Inside the Red Zone (Div E) – Week 7

So far I’ve received positive feedback on ‘Behind The Flag’. It’s important for all teams to have their spotlight and so far it has gone well. The next two teams are heavy favorites to go all the way. It took some time to get one of the GM’s to have a sit down but it was definitely worth it. By Wednesday all interviews will be published except one because the GM and QB of NWO, Mike Sanchez is out of town so I will post his interview next week.

 

Also, the playoffs are only two weeks away so the week 9 matchup between Dat’s Big and Maccabi will have high importance, however I’ll explore that and other games in Wednesday’s column. So without further ado, here are the next two interviews.

Fools of the Country

It took some searching and resources to get a hold of GM and QB Etienne Guilmain, but when I did, he was more than happy to answer my questions. I wanted to impress Etienne therefore I asked the questions in French but it seems he wanted to show a thing or two as well so he answered in English.

C’est qui le GM et quel est son son role?

 

Jonathan Lemieux was the GM and QB for F.O.T.C. in the past seasons and I always wanted to try the QB position. So I started a new team (Fools) in the winter season with friends that had never played football before. This season I added four veterans to the team (Alex Girard, Jonathan Lemieux, Jean-Sebastien Renaud and Fred Arsenault) who will help me to show our rookies how to play better. We’re slowly getting ready for a higher division in upcoming seasons.

Quel joueur en offense et defense a vraiement ameliore pendant la saison?
Since we have a lot of rookies, it’s a tight battle but, I have to mention Phil Kattan who is having a solid season so far on D. I always place him in front of the best receiver. On O, J-F Jeanson is showing me great hands and speed that I didn’t know he had.

 

C’est sur que votre fiche de 6-1 et etre classe en deuxieme, vous jouez tellement bien. Mais pourqoui vous avez eu la misère contre les Eskimo Brothers?

First, I gotta give credit to Eskimo Brothers who really wanted the win, they played with determination. Also Shawn Steen was running circles around us lol. After the win against Golden Girls, we thought that nothing could stop us! Big mistake! Il y en aura pas de facile lol

 
C’est quoi ton attent comme QB pour la reste du saison?

I’m starting to know the strengths and weakness of all my receivers, so I’m expecting to connect more with them for the rest of the season. Yes I’m a scrambler but I’m trying to pass the ball as often as I can. For me, I will be a good QB the day that I won’t run with the ball one single play during an entire game.

Comment decidez-vous le nom d’equipe car avant c’tait Flight Of the Concords mais maintenant c’est Fools Of The Country? Le prochain sera Feet Of The Cougar?

loll we actually thought of Fans of the Cougars. Jonathan Lemieux choose the name Flight of the Concords at first, but with my new team full of rookies Ithought that Fools of the Country is more representative lol

 

Donne moi le nom d’un gars qui personne connait au ligue mais il amene son A game chaque semaine.

Fred Arsenault is always giving the best of himself both ways. He has the ability of turning some of my bad passes in big plays, sometimes in TD’s. His energy is contagious.

 

Que devriez-vous faire pour gagner le championnat?

We should prepare for every game the way we did against GG[Golden Girls]. That day we all were at the best of our shape. Maybe it was just the fact that we were the Game Of The Week lol. I will bring a camera for all our playoff’s game just in case lol

 

What was the best part of the interview? Etienne’s humor really made the chat enjoyable. As much as he likes to crack a joke or two, he’s very focused and competitive on the field. As he mentioned that Jonathan Lemieux was the previous QB/GM so it’s good to see that even after switching management, team has stuck together for the most part and still succeeding. I wish these FOOLS the best of luck down the stretch.

 

Eskimo Brothers

 

Even though they’re dominating in Div E, there are still a lot of unknown variables. I mean sure there’s Mitchell Muir and Shawn Steen however majority of the league doesn’t know much more. Well I hope that will change after my interview with GM Zach Stachowski.

 

 Who is the GM and what does he contribute to the team?

The GM is actually myself, I run basically everything there is to run on the team such as the team budget and expenses towards FPF, finding call ups, and we all contributed on the jersey idea and logo.

Your most improved player on offense and defense?

Offensively I’d have to say Corey OLIVER is our most improved and defensively it would have to be Kurt Shields and Matt Santangelo as they both had a bit of struggles on defense last season.

Being 6-1, you aren’t doing too many things wrong but why is your plus minus so much lower than the other two 6-1 teams?

We’re just a group of guys who have been best friends since high school and are competitive but still like to have fun. We just play best when our backs up against the wall.

I’ve labeled your team as a two headed dragon and with good reason given discrepancy in stats, how do you feel about that?

Even though stats usually have a knack for speaking for themselves, we consider our club much like a fine crafted watch. There are of course the key components to its assembly but it’s the not always noticeable pieces that keep it ticking in perfect motion.

 

Eskimo Brothers were in existence in previous seasons but who came up with the name and why?

We came up with it as a team last year coming into the league and if you don’t know the meaning of it look it up on urban dictionary 😉 {Writer’s note: I did look it up and the meaning is quite…intimate. I’ll just leave it at that but feel free to check it out}

Your only loss came against Golden Girls, what went wrong in that game?

We didn’t capitalize on the opportunities that we had early in the game. We dug ourselves too deep of a whole to get out of.

What will it take for the Eskimo Brothers to hold the championship trophy mid August?

Right now our offence is rolling so we just need to pick it up defensively as a whole. The rest will take care of itself.

 

It was a true pleasure to interview both players. The answers weren’t long but well worded and right on the money. That’s also how the Eskimo Brothers play the game of football. What did I learn about the Eskimo Brothers after doing this interview? Well mainly that they are REALLY a close group of friends given the definition of their name which can be found on the urban dictionary. In all honesty, it’s good to see them do well especially since they carry themselves with class. Good luck the rest of the way!
