Inside the Redzone (Div C) – Week 4

It has come to my attention that there are a few players in Division C who are looking to show their “toughness” in FlagPlus Football. Need I remind you that you are playing in a recreational FLAG (not tackle) league, designed to have fun with some wholesome competition. Furthermore, I have been advised that ESPN, TSN and NFL Network that they are in fact are not watching you play. Therefore I suggest that if you would like to channel your anger and frustration, please join the UFC and show us all your raw strength. If that is out of reach, I will be more than happy to set up a five minute cage-match with Jamaal Pierre to show you what’s what. Either way, I can assure you that all your stress will disappear. Having said that, I remind everyone this is a recreational league and we’re here to have fun while being competitive in a respectful manner. Now let’s look at what is happening in the world of Division C.

Around The League

Congratulations to Vicious Canucks for getting their first win. I know the entire team is very relieved because sometimes the first one is the hardest. Will this be a momentum changer for their season? As much as I would like to say, yes, I will have to say, no. They beat a Vikings team who clearly is having a rough season themselves so they will have to prove to the rest of Division C that they’re for real. Lucky for them, they have a chance this Sunday to do just that because they will face Those Guys.

Just how good is Lobster Dinner? Very, very good. They are undefeated at 4-0 and it appears that they might go 10-0. Who would have thought that Lobster Dinner with some DIP will be a recipe for a success, but that is exactly the case. A lot credit also goes to Jonathan Brown who is doing a good job rolling that offense, but the real story is their defense anchored by the DIP connection of Pablo Savard (2 INTs) and Henri Chelhot (6 sacks and a “pick six”). Last but not least, Matthew Young is proving to be a leader for his team on both sides of the ball. Therefore if Division C weren’t considering them to be contenders, THINK AGAIN!

Who is Kyle Lebofsky? He is making quite a name for himself and is turning some heads. Through four games, he has 229 yards receiving and 8 TDs (on pace for 20 TDs). Impressed? No? Well look at his defensive statistics: 21 tackles, 5 INTs (1 for TD) and 1 PD (Kyle won the D3 Defensive Player of the Year award this past winter). Right now he is the lead runner for the two-way player award but more important, he is putting Broccasion on the map. Can he continue to put some great numbers? Well one thing is for sure, The Big Lebofsky (TBL) watch has begun!

If any of you were looking for me to further comment on the incidents that occurred last Sunday involving Primetime/KGP Champs and Cobras/Trojans, I am very sorry to disappoint, I’d rather not waste my time or yours on these types of actions.

Weekly Poll

I asked two questions last week and here are the results:

Question: If you score a touchdown on the last play of the game and are down by 1 point, do you go for the: tie or win?

Winner: Most people voted for a tie, meaning there aren’t many ballsy players/teams in Div C.

Question: From the all winless teams, which team will be the last to get a win?

Winner: Sadly enough the answer was Vikings.

Here is this week’s poll question:

In regular season, if the score is tied at the end of regulation, the game ends in a tie. Should FlagPlus Football:

a. Keep it as is

b. Use playoff overtime format

c. Other ____________

**Please email me your responses (provided below) **

Sarwar Standings

1. Fools Of The Country (4-0) – Their offense is very lethal but they are tied for the best defense in Division C.

2. Lobster Dinner (4-0) – As mentioned above, the side order of DIP is taking this team to new heights.

3. Mysterious & Magical Men of Terror (3-1) – Matthew Bishara was a monster performer last week and as a result, his team is third.

4. Cobras (2-0-2) – They still haven’t lost so technically they are undefeated and their chemistry is getting better every week. They are tied with FOTC for the best defense in Division C.

5. Chaos (3-1) – Finally this team is playing like they should and I don’t see them slowing down anytime soon.

6. Terror Squad (3-1) – One lost to MMM thus far but they have a chance to leap frog in the power rankings as they play FOTC this Sunday.

7. Trojans (2-1-1) – A good outing against the Cobras show they’re a good team.

8. Broccasion (2-2) – After scoring 143 points (best in Div C), I have no clue why they’re only .500.

9. BOOM! Goes The Dynamite (2-2) – A loss to the Briscoe High Hawks, drops them down three spots in the rankings. I understand they were short benched but with the talent on their roster, there should no be problems getting wins.

10. Those Guys (2-2) – They haven’t won or lost two in a row so their inconsistency is placing them in the bottom order of the rankings.

Grinds My Gears

You know what really grinds my gears, the amount of ties that we have had after only four weeks of football. I can understand that maybe some players think the league should adopt the playoff overtime format for the regular season. However what about doing your part? Last week’s poll questions revealed that most teams in Division C would elect to go for 1 point at the end of the game to conserve the tie, rather than going for the win. That is precisely the problem. Where are everyone’s “balls”? Going for a tie? Do you also like to kiss your sister? Furthermore, teams should PRACTICE their convert plays because if I was to calculate the percentage of successful converts (whether 1 or 2 points), I can assure you that it would be in the low 20s. How pathetic! And that my friends, is what grinds my gears.
