Peeze’s Playbook (Div 5) – Week 7
Those who know me well, and those who have been following my article for the past few seasons should know by now that I am a huge Batman Fan. Through the years I have had trouble explaining why the character is so important to me to family, friends and (obviously) girlfriends. For me it is about how the character has the power to affect lives in a positive manner. For those who believe that one person can make a difference and in the belief that courage and inner strength could affect people for nearly a century is truly moving.
Filmmaker Brett Culp has put together a documentary entitled Legends of the Dark Knight: We Are Batman that delves into this theme. Please visit the trailer here to see exactly what I cannot possibly explain with any level of eloquence: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd4vnD0P4qs
On a related note, a new charity known as the Wayne Foundation has been put together to spread awareness of commercial sexual exploitation of children and domestic minor sexual trafficking. The cause is important and while it would make us wish that a real life Batman would swoop in from out of darkness and save those in need, it also reminds us that we have the power to save the innocent just as he would. For those interested in the charity the link is as follows: http://waynefdn.org/
Now…on to Flag Plus Football
One More Silver Dollar
The Midnight Bombers rode on into victory this week as they beat the favored Pardon My Swag by a final score of 39-32. From the start of the season the Bombers have been a strong team that struggled against the more experienced FPF teams. However, there has been no doubting their talent. Richard and Mudrosky traded picks as they threw 2 each but in the end Joel Richard was more effective. He went 22-32 and threw for 6 touchdowns. This marks the first time in his career that the Bombers’ QB threw for 6 touchdowns in a single game. Jaggerbomb alumni appear all over the stat sheet as Duchesne, Gelinas and Daloze all did a ton of damage on offense. However, Martin Gelinas was the true shining star as he caught 7 passes for 84 yards and an astounding 4 touchdowns.
PMS played a solid game but could not keep up with the Midnight Bombers. In the end the game down to efficiency and while PMS did manage two second half scores it proved not to be enough to get the W. Johnathan Petard was a yard short of the century mark and scored three times in a losing effort. As hard as they tried Pardon My Swag were not to catch the Midnight Bombers.
If you didn’t get the musical references littered throughout the above breakdown it means that your ears have never been graced with the sweet sounds of the Allman Brothers and I feel bad for you.
The Ghost of FPF Future?
I think I can officially by into the Ghosts. When I say this I’m not talking about the beings that are haunting home office/brewery (shut up it works). Gabriel Wiseman had a huge game this week as 3 of his 8 catches were for touchdowns and despite two interceptions Alexis Gaumont seemed to have a field day while picking apart the Tyrants defense. George Élie-Voyer also had a huge impact on both sides of the ball as he added two touchdowns and intercepted a pass as well.
The Tyrants started the game off ok as they did score twice in the first half. However, they did have trouble moving the ball and John Kaliotzakis found himself dumping the ball off to Belafi more often than he cared to. The Tyrants did not gain 100 yards of offense and that is not a recipe for success in FPF. Chris Kaliotzakis was a bright spot on defense as he recorded two interceptions. Despite his efforts, the Tyrants lose to the ghosts by a score of 39-14.
Hit Men Magical in Victory
Mysterious and Magical Men have struggled offensively in the past few weeks. While Matt Bishara did struggle at quarterback it seems the switch to Gordon Hogan at the helm may not be the solution in entirety. On paper MMM should be a walk in the park division 5 champions. However, flag football is not played on paper, by little green soldiers with a Ghost Busters station wagon acting as a tank from the future sent back in time by self-aware robots intent on destroying the human race. So, as expected Eric and Matt Bishara caught two touchdowns apiece and MMM looked pretty solid. However, it was not enough to win the game. My concern for the pre-season favorites is that two many chef’s are putting their fingers in the broth and it’s starting to taste a lot like dude. They have all the pieces but have not figured out how to best use them.
Hit Squad came into this game winless but found a way to break the ice. Much like MMM they had not found the best way to use their pieces. In this game however, Jarred Humphrey completed 13 passes on 17 attempts and threw for 3 touchdowns while running in another. This season’s standout Matt Monnat caught 7 passes and saw the endzone once in a victorious effort. It seems that Hit Squad took the victory by converting the all-important extra points while Mysterious and Magical Men could not. This was surprising as this is usually the opposite case when experienced teams face veritable newbies. Hit Squad win their first game at the expense of MMM by a score of 27-25.
5 Plays Till Halftime:
Grind it up, sprinkle it on and fire away an answer. This is what Eagle at Master Control and I have done over the past few seasons as he spits out 5 questions and I answer them so quickly it sends him dizzily collapsing to the ground. Here are the five quick-fire questions this week:
Eagle- Pick 6 and CPI are the only remaining winless teams, which one will get the W first?
Peeze- Considering that I predicted Pick 6 to go0-10 this season I would have to give the edge to Clinique Physio impact. Pick 6 has already had their chances against some struggling teams and that teams that have been playing very well as of late. CPI still has some winnable games and given that the injury bug has been squashed I think they will end the season on a more positive note.
Eagle- As an underdog in a matchup, is there something in particular you should be doing with your gameplan?
Peeze- Any team needs to able to do two things that seem counterintuitive. They need to know their identity and they need to be adaptable in situations that require them to adjust throughout the game. By this I mean that you need to know what you do well work within that to exploit the weaknesses of the team they are facing.
Eagle- What about the favorite? Stick to status quo or adapt each week?
Peeze- It depends on the game itself. If the other team let’s you do what you do best, take it. If you need to adapt then don’t hesitate. In the end remember that it wasn’t just the left hook that gave you the knockout in the past. Instead it was a series of punches, it was the proper legwork, commitment to hitting the body etc. Likewise, don’t just remember how you’ve scored in the past, but rather, what set up the scores.
Eagle- Which teasm are getting screwed by their schedule from now until the end of the season?
Peeze- Often, teams don’t live up to expectations and this is usually what causes them to see very tough matchups on the tail end of their schedule. A-Squad is one such team. They were a strong franchise in past seasons but have struggled this season. In 3 of their last 4 weeks they play MMM, Ghosts and Mad Bears. All three of those matchups are challenging. The same can be said of Loose Cannons who are actually playing above expectations but they face the Game Changers, Black Ice, Limetime and Shamrocks. In the past the Loose Cannons have failed to answer the bell when challenged by serious contenders. If they do not step up ytheir game they will have a sorely disappointing second half to their season.
Eagle-How are you 0-3 in the division you cover? Tisk Tisk
Peeze- I can’t believe that I am in the running for the Dagenais in my own division. I don’t know why my team is struggling so greatly. There have been a few roster issues (in that some guys just aren’t playing) but nonetheless I think my team can turn it around. I like the role of Darkhorse and I think we’ll see my boys do just fine from here on out. Theberge, I love you dude but you need to stop throwing picks. Sepastien Thibault, I think you will become the first QB to rush for 300 yards in a game (with 5 rushing touchdowns I would imagine). Nyle Anderson and Mathieu Fafard, I know you’ll get me some points! Desrosiers, Brissons and DaSilva, you guys would make a scary receiving corps so let’s go out and pulverize these ponzers. Cougars D, Poppa Peeze needs me some pick 6’s
Hungover Visions of the World of Tomorrow
As everyone knows one cannot predict the outcome of their own games. There is a bias and it is generally understood to be unethical (to everyone other than Pete Rose).
In our predications this week the only difference between Matt and I was that he picks one less game each week than I do. We both got 11 games right but, he had one less error since he can’t choose his own game. While I’m sure it is a moot point since he would have chosen his own team who were victorious this past week, it still is interesting to consider. My season record stands at 69-39 (.639) while Mat’s 62-33 has him at (.652).
Here are my picks for week 7.

Let’s get up to date with the Fantasy league. Unfortunately, I appear to be behind the 8-ball. Since I don’t know anything about fantasy sports and was just alerted to the fact that we have a post season I will say this: Boys my team is built for the post season. We’re coming for you and we will take home that imaginary trophy!

Reflections Rants and Ravings
- Div 5 teams we are in the home stretch. Start freeing up your weekends for playoff games. If the playoffs aren’t in your future at least you have plenty of time for your currently neglected significant others.
- Allowing too many points? Want to know how to build a good defense? We will tell you how if you tune into this past week’s Flag Plus Bromance.
- It looks like Co-Ed or WFPF is on the horizon. I think this will be an awesome experiment.
- The Bellini is the classiest, tastiest breakfast drink. Sorry folks this claim is not a matter of opinion unless you want to be wrong.
- Conference B East is a tough division as I expected it would be. However it is Cougars, Mad Bears and Ghosts who take the top three spots. Don’t pretend like you called it.
- I got some new cleats today. With the added ankle support I’m hoping that my injury woes that have plagued me for the past few seasons are done.
Power Rankings
- Centurions (6-0)- They may have already played their toughest games and look toward their second perfect season in a row.
- Game Changers (6-0)- They’ve started to allow a few ore points against. However, this hasn’t stopped them from scoring. Game Changers offense is a well oiled machine.
- Shamrocks (5-1)- Their only loss is to the undefeated Centurions. It was ugly but I expect Kernan and co. to bounce back.
- Cougars (6-0)-For a moment I considered sliding the Cougars into the 3 slot but I remain unconvinced after a tight win against a struggling LSU.
- Cheeseburger Eddy (5-0-1)- Their only partial blemish is a tie against a very good team. They bounced back in week 6 and won in a convincing manner.
- Speed Demons (5-1)- They have feasted on the lower tier over the past three weeks. However, in the process they’ve only allowed 6 points and that is ridiculous.
- Mad Bears (5-1)- No one is talking about Sebastien Thibault but he has thrown 21 touchdowns and only one interception so far this season. Oh, and by the way, he has run for 6 TDs!
- Ghosts (4-2)- They are winning games and they are far from having played their best game.
- Los Banditos (4-2)- They have a special feeling about this season. They have to make sure that they can control the game better down the stretch but I do think they stand a chance at being a contender come playoff time.
- Pardon My Swag (4-2)-They took a loss in a tight game against a strong team. No reason to hit the panic switch yet.
Other Teams Receiving Votes
No recount, no commercials, no mercy!
- Gryphons (4-2)- You have to beat good teams to earn some cred. They will have their chances to do so with Cheeseburger Eddy and Speed Demons in the next two weeks.
- Loose Cannons (4-2)-I really do like this team. They are gritty and are chalk full of playmakers. That being said they have to beat a team with a winning record to earn some recognition in my book.
- Warriors- Bagnato has his boys playing at a high level. They might be the hottest team that no one is talking about as they’ve gone 3-0-1 in the last 4 weeks.
- Tyrants (3-3-1)- If we can get the same Tyrants in back to back weeks we can see something special. For the moment, they are way too inconsistent.
- Limetime (3-3)-Double QB sets and other such tricks aside they are starting to figure out who they are. They have a lot experience and if they put the team ahead of their egos, this team can emerge as a late season dark horse.
- Tomahawk Nightmare (3-3)- Tommy Cauchemar’s only losses have come against Speed Demons, Centurions and Game Changers who are a combined 17-1.
Saturday’s Steamed Salamander
Flag Plus Bromance is taking the league by storm as the league’s most entertaining, abrasive, awkwardly romantic, and borderline reprehensible of FPF’s current lineup of shows. Check it out live www.theunclehood.com at 8:00 pm EST. Interact with us by tweet @EagleFPF and getting involved in the conversation.
Let me know why I don’t talk enough about your team by emailing [email protected] or you can reach me on Twitter @PeezeFPF to express yourself with no more than 140 characters. Terry is still desperate for followers so make him feel better by tweeting him at TerryFPF.
If you’d rather have us accompany you to work on your ride in you can listen to me and Terry’s serenade each week by downloading Flag Plus Bromance via iTunes or at http://fpf.podomatic.com.
See you on the fields, till then, thank you for letting me be myself.
