Wild Card Recaps
Brewers Edge Out No Punt Intended in Thrilling Playoff Encounter
My final score prediction for this game was No Punt Intended 32 – Brewers 27. I knew this game would be the most interesting of the wild card games as these teams were very evenly matched and have similar records, and it came down to the wire. In a heart-stopping finish, the Brewers (4-6, 15th seed) pulled off a stunning ending against No Punt Intended (4-6, 18th seed) by a score of 33-32. This first-round playoff matchup lived up to the hype, with both teams trading blows throughout the game. The game was a shootout from the start, with both quarterbacks, Alexis Labonté for the Brewers and Alexandre Szalipszki for No Punt Intended, putting on impressive displays. Labonté, in particular, had a standout performance, completing over 85% of his passes, throwing for over 200 yards, 5 touchdowns and 0 INTs. Szalipszki also showed his efficiency, spreading the ball around to multiple receivers and not turning over the ball as well. While the offenses stole the show, both defenses struggled to contain their opponents. Numerous big plays and missed tackles contributed to the high-scoring affair. Only 1 sack between both defences and 0 interceptions. These defences also did not force any punts or turnover on downs. The game ultimately came down to which offense could make one more crucial play.
Brewers Clinch the Win
The Brewers managed to hold on for the victory despite a late push from No Punt Intended. A touchdown pass from Labonté to Dubeau in the second half with minutes remaining proved to be the difference-maker. While No Punt Intended marched down the field with few plays remaining, they were unable to score a final touchdowns to win the game. The Brewers’ victory marks an upset and sets up a challenging matchup against the top-seeded team in the next round. They will face Jägerbombers. No Punt Intended will be disappointed with the loss but can take solace in their performance.
Les Studz Take Out Pack-a-Punch in Exciting Fashion
My score prediction for this playoff matchup was Les Studz 26 – Pack-a-Punch 20. I figured pack a punch would be able to hang in the whole game but ultimately fall short on scoring enough or capitalizing on crucial extra points or getting an important stop. In a back-and-forth playoff battle, the Les Studz (5-5) emerged victorious over Pack-a-Punch (3-7) by a score of 32-24. The game featured solid offensive performances from both teams, but it was a defensive turnover that ultimately decided the outcome. The Pack-a-Punch came out firing and without their leading receiver Stefano De Seta for pack a punch, it was Micheal De Seta that stepped up for them offensively catching 5 passes for 85 yards and 2 scores. The first score came by Michael De Seta quickly finding the end zone on a long touchdown pass. However, they were unable to convert any of their converts all day, leaving the score at 6-0. The Les Studz responded with a touchdown of their own, but also failed to convert the extra point, making it a 6-6 game.
Defensive Turnovers Prove Crucial
The game took a dramatic turn when Les Studz’s Mathieu Limoges intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown. This gave them a 12-6 lead. Pack-a-Punch answered with another touchdown pass to De Seta, but again failed to convert the two-point try.The back-and-forth scoring continued throughout the game, with both teams trading touchdowns. Les Studz quarterback Philippe Gélinas had an impressive performance, throwing for four touchdowns. However, it was a defensive interception by Limoges that proved to be the difference-maker. Despite the loss, Pack-a-Punch showed resilience and fought until the final whistle. Turnovers and the inability to convert extra points ultimately cost them the game.
This playoff matchup was a thrilling showcase of offensive firepower, but it was the Les Studz’s ability to capitalize on turnovers that propelled them to victory.
Divisional Round Previews
Snowdon Deli Degens Vs Knights 2.0
The Division D playoffs kick off with a blockbuster matchup as the undefeated, seemingly invincible Snowdon Deli Degens prepare to face the surging Knights 2.0. With the Degens coming off a dominant undefeated regular season and the Knights riding a wave of momentum, this matchup promises to be a thrilling encounter.
The Degens have dominated the regular season, boasting a perfect 10-0 record and a staggering plus 180 point differential and league-leading offense, which has racked up an impressive 360 points. At the helm is QBOY hopeful Adam Malinoff, whose season has been nothing short of extraordinary. Their high-powered offense has been a nightmare for opposing defenses. With 42 touchdowns and only four interceptions, Malinoff has showcased exceptional accuracy and play-calling, making the Degens a strong force on that side of the ball and nearly impossible to hold this team to under 30.
However, the Knights 2.0 have emerged as a dark horse in the playoffs. After a shaky start to the season, the team has found new life under the leadership of Marc Andre Reeves. Since taking over as quarterback, Reeves has orchestrated five wins in six games, injecting a newfound energy and efficiency into the Knights’ offense. His ability to spread the ball around and avoid turnovers has transformed the team into a genuine playoff contender. Knights 2.0 enter this game as the underdogs, holding a 4-6 record. However, their recent form suggests that they are far from an easy opponent. The Snowdon Deli Degens challenge will be to contain the surging Knights 2.0 and keep them from ruining their perfect season.
While the Degens are undoubtedly the favourites, the Knights 2.0 carry an undeniable momentum and belief. This matchup will be the best of the weekend as I believe it will be a suer close game and a showdown between firepower against a rejuvenated underdog. I really want to choose the knights and wouldn’t be surprised at all if they knock off the #1 seed, but the Degens have earned the right to be the top dogs and I believe they can win close games in tight situations. Give me an offensive slugfest, and the Deli Degens to win 42-40.
SNP vs. Notorious C.I.G: A Rematch with High Stakes
The Divisional Round is set to deliver another explosive matchup as SNP clashes with the Notorious C.I.G. Both teams enter the game with momentum, albeit in different ways. SNP finished the regular season on a strong note, winning three of their last four games. Their 7-3 record showcases a team that was consistently competitive and just shy of reaching the division’s elite. With a roster full of talent and a newfound sense of cohesion, SNP is poised to make a deep playoff run. On the other side, the Notorious C.I.G had a late-season stumble due to the absence of their star quarterback, Joey Notaro. With Notaro at the helm, this team is a top team in the division, as evidenced by their dominant 32-12 victory over SNP earlier in the season in week 7. However, the question remains: can they recapture that magic without missing a beat? They will be happy to reclaim Joey as their starting quarterback but will they be able to hop right back into the grove that they left off with?
Sam Anastasopoulos has emerged as a dominant force for SNP, and his ability to stretch the field will be crucial. He has been very important to their success as a dominant #1 receiver. With nearly 450 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns, Anastasopoulos has been a game-changer, making him a key player for SNP in this playoff clash. The Notorious C.I.G defense will need to devise a plan to contain him if they hope to secure a victory. This rematch promises to be a thrilling contest, with both teams eager to prove their worth and advance to the next round. I think SNP takes this rematch 38-28
Wild Card Round Player of the Week
Marc Andre Reeves- Knights 2.0
In a dazzling display of skill and poise, Marc Andre Reeves has earned Player of the Week honours following a standout performance in Knights 2.0’s thrilling 51-30 victory over the Cookie Monsters in the wild card round.
Facing a great lineup that included high division stars like Arthur Doyon and Jerome Hovington, Reeves was nothing short of spectacular. He orchestrated an offensive masterpiece, throwing for 227 yards and an astonishing 8 touchdowns, while maintaining a flawless record with 0 interceptions. His precision was on full display as he completed 16 of 22 passes and, impressively, did not get sacked once throughout the game.
Reeves’ leadership and accuracy have been key factors in Knights 2.0’s impressive turnaround this season. With a 5-1 record under his helm, he has not only secured a critical win but has also provided the momentum needed for a deep playoff run. His ability to keep the ball out of harm’s way and his exceptional decision-making have been hallmarks of his play this season, making him a crucial asset to the Knights’ success. As Knights 2.0 advances in the playoffs, Marc Andre Reeves has proven himself to be the cornerstone of their offense and a true game-changer. Congratulations to Marc Andre Reeves, our Player of the Week!
