FPF News Week 6
Some of my best memories are of Thanksgiving weekends. We grew up fairly Americanized and as such we developed the love for Turkey and American football. Often, my friends and family would celebrate three Thanksgivings. We would have a celebration out of town with all of our friends, my brother and I would return home and celebrate with our family. We often would take days off for American Thanksgiving and hold a third feast on a yearly basis.
One year, Chapman (FPF producer and the Eternal Hunger at Master Control) left early on a Saturday morning to head to Buffalo for a weekend of beer, wings and football. Half way through the Journey hit: “Don’t Stop Believing” we decided to take a side venture to the American side of Niagara Falls.
The song choice was typical, my friends and I have a five and a half hour playlist that is dedicated to the music that our parents “forced” us to listen to whilst on road trips. As many of our trips were to Plattsburgh, NY (exotic I assure you), we have named the playlist: the Super Plattsburgh Mix. While it is a dreamy masterpiece of 80’s hits and sensations, it also served as a great soundtrack to yet another great Thanksgiving weekend.
As Chapman had worked through the night, I drove the entire way to Buffalo with no complaint to allow my friend to rest. The rest of the trip was filled with beers, chicken wings the size of a woman’s hand (80 wings proved to be too many) visits to the local Native American Casino and way too many screen passes.
Nonetheless, good times were had and we began to drive back and the dulcet tones of Tears for Fears filled the confined vehicular air waves. I looked to my left and having consumed far too man chicken wings, Chapman began to sleep in my passenger seat as we departed to head to my family’s home for a family Thanksgiving party. We arrived into Montreal eventually and had reached the junction between the Metropolitan and the Decarie highway. Awaking from his slumber Chapman finally. Meekly offered: “do you want me to drive?”. I angrily turned down his offer and drove into the horizon with the promise of sweet potato pie in my future. This of course indicates where my frustration with the podcast producer began.
In any case, I trust you all had a nice holiday. This article is coming out a little later as all the parties involved had a variety of family affairs. Some of it will be out of date but, you can use the opportunity to laugh at us where it is clear that we were wrong.

The Qualifying Round are in full motion and we’re starting to see teams emerge from the pack and push towards the top of their pools; was it a fluke or can they really compete? Let’s see what our analysts think of this week’s performances.

KGP Ra continues to impress me as they face tougher competition and managed to keep the score (34-26) fairly competitive the whole way. Some doubted Phil Cutler’s ability and/or the roster, but they’re proving us all wrong, all over again. Keyport Lock’s offence really hit the ground running this week as they face even competition and quickly turned into a powerhouse in their respective division. Jeff Rosenblatt is doing all the right things at the right time. We took the time to express our discontent with X-Men and they took our words to heart as they stepped up BIG time vs All Hooks this week and beat what we’ve considered the best team in their Tier. Well done. |
BearSkins’ only cross-over game came in the first week, but they simply couldn’t keep up with their opponents in a brutal defeat (42-19). I’m not too sure what’s happening with BearSkins this season, other than Sasha Papich’s absence, but they really need to turn things around. And fast. The Commission might have faced stringy competition in week 5, but their prowess on the field had nothing to do with how they played; they were bare and simply couldn’t put up a fight as the QB position continues to be riddled with question marks. Dawnson Caf’s Finest made a change at QB to try to get things going and only mustered a mere 8 points. Many of the guys are still learning this new league, but it’s been 5 weeks and 8 points isn’t going to cut it considering the talent they have on the field week-in and week-out. |

I know the typical win/loss narrative would suggest that winning football is the only football that can be impressive. However, the Blacksox did score 25 points in a loss in the first week of the qualifying round. Voodoo’s offence is out of this world. They are the fastest show on turf right now and they are fun to watch. Pat St-Amand delivers great balls and is a competent play caller. The speed of his receivers make them a devastating offence to attempt to contain. Diablos beat a short staffed Lightweight. However, they did beat a team that is more talented and I do need to credit colleague and quarterback, Francois Martin. Diablose looked great on both sides of the ball in game Q1. |
Urgence Medice just lost the easiest game in their bracket. More than that however, I truly thought they were a better team than Freshii Superfoods regardless of the lack of brand name power. For the moment, in the world of overreactions and recency bias, it would appear that isn’t the case. The Commission are the team that is most closely associated with the term quarterback starved. This was recently solved in the spring season as Sean Avraam led them to a championship. For the moment, it appears the Jean Lussier experiment is failing. Every time we see a reputed tackle qb come to FPF we worry that they will dominate from the get go. Tristan Grenon and the North Shore Finners are the most recent team to be laking success despite the tackle pedigree. It does take time to adjust to FPF. It does appear that Grenon isn’t there yet. |

Games of The Week

I was worried momentarily when I saw Francois’ top performers he had me worried. However, with several no shows and for Brandon Aylward having to fill in for brother Danny Aylward and this hurt Francois’ scoring as he expected Brandon to be a receiver in this game. I took another win over my comrades. So far it seems they are having trouble finding value in this format.
Peeze’s Top Performers: Kevin Wyeth (37.46 points), JF Daloze (26.8 Points), Mike Pierrecin (30.4 Points)
Francois’ Top Performers: Sean Avraam (32.67 points), Mathiey Lepage (23.2 Points), Patrick Jerome (35.2 Points)
Simon’s Top Performers: Kevin Wyeth (37.46 points), Jeremy White (29.4 points), Travis Moses (14 Points)

Fantasy Rules and Scoring
Each week, Simon, Francois and I will select a quarterback, 3 wide receivers, a rusher a defensive back (where only their defensive points will count) and a flex player who’s offensive and defensive contributions will count. Players weekly price will be determined by their cap hit +/- the spread in their games. Moreover, we cannot exceed a cost of 560 points.
This is a PPR league (Points Per Reception league) so, snappers you will not be neglected. The scoring breaks down as follows:
Quarterbacks: 1 point per 15 yards passing, 3 points per passing td, 1 point per 5 yards rushing, 5 points per rushing TD. -2 points will be deducted per interception and -1 point will be deducted per sack.
Wide Receivers: 1 point per catch, 1 point per 5 yards receiving, 5 points per TD
Rusher: 2 points per tackle, 7.5 points per sack, 3 points per PD, 5 Points per TD
DBs: 2 points per tackle, 4 points per interception, 3 points per PD and 5 Points per TD
