Flo’s Forecast: Week 7 Recap – Week 8 Preview

The Finest have fallen, the Monstars have risen. To see the Monstars take down FPF’s finest dynasty ever in their first year in the top division is quite remarkable and awesome for the league.

Another team that took their first loss this week is Grip N Rip, as they lost a nail-biter 46-43 against a rising Ambassadors of Quan team. You can see that game here as it was FPF’s Game of the Week. Best GOTW of the season by far, go check it out.

Week 7 Recaps:

Div. A

Monstars 44, Montreal’s Finest 39

They did it. The Monstars continued their impressive cinderella run by upending Montreal’s Finest and shocking the FPF community in the process. While Rod Mashtoub flipped the script from last time he played the Finest defense to the tune of 239 yards and 7 touchdowns passing, Kevin Wyeth threw one critical interception, to Mashtoub nonetheless, that was the difference in this game. Isaiah Allard and Fred Viens had big games for the Monstars combining for 138 yards and 4 touchdowns while on the Finest side, Mike Harrington and Pat Jerome did most of the damage combining for 188 yards and 5 touchdowns. The game was tied at the half similarly to the first time these two teams met except the Monstars actually held a one point lead last time around. Whereas last time, Mashtoub and the Monstars completely imploded and Mashtoub had an atrocious second half, this time was very different as the ever-improved Monstars put up 24 points in the second half to finish off the game. Now riding a confidence wave the size of the Pacific ocean undefeated in their last four games, the Monstars take on the lowly Legends this week. As for Montreal’s Finest, the loss meant the end of their undefeated season, but it will serve a fresh reminder that they are beatable and that they need to be sharp at all times on any given Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday. With a big game against ABE coming up, what better time to bounce back in a big way?

Div. B

Ambassadors of Quan 46, Grip N Rip 43

FPF’s GOTW did not disappoint as we witnessed a true barn burner when undefeated Grip N Rip took on an ascending Ambassadors of Quan playing with a lot of confidence. Ambassadors of Quan came out on fire as they jumped out to a 34-18 lead scoring on every drive and hitting some big conversions to boot. With Holowach slinging it well and his receivers making some highlight-reel grabs (I’m looking at you Danny D’Amour), it looked like Ambassadors of Quan were heading for an easy win over the defending D3 champs. However, with a clutch score before the half, another to start the second half, and another touchdown following a huge defensive stop, GnR came all the way back to take the lead 37-34. The teams traded scores and AoQ then took the lead 46-43 with GnR getting the ball back with a chance to win. Vinny Gualano had four plays to drive his offense the length of the field. Buying time in true Gualano style, he managed to get the ball to the 1-yard line with a single play remaining. Looking for Anthony Da Silva on a double move slant out back in as he’s done so many times in the past, this time was all for not as Da Silva stumbled and Gualano tried to heave it desperately across the field to no avail. With the heartbreaking defeat, GnR moves to 6-1 while AoQ get another statement victory to move to 4-2-1 on the season.

Division A Power Rankings

  1. Montreal’s Finest (6-1)

So much for an undefeated season but raise your hand if you had the Monstars beating Montreal’s Finest before the season….EVER? Never mind their first season in the top division.

  1. Monstars (3-3-1)

Yes, after going 3-0-1 in the last four weeks, they’ve shown that they can beat each and every team in this division and they deserve the recognition. They are playing great, consistent football.

  1. All Black Everything (3-3-1)

I don’t know when the last team this roster scored less than 20 points, but I’m going to say it was a while ago. They just aren’t finding any consistency this season.

  1. Rainmakers (4-3)

They needed a pick-six to barely escape a sub-filled Legends team. Not exactly a win that will impress anyone.

  1. Top Guns (3-4)

Holding ABE to 18 points is nothing to scoff at. If the defense can find this kind of success more often, watch out.

  1. Legends (1-6)

Again missing a big chunk of their team, the Legends found a way to almost steal a victory away from the Rainmakers but ultimately fell 1-point short. With Cory Pecker suspended, the Legends will have to rally together to keep their fading playoff hopes alive vs. the Monstars.

Divison B Top 5 Power Rankings

  1. Star City (7-0)

Still undefeated but a big matchup looms ahead with GnR this week.

  1. Grip N Rip (6-1)

They came into the GOTW flat and they paid the price in the form of their first loss.

  1. STL (7-0)

Close call vs. Casket Closers but a win is a win and they’ll take it. What made this surprising was that they got 5 interceptions off of the opposing quarterback and yet only escaped by two points.

  1. Ambassadors of Quan (4-2-1)

I don’t care that they have two losses or that they just came off a tie against Simon Dagenais. This team has been a giant slayer and they can beat any team in this division on any given day.

  1. Two and a Half Dans (5-2)

Two impressive wins in a row has their stock rising. They can play with any team in the division when they are clicking on all cylinders.
