Division 4B Report Cards
I’m late, I have no excuses. I apologize. Anyways, the article is here and have fun reading. I will be grading teams based on my expectations, and I will also give a rating for offense and defense.
Grading system
A: Your team exceeded expectations and deserves recognition.
B: Your team slightly exceeded expectations but perhaps doesn’t deserve to be here.
C: Your team is exactly where it should be.
D: You are playing below expectations.
E: You shouldn’t be where you are and I’m disappointed.
Let’s start from the bottom.
Monkeys, 0-7, 24PF, 343PA
Offense: E
There’s nothing positive going on offensively for this team and the turnovers are off the charts.
Defense: D
This team’s defense is actually not too shabby compared to the offense. 6 picks and 10PDs through 7 games is more than acceptable for a new team.
Grade: E
I expected better, despite it being a new team, but this is one of the least competitive teams in the history of FPF. Start over in the lowest division possible and go from there.
Mengoose, 1-5, 144PF, 144PA
Offense: B
Felix-Antoine Lavigne has been solid but just hasn’t been able to close out games with wins. There’s plenty of talent offensively on this team starting with CO Lavigne.
Defense: C
This team’s defense isn’t great and hasn’t helped its QB. One interception per game is okay, but nothing great. 13PDs and 5 sacks is bang average as well.
Grade: E
This team is much better than 1-5 and just hasn’t been able to be clutch. Close losses have killed this team’s record and puts them in a sticky situation to make the playoffs. Losing to SDU might cost them a playoff spot. They have to beat Monkeys and hope SDU doesn’t win again.
Scrum-Diddly-Umptious, 1-7, 175PF, 308PA
Offense: C
The offense isn’t that bad. Caleb Bryson has moved the ball with his feet and through the air but 9 INTs and 10 sacks is rough for any team to overcome. Callan King and Kalan Despa have been studs offensively.
Defense: E
The defense is terrible and it seems super easy for opposing teams to score against them. 5INTs in 7 games is not enough. They’re allowing 44 points per game which is very bad.
Grade: C
You’re exactly where I thought you’d be, probably missing out on playoffs. I was almost tempted to give you guys a B considering the win against Mengoose but no. You guys are solid offensively but need to figure out that defense.
Voodoo, 2-5, 159PF, 179PA
Offense: D
This was a tricky one to grade because I believe there is a lot of talent offensively. Patrick St-Amand, Samuel Tavernier, Jimmy Comeault, Martin Bergeron, Hugo De Souza are all talented, but Frank Kaye has held this team back so much it’s painful.
Defense: B
10 picks through 7 games is acceptable. Cyril Jamal Belfort has been very disappointing with only 2 sacks in those games. I’ve seen you play, you are pretty fast and have a good base but you need to work on your breakdown and using your length to get into QB’s faces.
Grade: E
With so much talent, it’s hard to give anything more than an E. This is a very disappointing record considering all the talent.
4th and Schlong, 3-3, 174PF, 164PA
Offense: B+
George Koutsoukos has been great. He doesn’t throw that many picks but he does get sacked a bit too often. The ball is being spread very well and many players have amassed solid stats.
Defense: D
Only 4 picks in 6 games is bad, and has held this team back a lot. The team has turned it around in their past 3 games with 3 straight wins but I need to see more.
Grade: D
I expected better than a 3-3 record for such a talented and experienced team, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they win out from now on.
Ball Don’t Lie, 3-4, 160PF, 154PA
Offense: C
Kyle Greenbaum is amassing a good amount of yards but throws too many picks, with 12 in 7 games. Raph Dagenais and Jake Greenbaum have done solid offensively as well.
Defense: A
This team’s defense is very solid, picking off the opposing QB 12 times and getting a whopping 24PDs, wow.
Grade: C
I expected this team to be average and they have been. If Greenbaum can protect the ball better, this team has a chance at making a playoff run.
Team Sexy, 3-2, 159PF, 117PA
Offense: C
It’s kind of weird to give this team a C on offense considering how good they’ve been on that side of the ball in the past, but it’s accurate for this season. Benjamin Berbrier hasn’t moved the ball well and has thrown 8 picks and gotten sacked 8 times in 5 games. The 21TDs are nice but he needs to be more careful with his decisions.
Defense: B+
7 picks, 7 sacks, 19PDs in 5 games is really good. Jeremy Steinberg has rushed opposing QBs well, and the team has defended passes proficiently. I’m not giving an A here because I think they can do even better, especially Sam Anastasopoulos who’s only got 1 pick surprisingly.
Grade: D
I expected better all in all. They’ve lost to 2 good teams but got completely outclassed versus X-Men. With a pretty easy schedule down the line I think this team will comfortably end with at least 7 wins, but are they false kings? Perhaps.
Dak to the Future, 3-3, 158PF, 112PA
Offense: C-
Justin Gauthier’s stats don’t pop off but aren’t bad. Unfortunately, they’re resting on 2 games, which were against Monkeys and SDU. The rest of the season has been a struggle. Other than Maxime Charkaoui and Jeremy Laplante I see no other real offensive threat.
Defense: B+
The defense is solid though, with 12 picks and 20PDs. Justin Gauthier has been the leader defensively with 5 picks, and Lou-Felix Roy-Lachappelle has been great at rusher with 5 sacks and 5PDs.
Grade: C
I wasn’t that high on this team and I think they’re exactly where I thought they’d be at .500. Unfortunately, I foresee trouble ahead with 3 tough games out of the remaining 4.
Killer Rays, 4-2, 179PF, 174PA
Offense: B
Tylar Bianchi has missed two games, but in the 4 that he was there, he’s been more than good. Obviously, we can’t talk about Killer Rays without mentioning Tyler Gurberg who’s once again been phenomenal with 421 yards and 12TDs in 5 games.
Defense: B
11 picks, 7 sacks, 10PDs is very good, but not elite tier. What’s encouraging is that this defensive production is coming from across the roster, which shows this team’s solid depth.
Grade: C
Once again, this team is exactly where expected, which is better than average but not a contender just yet. Beating Les Renards Vifs is phenomenal, but losing to Pocket Rockets without being that close tells me everything I need to know: This team is inconsistent. That’s probably one of the worst things a team can be in FPF, because of single-game elimination.
The Wolf Pack, 4-2, 130PF, 152PA
Offense: C
James D’Andrea isn’t great. His 17TDs in 6 games aren’t enough and he’s averaging more than a pick and a sack per game. How good would this offense be without Andrew “Flash” Grant? Not very good in my opinion.
Defense: C+
9 picks, 5 sacks and 13PDs in 6 games is kind of average for this division. The production is coming from multiple players defensively so that’s encouraging.
Grade: A
I’m not going to lie, I didn’t think this team stood much of a chance in 4B but they more than held their ground. I think this team will regress but credit is definitely due, they’ve won some big games.
Pocket Rockets, 4-2, 204PF, 143PA
Offense: A
Jean-Francois Marquis has been phenomenal at the QB position. He’s averaging 5 passing TDs per game and only throws 1 pick per game on average. He also barely gets sacked. The addition of Gabriel-Charles Dabe-Champagne has obviously been massive and he’s dominated with 329 yards and 9TDs in 5 games. The supporting cast is also solid.
Defense: B
The defensive production is coming mostly from GCDB and that might be an issue down the line. He can shut down an entire side of the field and that is massive. Unfortunately, this team lacks depth on this side of the ball and that might hurt in the playoffs.
Grade: A
I thought this team would struggle but they haven’t. Marquis and GCDB have been two of the best players in all of 4B and have propelled this team to a legit contender.
X-Men, 5-1, 232PF, 138PA
Offense: A
Noah Swaminadhan has yet to throw a pick and the team has thrown for a combined 31TDs. Noah has gotten sacked 7 times which isn’t great but not awful either. There are so many offensive weapons on this team it’s actually ridiculous.
Defense: A-
12 picks, 9 sacks, 14PDs in 6 games is really good. Emerson Peterkin has 6 of those picks and has shown his potential. This team is young and prone to errors though. I just can’t give an A to a team which allowed 39 points to SDU.
Grade: C
I knew this team was going to be really good and a contender, and despite the 5-1 record, I kind of feel like there’s more there than has been shown. They haven’t been as dominant as they could be.
The Penetrators, 5-1, 180PF, 80PA
Offense: B
This team doesn’t score that many points. Justin Goodman hasn’t been able to move the ball as efficiently as expected and throws below 4TDs per game.
Defense: A+
I’m almost tempted to give them an A++. What an amazing defense. 16 picks, 12 sacks, 23PDs in 6 games is crazy. Nicholas Fon is the best rusher in this division with 11 sacks and 8PDs. Matthew Caponi is one of the best defenders with 6INTs, 1 sack, 6PDs and a pick 6.
Grade: B
They’ve been even more dominant on defense than I expected and haven’t done too bad on offense either. I think this team is a legit contender with that defense but gosh it could get complicated if Justin Goodman struggles.
Les Renards Vifs, 7-1, 304PF, 174PA
Offense: A++
I’m doing it, I’m giving an A++. Jacob Salvail has been going absolutely bonkers, and despite the 5 INTs, he scores so fast I don’t even mind it. He’s averaging more than 5.6TDs per game, and he’s been incredibly good on converts. 28 points off converts is amazing. The ball spreading has been amazing as well.
Defense: B
While the offense has been incredible, the defense hasn’t been nearly as prolific. Only 6 picks in 8 games is very low for a contending team. 14 sacks is very solid though.
Grade: C
I expected this team to be dominant, and it has been, but only on one side of the ball. Their loss to Killer Rays lowered expectations early on but they’ve bounced back fantastically with 7 wins in a row. Is this team a lock to win it all? Not at all in my opinion. There are some other really solid teams and despite their offense being so good, I am a firm believer that defense matters more.
Penetrators vs. Les Renards Vifs this sunday is going to be the game of the season, and should show us who are the true favorites of this division. I will be there to watch.
Thank you for reading.
