Turning the Page | Week 9
As division two wraps up and is now awaiting playoffs, division one has one more crack at the can to settle all affairs. For all of you who find themselves with nothing to look forward to but next season, know this: whatever you did this year that has put you in this situation, do not repeat the same preparation, do not bring back the same people and most importantly do not come back with the same game plan. If I were you, I would try and catch some playoff games; can’t hurt to learn a thing or two from those who seem to have a recipe for success! Pretty simple advice right? I don’t know why some people need to be reminded that in all failure comes a lesson. Losses, something most people choose to ignore more often then none and only the honest and humbled take advantage of. If you think you’re perfect and want to blame it all on things outside your realm of control, so be it. You can’t help the ignorant… at least I choose not to. I can already imagine all the guys salivating for the summer season. I know I would already impatiently be waiting for the next season as early as that last whistle to the game that ends my season. So get pumped or don’t, but never give up. Sleep on it and get back into your general manager role making off season acquisitions and adjustments.
So what’s better? Having a first round bye and essentially 3 weeks off starting last Sunday, or having that first round match-up you’ve been dreading since week 6? I guess it’s very team relevant. From personal experience, I know all that time off a team has will ultimately affect the start of your next game. In essence, the more players you have playing in other games, the better it is for your team as a whole. My advice to you: have an organized scrimmage against a team in a higher division (even if that team is eliminated). At the end of the day what you need is to maintain the level chemistry you worked all year towards.
Quick Highlights:
–Although there were numerous games in division one with very little implication, division two still had a couple important games. Les Monsieur Chats against Usual Suspects really drew a clear picture of the kind of season Usual Suspect has had. With a playoff spot on the line for LMC, they showed up ready to crush the wall of doubters. A 39-0 victory is exactly how you want to head in to the playoffs. Pressure doesn’t faze real players; real players show up when the lights get turned on and all of a sudden you feel like you’re in a corner by yourself. If a stranger knocked at your door, and when you answered the door they walked in and went straight to your fridge, what would you do? I guarantee you that person wouldn’t get two feet inside my doorway. LMC took that stranger and tossed his ass to the curb. Samuel Bibeault finally showed us all why I told you to watch out for him on defense. He had 2 interceptions and one he brought back to the house. Let’s not lie and say Usual Suspects deserved a better faith. When you want something in life you have to fight for it. Last time I checked there was still no one handing out free-bees. Good for you LMC for taking what you believed was yours. Whether you’re in 1st, 4th or 6th, you have to beat the best to win the ship, no matter what order it is in!
-Terror Squad squeezed a point out of D-Boys in a 38-38 tie. Too bad that’s going to be characterized as “too little too late”. With Demons 3rd win on the season this week against Express, both Express and Terror Squad are mathematically out! Tam Vilaydeth plainly did everything he could to help the offense; he passed for 185 yards, 5 touchdowns and added 65 yards plus another TD with his legs. D-Boys can continue to prepare for their match-up against DK in round one.
-I’m not sure this stat is correct but I’m pretty sure Montreal’s Finest has won 38 games in a row. I only know this because they were celebrating it after they beat my team down like we were practice dummies on a Tuesday practice. Either way, that’s incredible! The chemistry that webs these guys together is insane. Add the fact that Kevin Wyeth literally looks like he belongs in professional football the way he throws the pig skin, I don’t see them losing any time soon. I’ve never seen a team with so many stars take on a reduced role on a team for the greater good like they do. 100 % of these guys should ply both ways. I hope one day a team will duplicate their success but I highly doubt that’ll ever happen.
-Oh so you guys decided you would just not show up? Wolfpack…BC et Les McGonagals… TMT… you have no clue how strongly I feel about teams who decide they have nothing to gain by showing up to a game that does not matter for their team. A farce is how I would describe your action. What can the league do to avoid this in the future? I think The Don/EL Capitano should hold a deposit for the season until week 10. Once your team has played all ten games and not forfeited for the sole reason that you’re mathematically out of the playoffs, you may get that deposit back. But I understand the logistics are a headache. The teams making playoffs and not allowing the others a fighting chance is in my eyes unfair.
-Legends took first place and a round one bye effortlessly. Nathan Taylor had his worst game of the season as a quarterback. Jeremy Cola was in his kitchen all night and forced a couple of uncharacteristic floaters to get intercepted. Ryan Lelinowski and Dave Chitayat coupled for 3 interceptions, which made it impossible for FFF to ever have a chance. FFF’s offense didn’t look the same at all last Sunday. From the dropped balls to Nate’s inability to buy time with his feet, I suspect something is up. Either way I wouldn’t want to be the team to play them in the playoffs.
-Rainmakers finally got back to their winning ways beating Flag Moi L’sac 45-39. Ryan Kastner raised the bar throwing for 251 yards and 7 touchdowns. He threw the ball to five different receivers over 4 times each; can you spread the ball any better? This busts the conference wide open. While Conference B has been settled since the schedule came out, Conference A is still up for grabs! Rainmakers now hold the head to head advantage over FML, which is a decent advantage with a preferable week ten match-up.

Division 1 Freaks of the Week:

WR: Akked Moore ~6 Receptions for 80 yards and 4 TDs~ MORE seems to be the motto, freak to freak (Kev to Akked, a combination everyone is unlucky to have to deal with.

My Picks Week 10:
Demons (+6.5) VS Montreals Finest
Express (+4.5) VS DK
Flag Moi L’Sac (+1.5) VS D-Boys
Terror Squad (+5.5) VS Rainmakers
Last week was a horror show for me; I went 0-4 for my first time ever. That makes me 22 for 32 on the season.
Alright, so my predictions for division 1 were a little off the charts. Can you look at division 2 and see how I was almost dead on in so many cases?!! I’m going to go ahead and give myself a pat on the back since I know no one else will 😉 maybe my editor will, if I decide to re hire her this week.
Overall Rankings VS My Prediction My Pre season Prediction
1- **Montreal’s Finest 9-0 18 PTS 1- Montreals Finest 9-1

I’ll be the first to say that is not top quality work. I would’ve lost a couple dollars if I were a betting man, but with the proper hedging I could’ve came out on top.
*Clinched playoff
**Clinched a first round bye
^Mathematically out

Coming up:
This upcoming week hosts a handful of games with very little value. The only thing left to figure out is whether FML or Rainmakers will get the bye for week one. I believe FML will lock up that bye and therefore we will end up with Demons VS Rainmakers and D-Boys VS DK round one. Division two has to now sit tight and wait for the season to wrap up. Stay tuned next week where I will be handing out end of year report cards that may or may not ruffle your tail feathers.
Thank you for taking the time to read my article. I usually have a generic paragraph here that no one reads but this week things are shaking up. I’m currently writing my article from the comfort of my hotel room in Pittsburgh. I will be away for work purposes until late Friday and therefore will not be able to entertain you guys on the podcast. Lucky for you I found the perfect replacement to tell the truth! The one and only… the hall of fame rusher… the men with the balls of steel… in the left corner standing 5 feet 8 inches… wearing white and blue… telling the truth out of Montreal Canada… MATTTTTT LA MACHINA KIROUACCCC… Don’t forget the show is Thursday night around 10:15! Enjoy and we shall see each other on the other side. Until then, get in the gym.
