FPF News Week 4
We find ourselves at an interesting cross roads as a species. Armed with the benefit of free thought we continue to forge our opinions within the limited context of one of two political beliefs that can’t possibly handle the complexity of human thought or emotion. Yet we continue to anthropomorphize the social media comments section and handle ideas without any context or care for the people involved.
After several weeks of watching people and the leader of the most powerful country on earth deliberate over the freedoms of those to protest during a song and in the shadows of the flag that protect the right to do so. It seems little thought is given to the idea that the United States was a country born from conflict, and protest. The established leadership was challenged and thus a new country was forged and with it came an ideology of freedom and expression. There are things one may not agree with, however, how can one argue against peaceful protest? The only reasons that seem to be provided on either side depends on which side one rests along the political pendulum (an interesting term considering how static it has become).
Sadly, yesterday evening will be remembered as an awful and tragic event that will be used in the short term for the small minded to stand atop a soap box and preach the party lines that have been fed to them because it seems easier to do so then to compose a singular independent thought. We forget that this actually affects people and families and are eerily more comfortable discussing politics than the loss of human life.
When it comes to FPF Media, I know that I often am hard to work with. Simon Dagenais and Eagle will attest to that. However, I am equally difficult to have intelligible conversations about important matters because I don’t thinks of things as a binary set of options but try to think of everything as a nuanced idea that should be handled as such. I don’t try to convince others of what my viewpoint is and I prefer a world of disharmony. That may sound awful but, what I mean by that is that I truly think we would be living in a safer, more interesting and more satisfying world if we didn’t try to convince everyone else of our point of view and just took a moment to listen. Listen to those who are suffering even if we don’t agree for their reasons of protest. Listen to those who have mental health issues and need help before they do something that can harm others. Listen to the people around us and be willing to be proven wrong once in a while.
Impressed / Disappointed

With the Qualifying Round officially on the way, this week’s edition of the Impressed/Disappointed board offers a look back at the Preliminary Round and how teams fared compared to our expectations. Remember, there’s still plenty of football left to play for anyone in either of these columns to find themselves in the opposing one within a week.

· Friends in Low Places managed two upsets throughout the first round and ended in the 2nd grouping; it might be a bit high for them, but they could continue to impress us and stick it to a few of these teams by the round’s end. · Urgence Medic came into the season as a serious underdog and showed everyone how talented this roster truly is. With a chance to prove themselves in the first grouping, they’ll be able to test themselves against the best the league has to offer. · Greendale Human Beings were seeded as a high-end D6 team coming into the season, but all these wins are really elevating their stocks. Maybe this will help them move up a division or two next season! |
· I’ve said it before, but I kinda have to say it again, BearSkins shouldn’t be 0-3 at this point. Coming into the season as the 2nd seed, it’s disappointing. Seeing their current schedule, anything sort of 4-1 will be a disappointing finish. · No Name has always been a defensive franchise, but the rest weeks are showing certain weaknesses on that side of the ball. With a new QB learning the ropes, their defence has got to step it up and make plays for him. · Trigger Happy Bunnies has the team to compete with the best in their Tier and finish atop their division, but fell flat last week. Time will tell whether or not they manage to bounce back from their previous outing. |

· Dawson Caf’s Finest: The lesser known Finest team in FPF looked good in their first foray into Flag Plus play. The addition of George Spano should pay off in the long term and Daniel Tuccinardi looks to be the kind of player that can dominate on both sides of the ball. · Voodoo have definitely taken the challenge of moving forward without staple qb Frank Kaye and the new configuration the features Patrick St.Amand looks deadly. Amazing to see that these guys can succeed in a variety of circumstances. · Dad Bod Squad: I’m sure no one truly expected DBS to beat Fine Wine and they were certainly outclassed, however, Sean Avraam and co. definitely took advantage when they were the superior team. That’s all you can ask for in this type of format. |
· #NR were a team I expected to do well and perhaps push FPF-All Stars. There were some extenuating circumstances, such as an early injury to Corey Pecker against the FPF All Stars. Still I thought we would see something more from one of the more exciting FPF franchises. · Braves: When I first saw them I didn’t think they were truly up to snuff with FPF stalwart division 1 teams. I was proven wrong after a division 2 championship and a decent season in Division A in the spring. However, the Braves and Jonathan Maheu seem out of sorts during the FPF cup. They find themselves atop the second pool instead of nestled in the first. · Don’t spout X-Men’s record at me. They went 3-0 but could have easily lost two of their games. Couple this with the fact that X-Men had a remarkable easy schedule as they faced nothing but Division 6 teams in the tournament so far. |

FPF Daily Fantays Football
By Paolo Della Rocca
After losing a close battle last week I worried to see that JD Chevalier did not play last week. That said, it was quickly negated by absenteeism by Rick Cummins and Anthony Da Silva who did not suit up for my opponents.
I was able to pull out a victory due to some great performances detailed below. My team put up 127.9 which led Simon’s 121.1 and Francois’ 110.1. Let’s see how this week’s slate shakes out.
Peeze’s Top Performers: Brandon Aylward (40.6 points), Mathieu Lepage (35.6 points), Theo Ojeaha (20 points)
Francois’ Top Performers : Jonathan Maheu (26.3 points), Mathieu Lepage (35.6 points), Theo Ojeaha (20 points)
Simon’s top Performers : Dan Lazzara (37.3 points), Gabriel Wiseman (31.6 points), Jesse Dupuis 24 points

Fantasy Rules and Scoring
Each week, Simon, Francois and I will select a quarterback, 3 wide receivers, a rusher a defensive back (where only their defensive points will count) and a flex player who’s offensive and defensive contributions will count. Players weekly price will be determined by their cap hit +/- the spread in their games. Moreover, we cannot exceed a cost of 560 points.
This is a PPR league (Points Per Reception league) so, snappers you will not be neglected. The scoring breaks down as follows:
- Quarterbacks: 1 point per 15 yards passing, 3 points per passing td, 1 point per 5 yards rushing, 5 points per rushing TD. -2 points will be deducted per interception and -1 point will be deducted per sack.
- Wide Receivers: 1 point per catch, 1 point per 5 yards receiving, 5 points per TD
- Rusher: 2 points per tackle, 7.5 points per sack, 3 points per PD, 5 Points per TD
- DBs: 2 points per tackle, 4 points per interception, 3 points per PD and 5 Points per TD
