Like It or Not-Week 8
As another week here at FPF hits the history books, unfortunately for some, so does their team. Week seven was scared with no shows. I can’t wrap my mind around how some individuals can be so disrespectful, and lack such empathy towards other people. Worst-case scenario, if your team can’t get the money together for the season, WARN THE LEAGUE! Don’t ignore your problems and push them under a rug. LAZY BUT TALENTED stole Oceans Seven’s Saturday night, and there is no excuse for such stupidities. Future reference for anyone part taking in this league: make sure you can afford it!
Headlines:
- Big win for VPC over Sandlot Saints 45-39. Although the Saints looked to be sitting comfortably in the drivers seat for most of the game, a late hiccup by Guy Laflamme cost them the game. Who else but Robbie Robinson to turn the tables and secure another divisional game for VPC. Mathieu Lepage had his best career receiving game with 112 yards on 6 receptions and a pair of touchdowns. Ex-Montreal’s Finest Zan Symonds had 3 touchdowns on 5 receptions to push VPC to victory. The Saints now have a tough road ahead to get a seat into the playoffs. Luckily for them their last two opponents have zero wins combined. VPC is one win away from securing their seat to the playoffs.
- 25-25 was the final score to my game of the week between Big TDs and The Commission. I had predicted a 26-22 win for Big Tds who continue to surprise me. This tie is huge for both these teams. They both could not afford to lose, but the 1 point was sufficient to keep them very close and give them hope. They are currently sitting at 9th and 10th in the rankings. A win combined with other teams losses could easily propel them into the dance. Big TDs has to beat the struggling F.T.W this week and step their game up against their last two opponents (#NoRegard, Les Eudiste). As for The Commission, they’re running into a couple hot teams. They face B.D. Bandits this week, fresh off their first loss of the season and looking for redemption. The following week they face The Incredibles who just handed the Bandits their first loss. The Commission ends the season against Usual Suspects: enough said. Win 2 of the last three and beg for mercy!
- Clockwork answers the bell! This week Jamal Gittens of Clockwork was accusing me of not giving them enough light and perhaps over doing it with other teams. I told him to beat a top 10 team and or be better, and promised to mention them if they did. This week Clockwork brought the hammer down on Mongoose beating them 41-14. I obviously lit a fire in Gittens who had a pair of touchdowns and 77 receiving yards on 4 receptions, and a sack on defense. Quite a defensive effort from Clockwork holding Mongoose to a total of 100 yards on offense. Marco Masciotra continues his all-star ways with a stellar performance at quarterback; 239 yards and 6 touchdowns is not too shabby. (Masciotra let me know when you need me to light another fire). Mongoose has 3 divisional games left which look like “must win games”; the race is too tight to drop divisional games. Clockwork looks comfortable in the standings, as they should be. Their last 3 opponents have a combined record of 3-17-1.
- Bruizers take another one on the chin, losing 32-24 to Legends. This was a due or die for Bruizers falling to 2-5 stacks the odds against them. Bruizer’s end of season is going to be as tough, as tough can be, with Certified Flyguys, VPC and Les Buddays on deck. Legends continue their streaky season and now sit in 6th place in conference B. Corey Pecker must have had wings on this night for he seemed to be everywhere. He completed 20 passes for 166 yards and 4 touchdowns, and also had a defensive interception, six tackles and 3 pass defended. Notable mention for Maxime Giroux who had 8 receptions for 104 and 2 touchdowns in a losing effort. Three things you have to do to win against Legends.: 1) match up size against their center in red zone. 2) always have an eye on Eric Rapps, and 3) contain and minimize Peckers time in the pocket.
- The Incredibles serve the B.D. Bandits their first loss 26-19. The Incredibles have yet to lose with Terrance Morsink at quarterback. Since their week 4 loss to Legends, the Incredibles have only allowed an average of 18 points per game on defense. Unfortunately for the Bandits, they loss a couple soldiers to injuries in this game. Losing Steve Sanner on defense is not easy to replace but Mark Belvedere was up to the challenge, making a key forth down stop in the red zone and a huge interception at the end of the game which gave the bandits a shot at victory. Liam Mahoney’s second interception of the game put an end to all hopes of continuing their perfect season. Morsink’s stats don’t do him justice at all. There must have been a dozen dropped balls in this game. No worries for B.D. Bandits, although this was a divisional game, the road to the play offs is paved and down hill until week 10.
- Impressive game from Alex Lever who led Prestige World Wide to victory against Hoof Hearted. The absence of Timothy Godber looked obvious for Hoof Hearted who was unable to find someone to carry the load he usually carries. Lever threw 4 of his 7 touchdowns to JS Gradowski. Laver also had an interception on defense along with a sack. Chris Niphakis pulling some weight on my fantasy team had 105 yards receiving and a pair of touchdowns on 9 receptions. Unfortunately for Hoof Hearted, when you average 33 points against per game, turning the ball over 4 times will set you up for failure. Prestige now sits in second place in conference B with a perfect divisional record of 4-0; one more win and you’ll be safe for the playoffs. Hoof Hearted on the other hand now falls to 8th in conference B and taking on the hot KGP Champs who have only lost 1 in their last 5.
- It was a heart breaking game for Moose who lost to AJ’s Fight Club. Angelo Kalaidopoulos had some big turnovers to give his offence the ball late in the second half. James Floreani had a field day with Craig O’Brien. Floreani caught three 40 bombs to steal the show! For the Moose, our very own Paolo Della Rocca broke a six game drought by catching his second touchdown of the season. Mike Addona tried to put his team on the map with a pick 6, but it wasn’t enough. Both teams are still very much in the race for the playoffs. AJ’s Fight Club will have their hands full with The Incredibles next week. As for Moose, they are taking on The Usual Suspects who are fresh off their first win of the year.
Players Awards:
-Keep in mind any player who plays a higher division is not legible for awards in Div3. This is my opinion alone. I do not get a say in who wins what! I rank you based on stats, and your influence on the team (i.e. how would your team look without you?).

Top 3 Freaks of Week 3:
QB-Craig O’Brien (AFC)- 17 Completions for 272 yards and 6 Touchdowns! I’d make you my super Freak if you hadn’t thrown 3 INT’s! Freakish nonetheless!
WR-James Floreani (AFC)- 3 Receptions for 120 yards and 3 Touchdowns! Finally bringing the lower Div freakiness!
DB-Marc-Andre Paradis (EUD)- 4 tackles and a hat trick of interceptions! Making a stand for defensive player of the year, he must be a FREAK!
R- Maxim Massicotte (GEG)- 4 sacks! More then doubling his season total; that’s a FREAK effort I love seeing from rushers.

My Week 8 Game of the Week:
(KGP Champs 5th VS Hoof Hearted 8th)
Both teams are in Conference B, which makes this game a huge divisional rivalry. A loss for either one of these teams would cripple their chances for contention. Neither team can afford a fourth loss and a divisional record of 2-2.
Key match-ups in this game:
- D vs D – Currently the only teams to have allowed more points against then Hoof hearted are the teams with no wins, and MOOSE. As for KGP they are in the top five teams when it comes to points against. The turnovers are identical for both teams at 11. The major difference is in passes defended; 21 for KGP compared to 11 for Hoof Hearted. Passes defended stats are usually ironically misleading, so I don’t read too much into that. I give a slight advantage to KGP since they have shown the ability to give up fewer points, further giving their offense a chance to play for the win.
- O vs O – KGP has 214 PF, for an average of 31PPG vs Hoof Hearted 218 PF, for the same average of 31 PPG. 31 points per game is not a bad average, and it’s certainly not alarming. It becomes a problem when you can’t cover your average points against, which is the case for Hoof Hearted. Decision making for the QB’s is going to be the key. Calling the right plays at the right times and making the appropriate reads to drive the field without turning the ball over is going to make the difference. At the same time, the person calling the plays on defense is going to play a huge role in derailing the opposing offence.
- Shoshan vs Cutler – To elaborate on what I previously noted, their ability to eat up the field without getting greedy will be difference. There are few quarterbacks who have the ability to stay collected through adversity. You need to stay on top of your game when everything is telling you to throw the game plan out the window. It’s the quarterback that will not take any unnecessary selfish risk that will set their team up for success. Both defenses have what it takes to rattle your quarterbacks, but history has proven Shoshan is more likely to make a bad decision than Cutler. If you take both quarterbacks’ stats in their last 8 seasons in FPF, Shoshan has thrown 28 more interceptions then Cutler. Cutler has also thrown 21 more touchdowns then Shoshan. This season Shoshan has already thrown 5 more interceptions then Cutler, and 1 touchdown less. I strongly lean towards Cutler’s ability to make the appropriate reads to march the field to victory.
- Studs vs Studs – KGP (Francois Deslauriers, Timothy Godber, Chris Niphakis) vs HOH (Sean Brophy, Fred Saleh, Phil Clark). I would take either package on any given day. The mix of size, speed and hunger for the ball makes both trios a hand full for any defense. The difference is the supporting cast around the trios. KGP’s Jospeh Hopmeyer and Ben Wilner combine for 184 yards and 2 touchdowns. Hoof Hearted’s Jonathan Brown, Avi Yayon, and G.M Kolethras combince for over 300 yards and 10 touchdowns. When it comes down to depth, Hoof Hearted hands down take the medal. My question is: does depth matter week 8 of regular season? My answer: No, we play for an hour. If your top six is better then my top six and we both go hard for the whole hour with the ability to maintain our level of play, I don’t care about your depth.
Key Players: Timothy Godber and Sean Brophy
My prediction: KGP Champs 36 Hoof Hearted 28
