Week 2: The Great Outdoors and The Undefeated

Welcome back to Week 2’s installment of Iggy Magnet’s articles. First off, yeah it’s late! You’ll be getting a recap of what went down in Week 3 in the coming days! On tap for this article week are my Tierful talking points, a game recap, the Tier 3 and 4 Fantasy Teams of the Week and my Game Picks for those sdame tiers. With the temperatures dropping a bit this past week, it was felt last Monday night with the light rain passing through one’s chilled fingers as players waited to play their next game. That’s as much of an intro you’ll get out of me given last week’s mammoth-sized intro. Let’s simply dive in all things FPF.

Tierful Talking Points

  • Tier 1
  • Blessed are averaging a whopping 40 points per game and are still undefeated after 3 games (2-0-1) after defeating KGP and tying EZW in Week 2.
  • STL blasted #NR 40-19 in Adam Sinagra‘s return to FPF.
  • While EZW competed with Blessed, they were no match for Kangaroos who laid 48 on them. In that game, Darren Wiltshire went OFF for Tyreek Hill numbers, catching 7 balls for 140 yards and 1 TD.
  • Rocco Christiano of STL caught 5 balls for 53 yards and 4 TD’s 👀. That’s making the most impact out of your catches. Oh and nevermind his 2 INTs, one of which went for a pick. The man was on 🔥🔥🔥last Thursday night.
  • Braves came out with the win against Run it Once, but it came at the expense of an injury to JD Chevalier. Let’s see how serious the injury is for Braves and hope he can get back on the field quickly.

  • Tier 2
  • Kiss My Outlaws are the class of the Tier 2 and it’s not even close. Highest scoring team (averaging 44 points for) and lowest points allowed (averaging 15.5 points against), It makes no sense how this team is in Tier 2.
  • Phil Pharand of Kiss My Outlaws had 3 INTs against Benoit Lawlor and Team Ethnik on Monday night. That puts him as the INT leader in Tier 2. In 2nd? Marvin Steinberg of KMO. Tied for 3rd? Sanders Armand of KMO.. Kiss My Outlaws is a TURNOVER MACHINE.
  • Blackouts were able to bounce back from their Week 1 loss and beat Centaures on the season’s opening GOTW. Great to see this product back on the shelves. Not many people in FPF know about Jeremy Rooney, but they soon will. The guy has some serious wheels. He leads Tier 2 with 141 receiving yards.
  • In a losing effort, Chad Buck (Friends Without Danny) had a breakout game, with 8 receptions, 96 yards and a hat-trick of TD’s.
  • In his debut with Mangoose, James Drysdale had 30 yards on 5 receptions, but 3 of those catches went for touchdowns. Nic Schaefer is gonna looove his new set of receivers in Drysdale, Oliver Suri and Dominic Stiplosek. Also, Gabriel Drapeau-Zgoralski might just be the best flag football name.
  • The Beer Belly defense has impressively only given up 37 points against combined, in their first 2 games of the season. They are off to a 2-0 start to the season.
  • Tier 3:
  • 26 points against in 3 games is just ridiculous for the Bruins in Tier 3. There’s a strong argument to made that they should have been a Tier 2 team.
  • Dime and Bougie were unable to get their revenge on Killer Rays after losing to them in the Spring season’s Quarterfinal playoffs, losing to them 37-31.
  • Sulé Fess suffered a loss in Week 2 and will have a very tough time against Bruins in Week 3 to get back in the win column. That’s what I wrote before the game was played, and yeah, they lost 32-6 to the Bruins. They fall to 1-2 and will play Trapstars on Monday night in the outdoors of NDG.
  • After winning Receiver of the Year in Div E, AJ Zeppetelli is looking for another in Tier 3. He’s 3rd in the Tier with 163 receiving yards, and T-1st with 6 TD’s.
  • Ouch. Threat Level Midnight fall to 0-3 to start the year and the offense is struggling to put up points. 24 points in 3 games is rough.
  • These damn Thursday Brossard games getting postponed. 3 teams have only played 1 game so far while the Bruins have played 4.
  • Speaking of the Bruins…. 32 points allowed in 4 games. They have the MOST games played and the LEAST points allowed. That’s CRAZYYY!
  • I love the Ammar Jessa convert statline: 1x XP1, 1x XP2, 1x XINT1. C’mon man! 6 more games to return an 2-point convert to the house for a stat in each column!
  • Killer Rays vs. Kiss My Inlaws will be a great game on Sunday night as two 2-0 teams do battle. Which team will come away 3-0?
  • Tier 4:
  • The Penetrators vs. Save The Turftles was a great battle last Monday night, with The Penetrators showing who’s the class of the division. It was likely a Finals preview.

Penetrators stop Save The Turftles on 4th down in the Redzone
  • Tyler Laroche of The Step Bros leads the Tier with 3 INTs in 3 games, one of which went back for a pick-6.
  • The Step Bros have won 2 games in a row; 18-12 against Deep Ballz and 12-6 over QB Roulette. While the 2 wins are nice, they still haven’t managed to score more than 20 points in a game. That will catch up to them when playing a team like Primetime in Week 4.
  • Max Arnovitz is your converts leader with three XP1 conversions.
  • Primetime vs. WIB 2.0 will be a primetime showdown in Week 3 on September 28th.
  • Guillaume Dubois, Simon Imbach and Thomas Chaussé (all of Save The Turftles) are 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the receiving yards department, respectively. Cheung is putting up big yards and everyone’s getting a piece of the pie.
  • Even with WIB 2.0 at 0-2, I’m not worried about them at all. They should be a team in Green (Double-Elimination team) by the end of the season.
  • Nic Fon is the first receiver to hit 200 receiving yards.
  • Red Dragons have a tough schedule Weeks 3 and 4. They lost big to Save The Turftles (expected), and will need to run with WIB 2.0 and The Penetrators. Stay positive after those games. My advice? Drive the field with short plays at a time, chew the clock and make it a 1 possession game for as long as possible.
  • Co-Ed:
  • There were a lot more close games this week in Co-Ed: Les pas-cares got their first W of the season against Iced Out, Fast Not Furious got a 1 point victory over Les Petits Phoques in a barn burner of a game, 46-45, and Y&Y edged out Kiss My End Zone 33-27 on the 2nd to last play of the game.
  • Badgers, after only putting up 6 points in Week 1, were able to get the offense rolling, putting 32 points on Iced Out for the 32-14 victory. Cesar Garcia-Diaz showed he’s got that connection with Omar Chavez, ending the night with 3 TDs. Those 2 led the way defensively as well, combing for 2 INTs and 4 PD’s while Yarel Fragoso was able to record 1 sack.
  • Who will stay undefeated the longest? Free Smoke, The Villians, EZFun or Fast Not Furious? My educated guess: EZFun and Fast Not Furious, who so happen to play each other in the last game of the season 👀
  • Mohammed Nechchad and Ryan Dobbs-Garnett lead the Tier with 5 TDs each.
  • Dobbs is your reception leader with 16 catches.
  • Joey Notaro leads Co-Ed with 172 receiving yards.
  • The Benchwarmers got Gab Wiseman back at QB but it wasn’t enough against Free Smoke. While Kristopher Verreault subbed in at QB game 1 of their season, he lined up at receiver and caught 6 balls for 40 yards and 2 TDs against FS. The females on the team, Patricia Boivin and Aryane Boucher were both targeted twice and caught both targets that went there way. I can see Gab Wiseman getting them as, or more involved in the offense. Benchwarmers are the favorites in their game against Badgers in Week 3.
  • The Villains will face their first true test of the season in Week 3 against Free Smoke. Let’s see if their offense can still average 40 points a game. Jérémi Thompson OReilly is FAST, but Free Smoke have the athletes to contain him. Let’s see how well he can read a defense.
  • Huh? Fitsquad don’t a play a game next until October 3rd??

  • Women’s:
  • Woah! Vortex are GOOOOODD. They’ve put up a whopping 141 points in their 3 games of the season and will put that high-octane offense against BRUTES.
  • Laurence Pontbriand is making a name for herself in both Co-Ed and the Women’s division. She’s looking to be the next star and her 190 yards, 14 receptions and 3 TDs are all 3rd best in each respective category.
  • Catherine Girard of Vortex is your receptions, yards (263) and TD leader (6) after 2 weeks of the FPF Cup. She’s on pace for the triple crown! Not to mention she’s got 3 INT’s on defense.
  • Rachelle Vallieres is doing Rachelle Vallieres things, and is adding to her INT totals from last season. She’s tied for 1st in INTs along with the aforementioned Girard.
  • Rachel Vanier (Vortex) has the most extra point converts with three successful 1-point conversions.
  • We’ve got the 2 undefeated teams going against each other, BRUTES vs. Vortex, 7pm Lachine, on Field 1. Vortex will be looking to once again put 40 points on the board while BRUTES will be looking to score more than 13 like they did against Red Nation. This one’s a game not to be missed.

Game Recap – Tier 4

TuneSquad vs. The Penetrators

So The Penetrators were the favorites coming into the game, and there were a few things that showed it. First, Nic Fon stretched the field early in this game with his 29 yard TD on the 4th play of the game. He would once again find the endzone, this time for 31 yards, 2 plays into their 2nd drive after Jake Halpern came away with an interception on TuneSquad Quarterback, Garner Ross‘ first drive of the night. The 2nd Fon TD of the night put the Penetrators up 13-0. So two scoring drive for the Penetrators, a 4-play drive and 2-play, this forced TuneSquad to play more Cover 3 defenses.

Ross would lead a 7-play drive for the first score of the night for TuneSquad, a 6-yard TD strike to Dylan Merovitz. The difference in drive lengths was noticeable. The Penetrators took their next drive to the house in 4 plays: 1 incompletion and then 3 straight completions and The Penetrators made it a 19-7 game after Jake Halpern grabbed an 18-yarder into the endzone.

On the next TuneSquad drive, Ross would complete 4 of 5 passes, 3 completions which went to Ben Arnovitz, who would punch it in from 5-yards out. TuneSquad then needed the defensive stop to end the half with 3 plays remaining. It started great with an incomplete pass from Justin Goodman. As a defense, with 2 plays remaining with 40 yards to go, there’s 2 main things I’m ensuring. First, we’re playing Cover 3, with my short playing soft 10-12 yards downfield, and 2nd, I’m making sure we know what to do if there’s a 2nd quarterback that drops. Nic Fon, as he did early in the game though, burned them for 35 yards and on the last play, Noah Assayag made them pay with the 5-yard touchdown to end the half.

Here’s where TuneSquad, while they’ve been playing FPF since their junior days and have accumulated some experience, still showed they need to manage and take their knowledge to the next level. Here’s some free advice for them, but also The Pens or if you are a new team reading this. Barring any interceptions, you usually will get 3 drives in the 2nd half if you start with the ball on offense (maybe a 4th if your defense can steal a possession). Assume the worst though, and you only have 3 possessions. The game situation is that you are down 2 scores, 26-13. To tie the game, you need to score on 2 of your 3 possessions (and stop them on D once). To go ahead in the game, you need to score on all 3 possessions (and then stop them again to hold on for the victory). Ask yourselves this if your TuneSquad. Have you stopped the opposing offense on defense so far? The answer is no. So why am I saying all this? Well on the first drive to open the 2nd half, TuneSquad went 3 straight plays with incompletions and decided to punt on 4th down. Next time you find yourself in this situation, go for it on 4th down. Even if you don’t convert, The Penetrators take the ball on your own 10, and even if they score, they taking only take 1-2 mins off the clock, otherwise you stopped them and made a goal-line stop. Instead, you punted, and Penetrators, now an experienced team under the tutelage in prior season of Rocco Christiano, now drove the field on an 8-play drive that took almost 6 minutes off the clock (about a quarter of the 2nd half). That drive essentially iced the game for The Pens, as they stayed undefeated on the season in Week 2.

Players of the game:

TuneSquad: Ben Arnovitz – 6 receptions, 8 targets, 75 yards, 2 TDs, 1 tackle

The Penetrators: Nicolas Fon – 6 receptions, 7 targets, 106 yards, 3 TDs, 3 tackles, 1 sack, 1 PD.

Epilogue

Well, that finally completes the Week 2 article. Don’t worry, the Week 3 article will be out much sooner than this one. To all teams, make the most of the season, some teams have already played 4 games and are at the mid-way point of the season! Others have only played 1 game due to Brossard cancelling Thursday games for us. Also, if you are one of the 7 teams without a picture, we will be sending photographers your way!

Cheers!
