The Truth: DK and D-Boys set to renew acquaintances
Week one often feels like a warm up for the weeks to come. A lot of teams neglect the importance of chemistry and therefore choose to not practice during the off-season. Don’t get me wrong, we all know there are teams who need no practice, but I speak on behalf of the majority. It’s foolish to undermine the importance of getting on a roll quickly and early in the season. Countless reps you could have ran in the off-season to get to know your new receivers. Instead, now you swear while pointing blame around the field and head the opposite direction from fun and wins. Good news though: you still have 9 more weeks to recover, YAY! I doubt you will all recover. One thing is for sure, the team who deserves to win will win.
Quick thoughts
– I dare Kevin Wyeth to not run triple slants in week 2!
– Guillaume Ward is an absolute beast receiver for CLR Forces. I have never seen a player make as many highlight catches in one game.
– When I did my preseason rankings I knew I’d catch a lot of heat. I also knew it would motivate some guys to go extra hard week one. I think it worked.
– Terror Squad back to the division they belong in. So far, so good!
– Flag Moi L’sac does not meet the weight requirements in Division 1…way too much meat on that defense!
– Montreal’s Finest gave DK numerous chances to steal the win and still ended up winning by more than a score. MF is and will always be top tier.
– Damps 25/8 needs to find a QB ASAP. Sorry boys, Lots of greaqt athletes on the roster, but it’s going to be a long season if you don’t address your QB issue.
– I hate seeing guys get hurt in a flag game… Omar Jackson, I wish you a speedy recovery. The loss will be costly for Clockwork.
– Chernobyl has a wicked defense in division 2, I wouldn’t want to throw against these guys, let me tell you.
– The first game is rough for everyone including players and referees. I know newer refs need to gain some experience, but’s it’s always tough to see less experienced zebras in the top two divisions. I know it’s politically incorrect for me to say things against the refs, but like Theo Ojeaha said to me Monday night “it’s the truth though”, and I deliver the truth.
Re-cap:
-The game between Loonatics and Got Skills was s soar sight for the eyes. There is little, if any, chemistry between Jonathan Williams and his receivers. Early in the game Loonatics had a chance to go up by two scores, but Tony Khoury was unable to come down in bounds with the TD grab. Loonatics’ defense looked a little too relaxed with an 8-0 lead when the second half started, Centomo capitalized. Twenty second half points for Got Skills, and Williams’ inability to complete simple routes in the second half was the story. Will Paul Lapierre take over in week 2?
–Montreal’s Finest capitalized when Matt Bond drops a sure pick six before the half. Even after dropping a 40 bomb, Mike Harrington finished with 7 receptions, 64 yards and 2 TDs. The team who I picked to finish first did not impress in week one. Kishon Thompson put the defense on his back as usual- although one of his two picks came when Rochdi was forced to score quickly or walk away with his tail between the legs. It doesn’t get easier for DK who faces the defending champs next week.
-Two ill-advised interceptions by Alex Nadeau Piuze proved extremely costly for Flag Moi L’Sac. One in particular where I thought surely they would score from 5 yards out and Piuze through a pick to Jordan McLaren. For the D-Boys, it was another classic tail of Matt Kirouac. Kirouac got beat all game to the point where he was getting frustrated by Piuze’s belt tying tactics. But when it matters most, Kirouac always pulls through with a huge sack! Second last play of the game, Matt found Piuzes’ flags for a long sack, one FML would not recover from.
– CLR Forces look really good! I was impressed with their ability to drive the field at will. Wild Boys tried to keep up but just could match punch for punch. Fred Dupuis connected numerous times with Guillaume Ward who looked like a man possessed.
– O.N.S. wins against a strong Clockwork who got weaker with the loss of Omar Jackson due to injury; a loss the team was never able to rally from. Any team who has Kevin Wyeth at the helm is bound for glory, even if I choose to pick against them!
-Jordan McLaren really took the team name (Untouchables) to heart: 8 receptions for 123 yards and 4 TDs plus a pick on defense. Don’t touch the man, you’ll burn yourself. I was surprised to see the Wolverines keep up with a really strong team, something I’m sure Tony Tabet will build off of.
Vinni’s Stud squad:
QB: Kevin Wyeth (MF) 24/37 for 249 yards and 6TDs. Are you surprised to see this name here? Just another day at the office for Kev.
QB: Frederic Dupuis (CLR) 18/25 for 228 and 6 TDs. Fred almost went a full half without an incompletion. Solid first game!
WR: Vinny Gualano (CBL) 10 receptions for 101 yards and 3TDs. A possessed man on a mission.
WR: Jordan McLaren (UNT) 8 receptions for 123 yards and 4TDs. Are you kidding?
DB:David Centomo (GS) 2 interceptions and 5 tackles. David was never able to get his offensive game going so he made his presence felt on defense.
DB: N/A
R: N/A
FPF Daily Fantasy: This segment will be new this year. There are other writers doing this as well but I’m going to be doing it a bit differently. Basically unlike FanDuel or Draft Kings, there will be no salary cap, for obvious reasons. I will choose a team and Montreal’s Finest’s own Nathan Taylor will pick the other. Teams will include 1 quarterback, 3 receivers, 1 snapper and a team defense. To make this interesting, we will peg Division 1 against Division 2. “Nate the Great” will choose from Division 1 and I will pick from Division 2. At the end of the season, we will see who comes out on top.
Points will be awarded as follows…
QB’s:
- 1 point per 10 yards passing
- 3 points per passing TD
- 1 point per 5 yards rushing
- 5 points per rushing TD
- -2 points per interception
- -1 point per sack
WR’s:
- 1 point per 5 yards
- 5 points per TD
Defense:
- 1 point per 3 tackles
- 1 point per 2 PD’s
- 2 points per sack
- 3 points per INT
- 5 points per pick-six
- 10 points for allowing 10 points or less
- 8 points for allowing 11-20 points
- 6 points for allowing 21-30 points
- 4 points for allowing 31-40 points
- 2 points for allowing 41-50 points
- 1 point for allowing 51 + points

Game of the Week:
DK VS D-Boys
The defending champions line up against a DK squad looking to get back to their winning ways. The hate between these two teams is a well-known fact to most. I remember last year when certain players from the two teams had to have a pre-game meeting with the Commish himself; the purpose was to get the message across that any extra-curricular activity would not be tolderated. There are a handful of players with very short fuses on both teams, which will make for another interesting match-up! Will Rochdi Benabdelkader stay poised long enough to force Marco Masciotra’s hand? Will D-Boys continue their winning streak and run over DK like the Finest did last week?
Key match ups:
1- Matt Kirouac VS Adi Sharma over the middle.
2- Marco Masciotra VS Matt Bond, Nic Arsenault Hum and Pat Chenard
3- The Pilon twins working the inside VS the Lanni Bros (Antoinio and Giovanni)
4- Rochdi Benabdelkader VS Himself
DK once robbed D-Boys of a Division 2 championship; I don’t think D-Boys ever got over that. I think D-Boys are going to bring their A-game and some serious speed to this date. I said DK was going to finish 8-2 on the season and I think this will be their second loss.
D-Boys 38 – DK 32
That’s it for me this week. Tune in tonight for the weekly podcast LIVE from Sportira Cage between 7:30 and 8:00 pm. Tonight, I’ll play host in the absence of Moe Khan and will have the one and only Matt Kirouac dish out some truth of his own. Don’t miss out on Kirouac telling us who from D-Boys he would 1- Send to work the mines 2- Have as his house maid 3- Crown king of the Castle.
