The Underdogs Pt.3

Peeze’s Playbook

Quarter Finals

By Paolo Della Rocca

This is the last in a series of three articles.  The rest of the articles from here on out will contain more prose and more in depth analysis.  For now, you get one more list of notes on how the underdogs can beat the favorites.

Underdogs and their keys to success

So the analysis in this article takes the perspective of the underdog in their matchups.  We look at what at what it will take to upset the favorites in each matchup.  Don’t worry, we talked about every team as the inverse to these matchup keys is also true.  Have a look and see how I think the first round will shake out.

Sick Bick vs. Broke Boys (previous result Sick_Bick 39- Broke boys 20)

  • This game should be fairly close. I think that the Broke boys should play a lot of cover three and dare Mitch Fergenbaum to throw the ball deep against the big bodied defenders on Broke Boys. Evan Young and Thomas O’Neill have been great defenders all season.  Matthew Campbell also had an interception in the first round of games.  They need to make life difficult for Sick Bick.
  • Cameron Wilson needs to protect the ball. When he’s at his best, he always seems to be on a roll.  When he’s at his worst the Broke Boys QB is giving his opposition to many chances.
  • Benji Zeigler cannot beat the Broke Boys on jump balls. This will be easier said than done of course. However, they do possess the size to box him out in key situations.

Prediction: Broke Boys 27- Sick Bick 14

Replacments vs. Quackers (previous result Quackers 21-Replacements 12)

  • Quackers are technically the underdog but I do consider them to be a vastl superior team. However, their week 11 matchup was close and Frank Teoli-Colatrella had a great game in his first playoff game this offseason. The quackers key to success is forcing him to make mistakes.
  • Quackers have a huge size advantage in this one. Quarterback Frankie Scalzo will need to use these matchups to his advantage throughout this game.
  • Karim Sy-Morisette, Sebastiano Scalzo and Renaud St-Laurent had interceptions in the last game. There were 4 between them and if they can produce more opportunities for their offense by dismantling yet another offensive gamelan this game should get out of control.

Prediction: Quackers 30-Replacments 18

Green Monster vs. Ball So Hard U (previous result Green Monster 19-Ball So Hard U 13)

  • Last time they Played Joe “Buff” Buffone was only able to put up two touchdowns against this stifling defense. However, this time around he will need to be the leader of this strong and capable offense as he has been all season. Joe Morgese was almost completely left off that stat sheet last time around.  That can’t happen again.
  • BSHU cannot make mistakes on offense. They cannot drop balls, they cannot turn the ball over and, Patrick Jazon and Alexandre Cote need to be neutralized as rushers. The passing attack needs to be quick and efficient.
  • Darnell Kevis Riler is Green Monster’s top threat. Ball so Hard need to take it away and force Jason De Souza to use his second and third options more frequently.

Prediciton: Ball So hard U 25-Green Monster 20

Air force 1 vs. Sunday Touch Boys (Air Force 1 38-Sunday touch Boys 27)

  • Sunday Touch Boys did a great job limiting Benjamin McMahon’s running in the previous playoff matchup. They face a different sort of beast in Simon Blais.  Mark Bellini will have to swap his track shoes for his thinking cap as taking away passing lanes will be the priority.
  • I like Damien Jean Jaques in this matchup. I think he will be the difference maker for the Touch Boys this Monday.
  • Perhaps moving the game to Sunday would have been more appropriate. As such, Sunday’s disciples will need to do their work on a laymen’s day.
