Hot and Cold Summer Teams and Players

Alright, we are back with the regular format of Division E articles! I know that with 2 articles of mid-season report cards, it could be a while without your team being mentioned, but damn! 38 teams to cover is a TON. So, I’m sure a lot of you are excited to see what’s being written in this week’s edition. With the summer season here, and the games getting more intense as the race for the playoffs starts to intensify, I took the time to look at which teams and players have been scorching the division and which teams are staying at home with the A/C on full blast and staying ice cold.

So with a long weekend on our hands, time to kick back and enjoy the latest happenings in the Division!

Week 7 News and Notes

  • Last time we looked, we had 6 undefeated teams.
  • This week the number of undefeated teams has dropped to 4: Mamma Mia, Les Petites Carottes JR, Freshmen XL and Western.
  • Locked and Loaded were getting locked up to start the season at 1-3, but have won back-to-back games and have loaded up with talent, adding free agents Arnis Mehmetaj, Zachary Vincent, and looking to add Jack Antaki to the squad as well. BIG moves for this team that make them 5x better than they looked to start the season.
  • Crunching the numbers for STEPBROTHERS schedule… they have 5 games coming up in the next 15 days for them. Get ready!
  • Roy Khalil has improved his completion percentage (a 3-game stretch with 62.5%, 71.4% and 75% — which is great) and is scoring TDs (11 in his last 3 games), but he is still turning the ball too often, with 7 INTs in that same 3-game stretch.
  • While OPN has been Div E’s cringe team, there has been a very impressive statline. Rafi Terga has gotten 5 INTs in a 3-game stretch, which puts him in the Top 15 defenders in Div E. Terga, David Johnson, and Dimitrios Gazis have been the bright spots for the team this season. With time, experience and a solid QB, this team will not be as bad as they currently are.
  • BackYardigans have alternated wins and losses (and a tie). While they haven’t won consecutive games, their recent losses to Mamma Mia and Bullshigh have been by a combined 2 points. While we haven’t spoken about this team much, I like the potential this team has to do some damage in the playoffs after many players on the team are coming off off their first championship in the Winter season in 5B.
  • I know we see the same thing upon opening the stats… Jeremy Laplante is your passing leader after 7 weeks of the season; impressive yardage per game for a Div E quarterback. Those numbers are usually seen in Div D, so… the question is: Can Laplante see the same success in Div D if he were playing in Div D this year? I’d say if he sticks with it, plays in Tier 3 in Fall, and Div 5B in the Winter, he could absolutely play in Div D next Spring season. He would be playing against the rising Div E teams from this season + the average Div D team from this year that would stay in the division. Then yes, he could be in that upper echelon-to-above-average QB discussion.

🔥 Who’s Hot 🔥

  • Texas Whales –> Winners of 2 straight and 4 of their last 5.
  • Jeremy Laplante – 469 and 13 TDs, 0 INTs in a 2-game stretch during the mid-season report cards.
  • QUEENS have won 3 of their last 4 and have put up 193 points in their last 4.
  • Defensively, James Scicchitano of Mamma Mia is heating up with summer kicking in. He’s got 5 picks in his last 2 games, and a pick 6 in each game.
  • Excluding the game against OPN, Alex Manes has been on fire this season, with 26 TDs and 3 INTs. That’s an 8:1 TD-to-INT ratio that you rarely even see in Div A. Not only is he beating opponents with his arm, he’s averaging another 40 yards on the ground and 0.5 Rushing TDs per game as well. LPC Jr does play against better defenses the next 2 weeks in Bullshigh and BackYardigans, so let’s see if Manes can keep up the great QB play he’s shown so far.
  • George Tsagarospiros (The Creamsicles) has been on a 4-game heater, with 16 receptions, 277 yards, and 8 TDs in that span, catapulting him up amongst the top 5 receivers in yards.
  • Jean-Philippe Lamaute (Sweet Bonanza) is another receiver to watch out for. He has scored at least 1 TD in every single game so far this season and has racked up 195 yards in his last 3 games. He’s also led Sweet Bonanza in INTs, with 4 in his last 2 games to make him the team’s INT leader. He’s got great speed that not many defenses in Div E can contain. Definitely caught Iggy Magnet’s eye! 👀
  • Another receiver getting some attention recently is Jakob Daniels of The Stables. His recent surge of 248 yards and 3 TDs in his last 3 games has got guys in the Div taking a look back at who’s that. Yes, you get high quality edits in my articles and perhaps a good, small laugh.
  • After starting their FPF career 0-4, The Creamsicles have won 3 of their last 4 and are starting to understand their offense and are putting up more points.
  • Keyon Cyrus has at least 1 INT in each game except one this season where he had 3 PDs against CTE Goons. Like I mentioned in my mid-season report card, gotta feel good for the guys who take a whoppin’ going 0-10 in their debut season, stay composed, keep playing in Fall and Winter, improve, see what it takes to win in FPF, and come back 1 year later, making a difference for their team who is undefeated so far at 6-0.
  • Airs have won 2 straight and 3 of their last 4 after starting the season 0-2.
  • We covered him on the podcast, but Félix Déry-Bernard is Div E’s next rising star, particularly on defense, with his 10 INTs, 5 of which have gone back for 6.
  • After an 0-3 start, Sweet Bonanza are starting to heat up with 2 straight wins and winners of 3 of their last 4.
  • Another Creamsicle makes the hot list here, this time it’s rusher Yiani Dafniotis. He’s racked up 2 sacks per game in his last 3 games and has jumped up the rankings, tied as the #2 rusher with 12 sacks on the season

🧊 Who’s Cold 🧊

  • After starting 2-0-1, Best Worst Zgust have lost 4 of their last 5 games and are trending downwards.
  • After starting 2-0, La Menaisse had dropped 3 straight before beating Vice City but once again took an L to No Brain No Gain, though it was a 1 point loss and were very competitive in that game.
  • Cavaliers du Rohan are another team that started hot off the gates, but have lost 4 of their last 5, though, they will tell you they lost their 4 games by a combined 12 points.
  • Bloodline have lost 3 straight games and are slumping their way into the playoffs as they have already played 8 games.
  • After CTE Goons had won 2 straight in games 3 and 4 of the season, they are now on a 3-game slide. Can they hold onto their playoff spot?
  • The Diddlers have dropped 3 straight and like CTE Goons, are hoping they can hold onto their playoff spot, but they do have 1 more game than them to work with.
  • Practice Squad are 0-4-1 in their last 5, but have lost their last 3 games by a combined 13 points, so they are narrowly missing out on the dubs. They aren’t as bad as their record indicates and will look to squeak into the playoffs as they hold the 31st of 32 playoff spots.

Awards Prediction

Quarterback of the Year

The thing that is pretty volatile with predicting Division E awards, especially QBOY, is that if you haven’t faced a good defense yet, and you suddenly do in the final 2-3 games, then maybe your prolific stats you’ve put up against struggling teams comes to a definitive stop.

I’m heavily debating between Cameron Wilson and Alex Manes. You can’t discredit Manes‘ rushing stats in the conversion. With 275 rushing yards and 4 TDs, he’s like adding another 300-yard receiver to LPC’s offensive arsenal. But, Wilson has put up similar numbers in one less game. But I gotta choose one

Iggy’s QBOY Prediction:

Alex Manes

The way he’s protected the ball, put up offensive numbers and can rely on a strong defense for more possessions to score, I’m predicting Manes comes away with the award.

In Contention: Cameron Wilson, Jeremy Laplante

Receiver of the Year

Another tough award to predict. While Natan Nettel would be today’s pick for receiver of the year, the race is going to be tight until the end. Nettel is first in yards and TDs which will easily net you the award, but will he be able to hold on?

Iggy’s ROY Prediction:

Maxime Sharkawi

With the remaining schedule left for Baby Sharks, I’ll say that the one they call “Shark” will be able to surpass Nettel in TDs and be close, if not just above Nettel and Suresh for yards.

In Contention: Natan Nettel, Nirosh Suresh, Jonathan Bottazzi

Defensive Player of the Year

With average QB’s because of the lack of games played, Félix Déry-Bernard won’t have enough reps to get 2-way player of the year, but he’s my prediction to win DPOY with the 10 INTs and how dangerous he is taking it back to the house. He’s done so on half of his interceptions, sweeping through opposing defenses.

Iggy’s DPOY Prediction:

Félix Déry-Bernard

In Contention: Laurent Beauchamp, Mathis Ledoux, James Scicchitano, Matthew Campbell, Jeremy Steinberg

2way Player of the Year

The most prestigious award is in fact the 2-way POY, as you made significant contributions on both sides of the ball. To be atop the leaderboard one either side of the ball is hard enough, but to be elite in both is crucial for teams that look to go on long post season runs.

Iggy’s 2way POY Prediction:

Matthew Campbell

With Western’s remaining schedule, I can see Campbell coming through with another 10 TDs and 3-4 INTs and totalling 500+ yards for the season, which would be enough for 2-way, but he does have Laurent Beauchamp RIGHT below his tail for the award. Should be a tight race until the end!

In Contention: Laurent Beauchamp, Maxime Sharkawi, Jean-Philippe Lamaute

Week 7 Fantasy Team of the Week

In my Fantasy Team of the Week, I go with the 2 Best QBs, the 5 best starting WRs, the 5 best DBs and the best rusher and make the best team that could have suited up that week.

Enjoy!

QB2: Serge Hayek (Locked & Loaded) – 14/18 (77.8%), 159 Passing Yards, 6 TDs, 0 INTs, 143.1 QBR, 2 Rushing Attempts, 24 Rushing Yards

WR3: Vincent Richard (Vice City): 4 receptions, 4 targets, 80 yards, 3 TDs

WR4: Jean-Philippe Lamaute (Sweet Bonanza): 3 receptions, 4 targets, 75yards, 3 TDs, 1x XP2

WR5: Zachary Linhares (Head Tops Only): 7 receptions, 7 targets, 69 yards, 3 TDs

DB1: Félix Déry-Bernard (QUEENS): 5 tackles, 5 INTs, 3 Def TD
