Power Rankings Get Shook Up
Welcome to the Week 9 Flagplus Football Division 6 article.
What a crazy week of games we just had. Upsets, blowouts, nail-bitters, and a couple of ties. It’s pretty safe to say that Week 9 had it all. The result of all the action, was near-complete shakeup of the power rankings.
In what turned out to be the Game of the Week (sorry Pardon My Swag and Warriors) the Mogadishu Pirates managed to squeak by the Rolling Rock 34-30 Saturday night in Brossard. This game definitely had a playoff feel to it, as both squads exchanged early scores, and appeared to be fired up from the opening whistle. The second half was equally as intense, as both defenses came out to play as well.
At the end of the day, this contest came down to conversions, as the Mogadishu Pirates got 3, compared to zero by the Rolling Rock.
For Migadishu Pirates, their the to perfection lives on for another week. Given that they have the biggest target on their backs, MG should get used to playoff-like regular season games, as teams are salivating at the chance to knock them oUT of the number one spot of the power rankings.
For the Rolling Rock, despite the tough loss, theyou shouldn’t hang their heads, as they proved that they can definitely roll with the best team in D6. With remaining games against Pardon My Swag and the Broke Boys, the double R.R has a chance to not only solidify their playoff spot and climb the standings, but also make a statement while doing so.
Los Avocados pulled off of a stunning upset by knocking off the Channel 4 News Team 21-18, thanks to some help from Josh Vasquez’s former The Commission teammate Thomas Zorko, as the duo connected for 79 yards and a touchdown.
For Los Avocados, the win is huge, as it keeps them alive in the playoff race, as they move into a tie for 9th in Conference A, with Sons of Mitches and Dez Nuts. All 3 team’s will need the 8th place Broke Boys to lose their 2 final games to qualify for the post-season.
For the Channel 4 News Team, this is another in a series of games that leaves us all wondering who they really are. Are they the team that knocked off Victorious Secret, the Goofy Goober, and the N.W.O? Or are they the squad that lost to Dez Nuts and Los Avocados? C4NT finishes the regular season with games against the Ravens, DGC, and Super Troopers, maybe we will get some answers
In what might have been the most interesting game of Week 8, Victorious Secret got back on the winning track, by beating the Ravens 14-12. The upset was a tale of two games, as the Ravens jumped out to a 14-0 halftime lead, while the Ravens gave their opponents a taste of their own medicine, as they put up 12 TDs, while pitching a shut-out of their own. Once again, conversions played a huge role, as the Ravens weren’t able to get any, and that was the difference in their loss.
In the bigger picture, the win was a huge one for a Victorious Secret team that appeared to be stuck in quicksand, as they had gone winless in 3 straight games heading into their contest against the Ravens. While catching the red-Warriors for the Conference B Central is probably out of the question, VS, still has a chance to catch and pass Pardon My Swag, Smokin Axolotls, v, and the aforementioned Ravens, in the all-important battle for playoff seeding.
Top 3
Kevin St-Pierre (Rolling Rock) – The team’s MVP had a big game as he had 6 reception for 113 yards (both game highs) to go along with 2 touchdowns. The 3rd year player also added an interception on the other side of the ball.
Nelson Pereira (Bruins) – The second-year player was like a one-man show against FBG, as Pereira, threw 3 touchdowns, ran for 2 TDs, and scored another on defense (he had 2 INTs) in his team’s 45-2 blowout win.
Alex Joltopuf and Danny Aylward (Greendale Human Beings) – This duo was lethal to say the least, as they carved up the Sons of Mitches defense, for an incredible 4 touchdowns. Aylward, would go on to throw for a Week 8 high 6 TDs in his team’s 55-30 win over the SOM.
Honorable Mention:
Rory Semerjian (Smokin Axolotls) – The rookie had another monster game, as he put up 5 grabs for 80 yards, 4TDs, and added a pick-6 on defense, in his team’s victory over the Broken Boys.
Jordan Farray (Sons of Mitches) – Despite his team’s aforementioned loss to the Greendale Human Beings, Farray, had a solid game with 5 catches for 108 yards and 3 TDs.
Ryan Shapiro (Goofy Goobers) – He only threw 7 passes, but he completed 6 of them for 126 yards and 4 TDs in his team’s victory over Rogue Squad.
Step It Up
Gabriel Boyer (Ravens) – Boyer, had by far his worst game of the season, as he completed 1 of 13 passes for 6 yards, and 3 INTs. More importantly, the Ravens suffered their first loss of the season.
Rogue Squad and FBG Offenses – Both teams combined for 2 points in their losses to the Goofy Goobers and Bruins respectively. At this point of the season, unless your top two options at QB aren’t playing, that shouldn’t be happening.
Teams who complain about getting no love, but then around and fall on their faces the following week. I’ve been writing for FPF for a long time, and every year, there is at least one team who feels that they aren’t getting their due, either in my articles, or from the podcast staff. While it’s physical impossible to watch every game, speaking for myself, I try to get to as many as I can during the week, but I will admit, there are some team’s who I have only seen once this year. With that said, I don’t the mind the attention requests at all, BUT if you are going to put a bullseye on you and your team, please make sure that you guys Step IT UP.
Elite 8
1. Mogadishu Pirates – Another close call, but once again, the top team in D6 found a way to get it done.
2. Warriors – They jump a spot courtesy of their blowout win over Pardon My Swag, and the Ravens loss to Victorious Secret. Will the Warriors, who have won 6 in a row, make 7 against a tough Smokin Axolotls team?
3. Ravens – They drop one spot after their loss to Victorious Secret. They still only have 1 loss, but must make a statement this week against the Channel 4 News Team.
4. Savage Mode – They raise a spot in the rankings based off of their dominant win over Dez Nuts. They have a chance to go up even further, depending on what they do versus Sons of Mitches.
5. Goofy Goobers – Strength of schedule issues aside, they rise a spot after shutting out the Rogue Squad 31-0.
6. Smokin Axolotls – Another impressive dominating win over the Broke Boys, sees them rise a spot in the rankings this week.
7. Pardon My Swag – It wasn’t that they lost to the Warriors, it’s the fact that they got blown out is why they drop 3 spots.
8. Rolling Rock – They came within a play of giving the Mogadishu Pirates their first loss of the season. That is why they stay in the list.
