Inside the Redzone (Div C) – Week 7
So I guess I was wrong about the Titans in making a playoff run, especially after they lost a crucial game to the Darkhorses. They’re still mathematically eligible for playoffs but will probably need to win out and I personally don’t see that happening. However, kudos to the Darkhorses for putting themselves in prime position to be in the post-season. The playoff picture is slowly shaping up and it is fairly obvious who will miss the playoffs in both conferences. The question now is will any of the bottom cellar teams have Cinderella run in the playoffs? Do teams like Darhorses, Vicious Canucks, Primetime and Briscoe High Hawks have what it takes to take out the top dog? I’ll break that down next week.
Around The League
Chaos had a big win over BOOM! Goes The Dynamite in what was a statement game for the former. I know I keep hyping them up every week but trust me, believe the hype! They don’t have many weaknesses and now it appears Jason Edwards is returning and will be qualified for the playoffs. So provided everyone is healthy and present, they are my pick to go to the finals.
Cobras are shows of mediocrity after having an incredible start. Granted they are still 3-2-2, but they were just embarrassed at the hands of Fools Of The Country and now are minus 19 in point differential. No disrespect to the Cobras but they have to wake up and play better football. They’re pretty much in the playoffs however with three games remaining, they have to start gathering some sort of momentum.
Those Guys won without the services of Ryan Perry, who is currently injured, thanks in large part to their defense. Cody Hemsley had a horrible game, he was 9-16 for 46 yards with only TD and THREE INTERCEPTIONS; lucky for him he has legs because he ran for two TDs. He is even more lucky the defense had two pick sixes. I am still not sold on this young man because I believe the potential is there however he is not structured enough. If he had to lead his team in a two minute drill (or 5 plays in FPF), will he be able to take his team to the promise land?
Last, how good are the Trojans? Well they have Vinny Gualano but more important, their team chemistry is now at an all-time high. At 5-1-1, they might be the only team in their conference to contend against FOTC. Hmm wait a minute, they actually play FOTC this weekend. So now we will find out just how good the Trjoans really are. The game is at 9 pm so there shouldn’t be player absences due to outdoor touch tournament. This is the game of the week and I can’t wait to see it.
Weekly Poll
Before I can get to it, here are last week’s poll results:
Question: Will the Cobras be called “garbage” for four straight weeks?
Answer: Well they were called garbage by Matthew Young of Lobster Dinner but as a joke, I hope. So the streak has come to an end.
Here is this week’s poll question:
Who is the best dressed player in Division C?
**Please email me your responses (provided below) **
Sarwar Standings
1. Fools Of The Country (7-0) – Can they remain undefeated with only three games remaining?
2. Lobster Dinner (6-1) – A big game against a resurging BHH team this Sunday, a rivalry between Matt Young and Garrett Taylor will be renewed.
3. Trojans (5-1-1) – This team looks like they’re destined for greatness, especially after a huge win over KGP.
4. Those Guys (5-2) – They do find ways to win so for now I’ll leave them here.
5. Chaos (5-2) – Starting to feel comfortable and getting hot at the right time and with a win over Those Guys, they can jump up to fourth.
6. Mysterious & Magical Men of Terror (5-2) – An average Div C team who is doing what they should be.
7. Broccasion (4-3) – Still need to work on their depth.
8. KGP Champs (4-2-1) – A loss to the Trojans drops them in standings and brings them back down to Earth.
9. Cobras (3-2-2) – As I wrote before, they haven’t been playing their best football lately so it’s time for a wake up call.
10. Terror Squad (4-3) – An exciting win over Primetime lands them at the last spot in the rankings.
Grinds My Gears
You know what really grinds my gears, players who give preference to Touch Football. Yea I get it, it’s fun to get out in the sun and play some football while competing against some of the best in your talent pool. However would you rather play in the best flag football league in Canada or travel to some part of Ontario where you’ll be embarrassed by ex-pro athletes? Having said that, are you going to get some sun and drink? Can’t you do that on the beach? The bottom line is FPF provides an indoor facility that keeps from protected from the harmful UV Rays and gives you a chance to play football on a small field so you can compete (as oppose to those giant touch football fields in which you have to use speed). Furthermore there is a nice bar if that’s your thing along with a small canteen to buy food. So whatever your needs might be, FPF has you covered. And that my friends, is what grinds my gears.
That’s it for this week’s column. As usual if you have any comments/suggestions, email me at [email protected]. I leave you with the following quote:
“I got flagged for telling the ref and I quote “ref that was flag guarding”.. 5yards and 3plays out………CMON MAN!” – Ara Ekmekdjian of Point Point.
