Week 10 Division 6/6D Article – Divisional Thoughts, Recaps, Fantasy Team, Power Rankings, Picks and Playoff-related matchups

Hey Divison 6 players! Welcome to the article dedicated to your division. I’ve been writing Power Rankings and picking your games all year, but now I’ll be deep diving into the state of the division with the playoffs right around the corner. From now on, you’ll be seeing more or less of the following content: Game Recaps, Power Rankings, Fantasy Team of the week with top performing players, Game Picks and matchups that have a high impact on playoff standings. I’ll be closing out the season in this type of article format, so hope you enjoy the different pace and segments this style allows us.

But first, some Divisional thoughts:

  • Wow, 4 of the top 5 QB’s in passing yards, and all the top 5 QB’s in passing TD’s in Div 6 are all 1st time QB’s. It’s nice to see WR’s attempting the QB position in Div 6 and seeing what their regular QB’s see (Luis Begin, David Roaldi, Mitch Fergenbaum are QB’s that come to mind).
  • Cooper Young is stealing the WR show. 1st in yards (608), T-1 in receptions (47) and 1st in TD’s (20!!). Oh, and he’s only played 8 games so far. NASTY!
  • Fafard is killing it in 6D. I’m glad we have the promotion/relegation rule. It’s for instances like these, and teams like What Could Have Beens that we try and even the playing field in a division we know little going into the season.
  • Ballin 60’s are making a late playoff push, and might just squeak in because of 2 ties.
  • Mathematically, all teams are alive in 6D with the exception of Here for the Beer. But let’s be honest, they’re just Here for the Beer. Happy St. Patrick’s day, in advance to you my friends.
  • Don’t forget to turn your clocks up 1 hour tonight! More sun, more daylight, just a little closer to summer football.
  • Div 6 – Disappointed in: Trailer Park Boys, Tankin’ for Tua, Stack Your Roster and MACDO. I had higher expectations for you guys!
  • Div 6 – Surprised with: Primetime, The Potatoes, Chambo.
  • Div 6D – Disappointed in: Raw Sauce, Here for the Beer, Zone 6 Ballers, The Replacements.
  • Div 6D – Surprised with: Lionhearts, Green Wave, Goon Squad, 89.9ers. Having 89.9ers here might leave some of your scratching your head, but I like their athleticism, and from Week 1, they are much improved. I hope they stick with it for another season or 2 to see them develop. It’s been done before, just look at previous records of the Lionhearts, South Shore Seamen and Goon Squad.

Week 9 Game Recaps

Trailer Park Boys (4-5) vs. Stop Whining (3-5)
Final Score: TPB 0 – Stop Whining 25

Ouch, did the Trailer Park Boys show up to this game? Something must have happened. TPB’s offense is known to spudder, but not like this. Was the team late and conceded 6 points every 5 minutes? Antoine Meunier going 2/7 for 27 yards, 0 TD’s and 2 INT’s? The stats and play-by-play tell a funny story, but TPB’s have to remain composed, which was not the case, and is easier said than done. Whatever the circumstances, Yossi Cohen was able to drive down the field 3 times and the Stop Whining defense, notably Jeff Seidal and Devin O’Donnell, were able to come away with 1 turnover each, never giving the Trailer Park Boys a chance in this one. Both teams need the W in their next game, which are tough outings for both squads. TPB’s face off against Space Apes while Stop Whining take on the high-flying Trapstars in their respective cross-conference battles.

7th Rounders (7-2) vs. Les Studz (8-1)
Final Score: 7th Rounders 49 – Les Studz 26

This was a highly anticipated matchup in 6D, as 2 of the heavyweights of Conference B, after having a relatively easy schedule to date, were finally facing tough competition. I was able to catch a glimpse of this game, and unfortunately saw a gruesome eye injury to one of Les Studz players. I hope he’s doing alright, because blood running around his eye, and his eyeball being red with internal bleeding looked painful and ugly. Concern for their teammate may have thrown off Les Studz players, because giving up 41 points in the 1st half is not normal in FPF nor for Les Studz standard of play.
On the other side of the coin however, credit to Francis Savard-Vocino who had his best game as a Quarterback, finishing with an impressive 141.2 QB rating. He went 13/18, 170 yards, 4 TD’s and 0 INT’s. Not only that, but he took his 3 rushing attempts for 54 yards and 2 more touchdowns. He was just unstoppable in this one and did it by getting everyone involved in the offense as all 6 of his receivers had a reception. His usual #1 receiver, Jafar Hassan, only had 14 yards, but as the team can probably attest, when evreyone can do damage as a receiver, it makes it that much harder to defend, and putting up 49 points is a clear example of that.

DB- Arnaud Prince-Duthel (Stack Your Roster) – 2 INT’s, 1 INT
Rusher- Terry Babalis (Space Apes): 6 sacks, 1 tackle

Div 6D

Power Rankings

Div 6

1. Suicide Squad (7-0-1) – Took care of Average Joe’s with little problem, but according to Gabe Wiseman, it was their closest matchup of the season. Alex Noel is dangerous with the ball in his hands on every play.

2. Winnie Tha Bish (7-0-1) – It’s a finals appearance or bust for Winnie Tha Bish.

3. Masters of Coin (6-1-1) – Tons of talent. Can they piece it all together in 4 consecutive playoff games?

4. Primetime (8-2) – Quietly atop Conference A (for now) with a 7-2 record. It feels strange to call them a darkhorse team, but they’re a darkhorse team because of their relative newness to FPF, with only a couple of players with 1 season’s experience.

5. Space Apes (5-3) – Great battle vs. Trapstars as seen on Game of the Week. Terry Babalis can disrupt an offence like none other. When their offense is rolling, it’s tough to stop.

6. Trapstars (5-3) – They put up a great fight against Space Apes but Ryan Garber came up short on the final drive, throwing a pick to seal the deal for Space Apes. He has to use that drive as a lesson learnt for the playoffs.

7. Average Joe’s (6-3) – Tough game against Suicide Squad. Like Garber, I threw a pick on pretty much our final drive that ice’d the game for Suicide Squad. Gotta learn from it and play a cleaner playoff game.

8. Pension Plan (6-3) – They’ve been alternating wins and losses for some time now, and giving up 31 points to a struggling Kings of the North offence isn’t too encouraging. Luckily they can move the ball with ease offensively after so many years playing together.

9. The Potatoes (5-4) – Was a little strange seeing Sam Lamothe running routes and not in the backfield throwing the ball. Instead, they went with Jeremy Pelletier for some reason, and didn’t fare too well, completing only 6 balls to his receiveres, and another 3 to Master of Coin defenders. Maybe some time to experiment, but Lamothe should definitely be the playoff QB.

10. Chambo (5-3-1) – Wrecked Llamas Pyjamas, Chambo, or the Chuck Norris Rambo’s, are one of the hottest teams in the division, going 5-1-1 in their last 7 games, and just in time with the playoffs in 2 weeks.

Note: The Power Rankings at the end of Week 9 look exactly like Week 8, which is why I didn’t include the Last Week vs. This Week part. So, it’s not a mistake that you find yourselves in the same slot as last week, nor is it a form of laziness on my part. I truly believe that everyone played to expectations and were seeded exactly where they should be, and stayed there as a result.

Div 6D

1. What Could Have Beens (9-0) – They’ve officially cliched a spot in the Division 6 playoffs. Clearly too good for 6D, will they be challenged against Div 6 teams, or will they continue their dominance?

This Week: #1     Last Week: #1

2. Trojans (8-0) – Just putting up another 50+ point performance. See you in the Div 6 playoffs.

This Week: #2     Last Week: #2

3. 7th Rounders (7-2) – Great statement win against Les Studz, posting a convincing 49-26 victory over a strong team.

This Week: #3    Last Week: #6

4. Les Studz (8-1) – Now that they’ve got their first loss of the season out of the way, they can regroup and focus on what’s important: playoffs.

This Week: #4     Last Week: #3

5. Tropic Thunder (8-1) – Ouch, is their loss to Inglorious Basterds a sign of vulnerability? They’ve got 2 more games to bear down and get their groove back.

This Week: #5     Last Week: #4

6. Stiffy Arm (5-3) – An up and down team all year. Unsure of where this team stands. Obviously, it’s best they will be staying in 6D for the playoffs, but how deep they will go is a question mark for me.

This Week: #6     Last Week: #7

7. Believe The Hype* (5-2-1 and *Trivia Champs) – Hmm.. Will Jared Gallant be their quarterback for the rest of the season? That would be a truly interesting proposition and make them a very dangerious team in the playoffs. Let’s see where that storyline goes. Also, last shoutout to Believe the Hype for coming out to Trivia night @ Honey Martin, hope you boys enjoyed yourself and spread the word to your friends!

This Week: #7     Last Week: #5

8. Inglorious Basterds (6-2) – Probably tired of me lowering them in the Power Rankings, Inglorious Basterds kicked it up a notch, beating down on Tropic Thunder, a team atop of the standings all season. Glad to have given the spark you needed!

This Week: #8     Last Week: #10

9. Green Wave (5-4) – Darkhorse team heading into the playoffs. Not sure you would want to face this team.

This Week: #9     Last Week: #9

10. Lionhearts (5-4) – Officially clinched their first playoff appearance. Time to take all that experience and translate it to the playoffs, where things are faster, coverage is tighter, and the intensity and nerves are jacked up. Goodluck!

This Week: #10     Last Week: #8

Playoff Picture – Important Week 10 games

Div 6
Stack Your Roster (3-6) vs. Pension Plan (6-3) – Stack Your Roster did themselves a huge favor in Week 9, beating the #8 seed they are chasing in Tankin’ for Tua. As I mention this and review the standings, I believe the standings are incorrect, as Stack Your Roster should be in the 8th slot since they just beat Tankin’ for Tua and the first tie-breaker is head-to-head. Regardless, they can clinch a playoff spot with a win against Pension Plan, which is a tough team to beat any week of the season.

MACDO (2-7) vs. Fridge Raiders (4-5) – MACDO, even with a rough season so far, can clinch a playoff spot by beating the Fridge Raiders. MACDO has some talent on the team, so they could cause an early upset in round 1 if they make it.

Div 6D
Killer Rays (3-5) vs. South Shore Seamen (4-4) – 2 teams in the bubble spot, both looking to win this one to set them up positively for their final game of the season in Week 11.

Ballin 60’s (2-4-2) vs. Stiffy Arm (5-3) – Ballin 60’s are on the outside looking in right now and really need the win because of their 2 ties.
Mountain Goats (3-5) vs. Here for the Beer – Mountain Goats did a solid for themseleves, beating The Replacements to leap frog them in the head-to-head tiebreaker, as both teams now sit at 3-5. Beat Here for the Beer and Moutain Goats clinch a playoff berth.

Boucsaneers (2-7) vs. SAFTB (3-5) – While SAFTB’s have been in the cellar for much of the season, they interestingly, with a win against Boucsaneers on Sunday March 8th, might just squeak into the playoffs. They have the tiebreaker against both Goon Squad and Mountain Goats, who are in the 7 and 8 spots right now. Oddly enough, Boucsaneers also have a shot in, as they too beat Mountain Goats back in Week 3. They would need other things to fall in place, but they have a chance, which is always fun when your last game of the season means something.

Hope you enjoyed the fresh take on the divison and the article format. I had a fun time writing this one and look forward to the rest of the season. For any feedback feel free to hit me up, [email protected], or come by during Honey Martin trivia, and whether I’m hosting or playing myself, come chat FPF playoffs and give me the #1 reason why your team is gonna win it all.
