Teams look to dodge the 0-2 bullet

Welcome to Week 3 Division 6 heads! We’re already 2 weeks in, and business is picking up, as teams look to avoid a harder than you think to comeback from 0-2 start.

After scoring a grand total of zero points in their 46-0 loss to the Goon Squad, first-year team DGC, added FlagPlus Football veterans Joey Taylor and Foti Evangelista to their line-up for their game last Saturday against the Broke Boys. The move almost worked, as DGC almost pulled off the upset, losing 43-30.

Despite the loss, DGC looked promising, especially compared to last week, where they appeared inept on offense. While Taylor and Evangelista put up impressive numbers (they combined for 10 catches, 128 yards, and 2 TDs, the rest of the team’s receivers made plays as well. If the squad can shore up their defense, (89 points in 2 games), and keep both higher division players on the team the rest of the way, they could be a force to be reckoned with.

Another first-year team getting a notch in the win column was the Farmers, who used a strong defensive performance to knock off Cette Equipe La 25-19, last Saturday night in Brossard.

Leading the way for the Farmers’ defense, was Simon Viens, who last year played with Cette Equipe La Quarterback Gabriel Beland-Lapointe, on Les Huards. Viens, picked off his former teammate and ran it to the house for a huge TD.

Farmers’ rookies Marc-Antoine Jette and Sebastien Robidoux, also had a strong games, as the former had 2 INTs, and the latter had 2 sacks.

A veteran team getting their first win of the season was the Smokin Axolotls. Last spring’s Division E championship finalist, were another team who used a great performance on defense to lock down the win, as they beat the Super Troopers 12-8.

The win has to give confidence to a team that after losing some key pieces this off-season, and then getting knocked off in Week 1 by a rookie Greendale Human Beings squad, had to be questioning whether or not they have what it takes to take that one final step they were missing last spring.

Up next for the Smokin Axolotls, is a showdown with the (1-1) Blitz Babes. Let’s see if Stefan Fennes’ squad can build off of their first win of the season.

One team who hasn’t been able to find any answers so far is the Warriors. They’ve been a stable of inconsistency the first 2 weeks of the season. In Week 1, they went toe-to-toe in a shoot-out against an N.W.O squad that is no stranger to scoring points. Although the blue and yellow had to settle for 32-32 tie, they seemed to pick up where they left off from the spring season, when they were one of Division E’s most potent offenses.

This past Monday night against Victorious Secret, instead of building off of their Week 1 momentum, the Warriors, did the complete opposite, as they looked like a first-year team who had never played before. Passes were dropped, throws were off target and ill-advised, tackles were missed, and coverages were repeatedly blown, as they went on to lose the game 24-6.

While it’s still early in the season, the Warriors, face a must-win game against a struggling Cette Equipe La squad, Tuesday night in Kirkland.

It was brought to my attention by FlagPlus Football Founder and President Rob Campana, that this past week there seemed to be for a lack of better words, some confusion with the Blitz Babes, Channel 4 News Team, Goofy Goobers, and Sticknmovers regarding players Jonah Eisenberg and Jarryd Taylor. Apparently, Eisenberg, who had already played for the Blitz Babes, was also listed on the Channel 4 News Team roster, while Taylor, who already plays for the Goofy Goobers, played as a sub for Sticknmovers.

The result of all the confusion, was Channel 4 News deleting Eisenberg from their roster, and a forfeit from the Sticknmovers, who actually ended up losing their Week 2 game to the Blitz Babes even with Taylor in their lineup. While the loss ended up being a simple formality, the points scored by the losing team in the game do not count, as a forfeit game automatically calls for a 30-0 defeat. Points scored is one of the tie-breakers that is used when determining who qualifies for the post-season, hopefully the goose egg on the scoreboard doesn’t come back to haunt the Sticknmovers come playoff time.

Just to be clear, no matter if you are in Conferene A or B, or even if you don’t play a team in the regular season, you are NOT ALLOWED to play on two teams in the same division.

Top 3

Giovanni Bavota (Victorious Secret) – The third-year Defensive Back/Wide Receiver, had a monster performance, with 3 interceptions, one of which was run back for a touchdown, to go along with 2 receiving TDs versus the Warriors.

Massimo Cicchini (Goon Squad) – Numerous times over the past 3 seasons, I have put the Goon Squad’s Quarterback, on the Step It Up list, and for good reason. So far, 2 weeks into the winter campaign, Cicchini, has looked impressive, as he’s thrown for 9 TDs 0 INTs, and has reached career-highs in yards per pass with 12, and a 122.2 QB Rating. Here’s hoping he keeps up the solid play.

The Aylward Bros (Greendale Human Beings) – Yes, I know it’s not always fair to give higher division players love for dominating in a lower division, but Danny and Brandon put on a show, by combining for 7 touchdowns in their team’s 39-18 win over the Bruins. Impressive job boys.

Step It Up

Jared Buck (The Spanish Inquisition) – The FPF sophomore, and first-year Quarterback showed a lot of promise week 1 contest against the Ravens, as he threw for 3 touchdowns, and over 150 yards.

Last Saturday, was a completely different story, as Buck, had the worst game of his brief passing career. The pivot went 6 of 26 for 75 yards, 1 TD and 3 INTs against the Goon Squad. His 12.8 QB Rating was the only thing worse than his 23.1 completion percentage.

Dave Teltreault (Dez Nuts) – Speaking of lackluster Quarterback performances, Teltreault, ent 4 of 23 for 100 yards, and 5 INTs. As I sid be fire the season started, when you have more, or as close to to as many picks than completions, you make the list.

Emilio Greco (Rogue Squad) – The Quarterback, had 3 interceptions, and only 4 completions, in his team’s 34-12 loss to Savage Mode.

Step It Up gentlemen.

Matchups

FBG versus DGC –  The battle of the acronyms is set to take place Sunday night at 8PM in Kirkland.

Broke Boys versus Goon Squad – Two teams off to surprising starts. The winner of this one will take control of the Conference A West Division. Cameron Wilson vs Massimo Cicchini, Shamar Joassaint vs Matthew Cocolicchio, Liam Barclay vs Matthew Gagliardi, there are a lot of matchups that will bare watching in this one.

Warriors versus Cette Equipe La – As I said earlier, this is a big game the Warriors, but the same could be said for C.E.L. With 1 point between the both of them, whoever loses this one, is in danger of falling into a huge hole that they might not be able to climb out of.
