FACE Jazz and several upsets dominate Week 6
Welcome to Week 7 of the FlagPlusFootball Division 6 season. The first half of the season is now officially in the books. The second half is now officially in full gear. The playoff races are getting tighter and tigher every week, and each win or lose, proves to swing the pentelum even further in the direction of the playoffs for some teams, while others see themselves swinging in the complete opposite direction.
Speaking of the playoffs, Week 6 did nothing to clear up the chaos that has been the fight for positioning in both Conference A and B, as we saw a number of upsets take place.
Before we get into the upsets however, I need to give a tip of the hat to the team with the tIe dye t-shirts, none other then Face Jazz, for notching their 2nd straight win.
After posting their first W of the season two weeks ago with an upset 20-14 win over the Goon Squad, they rolled over the Permian Panthers 31-6. It’s not often you find yourself winning a game when you get production from the QB position along the lines of 6 of 13 for for 41 yards 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions, but that’s exactly what Face Jazz did as they rode a strong defensive performance headlined by Eddy Rousseau who recorded an incredible 4 INTs off of opposing QB Eric Peault (he threw 5 in the game) and ran two of them back to the house. How do you throw 4 picks to the same guy in one game?
Clearly, this game was far from a masterpiece, as Peault, Joshua Hidalgo-Trivilidis, and the aformentioned Rousseau (the only QB who didn’t throw a pick) combined to go 14 of 32 for 102 yards with 3 TD passes and 8 INTs. Yikes!!!! A win is a win however, and FACE Jazz has a good chance at making it 3 wins in a row when they play Dirty Mike n the Boys this Sunday at Stade de Montreal.
Now back to the upsets…
Will the real Jagys & Chill please stand up!
For the second time in 3 weeks, Jagys & Chill came out on the wrong end of a close game as they were knocked off 8-6 by the Aliens. J&C QB Jean-Felix Daloze had another dreadful perfomance just like he had 2 weeks ago in his team’s 33-22 loss to the Tigers. Last Sunday against the Aliens he completed only 6 passes, and was picked off 3 times. The schedule makers do Daloze and his squad no favours, as they face off against a very good Smokin’ Axolotls team and their top-5 ranked defense this Monday at Stade de Montreal. Good luck boys.
Another upset saw Jean Guy knock off Trinity 14-13. Two things really stood out to me in this game. First, is the fact that J.G pulled off the win without the services of their best player QB/Rusher Simon Laporte. Secondly, after taking part in arguably the most exciting games of the season, in their Week 6 32-31 shoot-out loss with the Rolling Thunder, they struggle to find the end-zone this week.
The loss to Jean Guy was the third straight for a Trinity team that plays both up and down to it’s competition. The big question for the squad now, is whether or not they can get their act together and grab a playoff spot with 4 games remaining. We’ll start to get some answers this Sunday against the KRUSADERS who are also in a fight for their post-season lives.
For Jean Guy, the win which was powered by their traditionally stingy defense, was huge, as they not only stayed above the glut of teams who are battling it out for the last few spots, but the W also 1 game behind 1st place Gyr in Conference B. More importantly, it sets up a more than interesting Week 9 showdown when both squads meet up.
The final upset upset game worth mentioning is Les Huards stealing a point against the red-hot Suh Tang Clan.
Coming into the game, the Clan’ were winners of 4 straight games, as they took advantage of a predominantly weak first half schedule. In all honesty, with the exception of this Tuesday’s upcoming game against The Warriors, and their game the week after against Gyr, S.T.C isn’t actually facing a murderer’s row of opponents the rest of the way. For a team who complained to yours truly about not getting any respect, you guys need to win the games you’re supposed to win before you get any. Step It Up guys…
Let’s see who balled this week…
Eddy Rousseau (FACE Jazz) – He played a huge role in his teams aforementioned win over the Permian Panthers as he recorded a Div E weekly-high 4 interceptions, two of which were he ran back for touchdowns. Let’s see if he can add to his total Sunday against Dirty Mike n the Boys.
Les Bonhommes Jaunes – Another week, another near 40-point effort by the undefeated LBJ, as they knocked off yet another opponent in dominating fashion, by beating Beastmode 39-24. With a high scoring offense led by Quarterback Jeremie Ledoux, and Receivers Marc-Antoine Douillard, Marc-Antoine Vallee, Simon Beliveau, to go along with a solid defense super-headed by Rusher Maxime Ledoux, and a secondary that has 7 members who have recorded an INT. This is a team that has a very good shot at running the table.
Alex Noel (SPARTANS) If there was a Rookie of the Week Award, Noel would have gotten it without a doubt. In his FPF this two-way weapon dashed Victorious Secret to the tune of 3 catches for 80 yards and 2 TDs on offense. On defense, he added an INT, 3 tackles, and 2 batted balls. This yet another weapon for a SPARTANS team that is still fighting off the injury bug.
Vincent Marquis (Trinity) – I usually don’t put players on here from a team who has lost, as Trinity did to Jean Guy, but I couldn’t ignore his stats, as he had 3 grabs for a game-high 70 yards and 2 TDs. On the other side of the ball he an interception, to go along with 3 tackles, and 1 pass defended.
Nicola Centomo (Rolling Thunder) – He had a monster game vs the KRUSADERS as he registered a game-high 5 tackles, and 2 INTs one of which was brought back to the house. On offense, he posted 4 catches for 82 yards and 3 TDs (those were all game-highs as well) Well done sir.
Michael Solimene (The Warriors) – He bounced back from an absolutely miserable game vs the SPARTANS, by going an impressive 17 of 21 for 243 yards and 6 TDs in a highly competitive 39-30 win over Gronky Kong.
Peter Giannis (The Warriors) – He was on the receiving end of a of Solimene’s passes, as he had a game-high 5 catches for 109 yards and 3 TDs.
Josh Levine + Alexis Labonte (Gronky Kong) – Once again, I usually don’t put guys on here from teams who didn’t get the W, but these two had a fantastic game against The Warriors, as they combined for 13 receptions for 174 yards and 4 TDs. Levine even added an INT on defense. Unfortunately their contribution wasn’t enough to get the win, but if they play like that again this week vs the RoadRunners, Gronky Kong might get their first win of the season. Good job guys!
Rahul Mohav (Tigers) – This team is slowly creeping up the standings, and it’s thanks in large part to the steady play of their QB. In his last 3 starts, Mohav has thown 13 TDs and only 1 INT. Coincidentally, his team is on a 3-game winning streak. Keep up the good work!
Jason Kokolakis (Smokin Axolotls) – The FPF veteran had a really solid game against the Super Troopers last Sunday night, with 4 receptions for 38 yards and a TD on offense, and 2 INTs on defense, one of which he ran back for a score. Impressive work.
Brad Evans + Myles Keiller (TDs and Beer) – The dynamic duo struck once again, as they hooked up 6 times for 72 yards and 2 touchdowns, and alomst single-handedly beat Dirty Mike n the Boys. The two have found each other 10 times this season for TDs. Will see the magical mark of 20 before the regular season is all said and done?
Who took the fall…
Offense – As I said at the top, it’s currently Week 7. Yes, as I stated above, defenses came out to play this week, but how are we still seeing shutouts this late in the season? Like any other football, or even sports league, yes there are obviously some teams that are better than others, but as I said since the begining of the year, this is an offensive league. Every team should be able to at least get the ball in the endzone once a game. This is a pretty sad stat, but we have seen at least one goose egg on the scoreboard every week this season. Come on guys Step It Up!!!
Joshua Hildago-Trivilidis (FACE Jazz) and Eric Peault (Permian Panthers) – In a first ever for this section, I am picking two QBs from the same game who play on opposite teams. I know I mentioned this earlier, but to get a real breakdown of the ugliness that went on at the position, the former went 1 of 6 for 11 yards with 1 TD pass, and 3 interceptions. In short, the FACE Jazz pivot had more completions to the other team than his own receivers. That just can’t happen. Peault wasn’t much better, as he went 8 of 19 for 61 yards, with 1 TD and 5 interceptions (4 of them to FACE Jazz two-way player Eddy Rousseau, who ran back 2 for scores!!!!) You guys know my rule about INTs and completions hovering around the same mark. I might need to make one up about throwing more than 2 picks to the same DB. Step It Up guys, you’re better than that.
Ainsley Dejoie (KRUSADERS) – I know first hand, it’s extremely hard for first year QBs in our league, but after a certain point, you have to stop cutting them some slack, and they need to preform. Dejoie performed, but unfortunately for him and his team, it was to the benefit of the other team, as he went 6 of 18 for 34 yards and and 4 interceptions in his team’s 31-0 loss to the Rolling Thunder. The loss marked the second week in a row that the KRUSADERS have been shut out. Maybe it’s time to change things up at the position.
Gabriel Wiseman (Super Troopers) – I was looking forward to watching he and his team’s aformentioned game against the Smokin’ Axolotls. Unfortunately for the the team in white, their QB had arguably his worst game of the year, as he went 10 of 19 for 78 yards with 1 TD and 4 INTs. Hopefully he can bounce back tomorrow against Beastmode.
Match-ups
Rahul Mohav (Tigers) versus Cedric Jette-Lemay (Aliens)
Jette-Lemay, the division’s leading sack-master with 16, taking on one of the hottest QBs as of late in Mohav. This should be a huge and entertaining match-up, as Mohav loves to scramble. and buy time for his receivers to get open. Needless to say, whoever wins this battle will give their team a big win.
Gyr versus the SPARTANS
Yeah, I know this is cheating a bit, but I honestly feel that this will be an awesome game. Can the speed of Gyr matchup against the size of the SPARTANS? Will Nathanael Niedermann be able to contain the rotating QB duo of James D’Andrea and Alexis Bessette? Will Charles-David Martel be able to frustrate PJ Belec? With the SPARTANS defense missing CB Daniel Hernandez for this game, who will be able to cover the speddy Daniel Chan?
Michael Solimene (The Warriors) versus the Suh-Tang Clan defense
Solimene and his 25 TD passes tied for 3rd best in Div. E) take on a Suh-Tang Clan defense that is filled with players who have played in big games during their FPF tenure including Alex Grey and Michael Timmis, and Justin Santillo. This is The Warriors second real of the season, and their first since they were beaten soundly by another defense-first team in the SPARTANS, 25-12 in Week 5. This is a statement game for Solimene and his squad. Let’s see what kind they make.

- 1- Spartans (6-0)
- 2- TDs and Beer (6-0) (+1)
- 3- Les Bonhommes Jaune (6-0) (-1)
- 4- Gyr (5-1)
- 5- Smokin Axolotls (5-1) (+1)
- 6- The Warriors (5-1) (-1)
- 7- Suh Tang Clan (4-1-1)
- 8- Aliens (4-2-1) (+1)
- 9- Tigers (4-2) (+2)
- 10- Jean Guy (4-2) (-1)
J’en profite aussi pour noter mon top 3 à chaque rôle.
QB1- Brad Evans (TDs and Beer)2- James D’Andrea (Spartans)3- Michael Solimene (The Warriors)
WR1- Justin Lerner (RoadRunners)2- Alexis Bessette (Spartans)3- Jameel Greenidge (Tigers)
DB1- Sam Villafuerte (The Warriors)2- Simon Viens (Les Huards)3- Jason Kokolatis (Smokin Axolotls(
Rusher1- Cédrick Jetté-Lemay (Aliens)2- Nathanael Niederman (Gyr)3- Alex Tores (TDs and Beer)
(Game of the Week)
Je vous dis à la semaine prochaine, je tenterai d’être présent aux matchs de mardi à Brossard aussi. Sinon bonne chance à toutes les équipes!
