Tier 1 Week 2 Recap

TIER 1 WEEK 2 FOOTBALL!

This week we had some very interesting matchups – teams looking for their first win, and teams looking to keep their momentum and stay undefeated. No time to waste, let’s get right into it!

Da Braves vs Dzod Team

Da Braves 38 Dzod Team 18

Week 2 had an early Sunday morning start with 2 teams playing their first games due to being on bye in Week 1. Dzod Team took an early lead, scoring in the first drive, but that lead was short-lived. Only 4 plays later Joe Maheu hit Charles Verreault for a 19-yard touchdown. From then on, Da Braves did what they do best and ran away with the game. Dzod Team wasn’t able to score on their next drive and, against Maheu, that is something no team can afford to do. On their next offensive play, Maheu hit Emile Chateauvert for a 40-yard touchdown. Da Braves would go on to win in a convincing victory.

In any game, however, there will be bright spots on both sides of the ball. For Da Braves, Chateauvert’s performance is what stood out to me the most: 78 yards and a touchdown is great, but it was his ability to rush Jeanslee Alexis that  made the largest impact. 3 sacks is huge! For Dzod Team, Felix Boutet caught all 3 of their touchdowns and accumulated 78 yards. On defence, Boutet was able to be a disruption as well, causing two pass breakups.

This was Game 1 for both of these teams. Stay tuned – there’s a lot more to come for both of these teams.

Blessed vs KGP

Blessed 20 KGP 49

After missing Week 1, KGP’s Phil Cutler is back and he looked great! 21 completions on 22 attempts for 264 yards and 7 touchdowns, a near perfect performance in a dominant win. On the other side of the ball, Blessed was without their usual quarterback in Stephen Harripersaud, replacing him with FPF vet Mathieu René

René was able to find the endzone on 3 occasions but also had turnover problems throwing 3 interceptions. At the highest level of FPF, it is very rare to throw multiple interceptions and still win the game. René is a solid quarterback and, if he needs to step in and throw again, I’m sure with more chemistry he will become more successful.

To me, this game was all about Cutler: his impact on both sides of the ball is up there with the best FPF has to offer. KGP takes a massive hit when he is not in the lineup (look at last week). Going forward, I’m hoping both of these teams don’t have quarterback issues as they can both be factors come playoff time.

Vengeance vs EZW

Vengeance 38 EZW 14

To wrap up the week, we had 2 1-0 teams facing off. After a phenomenal performance in Week 1, EZW was without their longtime quarterback  Jeremy White. In Week 1, White was able to put up 6 touchdowns with 0 interceptions. Missing that kind of production is huge. Stepping in was Charles-Olivier Lavigne, an elite athlete who can do it all. Lavigne’s last season at quarterback was in Winter 2022. Not playing the position consistently isn’t conducive to success at the highest level of FPF. I do think Lavigne can be a great quarterback if that’s what he funnels his energy into, having seen it first-hand just a few seasons ago.

For Vengeance, I could highlight yet another 5 touchdown 0 interception performance from Kevin Wyeth. However, if you have followed FPF at all since 2009, you’re already very familiar with the “goat”. This week’s shoutout will go to Sanders Armand;, having played since 2016, he’s obviously no stranger either. Over the course of recent seasons, Armand has quickly become the “PD King”. His ability to be in the right position at the right time combined with his height has made him a terrifying defender in FPF. This week Armand had 1 interception and 1 PD. On the other side of the ball he was able to come down with 7 receptions for 3 touchdowns.
