The Truth: Crunch Time!
It’s back to business as usual for everyone as we head into the tail end of the regular season. No more training wheels, it’s time to kick it into over drive. If you’re on a team who unfortunately has found themselves in a deep hole, never give up hope, we’ve seen strange things happen in the past. I currently count no one out of the race. Only question is: how badly do you want it? I’ve been seeing more and more emotions on the field lately. It’s alright to care, but no one needs to push things overboard. I stress this every year : ultimately at the end of the day, we all have to wake up tomorrow and do something much more important then Flag Football. Let’s play hard but clean… fast but smart… explosive but efficient… but most importantly, let’s have some fun!
Quick thoughts
– What’s up with Leo Lanni’s knee touching his brothers’ in D-Boys’ picture? No one prepped him for game day picture? Looks like he needs a shoulder to cry on while everyone else is ready for war. I’m just kidding Leo, but next time pretend it’s not your first.
– The Marco Masciotra/Theo Ojeaha duo is currently my favourite pair to watch. Must be a treat to have such a freak receiver to throw to.
– If you listened to the podcast: do you think like me, or Moe Khan about the HOF? Let me know in a comment under my posting in the Facebook group.
– Is it just me or is the weather in Montreal out of control? I guess you could compare the inconsistency of the weather to Montreal’s Finest play this year.
– Damps 25/8 throw in the towel and Flag Moi L’sac follow their footsteps.
– O.N.S. is absolutely nothing without Kevin Wyeth and they proved that last week against the Gladiateurs.
– With four weeks left to play, it’s time to kick it into over drive.
– Finest almost let another one slip. Luckily for them, DK shot themselves in the foot and Mike Harrington went full fledge beast mode.
– Divisional games are going to be crucial in division two for the final rankings. Divisional record is the tiebreaker after the head to head result if two teams find themselves in a tie. If three teams are tied it goes as follows: Wins, Divisional record and then points against.
– Let me remind you what my thinking is behind your team’s global grade: how you’re doing versus my expectations of you. As for your offensive and defensive grade, I’m considering stats, and whom you got those stats against.
Division 2 Report Card:
Conference A:
Untouchables 1st 4-2
5th place with 164 PA: B+
6th place with 201 PF: B
Global grade: B+
Overall: B+
Justin Lavallee leads a perfectly built team for division two. I think these guys are most definitely contenders.
Wolverines 2nd 4-2
7th place with 177 PA: B
5th place with 209 PF: B+
Global grade: A
Overall: B+
It’s not like they’ve changed anything from past seasons. The team looks to be on the same page and everyone is dancing to the same beat.
Terror Squad 3rd 3-2-1
6th place with 176 PA: B
9th place with 181 PF: B-
Global grade: C-
Overall: B-
I was expecting more from this team. I believe they’re going to rise to the occasion and have a better second half of the season.
#NR 4th 3-3
9th place with 185 PA: B-
13th place with 169 PF: C
Global grade: B+
Overall: B-
Unfortunately injuries have affected this team in a negative way this year. I think the return of James Floreani at QB will allow this team to find further success.
Legends 5th 3-3
4th place with 163 PA: B+
11th place with 171 PF: C+
Global grade: B
Overall: B-
This team made it to the finals last year. I think the roster changes that were made improved this team. I have no doubt they’ll shock a couple teams going forward.
Chernobyl Circus 6th 2-3-1
10th place with 187 PA: B-
8th place with 181 PF: B-
Global Grade: C-
Overall: C+
I really expect a lot more from this team. There is no way this defense should be 10th in this division. If Patrick Chenard can’t be perfect then you need your defense to help him out.
Raiders 7th 2-4
11th place with 198 PA: C+
14th place with 158 PF: C-
Global grade: C
Overall: C
Rick Nincheri is doing everything he can to help this team find their way. Is it going to be enough? I don’t think so. I believe this might be a classic case of too little too late.
Solide 8th 2-4
3rd place with 155 PA: A
15th place with 132 PF: D
Global Grade: C-
Overall grade: C+
The game Solide lost by forfeit really affected everything considered here. They should really be 3-3 and have 40 more PF. All that being said, it’s no one else’s fault but yours for the forfeit. It’s not too late to make a push, but it will definitely not be easy.
Conference B:
Served with Ice 1st 4-2
1st place with 129 PA: A+
11th place with 171 PF: C+
Global Grade: A
Overall grade: A-
Outstanding defensive play will always give you a chance to win. Having an unreliable QB is never a good thing. You can’t have your best receiver throwing, that’s just not smart.
Clockwork 2nd 4-2
12th place with 204 PA: C-
3rd place with 214 PF: B+
Global grade: B
Overall grade: B-
I expect way more from this defense. Marco Masciotra can’t be perfect every night and he shouldn’t have to be with the defensive guys on this roster. Defense needs to step up.
Gladiateur 3rd 4-2
8th place with 184 PF: B-
2nd place with 233 PF: A
Global grade: A
Overall: A-
I didn’t expect the Gladiateur to be where they are now. Although they have been inconsistent this year, they more often then not find a way to win big games.
Monstars 4th 3-3
14th place with 216 PA: D
1st place with 240 PF: A+
Global grade: A
Overall: B-
It’s been proven in the past by ONS that having the best offense does not matter if you’re defense stinks. Please do me a favour, D-up! I’m impressed to see you guys in 4th but you’ll need to improve if you want to have a chance going forward.
CLR Forces 5th 3-3
12th place with 204 PA: C-
10th place with 176 PF: C+
Global grade: B-
Overall: C
Inconsistent on both sides of the ball so far this season. I’m a fan of this team but they’ve let me down a couple times already. I think they have what it takes to pull through but they’ve managed to place themselves behind the eight ball.
O.N.S. 6th 3-3
15th place with 216 PA: D
4th place with 213 PF: B+
Global grade: C-
Overall: C
This team relies way too much on the best quarterback this league has seen. Year over year nothing has changed for them. An awful defense to back up a great offense is not the recipe for winning in this league.
Wild boys 7th 2-4
13th place with 205 PA: C-
7th place with 189 PF: B
Global grade: C-
Overall: C-
I’m disappointed by the Wild Boys. I didn’t think they would be below average. Mathieu Rene is a great quarter back with tones of experience. I think a tough schedule has affected their confidence but they should be able to get the ball rolling again.
Damps 25/8 8th 1-5
16th place with 237 PA: D-
16th place with 112 PF: D-
Global grade: B
Overall: D
A team loaded with talent but very little flag experience. If they use this time to learn and improve I think this team could be really good in the future. Flag is very different from tackle football and you won’t learn that until you add players with experience.
Re-cap:
Montreal’s Finest 48 – DK 39
-Finest had two weeks to get over their last lost to Got-Skills. It seems like they used those two weeks efficiently; finally they get back to their winning ways. Although this one was harder than the scores show, Finest was able to capitalize on one key play. Late in the first half, DK found themselves with the ball and an opportunity to go up two scores. Unfortunately, Serge Pilon had a ball go through his hands and find its way into Kevin Wyeth’s arms. Kevin may be known as a dominant QB but do not doubt his ability to play some defense. On the ensuing drive, Finest scored and never looked back. Mike Harrington led all receivers with 8 receptions, 118 yards and 3 touchdowns. Montreal’s Finest is 2-1 when Harrington shows up.
Rainmakers 45- CBL 44
-I don’t know if CBL is purposely trying to get a million ties this year, but they came extremely close to tallying their third tie in five games. Rainmakers were not about to let that happen. CBL is now 2-1-2, but when you look at it in terms of points, they’re basically 3-1. Ryan Kastner needs to be perfect for the rainmakers to win, and he was. Twenty-one completions in twenty-five attempts for 224 yards and 7 touchdowns were Kastners’ stats. And that’s what they needed to hand CBL their first L of the season. After being inducted into the hall of fame, Micheal Chitayat decided to show everyone why that was the case. Chitayat caught 3 touchdowns and added 5 tackles and an interception on defense. The Rainmakers have their works cut out for them with a rough schedule to end the regular season; and CBL is in the same boat.
Division 2 Power Rankings:
1st Served With Ice 4-2
2nd Clock Work 4-2
3rd Wolverines 4-2
4th Untouchables 4-2
5th Gladiateur 4-2
6th Terror Squad 3-2-1
7th CLR Forces 3-3
8th Legends 3-3

Vinni’s Stud squad:
QB: Nicola Centomo (GSL) 18/22 for 264 yards and 7 TDs plus 10 rushing yards and a rushing TD. Very impressive performance by Centomo. Stud Status activated.
QB: Marco Masciotra (CLK) 16/25 for 251 yards and 6 TDs. Marco is no stranger to the stud squad.
WR: Theo Ojeaha (DBS) 7 Receptions for 116 yards and 4 TDs. I have no doubt Theo is going to be receiver of the year. He’s been on Stud Status all year.
WR: Antonio Lanni (CLK) 7 Receptions for 109 yards and 3 TDs. Antonio is known for his stellar defensive play and now you know him as an all around stud.
DB: Simon Rheaum (GLD) 4TKLs and 2 INT. Although the opposing QB looked quite uncomfortable throwing the ball, Rheaum deserves the acknowledgment.
R: Mike Carfagnini (WLV) 3 sacks and 1 PD… For his first game rushing in his first year playing in FPF, Carfagnini found his way to my stud list. Well done!

That is the closest outcome this year! I win by .3 and now I stand at 2-3. Again, I urge you guys try and notify us if you’re not going to make your game!
My picks and spread:
8/14 last week, which is a lot better than the past couple of weeks for me. It’s been nothing short of impossible to pick games this year and my record shows it…This gives me a total of 34/70 after six weeks.
Division One:
Loonatics VS CBL
Montreal’s Finest VS Flag Moi L’sac
Rainmakers VS Got-Skills
D-Boys VS DK
Division Two:
Legends VS Monstars
#NR VS Served With Ice
Untouchables VS CLockwork
Chernobyl Circus VS Gladiateurs
Wolverines VS Damps 25/8
Terror Squad VS O.N.S.
Raiders VS Wildboys
Solide VS CLR Forces
Game of the week :
Untouchables 4-2 VS Clockwork 4-2
This should be a very interesting game between two of the best teams in division two. Two teams which have had much success in the past look to take the lead in their division and conference standing. Both teams run a high-octane offense. They are both not afraid to swing for the fences over and over again. While I feel this is going to be a high scoring affair, do not under estimate either teams’ play making ability on defense. Clockwork may be the second best defense in the division with 154 PA, but Untouchables are not very far behind with 164 PA. I believe this game will come down to extra points, and therefore believe it will come down to the most accurate QB.
Key match-ups:
Marco Masciotra VS Justin Lavalle
Matt Kirouac & Antonio Lanni VS James Tyrell & Jordan McLaren
Jordan McLaren VS Man defense
This is going to be a preview of this years’ potential finals match-up. I’m truly looking forward to seeing the result of this game. I think it will be a great indicator as to where both teams stand at this point of the season.
I believe it will finish in a tie: 37-37
That’s all for this week. Thanks again for reading and don’t forget to check out the podcast if you haven’t already done so… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klBOSRwmDYQ! Ciao for now.
