The Writers of FPF: Vince Nardone (Division 1&2)

The Writers of FPF: Vince Nardone (Division 1/ 2)

I first became aware of Vince Nardone as a member of the Incredibles. I remarked that he looked like the Incredibles kid when he grew into adulthood.  Vince is a remarkable player on both sides of the ball as well as a fierce competitor.  He has always been a little different are far as us media guys are concerned.  Vince understands the game and he is the most straight forward guy you’ve ever met. Many of us criticize teams in a compliment sandwich (They’re talented, but they allow too many points, I hope their offence can carry them).  On the other hand Vince is the knife that cuts through that sandwich.  His words may sting at times but it always comes from a place of mutual respect as his regard for the game is second to none.  Here’s a bunch of silly questions that I made him answer:

Q&A

Q-Tell us about Vince Nardone. Talk about your playing career and your career thus far covering the league?

A-My playing career has been nothing but pure enjoyment. I’m probably one of the guys who are most thankful for the outlet Flag Plus has created for football players. Unfortunately, football is an unforgiving sport, it eats up athletes and spits them right out. Fortunately, now we can land comfortably in what has become an extraordinary and highly competitive league, which I think is what we all need to unleash the beast once a week. Working for the league for the past two years has been a direct derivative to my playing career. I have not yet found myself unwilling to type up my article or prep for a podcast and that speaks for itself. As long as the public can accept the harsh reality that is THE TRUTH, I will continue writing for this league.

Q-What makes you uniquely qualified to dispense “Truth”

A-I swore an oath at birth that I would always speak my untainted thoughts:

Tell the truth and nothing but the truth ; )

Honestly, I just call it how I see it. I’ve been around football for long enough to call a bluff on the field and at the same time I have no problem giving credit where credit is due.

Q- You’ve been known to call-out players and teams in the past. Call-out a few teams from Div 3 that should have jumped into Div 2. Call out some Div 2 teams that could have challenged themselves in Div 1

A-I can’t call out any teams from either divisions. Here’s why: if the team fits under the cap why should they be called out to play in a higher division? The league adapted the player rating system for this reason alone, to force teams/players up the echelon of the league. If someone feels that a team doesn’t belong in a given division, the blame goes not to the team, but the system itself. I, for one, believe the system has done wonders for the league. The level of competition up and down the division is unprecedented. To call out any team now would be hypocritical to say the least.

Q-What’s a Vince Nardone cheat meal? Rumors have it that it’s basically the same but you just add more chicken to your salad.

A-I’m not going to lie, I love me a good salad. A typical cheat meal for me would be as follows: A bag a Jalapeño Miss Vickies, followed by lots of sushi with loads of tempura, topped by a filet mignon (rare) with lots of fries dipped in a spicy mayo! Oh and lets not forget the Pillsbury cookies. Wouldn’t hurt if this was served on a Sunday while watching football!

Q-What do you think of the cap in Division 1 and Division A?

A- It doesn’t look like it’s made a difference. Now, think what you may, but is it a coincidence that the one team you perhaps were trying to break up happens to fit below cap on defense and offence by .5 🙂 So, ultimately I think its useless. I don’t see any ratings going any higher than the current ratings players have earned. I’m only speaking about the highest rated players in Division 1, most of which find themselves on Montreal’s Finest. The foundation has been laid; there will always be a comparable from this point forward. Example, Mike Harrington has a 91.4 offensive rating, this man dominates the best DB’s in Division 1. He single handedly won a Division 1 championship. Do you see the can of worms waiting to be opened? If anything, I think the cap might make people fight their given rating more then ever.

Q-Would you watch a show whereby we opened an arena and had side walk snow removal vehicles face off against each other. What would the tagline be?

A- Doubtful, I’m not one to watch weird things on TV. I’m more of a PVR kind of guy, and you won’t find that show anywhere on my PVR. If you asked me to put any thought into naming this show…. “White Waste”

Q-Who will win each of the divisions that you are covering?

A- Division 1 bold Prediction: DK! I think they bring forth a really interesting mix of players which could challenge both Montreal’s Finest and the defending champs from this summer, D-Boys. In Division 2, I really like Terror Squad. They had some rough times in Division 1 but I believe they grew stronger and will unleash the anger again in Division 2.

Wrap-up

There you have it folks, Vince and I have clearly entered a Dorian Gray type relationship where apparently he gets to eat at a very expensive buffet and not have any of the digestive issues.  You can contact Vince by emailing him at [email protected]. Vince is available on Facebook but not on twitter as he is too ornery for that medium.
