Food For Thought (Div B) – Week 12
This weekend being a “bye week” for Division B, this will be an abridged version of my regular article.
Unless they were away on vacation somewhere in the vicinity of the planet Mars, most FPF aficionados are now aware of the two finalists who will have a chance to touch some silverware in Division B. But before we start talking about our top achievers, let’s see whose dreams they crushed in their bid for the title.
When Hell Broke Loose…
As early as last Sunday, the hotheaded Maniax were ousted by the top-seeded G-Men in one of the most eventful games of the year. Clearly, tempers were soaring high just like the decibels of taunts, jeers and outraged screams. Both teams exchanged the lead in various occasions and the game was not decided until the last whistle, which was, as customary during most of the match up, followed by several tantrums from the losing team. Strictly from a performance standpoint, not much can be said except that the best team won although every player drained whatever energy and courage they could muster.
What may keep the gossip going, however, is the total lack of discipline and respect displayed by the Maniax players. Nobody should ever have to be reminded that they should always respect the league in which they play… but I guess some souls are simply forgetful.
The Calm After the Storm
The second semi-final did not live up to the explosive hype set by the previous encounter. Actually, Prestige World Wide had it pretty easy for a second week straight. Although Redemption did put up some nice offensive numbers, it was their inability to stop Phil Leduc and the rest of Alex Lever’s arsenal that handed Prestige the victory on a platter. Against the G-Men, in 2 weeks, I have no doubts that Prestige World Wide’s defence will be far harder to penetrate than during this offensive showdown.
Great Expectations
As we near the seasonal press conference during which members of both finalist teams will talk about their expectations in the upcoming finals, we are also getting closer to unveiling the playoff MVP. Even though nothing can be decided before the finals take place, I have a presentiment the winner will be a receiver and not a QB. For now, Nareg Yessayan and Phil Leduc have been outstanding for their respective teams but could one of them realistically cap it off with a playoff MVP trophy? I believe so.
