Mama, we Made it! Playoffs! Get your popcorn ready!
Do you feel that? Do you smell that? Can you taste that? I certainly do. It’s a feeling that only comes to a select few (24 actually this year) season after season. It doesn’t matter how you got to the dance. The point is YOU ARE AT THE FRICKIN DANCE. The real season starts right now. All records get thrown out the window. Thanks to Bearskins, Never Overtime, Air Force 1, EZW, and Backyard Bullies on the fun season! Hope to see you guys back this Spring. For the 24 teams that are still alive, congrats, you are one step closer to crowning yourself division 3 champions. My best advice come playoff time is always quite simple. Play with your heart, it’ll never let you down.
Une Phrase Bien Fournie take down Speed Academy yesterday to grab the last playoff spot! They won 32-31 in an incredible back and forth game. Talk about clutch! They’ll be taking on Greendale Human Beings tonight at Loyola.
Silent Ticklers and Blackouts were out there throwing haymakers at each other last Saturday night. The game finished in a 48-48 tie. This was the Blackouts team I was expecting from the get-go. They got ex-Concordia star James Tyrell to sub in this game. He had 4 TDs on 195 yards and 11 receptions. For Silent Ticklers it was Daniel Mancini leading the way with 3 TDs of his own and 119 yards. These are the type of games I love! Great game for both teams to get them playoff ready.
That’s What She Said’s defense strikes again. They picked off Nic Schaefer 4 times en route to their 31-19 victory over Mangoose. Their defense ends the season with an incredible 27 interceptions. Schaefer has been having a great year but looked frazzled in this one. A testament to that defense. Both teams finish off the regular season at 7-3 and get a bye. April 12th can’t come soon enough for them!
Congrats to Silent Ticklers, Mongoose, Les Gros Coqs, Mangoose, Blue’s Clues, That’s What She Said, Preach, and ALPHA DOGS, you have received a bye. Your next games will be played in the Divisional Playoffs on April 12th.
Buzzer beater to advance to the championship game. Doesn’t get much better for Lamont Butler and the San Diego State Aztecs. What a game! San Diego State will play Uconn tomorrow for all the marbles. I got the Uconn winning 76-68. I’m going to tape the game as I’m at Hebert playing a division 4 game tomorrow night, no spoilers!!!
Top 3 Most Intriguing Playoff Matchups This Week (From 3rd most to most intriguing)
3) Green Munchs vs KGP Ra
I’m excited for this game for several reasons. One of them being that both teams have been consistently inconsistent this season. I wanna know which Green Munchs and KGP Ra teams will show up. I think this will be a high scoring game. First to 40 points wins. KGP Ra have not had a hard time putting up points but their defense has not done them any favours. They will need to be aware and ready for Antoine Ouimet‘s deep shots downfield. A key for Green Munchs will be setting the tone early. I don’t think they can afford to be down multiple possessions against a team like KGP Ra.
2) The Infantry vs Blue Chips
This one promises to be an intense high energy game. I can see points coming at a premium. Both defenses have that quick ability to diagnose a play and jump routes. For Blue Chips, I gotta assume Sanders Armand will be QB in this game, but don’t rule out Jordan Mitchell taking reps at QB either. It’s tough to say who the better team is. The Infantry are more well rounded and experienced, but I think Blue Chips have the bigger playmakers. This is one of the bigger clichés in sports, but I do think it will come down to who wants it more. It’ll be a tight game and my gut tells me it’s gonna go to overtime.
1) Junkyard Dogs Vs Blackouts
The last time these two teams met was a week before the Super Bowl. It was a game for the ages, as they say. JYD won 42-40. I expect a very similar score today. Both teams have an abundance of stars. Don’t be surprised to see a multitude of 40 yard TDs being scored. One of the oldest sayings in FPF is that it’s a game of converts. Nothing will be more true in this game. It will be a tight game decided by less than a possession. Converts are where it’s at. For JYD to keep their season alive, Jason Rossie will need to distribute the ball efficiently to his receivers. They have depth for days and will need to exemplify that tonight. Which defense will make the first big play? That’s the million dollar question.
Lingering Thoughts on Other Games
Can Les Verges Folles pull off the upset against G.I.H.F.?
Well, they did beat them 26-6 in week 1. That was a while ago and G.I.H.F has been on a roll since. They’ll need a perfect game from QB Thomas-Charles Paradis in order to win. Shawn Lafortune will need to come up big, as he has all season. He’s gonna need to score at least 2 TDs. For Les Verges Folles they’ll need to trust their eyes on defense. See ball, get ball. Shoot gaps and don’t make life easy on Ben McMahon. Tough to beat a team twice. Let’s see what Les Verges Folles got.
Will Les Maloudes win their 4th straight game?
They take on Free Smoke 1 tonight at Lachine. Anton Sakiz has been exactly what this team needed. His skill and leadership has these boys on a high. There’s no doubt Free Smoke 1 are the more athletic team. Les Maloudes will need to rely on their experience and smarts to limit Free Smoke 1’s big plays. One thing is for sure for Free Smoke 1, they cannot afford to start this game slow. Once Les Maloudes are up, they are extremely difficult to beat.
Will Chris Rivest or Alex Fafard make the first mistake?
The Stoics are playing Beer Belly Brigade tonight. Neither team or QB puts the ball in harms way. Most throws are either to their receivers or nobody. Quick analyses, first team with a pick on defense will win. That simple.
