Toronto Foods, Division Standings Shake Up and Must-Wins

Alright, we once got some catching up to do in Div 3 after I was in Toronto last week. Toronto? Really? Yeah, well at least I was able to chow down on some good food. Of course, nothing beats the Montreal restaurant scene, but there’s some stuff you can find in TO that you can’t here. Start with the Peeze-recommended COPS donuts. They say you eat with your eyes, so behold the Sour Cream, cinnamon sugar and Espresso donuts. These tiny, fully and warm donuts hit the spot for an afternoon snack with a coffee.

Then… a guilty pleasure of mine, but… Chipottttllleee

And then, goddamn, a Honduran plate that is absolutely drool-worthy. A creamy-sauced piece of bone-in fried chicken, with fried plantain under a creamy coleslaw with pickled onions and diced fresh tomatoes, jalapenos and onions. Wowza, even the kid sitting at the other table begged his parents to buy 4 more of these so they could have it for dinner later that night and lunch the next day lol. Oh, and don’t forget the Horchata drink. Safe to say, I’m watching what I’m eating in April.

Ok, enough food for now. Back to FPF. Don’t forget the Division 3 playoff format will be unveiled this week, so stay tuned for Calling The Audible this coming week of April 1st, as well as posted through our socials. Next week’s article will also break it down for further explanation!

Division 3 Newsletter Headlines

  • That BrotherHood defense is legit! Great battle between KMI and BH with BH getting the stop on the last play of the game from 5-6 yards out. The BrotherHood had one hell of a weekend, getting 2 critical wins over The Infantry and Kiss My Inlaws after their loss to EZW.
  • And just like that, Backyard Bullies are first in Group D (as of Saturday morning, March 30th) but have Dime and Bougie right on their tail. If DB wins out, they will win the division, with LGC and Lightweight left on the Dime and Bougie schedule. Not the easiest path for the Group title. Backyard Bullies themselves, finish the season against A-Team, while Lightweight play Dirty Birds and of course play, Dime and Bougie as I mentioned, so should be a battle till the very last game for the Group.
  • Group C has gotten interesting with the KMI loss to BH. AF1 now sits atop the Group and will finish their season on Saturday March 30th against Mel’s Angels, needing a win to of course, give themselves the best chance at winning Group C. Finishing the season 7-3 for AF1 would be outstanding, as I did not see that happening going into the season.
  • Bruins have a lot of games in the coming days, 3 games in the next 7 days. They are sitting at 6-1 right now and could be sitting atop the entire division in a weeks time if they go 3-0 with games against That’s What She Said, Sharks and Mongoose, 3 tough tests for the Bruins. If they win out, would we consider them THE team to beat?

Corey Walwaski has thrown the 4th most TD’s with 39 and sits at a 4:1 TD-to-INT ratio

  • Sharks vs. Lightweight last week went into OT as we discussed on CTA. The lack of going for 2 and increasing the comfort with 2-point attempts was going to hurt Simon Dagenais at one point and it was here. Let’s see if it hurts him and the team come playoff time. Time to start practicing 2 point plays!
  • With the recent games, the division has gone topsy turvy. A month ago, Lightweight looked like a clear favorite and now sit in 6th. I think the division is actually tighter than what most people though, myself included. I thought there were 5 true contenders, and now I think that list is growing to 7-8. Lately, the favorites have been closing close games, meaning the parity in the division is quite high, and Week 13 has a lot of games that require a closer look. Can LGC upset Dime and Bougie? Can A-Team take down EZW? Sharks vs. Bruins looks like a Semi-Final or Final potential matchup. Seriously, some great games this week.
  • Mel’s Angels got a massive win over A-Team in Week 12, to keep their playoff hopes alive. They sit in the 20th spot in the standings, which happens to be the final playoff spot, sitting at 3-5 (as of Saturday morning, March 30th).
  • GHB have the most control over their playoff lives, playing 2 teams they are directly chasing for the playoffs. Very interesting team to watch out for in the final weeks.
  • Blue Chips, on the other hand, went 0-2 last weekend, and are now on a 3-game losing streak. While they are not mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, they basically MUST win out. This is true for Wide Open Bar and Greendale Human Beings as well. In fact, Blue Chips play GHB’s on Saturday March 30th, so that is definitely a lose-and-your-done matchup. The Chips then play BBB. WOB play A-Team and then The Infantry, so definitely not an easy road for the playoffs, and GHB end their season against Mel’s Angels.
  • Wide Open Bar continue to surprise and keep their playoff hopes alive, coming away with a Week 12 victory over the Sharks and now a Week 13 must-win over A-Team (I will try to avoid talking Week 13 Saturday games and leave that for next week, but that WOB win was so clutch to save their season, it had to be mentioned now!).
  • Une Phrase Bien Fournie and Speed Academy, farewell, goodbye, playoffs are not in your future. Thanks for playing and go get that win in your final game!

Receiver of the Year in Div 3 is actually a VERY interesting race. I think Emyl Gregoire is the leader right now, but it’s damn close. Jamie Ojeaha, AJ Zeppetelli, Rory Semerjian, Alexandre Barros, James Tyrrell and James Drysdale are just some of the names in contention.

  • In Week 12, AF1’s defense had 6 interceptions 👀 against Une Phrase; Antoine Caron had 2 as did Jonathan Bigras, while Nicolas Dumitru and Xavier Collette contributed with 1 each. In Week 11, it was Alex Szalipszki who had a massive game for AF1. He had 2 sacks, 1 INT which was a Pick 6, and ran in the game-winning touchdown from 12 yards out. Crazy performance in Simon Blais‘ absence.
  • Manu Allard-Roy had a big game in Dime and Bougie’s successful weekend in Week 12, with a 12 reception, 13 target, 107 yards and 2 TD performance against Speed Academy
  • If it weren’t for the 11 INTs from Etienne Laurence-Gervais of EZW, Gianni Johnston would be the leader for DPOY at this point. Can he get to 22 sacks? I think he needs to hit that mark to start considering him for the award.
  • Here are the results of last article’s question. Group A is the community’s vote for toughest/best group in the Div, with Group B a close 2nd.
