The Truth: The Real Season Approaches

No if’s and but’s about it… you made your bed, now you have to sleep in it. At the end of the day, where you’re seeded doesn’t really matter. As long as you’ve given yourself a chance to line up and play in week eleven (or twelve), mission number one of “making the playoffs” has been accomplished. I understand that most of you have a different way of seeing it. Ultimately, if you think being ranked higher and getting an easier route to the finals is better, I don’t disagree. I do think it can be beneficial. I think the path you pave to get to the end will play a role in terms of your teams’ confidence and togetherness. I also think that if you can’t beat the top seed, then you don’t belong in the finals. But if you can, and do, you have the opportunity to cut the dragon’s head off. So what’s better? An easier road to the championship, or an easier championship? All in all these are just scenarios. The only constant we control in all of this is our own performance. Let the play do the talking, and let’s get the real show on the road!

Quick thoughts:

– There were three teams playing for their lives and only one team prevailed. Chernobyl Circus did just enough to get into the playoffs and I believe they might have set the table for a championship run.

– Serge Pilon’s 13 tackles against the Rainmakers might be a league record.

– FML may be out but they’re currently shaking up the division one standings. Back to back wins against higher seeds has division one all shook up.

– Will the leg injury Marco Masciotra suffered in a D3 game on Wednesday night cause enough turbulence in D-Boys’ affairs to have them fall short in the playoffs?

– Last week of Fantasy for Nate and I; unless I can squeeze a win this week in division one and force a tie-break.

– I’d like to lobby on behalf of Kevin Wyeth’s all-time leading statistics as a QB in division 1. I personally think the QB of the year award should be named the“Kevin Wyeth Award”. This may mean nothing to anyone now, but think down the road when the players on the field have no clue who Kevin is.

– I got a sneak peak at the record books and I’m looking forward to seeing the reactions when it comes out. There are a lot of names up there that you wouldn’t imagine in a thousand year seeing in the record books.

– Finally, the playoffs are here for division two. That said, a couple teams in division one are also in somewhat of a playoff game, seeing as they have to win to make the playoffs.

– D-Boys smashed Got-Skills in order to continue their winning streak. D-Boys have won seven straight and look to wrap up their season with an eighth consecutive triumph, against the Loonatics.

– CBL is in a serious pickle. They thought all those ties would be beneficial at this point in the season. Pray to the “Finest Gods” that the Rainmakers don’t beat Montreal’s Finest.

Quick Re-cap:

Montreal’s Finest 39 – CBL 36

Very unfortunate for Carmine Pollice, who put his team in a great position to win this game, but a missed tackle on his end may have been their downfall. This game came down to a missed tackle that Guillaume Ward turned up the sideline all the way to the one-yard line. With one play left in the game, Garrett Taylor from his backside pulled in the game winner. This was a huge loss for CBL, who now have to win their last game and need Rainmakers to lose. Finest’s defense finally showed up in this game with two interceptions and 3 sacks as the key for their success.

Rainmakers 32- DK 48

I’ve given DK’s defense a lot of credit all year long and they proved why the deserve it once again this weekend. Serge Pilon had 13 tackles in this game. We all know those tackles are not from getting picked on! Patrick Chenard had two interceptions, one of which he brought back for six points. Impressive performance by DK to clinch a playoff spot and gain some confidence. Rainmakers may look down and out with a tough week ten match-up against Montreal’s Finest but don’t count them out just yet. Even if they lose, if CBL loses their game, Rainmakers will go into the playoffs as the sixth seed.

DIV2 Playoff match-ups:

Chernobyl Circus VS Wolverines

This is not a favourable matchup at all for the Wolverines, who already lost to Chernobyl once this year by a score of 35-14 in week eight. I truly believe Chernobyl Circus has found their rhythm and are going to create chaos in the playoffs. A lot of pressure should now be taken off quarterback Patrick Chenard’s shoulders. Chenard led his team with a stellar play when their season was on the line. Wolverines have done nothing right since week five of the regular season. They’ve lost five straight and are averaging less than 18 points per game when Tony Tabet is throwing. Look for Chernobyl to shut down Wolverines’ offense and Chenard to continue his great quarterbacking.

O.N.S. VS Monstars

This game is like an old Western movie, where you have two guys in a showdown. Except, in this movie instead of revolvers, Kevin Wyeth and Rod Mashtoub will be using bazookas. This game will come down to a single turn over. We might see this game total above one hundred points. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if this game ended up going into overtime, either. Needless to say, both defenses can stay home! Lets just enjoy the showdown.

Clockwork VS CLR

After a strong start to the season, CLR has had a really hard time coping with the injury to Guillaume Ward. Fast forward a few weeks and Guillaume seems to be back to his old self. Now, we have an injury on the other side of the ball: Marco Masciotra looked to have injured his right leg really bad in a Division 3 game. Will this affect his throwing? I can’t say for sure, what we can easily deduct from it all is his ability to cover on defense. CLR with a healthy Guillaume Ward is a scary team. Clockwork without Marco on defense is an average defense. Frederic Dupuis might have a field day if Marco can’t line up. The other issue on hand is CLR’s inability to play defense. 313 points against makes them the third worst defense in the playoffs behind #NR and the Wolverines. The combination of Matt Kirouac, Antonio Lanni and Rich Humes could be too much for CLR to handle.

Legends VS #NR

These two teams played each other week one in a game #NR won 32-27. Corey Pecker was coming off a serious non-football related injury and wasn’t quite 100%. Since then, Corey has found his groove and also added a potent receiver and familiar face in Ryan Lellinowski. In six games played, Lel has tallied 27 catches for 381 yards and 11 touchdowns. Jeremy Cola is going to be in James Floreani’s kitchen all night long. Both teams have shown us signs of brilliance; they’ve also both shown us that they can easily stir the boat into as iceberg. This game will come down to which quarterback can make the most of their situations. Look for Phil Cutler to have a big game snapping for an injured Jeff Rosenblatt.

Vinni’s Stud squad:

QB: Kevin Wyeth (MTL) 25/29 for 262 yards and 6 TDs. I don’t feel like going back and checking all my articles but I’m pretty sure Kevin finds himself on this list 85% of the time. Hence, me lobbying for the award name change.

QB: Frank Lebeau (GLD) 22/30 for 276 yards and 7 TDs. Great way to wrap up the season! Watched this one live and he could have easily had even one more TD.

WR: Guillaume Ward (MTL) 8 Receptions for 130 yards and 2 TDs. Welcome back my friend! Ward is, and will, continue to be a freak!

WR: Alex Nadeau-Piuze (GLD) 6 Receptions for 126 yards and 2TDs. Love watching Nadeau dominate as a receiver.

DB: Patrick Chenard (DK) 5 Tackles 2 Interceptions 1 TD. Chenard is probably the sole player to be inducted into the HOF basically as a shut down corner. Needless to say, I’m not surprised he’s still dominating top divisions.

I had no choice but to win last week. Even with two players absent from their respective games, I luckily squeeze by Nathan’s team. I still have one more chance to at least tie things up and send us to over time. The score after 9 weeks is 5-4 for Nate.

My picks and spread:

Las week in division one I went ¾ again, and 4/8 in division two which killed my dreams of finishing above 60%. That brings me to a total of 56/104 after 10. We only have four games this week. The best I could finish if I get 4/4 would be 56%… pretty sad.
