Legends in the Making: Sharks vs. Primal – The Battle for Division C Glory
Spring 2023 Div C Finals!
As the Division C playoffs nears its Final game of the season, two exceptional teams are set to clash in the highly anticipated finals on night 1. The stage is set for a captivating showdown between the Sharks and Primal, as they vie for the ultimate glory and the honour of being crowned champions. In the Semi-Finals, the Sharks showcased their dominant form as they went head-to-head against the Backyard Bullies. The Sharks’ relentless offence and exceptional performance by Dynamic Duo Corey Walwaski and Quaysie Gordon-Maule, led them to a convincing victory, securing a 34-20 win. This dominant display proved why they deserve their place in the finals. A lot of talk in the beginning of this season from the podcast crew indicating that Corey Walwaski is too talented to throw in this division and after playing against him and playing on a second team in div B this season, Corey has the talent to throw in higher divisions, I believe his rating will catch up with him and well be able to see Corey throwing in Div 1 and 2 soon enough. On the other side of the bracket, the #1 seeded Dime and Bougie faced an unexpected and gritty challenge from this years dark horse underdog, Primal. Primal’s unyielding determination and remarkable performances resulted in a dramatic upset, with Primal emerging victorious with a razor-thin 25-24 scoreline. Their journey as the #11 seed has been nothing short of inspirational, defying all odds and leaving a trail of stunned opponents in their path. Now, the stage is set for an epic encounter between the tenacious Sharks and a resilient Primal team in the Division C Finals. It’s a tale of two teams with opposite paths, as the Sharks aim to continue their dominant run and clinch the championship title, while Primal seeks to etch their underdog story in FPF history by upsetting yet another higher-seeded team. Both teams will have to leave it all on the floor and leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of championship glory.
Semi Finals Recap
Backyard Bullies get bullied by Sharks
In a high-octane Semi-Finals showdown, the Sharks asserted their dominance over the Backyard Bullies, leaving an unforgettable mark in the FPF playoffs with a commanding 34-20 victory. Until the final whistle, the Sharks showcased their skill and superiority, led by their star quarterback, Corey Walwaski, who once again delivered a stellar performance. Corey Walwaski proved to be the heart and soul of the Sharks’ offense, orchestrating plays with masterful precision and pocket presece. His arm was on fire as he confidently threw for five touchdowns, leaving the Bullies’ defense scrambling to contain his accurate throws. What was equally impressive was Corey’s flawless decision-making, as he did not give the Bullies any opportunities for interceptions throughout the game. However, it wasn’t just Corey who stole the show for the Sharks. Quasie, a standout player for the team, made a significant impact on both sides of the field. On offense, he proved to be a touchdown-scoring machine, finding the end zone three times and adding valuable points to the scoreboard. On the defensive front, Quasie showcased his versatility and athleticism, securing a crucial interception that further solidified the Sharks’ dominance. Their relentless offensive onslaught made it an uphill battle for the Backyard Bullies to mount a comeback. On the other side of the field, the absence of starting QB Sean Avraam for the Backyard Bullies proved to be a significant setback. His backup, Rich Humes, found himself facing the Sharks defensive pressure and threw three costly interceptions. The Bullies fought valiantly, but they couldn’t match the intensity and mistake free football displayed by the Sharks on both ends of the field. For the Sharks every player on the roster stepped up, contributing to a collective triumph that showcased their championship-caliber potential. As the final whistle blew, the Sharks celebrated their well-deserved victory, advancing to the FPF Division C Finals with their heads held high. With Corey Walwaski’s exceptional quarterbacking and Quasie’s multifaceted brilliance, the Sharks have established themselves as the team to beat, raising expectations for an unforgettable championship clash.

The showdown left everyone on the edge of their seats as Primal pulled off a stunning upset, defeating Dime and Bougie by the narrowest of margins, 25-24. Finals Preview
Sharks (7-3) Vs Primal (5-4-1)
As the two teams are set to collide in the Div C Finals, this matchup promises to be a clash of talent, heart, and perseverance. The Sharks will seek to continue their dominant run with Corey Walwaski leading the charge, while Primal, led by Jared Buck are determined to complete their underdog story with a championship triumph. Both teams have faced their share of challenges as both team have experienced losing, and tonight’s game will be a test of character, showcasing the true essence of FPF football. The key battle between the Sharks’ high-powered offense and Primal’s defense. Led by top quarterback, Corey Walwaski, the Sharks’ offense has been a top 3 offence all season long. Corey’s exceptional arm talent, pin point passing have allowed him to operate a high-scoring attack that can dismantle even the toughest defenses with ease. With five touchdowns and zero interceptions in the Semi-Finals, Corey showcased his ability to deliver under pressure. As a pocket passer Corey works through the pocket and finds time by lining up further than most QB’s. Rushers barely disrupt Corey and I think just like the bullies Primal won’t be able to put much pressure on Corey. Complementing Corey’s brilliance is the versatile Quasie Gordon-Maule, one of the best skill players for Sharks. His ability to make difficult catches and explosive speed, poses a constant threat to opposing defensive backs. Primal will have their hands full trying to contain Quasie’s dynamic playmaking and limit his impact on the game. While Primal’s defense has faced an average of 33 points against throughout the season, they have shown remarkable resilience and growth since Jared Buck took over as quarterback. Their ability to adapt and adjust their defensive strats has been evident in their recent victories. In their last meeting Primal was defeated 45-20 by the sharks all the way back in week 1 where Jared Buck was not under center. I think this game will be different from their previous match as a much closer game awaits us. With an atmosphere charged with excitement, Cameras, fans and annoucers set, this Division C Finals promises to be a thrilling event of skill, big plawith everything on the line. My mind tells me that the sharks still have the better team and should have no problem taking down Primal but their story is too good not to hop on a hope for yet another stunning upset in Div C, so here it is. Primal 42-41 as the game comes down to a 2-point convert for the win where the Sharks are unable to convert.
Top players to Watch
Quaysie Gordon-Maule
As the Division C Finals approach, all eyes will be on the Sharks’ dynamic playmaker, Quasie Gordon-Maule. Excelling in both offense and defense, Quasie has been a standout performer throughout the season, showcasing his exceptional football skill and versatility on the field. His ability earned him my early prediction for 2-Way Player of the Year award, and the playoffs have only reinforced his status as a top player to watch in tonight’s Finals. As a receiver, Quasie possesses a natural flair for making tough catches look effortless. His hands seem to possess a magnetic pull, consistently snatching the ball out of the air, even in the most challenging situations. Equipped with incredible speed and agility, he turns routine catches into electrifying plays, often leaving defenders grasping at thin air as he evades their pursuit after the catch. Quasie’s ability to turn short passes into explosive gains has been a driving force behind the Sharks’ high-octane offense. However, Quasie’s contributions aren’t limited to offense alone. As a defensive back, he demonstrates an innate understanding of the game and a keen eye for reading plays. His anticipation and quick reflexes allow him to break up passes and make crucial interceptions, disrupting the opposing team’s offensive rhythm. His presence in the secondary has been instrumental in shutting down opposing receivers and bolstering the Sharks’ defense. Throughout the playoffs, Quasie has raised his game to new heights, proving his worth as a two-way force on the field. His performances have been nothing short of spectacular, capturing the attention and stacking up post season stats. In tonight’s Finals, expect Quasie Gordon-Maule to leave an indelible mark as he continues to show his exceptional skills to lead the Sharks to victory. As the spotlight shines brightly on the Division C Finals, keep a keen eye on this exceptional talent. Quasie Gordon-Maule’s extraordinary ability to impact the game on both sides of the ball promises to add an exciting dimension to the championship battle.
Jared Buck
Another key player to watch in the upcoming final will be Jared Buck, the quarterback who has orchestrated Primal’s astonishing turnaround. Joining the team around Week 3, Jared has been nothing short of a revelation, transforming the struggling squad into a strong force to be reckoned with. Primal’s record speaks volumes of Jared’s impact, as they stand at a remarkable 8-2-1 with him at the helm, including their impressive playoff run. Jared’s on-field leadership and communication as a quarterback have been the driving force behind Primal’s resurgence. Including his decision-making and ability to read defences with finesse have been second to none, setting him apart as a true field general. From the moment he stepped into the role, Jared’s seamless integration with the team has resulted in a cohesive offensive unit that executes offensive drives and plays with precision. One of Jared’s greatest assets lies in his incredible arm talent. With each game, he has demonstrated the ability to unleash accurate and powerful throws, threading the needle with ease and finding his targets in tight coverage. His 14 touchdown passes and 600 passing yards in just three games are a testament to his ability to turn any play into a scoring opportunity for Primal. His keen flag football IQ allows him to anticipate the strategies of opposing defences, enabling him to make split-second decisions that consistently move the chains and keep Primal’s offense marching forward. As the Finals loom on the horizon, Jared Buck will undoubtedly be the player to watch for Primal. If they aspire to claim the championship title, they will need their quarterback to be at his absolute best and play his best game of the season. The stage is set for Jared to lead his team to greatness and complete this historic underdog run that primal is on as we all eagerly await the spectacle that is sure to unfold in the Papineau stadium tonight.
Lastly in the Division C Finals, all eyes will be on the versatile and tenacious Valery Shelder, the electrifying wide receiver and defensive back for Primal. Though his regular season may not have been filled with overwhelming stats, Shelder’s true worth goes beyond numbers. Having played alongside him in Division B this season, I can honestly say this guy is a Dog. As he steps onto the grand stage tonight, Shelder carries the potential to make history, aiming to clinch not one, not two, but three FPF championships this spring. Earlier today, he celebrated victory in the Co-ed 3 category, and now, he seeks to add two more accolades to his already impressive resume. On defense, Shelder’s greatest asset is his blinding speed, which allows him to run hip-to-hip with opposing receivers. His exceptional cover skills make him a nightmare for quarterbacks looking to target their primary options. When it comes to shutting down deep threats, Shelder’s agility and anticipation give him an edge that few can match. If the Sharks dare to test him deep tonight, don’t be surprised to see Shelder coming away with an interception, providing Primal with the precious gift of an extra possession. Moreover, Shelder’s contributions on offense should not be underestimated. As a wide receiver, he has demonstrated the ability to create separation with explosive bursts of speed and precision route running. His presence as a reliable target in the passing game adds an element of unpredictability to Primal’s offensive attack. But perhaps what sets Shelder apart is his relentless work ethic and the determination to leave it all on the field. His unmatched drive to compete and win makes him a true “dog”, embodying the heart and soul of a fierce competitor.
