchdown. By far the greatest distribution in Div 6. If I were you, I wouldn’t play man often… good luck covering all 5 receivers.  Oh, did I forget they have 12 points against in 2 games? That’s 1st in the div. I could go on all day… #1 goes to Suicide Squad.

2. Winnie Tha Bish (1-0-1): ”I had Winnie Tha Bish beating Masters of Coin in my game picks, but we don’t get to say by how much. I was expecting a very close game in this highly anticipated matchup between 2 teams that I think will battle for top 3 in the division. In the end, a tie is as close as you can get to 2 evenly matched teams. That being said, until a team shows me they can beat the Joey Taylor offence with Joey Taylor out their playing receiver, and Winnie protecting the ball like they have so far (only 1 INT in 2 games), I see a 8-1-1, 7-2-1 record by the end of the season for this team. As would he I’m sure, I would like to see McFee pass for more than 88 yards, but he did gain 59 yards on the ground on 3 attempts, one of which went for a score in week 2.

3. Masters of Coin (1-0-1): ”Nobody likes to end a game in a tie, but I think the tie said more about Masters of Coin more than it did for Winnie Tha Bish, proving that even without Fergenbaum at QB, they can play with the best of ‘em. After week 1 saw Zeigler claim the better WR stats, it was Adam Rabinovitch getting that title this week with 6 catches for 41 yards and 2 TD’s. Although having more lowkey stats, it’s good to see this team brought in a new player that can contribute to their success with a base 55 rating in Josh Jagodnik. His only reception went for a TD and he picked off Danny McFee in his week 2 matchup vs. WTB. Because of a couple tough matchups in their season in Tankin’ for Tua and Suicide Squad, I predict a final record similar to Winnie: 8-1-1 or 7-2-1. Masters of Coin get +2 coin this week compared to last.

4. Average Joe’s (2-0): “The Average Joe’s stay put in the #4 slot as they get the win over MACDO in week 2. Similar to Suicide Squad, I like the Average Joe’s depth on offence. Not that 7 different receivers having 1 catch is impressive… it’s not. Most teams have 7 guys that have caught a ball. It’s that the receiver with the lowest yard total on this team has 32 yards, by far the highest for a team’s lowest-ranked receiver in yards. The spread is not only on offence, but on defence too, as the Average Joe’s are 2nd in total interceptions with 7; second only to The Potatoes who have 8 INT’s in 2 games so far. That being said, before I move my own team up the rankings, I want to see us play other teams and see how we fair. A battle of 2-0 teams in Average Joe’s vs. Kings of the North forthcoming next Wednesday at House Hebert.

5. Tankin’ for Tua (2-0): Despite coming out victorious in week 2, Tankin’ for Tua drops to the #5 position. Let me explain… After Menace II Sobriety dropped their first game 33-2 to The Potatoes, I thought Tankin’ for Tua would run away with their matchup vs. Menace II. Instead they barely squeaked out a win 19-18 against MII Sobriety. Granted, MII Sobriety had Akeem Hoyte-Charles dress in his first game of the season against Takin’ for Tua (he’s a beast of a player), I still expected more offence than 19 points from Ryan Eichler. I’ve also done the math, and realized this team cannot dress Adam Smolar, Noah Groper and AJ Rashkovan all in the same game, reminding me of last Winter’s Vick in a Box team that had to decide to either dress Max Burah or Jordan McInnis in a game, but never both. In week 2, it was Groper’s turn off, and missing one of these guys consistently has me re-rating this team a little. I believe this is still a playoff-caliber team, but for the reasons mentioned above, they slide down to the #5 spot.

6.Pension Plan (2-0): Both of Pension Plan’s games been very close games so far, winning them by a combined 3 points. It once again shows the importance of converting on your XP’s when looking at the final score of a game. Averaging just 1 INT a game, not only Vince Pisano is protecting the ball, but his defence is coming up huge in the final plays of both games. In week 1, MACDO had a final drive to win the game and they stopped them. In week 2, although Space Ape’s were able to score the TD on the final play of the game, the Apes were forced to go for 2 and PP were able to defend it for the win. A veteran team like this, with Siggia and Rinaldi leading the way on both sides of the ball, has them at 2-0 and sees them jump up 2 spots to lock in #6 in this week’s Rankings.

7.Kings of the North (2-0): Looking at this roster, I like the names I see on this team with players like Dany Ostiguy, M-A Blais, Phil Aussant and Sean Thomas Furlong as pieces to build a nice roster here. Phil Aussant is distributing the ball well, with a clear #1 receiver in Ostiguy, but what has me slightly concerned are Aussant’s 6 INT’s to his 5 TD’s. Making up for it in the turnover game however, is Marc-Andre Blais with his 4 sacks and his constant pressure on Quarterbacks, forcing opposing quarterbacks to throw errant passes into coverage where Ostiguy (3) and Jeremie Gladu (2) have been able to pick off the quarterbacks they’ve faced  so far.

8. Trapstars (1-1): After losing a close one to Kings of the North, Trapstars went off on Llamas Pyjamas in week 2. Ryan Garber had an absolute monster game, going 18-for-24 for 178 and 6 TD’s, to go along with his 47 rushing yards and 1 INT on defence. He strongly utilized Cooper Young in this one, and he too went crazy in week 2, scoring 4 times on 9 receptions for 110 yards. Young will be a name to watch out for the remainder of the season, as he leads the receiving core in all of Div 6 with 6 TD’s. This is a team I’m excited to follow in the coming weeks, and look forward to playing against them in week 4. I think this young team has a lot of talent, so I can see them moving up the Power Rankings. This week, they fill the #8 spot after being left off last week.

Last Week: N/A

This Week: #8

9. Space Apes (1-1): Space Apes take a little tumble in the Rankings after suffering a loss in a close game vs. Pension Plan (mentioned above in the 6 spot). The only reason they drop 3 spots, like Stiffy Arm in the 6D Power Rankings, is because other teams performed so well. Otherwise, Louis-Mathieu Dufour seems like a scary dual threat at both WR and QB, putting up 170 passing yards and 5 TD’s in week 1 at QB, and then 108 receiving yards and 2 TD’s in week   2 at WR. I also love teams that can send out a balanced attack on offence, and this team has 5 players that have a range of receiving yards between 45 and 108 yards. Love it! This is a team I expect to win more games than lose, make the playoffs, and have a chance to make a good playoff run. Despite the optimism for the future, this is the week 2 Power Rankings, and they come in at #9, but I expect this team to go up from here.

Last Week: #6

This Week: #9

10. Trailer Park Boys (1-1): After rounding out the Top 10 Power Rankings last week, we have Trailer Park Boys closing out the list this week once again. Although it doesn’t look like Hugo Geoffrey will be on this team, the Meunier brothers are capable of moving the ball up field, as Frederic and Alex lead the team with 71 and 74 yards respectively, and Antoine Meunier has the ability to play the short game and run game effectively, passing for 3 TD’s and running for 1 in their week 2 win against Stack Your Roster. Of course, TPB’s are known as a strong defensive team, and holding Mendy Cardichon and Arnaud Prince-Duthel’s to 23 and 32 yards respectively is a testament to their brand of strong defence and further cements them as one of the top defensive units in Div 6. If they can continue combing big runs and punch their way down the field while killing the clock in the process, I said it last week, and I’ll say it again, they will make the playoffs in the 5-6 spot in Conference A. Fail to do so and they will still be able to be in the playoff mix, but in the 7-8 spot.

Division 5A/5B

By Marc-Andre Desaulniers

Division 5B

Division 4A/4/B

By Corey Walwaski

Division 4B

1. Class on Grass (2-0): This one was close, but Class on Grass has simply beat up on better opponents than anybody else in the division and are deserving of the number 1 spot… so far.

2. Takeover (2-0): Not to be outdone, they’ve looked exactly as we expected coming into the season and I’d consider them more of a 1B.

3. BBallers (2-0): Maybe a little too high on my list, but they’re an exciting group.

4.Team Ethnik (2-0): They’re a little higher on the  list simply because of their experience and that they’ve proven in the past that they can win games and compete with just about anybody.

5. ZT’s (2-0): They’ve been impressive so far but I’m not ready to crown these guys just yet because their opponents haven’t been too difficult. Once they start beating the class of the division, they’ll more up easily if they can pull it off.

6. Les Gros Coqs (2-0): They have a solid recipe for success. A mobile QB with a good arm, a trio of good receivers and a talented rusher. I wouldn’t want to play them come playoff time.

7. Mean Machine (2-0): I’ve seen these guys have success in lower divisions and they’ve played some good football so far, but I’m not sure they would beat any of the teams above them in the rankings, so number 7 they go.

8. The Sheriff (1-1): Luis making me look bad after giving them my top spot last week, I still think they are one of the top teams in the Division.

9. FILP (1-1): Slight misstep this week, I expect them to rebound this week against an 0-2 team.

10. EZW (1-1): After a slow start, they proved why they’re a top team again this year. Rough schedule for Finessers, though.

Division 4A

1.Bandit Bruthers (2-0): Come watch for yourselves, I promise Jaylan Greaves will put on a show one way or another. So many options to throw to and the best defense in the Division, if we don’t do well, it’s completely on me.

2. The Infantry (2-0): They just had an impressive win against Half-A-Stars. Newly added Dilan Daoust gives them an element that they haven’t had before – kind of like adding Travis Kelce to the Texans. They have the dual threat QB, a stud wide receiver and now they have a sure handed presence in the middle of the field. Dangerous.

3. Les Verges Folles (2-0): They continue to roll and Zach will be in the hunt for QB of the year for sure. My only question, why do they have two different colour logos?

4. Chocolate Thunder (2-0): I was just about to write a bunch of awesome things about Nikki Papich playing QB, only to realize it looks like big man Kano is back under center. Papich will be one of the best receivers of the division and they may actually be more dangerous now.

5. Dream Breakers (2-0): A solid win against a top team, even without their QB is impressive. I’ll never doubt Dallaire’s ability and they have a few two way studs. Easily a contender this year.

6. C2E inc (2-0): Shawn Haney, Marvin Steinberg and Hinsley Adams make for an impressive defense and Mike Roy has been playing well to start the season. 8 TDs without a turnover is solid but his completion percentage shows what hurdle this team may have and it’s not Roy – ill timed drops can hurt this squad.

7.Outlaws (1-1): After a win against their rival Super Saiyans and getting Isaiah Allard back, they look just as impressive as ever.

8. Les Princes de le Rive Sud (1-1): Backup QB Marc-Antoine Viens played decent, but this team is at it’s best with Fiset-Cyr under center. They’ll be just fine once he’s back.

9. A-Squad (1-0-1): Probably the most athletic team in the Division, can Yacoub Telemaque sustain success for the whole season? Will they field a consistent roster to build the chemistry needed for the  playoffs? This team is definitely a wild card.

10. Eskimo Brothers (1-1): Missing a few guys against the Bandit Bruthers, they still competed hard and will be a tough game for anybody in the Division, including the teams above them. Zach has a strong arm and Shawn Steen may very well compete for two-way player of the year.

Division 4A/4B

by Alexandre Blais

Division 4A

9.The Tide: Cette équipe expérimentée a subis une défaite crève-cœur face à CZE inc.

Division 3

By Brent Bodkin

1.KGP (2-0): If it wasn’t for a safety, the savage beatdown they laid on Pineapple Express would’ve been a shutout. This team shows no signs of slowing down.

2. Keyport Lock (2-0): You have to give them credit when is due. After nearly getting blown out in the first (26-12), Keyport Lock, pulled a Kansas City Chiefs to the BearSkins’ Houston Texans, and came storming back with 21 second half points, enroute to a huge (33-32) victory. By hook or by crook, getting it done is all that matters.

3.BearSkins (1-1): Football is a game of inches, and in FPF, conversions are usually the difference  between a win and a lose. Unfortunately for the BearSkins, they experienced the latter against Keyport Lock.

4. The BrotherHood (2-0): They earned a hard-fought (26-19) victory La Brume, Saturday night in Brossard, on the shoulders of Omar Jackson and Quaysie Gordon-Maule, who combined for 3 touchdowns. Next up is a huge matchup against former teammates Lonnie and Quaid Johnson.

5.La Brume (1-1): The aforementioned loss to The BrotherHood, doesn’t them too much. A win versus Les Maloudes this week, would ensure they stay in the top 5.

6.Pineapple Express (1-1): After registering only 2 points vs 6 interceptions in a loss to KGP, valid questions about whether or not Quarterback Chris Olson, have started to arise. Can the veteran gunslinger silence the critics against a veteran Backyard Bullies squad, with multiple playmakers on defense.

7. 69ers (2-0): They earned a (25-19) win over a short-handed Trinity squad, who was without their starting Quarterback in Jean-Félix Marquis. Can the 69ers  make it three wins in a row against an impressive Junkyard Dogs team?

8.Junkyard Dogs (2-0): They put up 45 points on a clearly overwhelmed Olympia Performance team. While they can only play who is on their schedule, onlookers want to see what JYD can do against a much tougher 69ers squad.

9.Martine et le Flag (1-0-1): They were able to earn a point in their hard-fought (28-28) tie against The Crew. Let’s see if they can pull pull off a massive upset this week against Keyport Lock,

10. Backyard Bullies (2-0): With 8 touchdowns, a completion percentage of more than 60%, while averaging more than 14 yards per rush (14.3) it appears Quarterback Rich Humes is fully back to pre-injury form. Let’s see if the duo-threat QB can keep up the great play versus a dangerous Pineapple Express defense led by All-Star AJ Gomes.

Division 2

1. Taco Tuesday (2-0):  Team captain/leader Sean Avraam battled through an ankle injury to get the job done in week 2 and keep his team in the #1 spot. Taco Tuesday is looking like the strongest team in the divison right now with an incredibly high powered offense but let’s see how the defence holds up going into week 3.

2. Bad Boys: Another great name for this team would be Lockdown, seeing as they haven’t conceeded more than 20 points in a game yet this season. I think the key to their defensive success starts with the great rusher they have in Simon Bosquet Beaudouin who is already at 2 sacks in 3 games. They say defence wins championships so we should expect to see Bad Boys in the top 3 for most if not all of this season.

3. #NR: They remain undefeated after week 2, but for how long? Winning both of their games this season by only 2 points but hey a win is a win and they’ll take that W to the bank. QB Corey Pecker looks good so far and continues to spread the ball well throwing 7 TDs in last week’s shootout win. My main concern for this team is their Defence, they let in 37 points in week 1 and 41 points in week 2 so we have to ask ourselves, “Will they step up on D? or will they keep relying on their QB to outscore their opponent week after week?” For now the outscoring seems to be working so they can enjoy the #3 spot this week.

4.Les Studs: A nice shutout win for Les Studs helped boost their confidence back up after that tough week 1 loss by 2 points to #NR. It’s always nice when the other team can’t score on you (literally). Emile Taillefer looked like a two way star last game scoring 3 TDs and making 1 pick so be sure to keep an eye out for their top target when facing them. This week’s match up against BYOB will surely give us a better idea of what we can expect from this 1-1 team this season.

5 Terror Squad: Don’t count on them being this low in the power ranking for too long. Not the start they wanted to the season but we can count on this veteran team to turn things around and be back to their full potential. Keep your eye on QB Tam Vilaydeth going into week 3, I’m expecting a huge upset win vs #2 seeds Bad Boys.

6. BYOB: Never a shortage of points when these guys are on the field. They’ve put up 40+ points in both games this season and will likely continue to keep that going if no one can come up with an answer to stop them. The only answer we’ve seen thus far is #NR just outscoring them. They will need to clean some things up defensively but if they can do that they should be a team to fear.

7. The Underacheivers 2.0: Last but certainly not least we have The Underacheivers 2.0 sitting in the #7 spot which I’m sure they will be eager to climb out of. This week presents a great opportunity for that as they will face a struggling Killa Bees team. They need to use this game to get into rhythm and play like the team we expect to see. The Mclaren Brothers (Julian and Jordan) are sure to make the difference in this one.

Visions of the World of Tomorrow

Each week I make a pick to see who will win each of the gaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmeeeeeesssss of the week (that’s an easter egg for longtime Calling the Audible viewers/listeners).  I go head to head and toe to toe (isn’t it weird that we have two figures of speech involving two polar opposite body parts to describe the same situation)?  Well we lead off with an examination of last week’s picks.  Thank you Ignacio for preparing the statical breakdown for this article!  You’ll notice that other than div 1 (where I took a beating) I beat our pundits almost across every other division.  I’m usually terrible with picks because I get too invested in teams I love and they tend to bite me in the ass.  For the moment however, thank you teams for repaying my love.  If I didn’t pick you it’s absolutely personal.

Saturday’s Sinking Superstars

Week 2 is done and hopefully you’ve smiled for your team pics.  The rust has all but fallen off and teams are starting to look like themselves.  For those who have any thoughts, commentary or complaints, I am very easy to find.  I’m @peezefpf on twitter and Peeze Della Reeze on most other forms of social media.  You can also take a chance by emailing me at [email protected] and if it happens to be one of the two weeks per season that I check that email I will surely answer!

Remember that each week you can join the party on Facebook live or at www.youtube.com/flagplus on our weekly podcast: Calling the Audible.  The show starts each week at 7:30 pm and we discuss topics such as why I can’t reformat the external storage on my PS4, Eagle’s diabetes test and why it’s bad luck to toast with water!  Till next week, I want to thank you falettineme be mice elf agin!
