Playoff Season is officially here!!

As I write this, the regular season is officially over, and we are currently in the playoffs. A lot of teams fought hard to try and make it; some were successful in jumping into the green area of the standings, while others were not. For those who weren’t, hopefully, we’ll see you next season! Now we will talk about Coed 2 since they are done with their divisional rounds, while Coed 1 hasn’t started their playoff games yet. Let’s hop into it, enjoy!

Coed 2

Let me start by saying that there were a lot of upsets that happened Sunday night in the Laval Dome, some of which many people would say were speechless. Games went from 4 pm to 8 pm, where all of the coed 2 teams were gathered.

Lords of the Field 19-12 Balls Deep

Not surprised by this win; Felix Gerin-Lajoie is a very smart and agile quarterback, as I mentioned throughout this season. He also has a great variety of players and, most importantly, uses his female players which makes a huge difference. In this game, although it was not a very high-scoring game, they did manage to score one touchdown more than Balls Deep. If you look at the stats, all touchdowns were made by female athletes, therefore, I am led to believe that they are good route runners and have great hands to catch. This was shown as they were able to outrun and find the holes in Balls Deep’s defense and where Felix was then able to spot them once they were open and send the ball their way. This is why good female players are important to have on your coed team because if there are mis matches, the opposing team will use the advantage of those matchups and get the win.

Y&Y 30-0 Power Puff Girls

I believe it was a forfeit for Power Puff Girls, making Y&Y automatically win their game and move onto the next round.

Flash 19-24 The IG Team 2

Now this is a game I was speechless about. Having watched the last 10 minutes of this game, I couldn’t believe The IG Team would score on the last 2 plays (or the last play of the game, correct me if I’m wrong) and win it. Flash has been in the top 3 teams since the beginning of this season, and now to lose against a 14th seeder…I have no words.

I guess that Flash didn’t play their best game; they had put Jeremy Murphy as the rusher, who is an absolute threat on both sides of the ball. Putting him as a rusher, he did an excellent job at patting down the ball when the QB was throwing it and also putting pressure on him. However, it was now up to Jeremy’s teammates to keep the defense steady and not let anyone near the end zone. It was not the case as they let them score on that last drive, which made them lose. It’s a game of ups and downs; I’m sure they are not happy at losing this playoff game, but all I gotta say is that they played really well this season. Juliette Beauvais, quarterback for Les Cavaliers, had a good season and made her practice even more with her teammates in their offseason. They should still be proud of themselves for how good they’ve done.

McNuggies 26-31 Fitsquad

Another game I was shocked about. McNuggies, being another team in the top 3 since the beginning of the season, have now lost against a 12th seeder. They, in fact, did not have their usual quarterback; he was coaching for football Quebec and unfortunately was not present for their divisional game. Alexandre Roel was their replacement QB, he did well but having not played as a quarterback with this team since the beginning truly did not help in this situation. They were also missing a couple of their original girls since they were working or busy, and their game was pretty early Sunday. Other than that, Fitsquad scoring in the last few plays of the game got them their win, and they are now off to the quarterfinals.

Pig 6 13-40 Team Rocket

Team Rocket has amazing players such as Mathilde Renaud, snapper for them, who I’d say is one of their threats. She has height and hands; being a snapper, you would not expect her to do corners and make touchdowns; therefore, playing against them, she is definitely one to watch out for. Also, Clara Beaudoin and Nassim Ouadhi, other players to watch out for on offense, they are quick and can get open easily if you do not look after them. Guillaume Beland used his players the smartest way possible, and that indeed got him to score 6 times, winning the game against Pig 6 who weren’t able to stop them during this time.

Kanikule 30-6 Kamikaze

Athena Ryan, being the amazing female quarterback she is, knows how to use her players and read the defense. It showed while playing against Kamikaze as she places the ball exactly where her players are supposed to be, and her players, being amazing athletes, are able to go up to that ball and gain lots of yards. I have nothing bad to say; she uses her players to her advantages, distributes the ball as much as she can, and on defense, her players know what to do; they communicate, pat down the balls, and intercept it when the time comes. Great win!

Pass Whoopin’ 33-13 Who’s Gonna Carry The Boats

It was a rough start to the game for both teams; in the first half, it was only 13-13. However, when the second half started, Pass Whoopin’ got a little bit more energy, and it showed that they wanted it. Scoring on their first drive gave them momentum and started to play more aggressively after catching those balls. Joey Notaro caught (I believe) a quick slant and then brought it to the 1-yard line, to which he scored the touchdown afterward. Pass Whoopin’ was also able to stop Alexandre Szalipszki’s run a couple of times, only letting him gain little yardage. Speaking of my team, I’d say it was a big team win; everyone played their positions well, on defense, we stopped them multiple times, and everyone fought to get the win.

Kiss My Christmas Balls 36-35 Balles Profondes

To finish off, this game was another one I was confused and shook at how it went down. Last 5 plays, Kiss My Christmas Balls were down 5 points and needed to score to win. They were close to the end zone, so I believe they weren’t that nervous. However, it is 1st down, 4 plays left to the game, Brady throws the ball, and it gets defended by Francois Rocheleau. They now have 3 plays left to score, but they do manage to score a touchdown, winning their game. Nonetheless, being a team that won 10-0 during the regular season, they should not have been this close to losing. I don’t know how that happened. I don’t think they underestimated Balles Profondes or maybe were a bit too confident, and that almost made them lose.

All teams that won are playing against each other tonight in the Laval Main; winners from each game will now make their way to the semi finals next week. Good luck to every team playing!
