The Good, The Bad, and the Super Bowl
Gooood weekend COED 1 and welcome to our week off! It’s a blessing for those of us that are sore and hurting from an intense 5 weeks of FPF football. Relax, stretch, and catch some ZZZ’s, because next week we start it all over again! Next week’s games will also mark the mid season mark for most teams (5 Games), so expect one of those report card things to come out soon.
The Super Bowl is upon us! And as the world rallies behind the Eagles, as they should, we can also take a look at COED 1 and check in on our undefeated and winless teams. The Division is really heating up and the battle for the top is neck and neck. Any mistake could cost a team a lot of momentum in the race. Let’s dive into what I’m seeing in the division and my usual picks.
*Editor’s Note* : COCAINE BEAR, the hollywood-tised, sensationalized, kinda true story is out February 24th. I apparently have a date with Iggy and Peeze, but I recommend anyone who would like to come, shout out! This will most likely be bigger and better than that Avatar movie I haven’t seen yet… But I digress…..
THE UNSTOPPABLE THOUGHTS OF A MAD MAN
- Holy jiminy cricket! Jessica Bositampen is running away with the division with 12 sacks. El-Andry Abbey is Jessica’s closest threat, clocking in at 6 sacks in 2 games. If El-Andry keeps pace, he may be able to catch up to Jessica, but since she is on track for a 20+ sack season…. Will it be enough?
- FAST NOT FURIOUS and NORTHERN BRAVES are the only teams that are still undefeated. You can’t escape my gaze now! We will be staying up to date on how these teams fare until week 10 when they play each other! Can they both keep winning for 3 more weeks?! NORTHERN BRAVES have a slightly harder schedule, as they play 1 additional game, and 2 games in one night next week!
- Despite not being in the #1 QB spot, both Stephen Harripersaud (KISS MY OUTLAWS) and Jonathan Maheu (NORTHERN BRAVES) have 18 TD’s in 3 Games!! Having already played their head to head game in week 1 and NORTHERN BRAVES coming out the victors… will that be the deciding factor in this QB race rivalry? Tam Vilaydeth does not have a game next week, so expect a change up at the #1 QB spot!
- Despite being on a winless team, Sean Kennedy from BALL BUSTERS has an incredible 7 TD’s and 295 Yards as a WR in 4 Games. Although other candidates for top receiver are all sitting at 7 TD’s (Lauriane Beauchamp and Isiah Allard), Sean has had the most targets and most catches. Lauriane Beauchamp might have an edge on the competition however, due to having all of these stats (7 TD’s, 151 Yards) in 3 games.
- Quaysie Gordon-Maule has 3 defensive TD’s already! Paired with 5 INT’s and 3 PD’s he is well on his way for defensive player of the year.
- I love how the #7 team that signifies the middle of the pack sits at a .500 win rate (2-2 Justice League) Losing to GIRL SCOUTS and FAST NOT FURIOUS, while winning over BALL BUSTERS and EZFUN, they have yet to beat a top team. Playing against THE FUNNY CLUB is going to be a big test for them next week.
TEAM REVIEWS
PARTY MIX:
If my quick research is to be trusted, PARTY MIX has been in the league since 2017; which by my count, makes them the oldest team in the Division. I have played against PARTY MIX during the early days of COED and they were a formidable team. Finding true success in 2018, they were able to win the COED 1 Championship! Since then they have been up and down, never quite recreating their magic of a championship again, but never being at the bottom of the Division. Their losses in the playoffs coming mostly from 3rd DOWN FOR WHAT. Now they find themselves in a new position – Winless. With 4 games done and their usual QB – Francois Deslauriers only having played 2 games, it has been a rocky start for PARTY MIX. Their offence has still shown that they can put up points though! With only 1 game below 21 points, pushing up their point average to about 27-30 points a game should help them start taking the lead and closing games; but they will need their defense to step it up a notch if they want to win consistently.
The team defensively does not have any INT’s, which means that the QB is not getting extra chances to score and thus has to score on every possession to keep up with other teams. That’s not to say that PARTY MIX are incapable of making stops. Most members of their team have 1 PD, and with 13 and 12 tackles respectively, Abigaelle Perreault and Marc-Antoine Bigue prove that they are not slackers and will be everywhere on the field.
Luckily it looks like the easier half of their schedule is coming up in the next few weeks. They should be able to get a good number of wins under their belt before going into the playoffs and hopefully take them out of the RED.
Prediction: 3-7
.
LES BLEUS:
LES BLEUS seem to be an all new team by the looks of it! Andrea Heavia makes her FPF debut this year leading this team in Co-Ed 1. With an average of 24 pass attempts per game she has the time to practice and get comfortable in the QB position. Sitting at an average 52.2% pass completion and 100 yards per game, Andrea’s goal for now should be getting that pass rate up since she has already been steadily increasing her TD’s. However, this task is not all on Andrea!. Her receivers will need to bail her out in tough times and key downs if they expect to win games this season. Genevieve St-Jean and Simon Bierdermann have taken charge of the offense with 2 TD’s a piece and over 100 yards receiving. With almost 100% catch rate, Genevieve is my pick for #1 receiver on the team so far! Following in 3rd, is Simon’s brother(? I assume based on last name only?) – Ludovik Bierdermann, who also has 2 TD’s, but whose catch rate is currently under 50%. We all know that completion % are not the “be all, end all” of FPF, but seeing as he is a prime target, he will need to make some big plays in the second half of the season to help Andrea get to that 4th or 5th per game.
LES BLEUS have a rough schedule in front of them, having to face off against the division’s best: NORTHERN BRAVES, POWER RANGERS, FAST NOT FURIOUS. They will need to come prepared to all games if they want a chance at a few wins. However, despite how this season may go for them, I hope they continue working together and keep moving forward in FPF. Even if it means dropping down to Co-Ed 2 or 3, I believe with a bit more chemistry and time, this team and QB can be real threats.
Prediction: 0-10

BALL BUSTERS:
These BALL BUSTERS are new to Co-Ed 1, but their players are not new to FPF. Backtracking through BALL BUSTER history shows me that the original team started in 2013 but morphed over time until 2016 when it had a grouping of Carmine Pollice, Jeff Brown, and Sean Kennedy. Fast forward to 2023, and it seems as though the BALL BUSTERS have come to Co-Ed! Carmine Pollice, Jeff Brown, and Sean Kennedy are back, this time bringing SPITFIRE regular – Adi Sharma with them. They are joined by a crew of women: Anne Pavia, Annie Ainsley-Germain, Audrey Moguel, and Kylie Pollice! Off to a slow start at 0-4, BALL BUSTERS are able to boast the most points scored out of all the winless teams, however, they also have the most points scored against. They consistently score 21 points per game, except against KISS MY OUTLAWS, where they scored 38 points to almost win!
With the talent on this team, I am a bit surprised to find them at the bottom of the division. A lot of these players have experience in higher divisions, and I expected that to carry over into Co-Ed 1. However, it could just be the case of new team jitters and getting the timing down with their female receivers. Carmine Pollice is controlling the air space of Co-Ed 1 with 802 yards. He has thrown about 1 INT per game, but that has not stopped him from also connecting for 15 TD’s! Sean Kennedy is currently his favorite target with 29 targets. However, with 4 players having over 100 yards receiving, it makes their offense hard to cover, and if other teams focus too hard on Kennedy, Carmine will exploit it and make plays elsewhere.
On the defensive side, they will need more than Jeff’s 18 tackles to stop the other offenses. They have a good number of PD’s, but will also need to turn those PD’s into INT’s, to give their team more chances to score and win. Overall, once the receivers hit their stride and start catching balls, watch out, because Balls WILL be Busted!
Prediction: 2-8

GAME OF THE WEEK PREVIEW:
LAST WEEK’S GOTW PREDICTION: Power Rangers (2-1) 28 Vs. 24 Girl Scouts (2-0)
LAST WEEK’S GOTW RESULTS: Power Rangers (2-1) 33 Vs. 17 Girl Scouts (2-0)
* Not as close as I thought, but at least I picked the right team*
EZFun (1-4) Vs Free Smoke (1-0-1):
This is an interesting match up to me because it’s the team with the least amount of games played VS the team with the most amount of games played! FREE SMOKE is technically an undefeated team since their tie with LES PETITS PHOQUES in week 4, while EZFUN is thirsting for a win ever since week 2 against LES BLEUS. On paper, FREE SMOKE should be the better team this game, however, various factors could give EZFUN the edge in this matchup!
- FREE SMOKE did not play in the first 2 weeks of the season. They also did not play a game during week 5, which means they will have had 2 weeks off between games. Not being able to play a steady stream of games may mean they don’t have the intensity or timing that EZFUN does.
- FREE SMOKE is actually playing a doubleheader next week. Their first match is against NORTHERN BRAVES at 6pm and then EZFUN at 7pm. This allows EZFUN to get to the field early and watch their opponents in action and plan accordingly. This also means that FREE SMOKE may be a bit more tired from their earlier game and EZFUN may be able to out pace them in terms of speed.
- 5 sacks in 2 games for Jimmy-Lee Janvier can be rough, so he will need to work on reducing them this game to keep his drives alive.
With all this in mind, this game is a toss up for me! EZFUN is currently sitting with the most points scored against them and seem to have some trouble scoring, which gives FREE SMOKE the leeway to rack up some points. Nicolas Blais (EZFUN) might be the game changer in this game but if Piwi Barthold can get another TD or INT on defense, it may be enough to take control of the game.
Prediction: EZFun 19 – Free Smoke 24
