Grumpy Old X-Men picked up their first point of the season in a week 8 tie with Relics

With Carmine’s Spitfire on a Bye Week, I get to return back to the writing ranks this week to bring you the latest and greatest reviews and previews from the old man division of FPF.

Thursday Nights in Kirkland is the place to be for those who wake up with more injuries than they went to bed with.  For those of you who are ready to start playing oldtimers football, there is still a few weeks left if you want to come check out the action. With Team and Individual draft registration, there is plenty of room for anyone or team who want to sign up for the 2020 season.

Lets get started with a review of this weeks action starting with the early game all the way through to the dreaded 11pm game…..

Paramount 32 – Flagplus 34

It’s not how you start the game, it’s how you finish….. however a good start is key to any game of course. Paramount with their 18th string QB at the helm (me) managed to throw 8 TD’s, sadly 3 of them were to Flagplus all within the first 5 plays of the game.  So before FPF even had an offensive series and 5 minutes into the game it was 21-0 for FPF. Cory Johnson starts it off with his first Pick 6 of the season then the always dominant Domenic Tossi says “Hold by Beer” and gets 2 pick 6’s in a row. Team Paramount thankfully for me, doesn’t roll over and die, as we manage to right the ship, punch in 5 TD’s and some great defensive red zones stands, taking the game down to the wire with a 2pt convert attempt to tie the game and just missed it. A loss in the stats, but a moral victory for Paramount.  FPF finally for the first time this season moves out of the basement and into 3rd place in the draft division standings.

Pacemakers 12 – O.A.S. 37

Pacemakers were given 2 gifts this week.  First Gift, O.A.S. played the first 15mins or so with only 5 players. Unfortunately, they couldn’t take advantage early and O.A.S. continues their domination this season even with 5 guys.  Pacemakers as usual do well on the ground as Jason Rossie leads the conference with rushing attempts, yards and TD’s, but success in the air wasn’t there Thursday night against an all-star defence.  Pacemakers seem to have found a consistent offensive line-up with 4 players posting a multi-catch game, but turnovers did them in this night.  O.A.S. owns the stat sheet with 4 players completing passes, 6 players with catches, 4 with TD’s and 6 players posting defensive stats, a balanced attack indeed.

And the second gift that Pacemakers get is a roster cap violation by O.A.S. so the official score is Pacemakers 30 – O.A.S. 0

JMJ 40 – Polvige 37

Converts, Converts, Converts.  Turnovers hurt, but missed converts will always haunt you. Both teams here punch in 6 TD’s, but JMJ’s converts prove to be the difference as they complete perfect 8-0 regular season. Polvige Pivot Aggie has a solid outing going 23 for 29 and 6 TD’s, but when playing the top team you must be perfect and a mid-game INT keep JMJ from experiencing their first loss. Karim Yasmine  leads Polvige with his best game of season notching 8 catches for 80 yards.  JMJ continue to do JMJ things, Rob Allen picks up 3 TD’s, Kevin Kousaie gets 3 sacks and Stephen Harripersaud spreads the ball around avoids any turnovers so they deservedly earn the title of Regular Season Champion. However, Polvige put on a strong showing again against the division leader, losing both regular season games by a total of only 7 points, can they find the magic formula to knock them off in the playoffs?  Time will tell.

Oldpack 13 – Monster Jim 46

Oldpack usually finds themselves snakebitten by a short bench, but on this night they have most of their guys yet the stars don’t align and they fall hard to Monster.  A definite on/off night for the offence as they manage to complete 17 passes with over 200 yards but can’t deliver in the red zone. The odd stat line doesn’t find Remy Pare with any catches and only 1 tackle.  Everything about 35 + is offence and 12 points won’t cut it very often.  Monster picks up points on both sides off the ball gaining momentum as we head towards the playoffs. Peterkin has a “monster” 2 way player game with 5 passing TD’s, 5 tackles, an INT, 3 PD’s and a rushing TD, not a bad day at the office.

Relics 26 – Grumpy Old X-Men 26

And the dreaded tie…… the Meh of results.  Relics have a secret that most teams haven’t figured out apparently… Yoni is their offence.  You stop him and you probably win the game.  He’s having an unreal career, but the X-Men clearly couldn’t stop the Juggernaut himself (see what I did there?  #geekmoment). Yoni goes off again with 8 catches, 132 yards and 4 TD’s as the Rosenblatt/Yehrer duo continue a successful 2019 campaign for the Relics.  X-men have solid outing with 3 players picking up TD’s and Mario Martella leading the way on defence with 5 tackles.  X-men pick up their first point of the season and with that hopefully they can pick up a win before playoff season hits.

Final Regular Season Week Outlook

A league wide shutdown takes place for spring break this week, but the league returns March 14th with Week 9 and the final games before playoff season.

Regular Season Stats Champs Battle

QB’s : With 1 Passing TD this week, Carmine should lead all QB’s in Yards, Completions and Touchdowns.

Receivers : It’s the Yoni show, I don’t think anyone will catch him this week and he should finish as the leader in Receptions, Yards and TD’s.

Tackles : Jeff Brown (29) and Jesse Roberts(27) are neck and neck going into Week 9

Interceptions : 6 players currently have 5 or 4 Interceptions so Week 9 performance will determine it all

Sacks : Barring any monster performances Kevin Kousaie who is idle in Week 9 should take it.

That’s it for this write up, Carmine will be back next week with the 35+ words so thanks for reading and see you on the field
