Inside the Redzone (D4) – Week 8

 

In the words of Moe Khan, “What did I learn from last weekend?” I learned that although there was some drama surrounding the Time Bombs team regarding their roster, it pales in comparison to the drama that is present between the Triple Sixers and Warriors; you can read more about that later on in the article. It is more exciting to see teams such as Served With Ice, Gieuth, Sharks and BOOM! Goes The Dynamite do well and be in a position to upset the top dogs. With only one winless team (who still have one tie), Division 4 is looking good down the stretch and aside from the top two, there are no guarantees for any other teams. With three weeks left, let’s see who wants to win more and who can gut it out more.

Les Time Bombs en perdent finalement une!

Alors que tous avaient déjà la tête à l’affrontement de la semaine 10 entre les Warriors et les Times Bombs, ces derniers ont trébuché la semaine dernière contre Flight of the Concords. Comme le score de 39-18 l’indique, ce ne fut pas très joli non plus. Malgré la performance inspirée des négligés, le match s’est joué sur les lignes de côté où les Time Bombs, à leur plus grand désarroi, n’avaient que 6 joueurs en uniforme. Longue liste de blessés? Épidémie de grippe soudaine? Nos espions n’ont malheureusement pu recueillir de réponse alors que nous n’avons pu joindre Matt Young (capitaine et membre très médiatisé de Time Bombs) qui manque toujours à l’appel. Affichant maintenant un trait dans la colonne des défaites, les Time Bombs auront une semaine pour se préparer au duel de titans qui les opposera aux redoutables Warriors. Malgré le faux pas de la dernière semaine, l’équipe expérimentée de Matt Young devrait rebondir sans difficultés.

 

Une revanche, quelqu’un?

 

Les Warriors ont disposé de Guerillaz par le score de 25-6. Gino Di Fazio, qui n’a plus besoin de présentations, a exprimé son mécontentement à l’endroit de l’alignement de ses rivaux que bien des observateurs auraient placés en 3e division cette saison. De plus, le capitaine de Guerillaz a voulu lancer un défi à ses opposants les invitant à participer à une partie d’exhibition dans laquelle il reprendrait sa position de prédilection, quart-arrière. Bien que je doute de la faisabilité d’une telle revanche, il n’est pas impossible que les 2 équipes, qui œuvrent dans la même conférence, se recroisent durant les séries. Malheureusement pour les spectateurs, Gino ne pourra être le quart arrière en vertu des règlements de la ligue. L’intensité et l’enthousiasme démontré par Guerillaz lors de cette défaite pourrait enfin signifier leur réveil. Une équipe à surveiller.

 

Lost!

 

Si on prend le temps de jeter un coup d’œil au classement des équipes de la Conférence B, on risque fort de penser à la série culte Lost. Qui ne serait pas complètement mystifié par ces équipes qui passent de héros à zéros en moins de temps qu’il n’en faut à « Pacman » Jones pour se mettre dans le trouble? À l’exception des Tyrants et des Falcons, ce sont des équipes caméléons qui se présentent devant nous chaque semaine. Gieuth, Guerillaz, Flight of the Concords (voir le 1er paragraphe) puis Served with Ice ont tous déjoués les paris une semaine avant de lamentablement s’effondrer la semaine suivante. Les membres de Served with Ice, qui viennent de remporter une victoire imprévisible contre Balls Deep (leur deuxième victoire de suite), auront bien plus de difficulté la semaine prochaine contre Venom sans leur deux « emprunts » des Dirty Birds (D3) Victor Kozlowski et Eric Bishara. Quel visage aura cette équipe sans ces joueurs? Celui d’une aspirante au championnat ou d’une équipe médiocre de milieu de classement? Le mot-clé d’ici la fin de la saison, particulièrement dans la Division Sud sera donc Constance.

Sous le radar

 

Alors que tous semblent les oublier, les joueurs de BOOM! Goes the Dynamite (un des plus beaux noms d’équipe de la ligue) possèdent une fiche de 5-2 ce qui constitue une belle surprise alors qu’ils côtoient les Gators et les Snookers au sommet de leur division. Je leur dédie donc ce segment. Edward Shoshan (que nous avons pu voir sur Breaking the Huddle la semaine dernière) est le visage de cette franchise d’où le talent brut regorge. On n’a qu’à penser à Brian Eudoxie (un rouage important lors de la conquête du championnat de printemps de la Division C par Chaos) qui est aussi performant à l’attaque qu’en défensive. Chris St-François (connu pour être une « bête » bourrée de talent), Avi Yayon, Chris Niphakis et Jean-Sébastien Renaud sont tous des joueurs qui méritent bien plus de publicité qu’ils n’en reçoivent. Ayant seulement perdu aux mains des puissants Snookers et Gators, ces négligés risquent de finir la saison avec une reluisante fiche de 8-2 et, qui sait, de déclencher bien des BOOM! Dans un futur rapproché!

3. Jonathan Lemieux (FOTC) 20-22, 205 verges, 6 TC.

 

2. Pascal Tshilambo (SWI) 2 attrapés, 40 verges, 1 TC; 2 plaqués, 2 INT, 2 PD.

 

3. Brian Eudoxie (BOOM! Goes the Dynamite) 4 plaqués, 2 INT (dont une retournée pour un touché).

Sarwar Standings

These take into effect overall record, x-factors, skills, clutchness and the STAR-warness. They are all contenders in my opinion. I’ll update this list on a weekly basis.

 

1. Triple Sixers (7-0): Despite a close call, they still have the best offense and point differential.

 

2. Warriors (7-0): They have the best defense statistically and second best point differential.

 

3. Time Bombs (6-1): Finally suffered their first loss with a depleted roster however the question remains, who will show up next for Time Bombs?

 

4. Gators (5-2): Another strong win, this time against the Spartiates, but next they face a hot team in FOTC.

 

5. Snookers (5-2): They are beating the teams they should beat and next opponent falls under that category.

 

6. BOOM! Goes The Dynamite (5-2): Even they’re tied with Gators and Snookers, they lost to both so that ranks them at sixth, however, given the way they’re playing lately, they’re probably tied with Snookers.

 

7. Sharks (4-2-1): A veteran team is finally bringing it each week. Winners of three in a row and having lost to Gators by only 3, they can be the quite underdog no one expects to go far.

 

8. Served With Ice (4-3): A huge win over Balls Deep brings in the bottom half.

 

9. Balls Deep (4-3): A bit of a concern for this team to be ninth however what matters now is making the playoffs.

 

10. Marauders (4-3): Marauders are tenth for a second straight week but have important matches against Sharks, Balls Deep and Warriors in the next three weeks which could catapult them higher depending on the outcome.

Rehan’s Role Players (RRP)

 

This week’s RRP is Francis Vilaydeth (also known as TAM) of the Triple Sixers. You might have seen him on the introduction of the WEPL (he tackles Eugene McLaren on a run near the sidelines) but that’s just a small glimpse of this man’s talents. Earlier this year, Karim Chaoual wasn’t able to throw against the Gators so Francis Vilaydeth stepped up and delivered: 16-26, 208 yards, 6 TDs, 4 INTs but more important, he won the game.

 

You really won’t see him on offense because his specialty is defense (such as the tackle you see on Eugene McLaren). However he can do more than just tackle, this season he 3 interceptions, 2 PDs and a “pick six”. He might not be the tallest on the team but he plays as big as anyone in Division 4. In Winter 2009, he had 6 interceptions and 8 PDs. In Spring 2009, he had 3 interceptions and was a crucial component to Triple Sixers Division C championship run. If you ask anyone on the Triple Sixers about him, they’ll tell you that his energy is highly contagious and he brings a lot to the table. A player any team would love to have and hate to play against, therefore Francis Vilaydeth, you ARE a RRP!

 

Triple Sixers vs. Warriors

 

Finally the game that all of Division 4 was waiting for has arrived. A battle of the undefeated, perennial powerhouses and contenders, Karim Chaoual vs. Normal Weeks, Patrick Jerome vs. Nicky McGuire, and the list goes on… I thought about breaking this game down however it is better to just let them do their thing on the field.

 

I will say that there is a lot drama around this game. Some of the Warrior players were laughing at the fact that Triple Sixers came to scout them last weekend and the following statement was made by Nicky McGuire “Honestly, I have never seen them play but I know they’re nervous for us, coming out of their way to scout us. They were at our game talking shit but I couldn’t hear them because I was too busy winning.” Furthermore, upon asking how they would contain Patrick Jerome, he replied “Who is that?”

 

Triple Sixers’ Karim Chaoual released the following statement “This match doesn’t hold any importance for us. Our goal is to win the finals and bring home the championship rather than win a meaningless regular season game.” I guess there is nothing else left to say except, GAME ON!
