Game recaps, and playoff outlooks
A full slate of games this week in the 35+ division means lots of action as the playoff inch closer and closer. 3 games of 4 were decided by 1, 3 and 5 points so everyone and anyone has a chance to win it all on April 5th.
Here we go.
Draft Division
Dagwoods 34 – Polvige 33
You wanna know who has the most points scored in Draft Division? It’s Polvige. You wanna know who has the highest points against? Polvige. That’s not a great combo. Polvige drops a heartbreaker 34-33 to first place Dagwoods in a game they were 10 yards away from winning. With only a 6 man roster, Polvige Offence did their job with 5 TD’s, 3 to Brian Martin and 2 for Viking’s Superfan Tim O’Hara, but you can only win games if you score more than the other team does. Their Defence picked off Lonnie twice which is a great help but couldn’t stop Rob Allen as he dominates with 5 TD’s on 6 catches and 144 yards. Polvige has now lost 2 games Dagwoods by 1 point each time. If they meet in the playoffs, will the 3rd time be a charm for Polvige?
Paramount 33 – Relics 19
Stephen Harripersaud makes his 35+ QB debut a memorable one with a 33-19 win in place of an out of town Jon Moodie. Finding rhythm with a new team is never easy, but fortunately he had his Wrecking Crew teammate Kevin Kousaie at center who carried most of the load offensively with 7 catches, 62 yards and a score. Kevin also decided to be the workhorse on defence picking up 4 sacks including a key safety. Not a bad day at the office. If there was a 2-Way Award given every game he would definitely have won it, but there isn’t so this shout-out is your award. Relics again with a 6 man roster, are tied at half, but can’t find a way to get it done in the 2nd half. Captain Ryan Etinson keeps moving the ball at center with 5 catches, 80 yards and a TD, but the deep threat they need hasn’t materialized and they couldn’t capitalize offensively on a strong defensive performance with 3 INT’s.
Teams Division
The Leons 47 – 35ers 44
After a 54-54 shoot-out tie in their first meeting of the season neither team disappointed with a great performance from both teams again. The Leons get the upper hand in this one giving 35ers their first loss and more importantly pick up the tie breaker with 35ers. The Leons now have a solid chance of taking the regular season title needing only 1 win in their next 2 games to win the division title. Both QB’s have strong games as Cory Pecker throws for 7 TD’s while Carmine Pollice finds the end zone 6 times. An unfortunate 35ers skipping snap resulting in a safety was the key difference here in an otherwise flawless game from both Offences. 35ers Jean-Pierre Moreau makes an impact in his 35+ debut with 7 tackles. These teams bring out the best in each other and if they meet again the playoffs, take the over. Even at 80 points, they’ll easily hit it.
Oldpack 44 – Monster Football 39
Another great game, Oldpack sweeps the season series against Monster Football with a strong 44 point effort. Pascal Murray outlasts Monster Back-up QB Craig O’Brien 7 TD’s to 6 TD’s in another offensive shoot-out game. Both QB’s show their ball distribution skills as Owie has 4 receivers with 5 catches or more and Pascal connects with 3 different receivers for over 90 yards each. Each QB finds 3 different receivers with TD’s as well. Hard to play defence against either team when the ball is distributed so evenly. Even though it might be hard to stop either team, Monster’s Ryan Payne (5 tackles) and Oldpack Alexandre Cavanaugh (7 tackles) both played well to lead their teams with big games defensively.

A great week of games again in week 8 and more definitely on the way with only 2 regular season weeks remaining. Spring break will probably wreck havoc on the rosters and I’m sure some new faces will make their 35+ debuts so upsets could be on the horizon. Random Fact of the week, you can throw a golf ball from the upper deck to the back of the opposite end zone @ Kirkland. Rochdi was wrong. Kevin was right.
See you on the field.
