Offensive Explosion in Week 5 Has Defenses Scratching Their Heads
What’s up FPF!? Hope you’re all doing well. It’s starting to feel like summer out there. You can just feel it. Big news in the NFL with the releases of D Hop and Dalvin Cook. Two players that have more left in the tank than most realize. As a Dolphins fan, I’d love to see Cook with Miami next season. I can’t help but feel he’ll fit the system perfectly. Miami needs a more consistent ground game to help take some pressure off Tua. Hopkins is still one of the best receivers in football. I see him joining a championship contender. Like maybe the Chiefs??? That wouldn’t be fair tho.
The Heat have their work cut out for them now, needing to win 3 straight games. One game at a time boys. Butler, if you’re reading this, stop kicking the ball out and attack the damn basket. Gotta give credit to the Nuggets. They play great team basketball. Jokić has the softest touch around the rim I think I’ve ever seen. Can’t remember the last time I saw a player hit shots as consistently as he does. Pretty incredible. When Murray gets going there’s not much that can be done to stop him. He’s a walking talking bucket. All that being said, Heat in 7??????
Reactions and Ramblings from week 5
I saw the second half of The Rude Saks 22-20 victory over West Island Boys. Really good game with a lot of intensity from both sides. It had a playoff-like atmosphere to it. West Island boys were missing Skylar Bayliff in this game, but still put up a great fight. They got a touchdown late in the game and then went for 2 and the tie, but came up unsuccessful. There was a good little battle going on between QB Raffi Bastadijan and rusher Julian McLaren-Thompson. Julian finished with 3 sacks in the game. Raffi was doing his best at not forcing the ball downfield if nothing was there.
In a battle of 2 undefeated teams, Idaho Udapimps and Bandits squared off on Monday night. I threw in the game for Idaho Udapimps as Brady Ohanessian was dealing with a linger injury. This was a fun one. The game was tight throughout but we controlled most of the it. This is where I give Bandits a lot of credit for staying in the game. Down 39-30 with a few minutes left the Bandits scored a touchdown to make it 39-36. They went for the onside attempt and executed it perfectly. The Bandits scored a touchdown with 5 plays left to regain the lead. With 4 plays left their defense stood tall and sealed the victory. Émile Skaf was patient and mature with the football. He took what the defense gave him and fit the ball in tight windows.
Was surprised to see Born in the 80’s beat Save The Turtles by 33 points! They picked off Sébastien Noël 4 times in the game.
Something very strange happened when Friends with Danny played Blues on Thursday night. The Blues were only 5 players in the game. Avery Klimas, their QB, got tossed for 10 plays leaving the Blues with only 4 players. While you cannot start a game with only 4 players, playing with 4 in this situation was allowed. Not only did the mighty 4 for the Blues keep the game close, they also scored a 40 yard TD! I had to do a double take. Their TD came with no defender within 10 yards of Blues’ receiver Ben Denis. Not sure if there’s ever been a team with 4 players that scored a TD in a FPF game before. Pretty impressive. Friends with Danny did end up winning the game 40-32. This game leaves me with more questions than answers for Friends with Danny, however. Why was the game so close? how did their defense give up 32 points?
The Penetrators and DNE were in a high scoring affair this week. The Penetrators won 45-37. It seemed every time I looked over Nicholas Fon was catching a fly route for a TD. He finished the game with 3 receptions, 109 yards, and 3 tuddies. The deep ball was there the entire game for QB Justin Goodman. He had only 13 completions but threw for 7 TDs and 240 yards! It was nice to see DNE put up points on offense. Nick Richard has wheels. He ran for 73 yards on 3 attempts. While DNE played a solid game, they will need to find a way to pick up that first win ASAP. The Penetrators sit at 3-1. I like where they’re headed.
In their last 4 games, Big Fat Bats have scored 46, 42, 55, and 48 points respectively. What the actual heck?
If you didn’t already know, Blitz Sisters are a team of all women. They still have yet to get their first win of the season, but have looked more than competitive in their games. Laurence Pontbriand is a headache for opponents. Almost every time I catch a bit of her games, she’s scoring a long bomb TD and making it look easy. She has 5 TDs in 5 games. I expect her TD total to be in double digits by the season’s end.
Frederic Juneau and Guillaume Dufresne had themselves a game for Les Bleue Dry. Juneau completed 11 passes, 7 of them going for touchdowns! Dufresne had 3 of those touchdowns on 5 receptions for 155 yards!
Studz r us and Dilf Gang came down to the last play of the game. Tied at 13 with the ball at Studz r us’ 8 yard line, Dilf Gang decided to go double quarterback. Vaughn Vanslet and Joey Notaro played catch for a few seconds and then Notaro took off and ran it in for the game winning TD! The game ended with some controversy as the defense thought they deflagged Notaro before reaching the end zone. Nonetheless that was the game and Dilf Gang improved to 2-2.
Game Previews
Every Inch Counts (4-2) VS Big Fat Bats (5-1)
Two of the top teams in all of Division D will face off this Thursday in Laval. Going into this game it’s tough to determine who has the edge. Big Fat Bats have been on an absolute tear, while Every Inch Counts just put up 60 points in their last game. If I had to do a point spread I’d say the Bats are favoured by 5.5. This is a statement game for Every Inch Counts. They are 4-2 and now have the opportunity to beat a great team. In their last game against an elite team, they lose 31-13 to Les Petites Carottes.
In order for the boys in dark green to bull off the upset, Mathew Yanakoulias will need to play his best game of the season. Yes, even better than his last game. One pick, bad throw, miscommunication with a receiver can cost them the game. Defensively for Every Inch Counts, the game plan is very very simple. Stop AJ Zeppetelli. He has 11 touchdowns in 6 games. Whenever Big Fat Bats need a big play the ball goes to him. Stopping him may not be realistic, but he can’t go for over 80 yards and 2+ TDs if Every Inch Counts wants to win. Defense may not win championships in flag, but Ryan McNally is certainly making the case that it can. McNally has 7 interceptions in 5 games. Yanakoulias may wanna think twice about throwing his way.
I love the depth on Every Inch Counts. Lerner, Migdesyan, Kritselas. All of them can make plays on both sides of the ball. It’ll be mainly up to these 3 to make Matthew Zeppetelli uncomfortable early in the game. If they can’t do that or at least fluster him a little, Big Fat Bats will have another 40+ point scoring game.
This has the potential to be the game of the year. Now, who to pick… I am not betting against Matthew Zeppetelli and this offense.
Score Prediction: Big Fat Bats win 46-40
