Poseidon’s Tears and a Crashed Party
Week 5
Hey FPF and Div 1 & 2 readers. Thanks for tuning in to another edition of this winters articles. Already week 5 and usually would be our mid-season but not this season. If you haven’t noticed already our regular season has transformed from a 10 week season to a 14 week season. So mid-season won’t be here for another 2 weeks. Luckily that means a lot more flag to be played. I will admit writing for two divisions in one article has been a little challenging as I am doing my best to cover both divisions equally and adequately. Its also hard to compare how teams are doing and get a good look/idea of what the standings indicate as teams have played a wildly different amount of games played. Unfortunately we have to work with the schedule as best as possible.
NFL Playoffs
I know I haven’t touched on the NFL season yet but this is a perfect the perfect time to do just that. We’ve been treated with some really great games and good football as of late. Last weekends Conference Championships were a great example as the 9ers mounted a huge second half comeback. For all the great numbers Purdy has generated this season, he has still been criticized as a game manager and being elevated by his teammates. Well I think Brock Purdy has shown he can win and play great even in tough situations and play from behind. A great season for the Lions but they just couldn’t close out the second half. 4 Quarters of football. Either way I think they are great team and will have success as long as Dan Campbell is around. In the AFC, I was rooting for the ravens but I knew Mahomes would have his way and if it came down to it, the NFL not only wants their golden boy in the Super Bowl but obviously want every opportunity to showcase Taylor Swift. But I don’t think the Chiefs were given this game whatsoever. The ravens did not play well enough to win and Kansas City did everything right. From ball protection to great defence, they did it all. Oh also a huge day from 87. On a day when he broke Jerry Rice’s postseason receptions record, Travis Kelce put together an outstanding performance, hauling in all 11 of his targets for 116 yards, and a touchdown. Kelce’s back shoulder touchdown grab was incredibly impressive, especially since it came against Kyle Hamilton. A great season that ends abruptly for the AFC’s #1 seed. One positive takeaway; a great game by Baltimore’s rookie. Even though the lost fumble was frustrating, it shouldn’t take away from Zay Flowers‘ performance, as he was Baltimore’s only effective receiving threat for most of the game. Flowers finished five receptions for 115 yards, three first downs and a touchdown. The loss stings, but the Jackson-Flowers connection is going to be prolific for the foreseeable future.
So the Super Bowl is set and we are getting a great 2020 rematch as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers. Ill save my prediction for next week. So thats enough NFL news, time for the real action.
Div 1 & 2 Weekly Headlines
Poseidons Kiss 4 INTs= 0-2 Start
Poseidon’s kiss took on Mangoose last week and was given their second loss in as many games. An 0-2 start for last years division B champs is not what they had in mind. But lets be honest 12 points and 4 total INT’s is not going to cut it. This team has loads of talent and already knows how to play together and win. They have an opportunity to get back on track and start building some momentum as they play two games this weekend.
Will FFN Drop to 0-3?
Will division 1’s FFN fall to 0-3 after their week 5 matchup. This team led by Jarryd Taylor at QB has found some success but simply isn’t playing well enough to win games. 82 points allowed in only two weeks and only completing 55 percent of passes of offence is exactly how to NOT win football games. I think this squad needs to try and dive the field and take whats given to them. I also think Jarryd should be using his legs way more then once a game. Jarryd is one of the fastest guys I’ve ever seen when it comes to acceleration and I think he could beat countless rushers with his speed and elusiveness for first downs. They have Blessed coming up on their schedule and they need to get their first win of the season sooner rather then later.
How long can Nicolas Schaefer go without an INT?
After a great game in week 4 by Schafer and Mangoose who won with a 31-12 scoreline. A near perfect game for Schaefer as he completed 19 of 25 passes for 5 touchdowns and a 145 yards. In 2 games fro Schaefer he is 2-0 and has a 10:0 TD-INT ratio. Really great decision making and precision by Schaefer. Obviously still many games left to play for Mangoose but it will be interesting to see how long he is able to go without turning the ball over. You can be sure that If he isn’t turning the ball over this team has a great defence that will likely cause turnovers and keep the scoring low. Very impressed by his start to the winter season.

Royaume Luminaire (0-1) Vs Party Crashers (1-2)
Royaume Luminaire and Party Crashers kick off our division 1 week 4 here on Saturday night. Looking for their first win Royaume Luminaire are on a mission to get their first in the win column against the 1-2 Party Crashers. Also seeking a W, Party Crashers look to get their record back to .500 begin running the table. Royaume Luminaire led by Jesse Dupuis had a great week 1 performance after throwing 6 TDs and 0 INTs. Unfortunately his efforts weren’t enough to give his team the edge vs Blessed. Today they face a less talented squad in Party Crashers but one that will still test them and come out with a win if they don’t play to their standard. Watch our for AJ Gomes to have a solid day as I predict he will lead this team in targets and receptions all season. AJ is a threat in all areas of the field and has the ability to beat you in zone and man to man coverage. Other then Zach Alexis, Party Crashers do not possess a DB to slow AJ down, so they better hope he is present. Party Crashers will look to Vincent Cléroux as their leading receiver to make some big plays that will hopefully shock Royaume Luminaire and keep them in this game. Jesse Dupuis rarely puts the ball in harms way and I think he will keep his Int total at 0 after this game. I don’t predict a blowout but look for Royaume Luminaire to come out hungry and firing all game. They should control this one 44-26.
I was absolutely wrong on my prediction as I assumed Royaume Luminaire would tear apart this defence and hold control of this game. I predicted Jesse Dupuis and company to score 46 and they almost didn’t score half that amount. Im sure the 26-26 tie for Royaume Luminaire feels like a loss. The game still seemed like Royaume Luminaire would come out with the W until late in the second half Royaume Luminaire held a 6 point lead and were driving to run out the clock and get their first win of the season. But Mendel Joseph had other plans. He made the biggest play of the game as he intercepted Jesse Dupuis

Bless Up (1-0) Vs 2HD (0-1)
Bless Up and 2HD have only played once so far this season and have had opposite results. A 1 point heartbreaker vs #NR for 2HD and a 10 point win for Bless Up. Good to see Joey Taylor and 2HD back but the rust was evident as Joey’s last full season was one year ago. His first game of 2024 was not one to remember as he only completed 65% of his passes and turned the ball over 3 times. With vet players on this team such as Paul Lapierre, Danny D’amour and Justin Blanchard they are not short on talent and experience. If Joey can get back to his standard of play, which I think he will, 2HD will be a contender come seasons end. But I do think it is still early for this squad to pull of an upset vs Div 2’s top team. Bless Up and Stephen Harripersaud have been at the top of division 2/ B for a while now and I don’t expect it to change. I can’t wait to see what type of fire works this game will give us but I’m expecting a good one. At first glance this game looks like it could be Bless Up all the way, but once 2HD gets just a little more adjusted they will also be an offensive force. My prediction for this game is that both QBs will have turnovers but Joey Taylors will come late in the game and will lead to the game winning drive for Bless Up. Give me the guys in orange 36-30.
Raff’s Week 5 Game of The Week
Div 1 Braves (1-1) Vs The Jamesons (2-0)
A Huge game in division 1 as the Jamesons take on the big bad Braves. For the Jamesons as they have the opportunity to defeat one of the top teams in div 1 but also have the possibility of moving to 3-0 as one of the only undefeated teams in div 1. As much as this is a big game for The Jamesons its an even bigger game for the Braves as they do not want to fall to 1-2 and lose the tiebreaker to The Jamesons. So far I have been correct about Joe Maheu and his path to being the nest QB in Div one this winter as he has thrown 350 yards and 12 TDs in 2 games. This roster is just loaded with the best Flag players in all of Quebec and I would be very surprised to see them lose back to back games. This team consistently finds the endzone and forces opponents to be on their A game offensively or they will fall viciously behind. I would like to see Jeff Rosenblatt and company take a strong hold of division one and prove they are the team to beat. But ultimately I have to go with my gut and thats saying Joe Maheu throws a 7 TD game and is able to lead this unit to their second victory. A wild game this will be I’m sure, give me Braves 52-41.
Div 2 Blue Ballers (0-2) Vs Stoics (1-1)
One of the last games of the weekend in division 2 is a great one as the Blue Ballers take on the Stoics. For The Stoics they come into this one at 1-1 and eager to get back on the field after 2 consecutive bye weeks. Chris Rivest began his season throwing 10 Tds and only 1 INT. Very precise and very protective of the football. Defence has been playing well also as they have caused 3 turnovers and only gave up 65 points so far. On the other hand a winless start for Blue Ballers. Run it once and Mangoose got the best of this squad both by one score. Blue Ballers haven’t played bad but haven’t played great either. Fred Dupuis has an 8:45 TD-INT ratio. Only 1 INT and 2 sacks for their defence absolutely makes this team play from behind and always play catch up. Unfortunately for Blue Ballers I don’t think things will be better this game. The Stoics are the more complete team and they are my pick to take home the W. Give me the Stoics in a lower scoring 31-24.
