The War Room (D3) – Week 4
Bye week has come and gone, week 4 is now in the books as well and we are beginning to see trends emerge in the Division three ranks. It sure has been an action packed first half of the season and I can only hope the close games continue to be played. I hope you are all enjoying the WEPL and articles as it gives us here at FlagPlus great pleasure in bringing them to you.
Now for the coverage of last week’s games:
Rage vs DIP: During preseason, the Rage was all the “rage” (ok bad pun). But due to injury and potential inexperience they haven’t lived up to expectation. Well, they pulled off their first win against a talented but emotional group in DIP. Streaky is often used to describe the talents of Dip who has shown us flashes of brilliance in the past only to lay an egg the next week. The game showcased the talents of two qbs, P. Savard and Brosseau who both had 4 tds passing. The game was all DIP in the first half and perhaps complacency creeped in as Rage stormed back in the second half to pull off the close 2 point victory. I look for K. Binette to step up for the Rage and solidify that decent defense. As for DIP, I hope that they take this game as a learning experience and not to ever take a team lightly when leading at half. DIP does have some emerging talent in Chelhot and Hebert. Look for them to exploit both players in the future.
Falcons vs Wildcats: This game had many players who have previously played in division two and I expected a very talented game of football. Well, one side didn’t disappoint as the perennial favourite Falcons showed the Wildcats what they were made of. Falcons came out firing and built a nice little lead which was insurmountable for the poor wildcats, who held their own tying the second half box score. S. Richard needs to work on his passing (only completing 9 passes) if he wants to be crowned champ this season, but his feet and rushing prove to be a useful weapon for now. As for Wildcats, Chadi is a high percentage passer, but needs to open up his offense and get K. Regimbald and Morin the ball downfield more in order to win games.
AMB Eagles vs SWAT: This game was a statement game for the AMB Eagles, who until now were pretty much under the radar. Well putting a dent in the scoreboard, on a good swat team, sure changed that thought process. Beladjat took the game into his own hands, rushing for 65 yards and a score and passing for two more. Gino Difazio didn’t look comfortable in the offense as he struggled to hook up with S. Haney (who was held to one catch for 8 yards). Not many stars emerge from the AMB eagles but they do play well as a unit and this team unity will translate into wins down the road. As for Swat, anytime your leading receiver gets shut down you will struggle, time for others to step up.
Power Rankings:
1. Falcons. Good win against the wildcats, you guys make it look easy, lets hope someone poses a challenge for you guys sooner or later. Maybe the Ballerz? I know I know, I laughed too…
2. Ruff Ryders: Not the best game for you guys but still pretty decent margin of victory. Lapierre is developing into a “wind up and chuck” QB however.
3. D3 Hybrids: Junior Pilon has quietly amassed some nice stats, a potential d2 player in the making, somewhat of a inter division Hybrid one would say.
4.G-Men: Kamel needs to do more than throw 3 picks if he plans on repeating as champs. Nevertheless, they won against a feisty Bandits crew, up next Rage…
5.Souljahs: Good defense, allowing opposing Qb only 37 yards (which is pathetic on the Choppers side). These men might have more fight in them than we once thought. Dorzile needs to light up that offense again though.
6. GPK: You guys smoked the divisions doormat in the Spartiates. Don’t get too cocky, Falcons could do that to you guys too if you’re not too careful.
7. Titans: Big win against the Alliance, but let’s face it the Alliance isn’t that strong. So you make the list this week, what next week holds is your decision (and mine since its my list and all)
8. D-Boys: Lost to Hybrids which isn’t bad but pick a QB already. Two Qb’s rarely
works unless you play for Urban Meyer.
9. Walk Ons: Lost to Andre John and his Ballerz (and I say that symbolically), enough said.
10. AMB Eagles: Beat Swat, which is hopefully a big momentum builder in getting these guys noticed. Their real showdown will be against Ruff Ryders though.
Castleton’s Random Thoughts of the week:
1. Myles Gibbon: One of Flagplus’ own has managed to reach the pinnacle of his sport and commit to South Alabama on a full ride Scholarship. For those of you who don’t know who Myles is check out his Vanier highlight reel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBbdIi8lyPE
Congrats Again Myles and his proud Father
2. Low Percentage Pass: I have no idea why so many quarterbacks in the lower division are attempting passes they clearly are not capable of throwing. It takes A LOT for a QB to hit a 15 yard out and deep corner post routes. Try hitting a bunch of three yard hooks FIRST. The Silver Fox may need to give lessons.
3. Hurricanes vs Demons: Both teams have an absurd amount of talent and are lead by their famous quarterbacks, personally I believe this is the best newfound rivalry in Flag football. Montreal’s Finest might argue but it just isn’t as exciting watching Wyeth against Nincheri as it Pollice vs Nincheri.
4. AMB Eagles: Got an email from one of their players asking for some media love after their decent showings, I told them to win against SWAT and I would take them seriously. Well gentleman, your team is for real and it will be interesting to see who wins your division.
5. Monarchs: Ok, it’s hard to punch a man when he is down, but Monarchs are in serious danger of missing the playoffs if they continue to play like they did against the Taylor Squad. I don’t know what memo they need, or if the TPS report weren’t put on the cover page but CHANGE UP your defence already. Oh and Mitch, pick those balls off.
6. CLR Forces: Nice to see so much piss and vinegar out of you guys last week, I thought for sure we were in for another dismal season of what could have been. Guillaume Ward has some of the top 5 hands in the whole league.
7. Chief Shefteshy: 8 TDS? What the hell is that? Madden on easy? Geez dude, I know your getting used to the QB position but averaging 20 yards a pass on a 50 yard field, is getting it done. Pacmen, you disgust me!
8. Rage: Finally, we can stop seeing Rob O’Grady posting irrelevant music videos on our beloved flag wall and have him chirp about his team and their progress.
9. Daron B: Get well soon man, the WEPL just wasn’t the same without you.
10. Valentine’s Day: For those of us who do have a girl, imagine our luck in telling them to delay your date cuz you have an 10 oclock game? Well, if football doesn’t make you tough, Rob’s excellent scheduling just might.
This tune is for you:
Space Between by Dave Matthews: dedicated to Notre Dame receivers who had A LOT of space between them and their dismal Pacmen coverages.
Many Men by 50 Cent, dedicated to the many men who tried to tackle Nathan and Garrett Taylor as they juked and jived all over the Monarchs and their Defense.
Wish you were here by Pink Floyd dedicated to JP Mancini who was at home with Strep throat on Saturday, overheard Ben Joseph humming this song with a picture of you in his socks.
Put me in Coach by CCR: dedicated to Andre John, who was definitely ready to play in Division 3 after shutting down the deep end of the field on Saturday night. Good find Rehan.
Circus by Britney Spears: dedicated to any teams that play the Thundering Herd. Chirping, fighting in their own huddle, it’s unfortunate they can’t get it together as they have all the talent to be a top tier team.
Quote of the week:
Welcome D1 players, I AM HOST MOE KHAN (insert evil muhahahahahah laugh)!
