Peeze’s Playbook (Div.5) Week 6- Mid-Season Review

As a member of the FPF media I am famous for producing lengthily articles, standing up for the lower divisions, and being horrible at proof reading.  This article will be worse than usual as I am not proof reading it at all. For two reasons: It’s already monopolized enough of my week and your names freak out spell check and those red squiggly lines are everywhere!

Midseason Breakdown

Every week I tell you who the top 10 teams are in my power ranking.  This week I have decided to breakdown everyone’s first half performance. Many of you may disagree but remember, it’s a giant conspiracy after all.

So for each team I have listed them in reverse order from who I think is the weakest to who I think is the strongest.  After a brief analysis I then predicted what their record will be by the end of the season and, looked at some of the key players.  Additionally, as a tribute to returning teams I scoured your roster for your best offseason acquisitions.  Finally, you will see each team’s midseason grade.  Keep in mind that this does not reflect how well you’ve played in general terms but rather how each team has performed in comparison to my expectations of them.  I call this Peeze’s Constant.

36. Pick 6

Mid-Season Record: 0-5

Analysis: They are allowing a ton of points (35.4 per game) and they are not scoring very many (18 per game). It goes without saying that this is a recipe for disaster. Evan Ely Nolet is the team’s quarterback but this is the first time that he is behind the snapper since week 1 in the Winter 2013 season.  He is surrounded by solid, experienced players but, as it is a roster that has spent little time together they are in the process of developing a feel for each other. Hopefully Evan can continue to develop under the tutelage of teammate and established FPF quarterback Frank Kaye.  Once Nolet develops that confidence I think we will start to see the killer instinct that every quarterback needs.

35. Hit Squad

Mid-Season Record:  0-5

Analysis: When I first saw this roster, I saw Scott Kelly’s name and began to question whether or not our cap system worked as a quarterback with his level of accomplishment in this league should not be throwing in Division 5.  We have seen that it his protégé Jarred Humphries who has taken the reins at the quarterback position and he definitely looks the part of being Scott Kelly’s understudy.  Humphrey seems to show a predilection for throwing the ball deep and taking chances.  While I do appreciate his flair for the spectacular, the teams that tend to succeed in the lower divisions are those who march down the field more methodically. They have definitely shown signs of life but given that they have turned the ball over 13 times it seems that the first lesson they need to learn in FPF is that you need to protect the ball. Unfortunately I think this is a lesson that they will have to take with them into next season as their schedule is a veritable murderer’s row this season as their schedule includes 3 teams that are undefeated by the halfway point.

34. Blue Balls of Destiny

Mid-Season Record:  1-4

Analysis: It’s a tough first go around for the Blue Balls of Destiny.  However, they did pick up their first win against Pick 6 in week 5.  Take it from someone who went 0-9-1 (the infamous Punch Panda season), winning your first FPF game is a big deal.  They still have a lot to learn and the QB carousel of Phaneuf, Decary and Westeres needs to come to a stop at one point so that their defined starting qb can learn from getting the reps required. I think this is a team that will do well because unlike most new teams they do have some veteran leadership but it will rest on their shoulders to teach the lesser experienced players

Predicted Record: 1-9

Mid-Season Grade: C+

Key Players:  Loic Savoiz-Seguin, Alex Phaneuf

33. Expendables

Mid-Season Record: (1-4)

Analysis: We often talk about the old guard; the teams that have been in this league for a while.  In some cases they have not been able to keep up with the increasing talent level in FPF.  This is the situation for the Expendables.  Previously Pendant Publishing, the Expendables has never truly seen success in this league.  Their best season is one where they finished 5-5 and they are struggling this season.  In my opinion, the issue here is that they have always had inconsistent quarterback play.  While it is the hardest position to recruit (as most teams are built around a QB), they need to start making decisions as to whether or not they have someone in Michael Ballard who they think they can be successful with or whether or not it wil be back to the drawing board this offseason.

Key Players: Gabriel Waxman,Daniel Aranovich, Jesse Kalb
Best Acquisition: Gabriel Waxman

Predicted Record: (2-8)

Mid-Season Grade:C-

32.  Montreal Jr. Finest

Mid-Season Record: 1-4

Analysis: Given the athletes on this team and the plethora of experience one would think that MJrF would be a contender for the FPF championship. Moe Khan took some strides developing as a qb last season, they have defensive standouts in Brent Callender, Shane Blackwood and Andel Gordon as wel as a plethora of offensive weapons in Eric Thomas, Shakeel Phinn and Alex Russel.  However, due to injuries, and Moe Khan’s inability to play consistently at the quarterback position, I forsee a rough season for a team that may never truly become the feeder team for Divsion 1’s finest team. Now the injuries have had an even greater impact as Khan is often looking at a different receiving corps each week.  Once they get healthier, and if  they can get into a rythym, the Junior’s finest can have a strong second half of the season.

Key Players: Alex Russell, Eric Thomas, Bret Callender
Best Acquisition:
 Brent Callender

Predicted Record: 2-8

Mid-Season Grade: D-

31.  Clinique Physio Impact

Mid-Season Record: 0-5

Analysis: The worst thing that could happen in any given football game is to watch your quarterback go down.  When your quarterback gets injured in the first half of the first game of the season it is disastrous.  This was the case for Anthony Bozzo who injured his leg in week one. Given that he is a phenomenal athlete and his ability to buy time on any given play is integral to his success, it was hard to watch CPI struggle early.  Now that Bozzo is healthy and armed with a receiving corps that boasts Vincent Vincelli, Scott Booth and Richard Bozzo I think we will see some wins in the second half of the season.

Key Players: Anthony Bozzo, Vincent Vincelli
Best Acquisition:
Alex Haddad  (provided he plays more than 1 game)

Predicted Record: 2-8

Mid-Season Grade: D

30. Vikings

Mid-Season Record: 1-4

Analysis: The Vikings started off strong by beating Pick 6 in week 1.  However, they have since lost 4 straight and Julian Ramsay who started the season so strong has now thrown 10 interceptions in his last three games.  The Vikings have been scoring a decent amount of points (24.6/game) however, they are struggling mightily on the defensive side of the ball and it would seem that they are having trouble protecting the ball in recent weeks.  They need to get these things figured out soon or this will be a long season.

Key Players: Chris Williams, Shako Dimanche, Adrian Redmond
Best Acquisition:
 Eric Pawlusiak

Predicted Record: 2-8

Mid-Season Grade: C

29. Green Lantern Corps

Mid-Season Record: 1-4

Analysis: GLC is reborn and their very own Hal Jordan (dressed as Mendy Cardichon) seems to be in top form despite his pre-season injury. Green Lantern Corps picked up their first win againt the J’s this past week and they looked good in the process. This is a team that has learned a lot in their short FPF experience.  However, despite the team’s athleticism and despite the experience that they’ve acquired, it has not translated into wins.  They have kept their corps together for a while and I don’t think they are very far away but if they can get the 1-2 pieces to complete this team they will be a contender.

Key Players: Jerson Previllon, Mendy Cardichon, Antoni Borowczyk,
Best Acquisition:

Predicted Record: 2-8

Mid-Season Grade: C-

28. Lachine Squad Utopians

Mid-Season Record: 1-4

Analysis: All of LSU’s games have ended in a deficit or surplus of 12 points.  They are a team full of familiar names but they have not had solid play out of the quarterback position.  Now, as they have begun spinning thwe QB carousel, provided that he is healthy enogh to return, I think their best option is Mathieu Domon.  Domon’s a good athlete and a proven winner in this league.  For the moment the trio of Pelletier, Garner and Harry has yielded few results. My concern with this team is that there always seems to be something wrong.  When the offense is working the defense can’t stop a feather with a proverbial brick wall and when the defense shows up the offense seems to be sipping on Breakfast Coladas (essentially Pina Coladas but earlier).

Key Players: Patrice Clement, Pierre-Paul Gelinas, Michel Vallieres

Predicted Record: 3-7

Mid-Season Grade: D+

27. Les Albatros

Mid-Season Record: 1-4

Analysis: This is an athletic teamAntoine Brisson is a remarkably talented, young receiver and can be a matchup nightmare for whomever lines up across from him.  The key for Les Albatros is to limit mistakes.  They have turned the ball over 10 times and have been sacked on 6 occasions (often in key moments in the game).  They have lost 4 times this season but it can be said that they have lost to only one opponent: themselves. If they can get rid of the mistakes that have been plaguing them, they can turn this season around.

Key Players: Antoine Brisson, Mathieu Reindeau, Justin Lafontaine
Best Acquisition:
Zachary G. (sorry the family name is illegible on the site).

Predicted Record: 3-7

Mid-Season Grade: C-

26.  Black Ice

Mid-Season Record: 1-4

Analysis:  Ever since Black Ice split with their ancillary players to rebuild around their core they have struggled.  That being said, they do continue to develop and they do compete each week.  However, they are at the moment on a 4 game losing skid.  Ian Einheiber has become a solid quarterback and his 19 touchdowns-to-7 interception ratio should have them competing in most games.  Nyle Anderson is probably the best two way player in the entire division and he has made his presence felt. The pairing of Anderson and Arciero is one of the best receiving duos in division 5.  Unfortunately, it may not be enough (as the two players have caught 70% of the completed passes so far this season) so we will need to see who else will step it up in order for Black Ice to be successful.

Key Players: Nyle Anderson, Alessandro Arciero
Best Acquisition:
 Justin Occhionero

Predicted Record: 3-7

Mid-Season Grade: C-

25. Sphinx

Mid-Season Record: 1-3-1

Analysis: I still cannot understand what is going on with the Sphinx.  They are a solid team, they’ve seen success before yet they have struggled tremendously this season.  This may in fact be another scenario for an established franchise that is having trouble adjusting to these new, talented teams.  In his career, Etienne Cloutier has never been careful with the ball.  Somehow, this hasn’t affected him much in previous seasons. However this season is showing that you cannot be giving teams extra possessions as it is a death sentence.  The result has been that they are not winning.  Mathieu Fafard has put up monstrous numbers except in the touchdown department (aka where it matters most to Sphinx and MY FANTASY TEAM!!!).  something tells me that they will be better in the second half of the season but I don’t expect them to come out of this.

Key Players: Mathieu Fafard, Phillipe Cloutier, Etienne Cloutier
Best Acquisition:
 Guilleve Buive

Predicted Record: 3-6-1

Mid-Season Grade: D-

24. Midnight Bombers

Mid-Season Record: 2-3

Analysis: This new farm team to division 4’s Jaggerbomb are young, exuberant and exciting to watch.  Joel Richard has done a very good job in his frst season in FPF.  He has thrown 13 touchdown as compared to his 2 interceptions.  Yet this team still finds themselves with a losing record.  The difficulty for many young teams is keeping the other team out of the endzone.  This is no exception for midnight bombers.  Having watched them it seems that they all want to make big plays at times where they would stand  to benefit from being more disciplined.

Key Players: Joel Richard, Martin Gelinas, Gabriel Moreau-Paquette

23. A-Squad

Mid-Season Record: 2-3

Analysis: Despite being one of the most athletic and feared teams in the division coming into this season, this Avenger Crest-Laden team looks to be somewhat crestfallen coming into the season.  Cedrick Nuckle decided to try his hand at quarterback and it has been an up and down season as one would expect from a first year QB. What is interesting for me is the amount of points that this very gifted defense is giving up.  If they can limit the errors on offense and play the stifling style of defense that we are used to seeing from them, this season should get turned around in a heart beat.

Key Players: Alexis Labonte, Yacoub Telemaque, John Kelly Bastien
Best Acquisition:

Predicted Record: 4-6

Mid-Season Grade: D-

22. Limetime

Mid-Season Record: 2-3

Analysis: Limetime has been known for a while as the team that can’t win big games.  I mentioned that when they beat Sphinx this may be the start of something new.  I truly hope so as I am an avid fan of this team despite the fact that they have underachieved in previous seasons.  They had to replace their QB Patrick Manning this season and they seem to have settled on David Daoust for the rest of the season.  The trouble here is that they have many gifted receivers and athletic player who are learning to play quarter back but aren’t quite there yet.

Key Players: Mike Zenone, Devin Daoust, David Daoust
Best Acquisition:
 Matthew Belware

Predicted Record: 4-6

Mid-Season Grade: C

21.  Tomahawk Nightmare

Mid-Season Record: 2-3

Analysis: In the second season for Marquis and company.  Marquis is definitely coming into his own and even in defeat they are usually competitive until the end.  I expected as much the former Div D finalists.  They are tough, physical and quick.  This is usually a winning formula in Division 5. The reason that they have not been more successful is that they lack some experience. Moreover, their losses have come against three off the top teams in the division (Speed Demons, Centurions and Game Changers).  Once they turn the corner, I expect Tommy Cauchemar to be a solid team this year and dominant franchise in seasons to come.

Key Players: J-F Marquis, Olivier Savage, Mathieu Cauchon
Best Acquisition:
 Frederic Villaincourt

Predicted Record: 4-6

Mid-Season Grade: C

20. Warriors

Mid-Season Record: 2-2-1

Analysis:  This task is long enough without having to do any extra research but I do believe that in every previous mid-season breakdown, I have always stipulated that if the Warriors got a quarterback they would see themselves rise out of the cellar (with fine wine in hand I would imagine).  Since Acquiring Mike Bagnato the Warriors seem to be walking with swagger.  The best part of this move is that it allows Cedric Sambour to play as a receiver and he has been tearing it up.  I think this is just one step along the development for the Warriors but they will continue to be relevant as long as they win and recently they have done that as they are undefeated in their last three games (2-01).

Key Players: Mike Bagnato, Cedric Sambour, Samir Dahab
Best Acquisition:
 Mike Bagnato

Predicted Record:4-5-1

Mid-Season Grade: B+

19. Ballz Deep

Mid-Season Record: 2-3

Analysis: Ballz Deep is only as good as QB Anthony Pitoscia plays. With playmakers like Treldon James and Anthony DaSilva it can be said that this team definitely has some firepower.  Typically when Pitoscia is good he is very efficient and Ballz Deep looks like a contender. The rest of their schedule pita them against 2 undefeated teams but in the remaining three games they play against some teams that they may just have the edge on.

Key Players: Treldon James, Anthony Da Silva
Best Acquisition:
 James Donald

Predicted Record: 5-5

Mid-Season Grade: B-

18. J’s

Mid-Season Record: 2-3

Analysis: The J’s are a team that has existed for quite some time.  Hai Minh Luong is a former all-star quarterback and he is known for playing the game intelligently (as well as being a fine purveyor of football equipment).  He has a group of receivers tht he feels very comfortable with and they have an aggressive, ball hawking defense.  While I think this is a recipe for success it does seem like they are missing a piece or two before they can truly become dominant.

Key Players: Hai Minh Luong, Pelerge Cleus, Alexandre Chasse, Soryha Tum
Best Acquisition:
 Maurice Dykmans

Predicted Record: 5-5

Mid-Season Grade: D+

17. Dope Boys

Mid-Season Record: 3-2

Analysis: So we’ve made all the jokes about their obscenely large roster.  It is tough to win games in FPF if you don’t have your best foot forward. So far the Dope Boys have made it work.  Lalonde has been effective (20 passing touchdowns and 2 more on the ground) but they do play some tough, experienced teams moving forward.  IT will be interesting to see if their youthful enthusiasm will continue to help them against the more established teams in this division.

Key Players: A.Lalonde, Ridwan Abdur, Nicholas Desrosiers
Best Acquisition:

Predicted Record: 5-5

Mid-Season Grade: A-

16. Tune Squad

Mid-Season Record: 3-2

Analysis: This is a strong team whose core has championship experience. They have gone with two veritable unknowns at quarterback (John Patrick Mancini and Corey Walwaski) yet they have a winning record.  They were given a tough schedule, which I attribute to their collective experience. So far the receiving duo of Joseph and Yeramain have risen to the occasion and, paired with their remarkably skilled defense has done some damage early on. Tune Squad prides itself on getting a lot of takeaways and getting a lot of sacks. They have done so thys far but one wonders if they can win in a shootout.

Key Players: Ben Joseph, Chris Yeramian, Omar Naek, Jonathan Dextras

Predicted Record: 3-6-1

Mid-Season Grade: D

15. Tyrants

Mid-Season Record: 3-1-1

Analysis: It’s nice to see the Tyrants on a little bit of a role. Last season I begged for John Kaliotzakis to go back to playing quarterback.  He is back behind the snapper and the Tyrants are having a solid season. This team has been together forever and it that is their strength.  The Tyrants know their identity and they find ways to win games.  They are a tough out for good teams and a disaster for teams that are trying to figure it all out. Their offense is effective and their defense is solid.  If they could figure out a way to get more pressure on the QB then this may even propel the Tyrants to the next level.

Key Players: John Kaliotzakis, Chris Kaliotzakis, Andre Frederick
Best Acquisition:

Predicted Record: 5-4-1

Mid-Season Grade: B-

15. First Downers

Mid-Season Record: 3-2

Analysis: My experience with the first downers is that when you expect them to do well they don’t and when you expect them to lose they rise above expectations. Overall this is an athletic bunch however, while they are known for capitalizing on the  mistakes of their nemesis, they make their own share or errors.  I thought that the First Downers would be one of the front-runners this season and it hasn’t really been the case thus far.  That being said, if they get into the playoffs, this is a team that nobody wants to play against.

Key Players: Marc-Andre Theberge, Fredereic Fortier, Jonathan Legault
Best Acquisition:
 Alexandre Picard

Predicted Record: 6-4

Mid-Season Grade: C-

14. Ghosts

Mid-Season Record: 3-2

Analysis:  My concerns at the quarterback position have been met. Alexis Gaumont looks to be the right fit with the Ghosts.  It is a dangerous group of receivers and Gaumont is getting them the ball in important situations.  I think the depth, experience and talent on this team will see them do some damage in the post season. G-Wise is proving that he should be mentioned in the same category of some of the top ‘GM’s’ in the lower divisions.

Key Players: Alexis Gaumont, Georges Elie-Voyer, Gabriel Wiseman
Best Acquisition:
James Carrier

Predicted Record: 6-4

Mid-Season Grade: A-

12. Speed Demons

Mid-Season Record: 4-1

Analysis: So, on the surface it would seem strange that I predicted one of the stronger teams in the league to end up with a winning, albeit mediocre record.  However, I think greater challenges await the Speed Demons after the mid-point.  They definitely play some stiffer competition ahead and, some of their accomplishments are a result of smoke and mirrors. To be honest, if I was doing a power ranking this week, they would be in my top ten.  They have performed well, but my concerns are about how they will look for the rest of the season. However, they should not be easily dismissed. Bryan Nguyen and Alex Lewis are strong anchors to build a team around and they are as good on the field as they are as team leaders.  They make the players around them better and if they can elevate their game they can blow this prediction out of the water.

Key Players: Bryan Nguyen, Alex Lewis, William Phan
Best Acquisition:
D Yassine

Predicted Record: 6-4

Mid-Season Grade: B+

11. Los Banditos

Mid-Season Record: 3-2

Analysis: In week 5, Los Banditos lost on a pick 6 with two plays left.  This should not be discouraging as I thought a matchup against Mad Bears would have been a mismatch for the Mulberry Marauders but in truth they played a very good game.  I think that despite the loss they learned that they can play with some good competition.  If they can call the right plays in critical times and if they buy in and trust the calls, this team will be dangerous.

Key Players: Rafal ‘Zorro’ Filipiuk, Gobi Nadesh, Yavar Ashrafi

Best Acquisition: Simon Sabatino

Predicted Record: 7-3

Mid-Season Grade: C+

10. Mad Bears

Mid-Season Record: 4-1

Analysis: Speed, Speed, Speed! This team plays a very fast and entertaining style. Thibault is almost impossible to contain in the pocket, and his athleticism is matched by his receivers.  They are able to use this quickness to find holes while Thibault makes fools of rushers from across the division.  Other than their first game they have not won any in convicinvg fashon but a win is a win and they seem to always put themselves in a position to be successful.

Key Players: Sebastien Thibault, Raphael Isseri-Guertin, Jeremy Durand- Tremblay

Best Acquisition: N/A

Predicted Record: 7-3

Mid-Season Grade: B

9. Loose Cannons

Mid-Season Record: 4-1

Analysis: Early in the season I was told that I didn’t give the Loose Cannons their due.  The reason that I had ignored them somewhat was that I played against them last winter, in their first game in the franchises existence and I thought that they were a team that had a lot to learn.  That being said learning has come quick as the Loose Cannons have been a solid team on both sides of the ball.  The move of Beausoliel to receiver from quarterback is absolute genius.  Beausoliel is a good athlete and he’s making sure that defences mark him each game.  Still he blown coverage up all season and he has caught 28 balls for 282 yards.  Defensively, Cam Tonner has been on fire as 8 interceptions has given QB Cory Hemsely a lot of extra possessions.

Key Players: JR Beausoliel, Cam Tonner, AJ Kirouac

Best Acquisition: Cody Hemsely

Predicted Record: 7-3

Mid-Season Grade: A-

8. Mysterious and Magical Men

Mid-Season Record: 3-2

Analysis: 3M have had a rough couple of weeks. During that time they lost to two other top tier teams in the division (Centurions and Shamrocks), their defense got exposed and their offense was anything but innovative (see what I did there?)  Matt Bishara has struggled and rumors suggest that Gordon Hogan will be taking over at the quarterback position.  This is still a strong team despite their challenges and still cannot be taken lightly. I was greatly annoyed in watching their

Best Acquisition: Terry Tam

Predicted Record: 7-3

Mid-Season Grade: D

7. Gryphons

Mid-Season Record: 4-1

Analysis: The Gryphons were a team on everyone’s radar at the start of the season but seemed to have slipped off due to a week 1 loss to the Centurions.  The Gryphons did look bad in that game but, so have most teams who face the Centurions.  Aleksander Papich has taken over at the qb position and has done well even though it severly handicaps my fantasy team.  Either way the Gryphons are strong on both sides of the ball and will be a tough team to beat in the playoffs.

Key Players: Aleksander Papich, Dylan Catellier, Kevin Paul

Best Acquisition: Joseph Kano

Predicted Record: 8-2

Mid-Season Grade: B+

6. Pardon My Swag

Mid-Season Record: 4-1

Analysis: Given their new swaggy uniforms (I have always had a penchant for Tar Heel baby blue) I should have expected Pardon My Swag to come out of the gates ready to play. However, I had my doubts early.  Last season, Karl Lavallee led the charge and yet he did not appear on this season’s roster (most likely due to cap restrictions). Instead a new hero has risen in his wake.  Jonathan Petard has put up solid defensive numbers but truly, it is his offensive stat line that will make your eyes pop.  He has caught 28 balls, 14 of them for touchdowns and he has put up 379 yards.  These numbers are staggering and he has become Shawn Mudrosky’s go-to-guy so far this season. Their only loss came in week 1 against Tune Squad however, that was the last time they played a team with a winning record (it’s important to note that due to the scheduling nightmare that is Baie D’Urfe this game may or may not have been played anytime between week 3 and 16 minutes ago).  Nonetheless, I think the wins will keep piling up for PMS.

Key Players: 8-2

Best Acquisition: A+

5. Shamrocks

Mid-Season Record: 5-0

Analysis: Despite the massive turnover of having lost 5 players (most of which named Daoust), Kernan McDoug has his ducks in a row.  This is a scrappy team that finds ways to win.  Amazingly it seems that they find new ways to win every week. This in itself makes them one of the most dangerous teams in the division.  McKernan is mobile and great at reading defenses. Brandon Taylor is one of many underrated receivers on this team. They march down the field well, they score in the redzone and they play solid defense.  They have not had great post season success but they do look ready to take the next step.

Key Players: Doug McKernan, Jourdain Alexis, Brandon Taylor
Best Acquisition: Zachary Alexis

Predicted Record: 8-2
Mid-Season Grade: A

4. Cougars

Mid-Season Record: 5-0

Analysis: The cousins Iadeluca are reunited after a season apart and they seem to have built an incredibly strong team.  Perhaps their greatest triumph was the recruitment of a uniquely talented player in Jean-Jacques Janvier.  Janvier has been tearing it up for the cougars this season and  given that he finds himself on a very strong roster he seems to have taken these boys from good to great.  Adamo Iadeluca has found ways to use Janvier and the rest of his receivers in ways that compliment their individual style and, the result has been Iadeluca’s best statistical season to date.  Their wins have been solid if unspectacular.  Either way this has translated to wins and they expect it to continue into the post season.

Key Players: Erminio Iadeluca, Jean-Jacques Janvier, Adamo Iadeluca
Best Acquisition: Pritchard Jerome

Predicted Record: 8-2
Mid-Season Grade: A-

3. Cheeseburger Eddy

Mid-Season Record: 4-0-1

Analysis: It is a little known fact that a street by any other name is Eddy.  All jokes and awkward FPF/Shakespearian references aside, Cheeseburger Eddy is very good.   Billy Seretis is an incredible qb; Johnathan Makris is an amazing talent on either side of the ball and they know what it takes to win in Flag Plus Football.  However, many new recruits have stepped on to the field and made their presence felt. Eddy Makrymanolakis and Tony Koumentakis were cap steals as they had limited FPF experience but seemingly boundless potential.  They are physical and quick.  So far they have been able to lean on Jonathan Makris offensively.  I have said that this isn’t enough to win.  They’ve said challenge accepted.

Key Players: Jonathan Makris, Billy Seretis, Tony Koumentakis
Best Acquisition: Eddy Makrymanolakis

Predicted Record: 8-1-1
Mid-Season Grade: A-

2. Gamechangers

Mid-Season Record: 5-0

Analysis: We always say that a new team walking into divison 5 will come in, get spanked, take their lumps and grew and become better for it.  The Gamechangers have broken the mould.  This team comprised mostly of JMSB students have come in and gotten right down to business. Anton Sakiz is the QB and face of the franchise.  He is nothing short of astounding but a great cast of characters surrounds him and elevates him to new heights each week.  On the other side of the ball Alvy Mizelle captain’s this defense and he has taken a talented but green group of men and turned them into one of the most exciting defenses in the league.  They play fast, they seem to always be on attack whether they are on offense or defense and they have put together a truly special team.  One wonders if they can truly make a run in the post season.  I can’t fortell the future but I can say that they have the feel of a team that may be a ‘team of destiny’

Key Players:  Anton Sakiz, Justin Filteau, Paul Santache

1. Centurions

Mid-Season Record: 5-0

Analysis: Having scored 190 points and allowed only 48 points (a mere 9.6 points per game). The Centurions seem to be the front-runners this season.  While they definitely have their sites set on another perfect season.  They serve as their own cautionary tale as the Centurions have already achieved that feat last season only to lose in the first round of the playoffs.  They know that while regular season glory is nice there is only one true prize and they will have to travel this voyage with a bull’s eye on their back.  So far Jeremy Laporte has been incredible on both sides of the ball.  To be honest, as good as he’s been defensively; he seems to have taken his quarterbacking to another level.  Watching him play is akin to watching hundreds of Mr. Smith’s being hammered in bullet time (it’s awesome and everyone around him just seems to be travelling in bullet time).  As a team their defense has intercepted the ball 15 times and they do appear to be the strongest on either side of the ball.

 Thursday’s Tiger Balm Application

The midseason breakdown signifies that half of the season is done and the playoff races can now begin to heat up. Most teams have actually contacted me thus far, but in order to get more people to send me their thoughts, wishes and overall good juju, I am promising a shiny bell pepper (capsicum for those more civilized) to the best email of the week. So please do email me at [email protected] and your soups will thank you.  You can tweet me @PeezeFPF but be prepared, winners in this category will only receive 140 characters worth of bell pepper. For the past two seasons I reminded everyone of Sarah Conner’s take on pre-determination: “There’s no fate but what we make for ourselves.” It was good, so I’m recycling it.
Week after week Terry Tam and I hang out throw some ideas around and make your women swoon.  Catch all the action, live at www.theunclehood.com at 8:00 PM eastern standard time.  If you just want to hear the sweet sounds of our voices the podcasts are available via iTunes or at http://fpf.podomatic.com. And remember, singularity is real and on the horizon.
