Division 3 Resurrection, Community Question Period and 100,000 reasons to say Good Bye to the NFL

Well, well, well, I have to welcome back readers to the Division 3 article! It’s Iggy Magnets here taking over the in-depth coverage of Division 3 in the form of articles. If you’ve read my stuff before, I try and give the storylines that grow throughout the season in the division, provide the inside scoop on what’s going on with teams, injuries, key victories, heartbreaking losses and outstanding performances, all on a weekly basis.

With the Super Bowl this past weekend now in the rear view mirror, we bid farewell to the NFL season. Here’s my take on the Overtime. SF made the RIGHT choice taking the ball first. If both teams score a TD, they get the ball first for the 3rd possession, which would be the true “next possession wins”. Either way, with the ball first, you cannot go conservative and go for the Field Goal when Mahomes is on the other side. There are 2 FPF comparables in my eyes, both involve playing against Kevin Wyeth (Congrats btw, to Mr. 100,000 All-Time Passing yards; the best to ever do it). So one scenario is your playing vs. Wyeth and you have the ball with 4 plays remaining and you are inside the 5 yard line. You absolutely have to burn 3 plays and try and score on the final play to give 0 plays to Wyeth. You do not give Wyeth the ball back or you are bound to lose. I’d rather lose by the defense stopping me than giving the ball back to Kevin. Even with 1 play, I’m not giving him the ball.

The second FPF equivalent is if your facing off in OT against him and going first and deciding to go for 1. Why? You just lost the game by going for 1. Even if you hit it, he’s just as confident going for 2 and you just awarded yourself a loss. Go for 2, make him tie you and not BEAT you. San Fran gave Mahomes the ball and handed them the Super Bowl the second they went for the FG. Play against anyone else not named Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes, and go ahead and kick that FG. Ok, that’s it for the NFL, as we bid you farewell. See you in 206 days!

Week 6 Headlines

  • 4 teams remain undefeated after 6 Weeks: EZW, Lightweight, Bruins, Dime and Bougie
  • Simon Dagenais is back baby! He’s the only QB to have eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark in just 4 games and is the only QB who has yet to throw an interception. He is slicing, dicing and throwing bombs against Division 3 defenses, all while protecting the rock. With the athletes to back up that canon of an arm, he’s got Lightweight looking like a stud offense early on that will pose problems for any defense.
  • There are 5 QB’s with a QBR of 125.0 or more: Simon Dagenais, Jeremy White, Kris Verreault, AJ Gomes and Brady Ohanessian.
  • Interesting Stat: Almost 40% of teams in Division 3 have 3 wins or more. Only 2 of those 10 teams have played 5 games or more.
  • The teams with only 3 Games Played will be interesting to follow in the coming weeks to see how they climb or stay low in the standings: Bruins, Dime and Bougie, Dirty Birds, Sharks, The Infantry, Mel’s Angels, Wide Open Bar
  • EZW and that high-powered offense took it to the Greendale Human Beings, who just had no answer for Jeremy White and his boys, doubling them down 52-25.
  • Minions of Migdesyan gave Kiss My Inlaws a run for their money in their matchup on Monday night in St. Laurent. With the game tied at 28, M.O.M would go for 1 and miss it. That left 5 plays for KMI to drive the field and win it on the final play of the game. Vince Benjamin had the game-winning TD to put KMI at 3-1 and M.O.M at 1-3.
  • Nathan Desjardins had himself a game against GHB, the only player this week with a hat-trick of TD’s. He went off for 71 yards on 4 catches, the 3 TDs and 2 sacks. Clearly EZW sent Nathan Desjardins for his height to disrupt the classic Danny Aylward lob over the middle to snapper Alex Joltopuf. Still, Joltopuf had his usual 9 receptions on 10 targets for 74 yards and 1 TD.
  • Don’t look now, but there are 2 Beer Belly receivers atop the receiving TD category. Olivier Claveau and Nicolas Curotte have combined for a whopping 17 TD’s in 9 combined games
  • From 3-6-1 last season, Speed Academy are struggling out of the gate, sitting at 0-4 with only 32 points for. Is Speed Academy now a Division 4 team?
  • Mongoose have one of the better offenses in the division, but Alex Gaudet, who usually sure-handed and protects the ball better, has already thrown 7 INTs in 4 games; no doubt a key reason why they are sitting at 2-3.
  • Man, Etienne Laurence-Gervais already with 9 INT’s after 4 games is just nuts! Crazy defensive performance so far this season.
  • Beer Belly has been the early talk on CTA this year, but they suffered their first defeat against Lightweight. Still, Alex Fafard is putting up Top 3 Passing Stats and is clearly the top runner in the Division, but Blue Chips’ Jordan Mitchell is right behind the running Fafard.
  • After not playing since Winter 2020 with the Super Saiyans, Gianni Johnston is back with the Backyard Bullies and is racking up the sacks. He’s your sack leader after 6 weeks into the season. Tied for 2nd with 5 sacks is Charles Olivier Vachon, Felix Boutet, and Ethan Adrian.
  • Two of the crazier reception-to-target ratios has to be Antoine Préfontaine (Arouch), catching 97.8% of the passes from Eric Lalonde, catching 45 of the 46 targets gone his way. The other is David De Andrade and his 100% reception completion, going 25 for 25
  • Is Arouch’s Eric Lalonde having a good season so far? Answer the poll below!

Community Question Period

I asked 4 players from 4 different teams, the same four questions to find out what they think about the different groups:

  1. Who’s the best offense in Group A? What makes them the best offensive team?
  2. Who’s the best defense in Group B? What makes them the best D?
  3. Who’s has the best WR core in Group C? What is it about them that made you choose them?
  4. Who’s the best QB in Group D? What’s their strongest attribute?

Note that players were told that if they play in one of the groups, they could not select their own team/player on their team.

We start with Mathew Zeppetelli of Group C’s Minions of Migdesyan. Mat is taking quite the leap from one winter season to the next. While he is also throwing in Division 4 this season, I can’t remember another QB who jumped 2 divisions in one calendar year. The guy went from throwing in Div 5 (made it to the Finals) in one season to now challenging himself in Division 3. Kudos to the guy.

Group A: Even though Jeremy White has no idea who I am, I’ve watched a lot of his games on YouTube. He’s in that spot right now where he still has his young athleticism but also has a ton of flag knowledge. This makes him one of the best QB’s in the div. He’s the driver of that offence and is able to spread the offense amongst all 5 receivers like no other.

Group B: The Bruins are a team blessed by God himself. They’re absolutely stacked everywhere and their defense is solid at every single position. Rocco (Christiano) over the middle is the the cherry on top.

Group C: Close between Dirty Birds and Kiss my Inlaws. Dirty Birds legit have a former CFL player, but KMI is so deep that Vincent Benjamin is their 4th receiver. If it was last season I would say Dirty Birds, but I’ll give the slight edge to KMI rn

Group D: Close between (Jules) Regimbald and (Simon) Dagenais. Last time we played Dime and Bougie they kicked our ass and Regimbald was throwing 50 yard bombs every play. Dagenais has all the experience in the world though. I would lean Regimbald because of my PTSD.

You hear that Jules? Stop tormenting players 🤣😅

Next, we get the opinion of another QB, this time Kris Verreault of the Bruins in Group B. Kris has had an exceptional start to the season with all the teams he is quarterbacking, but impressively, he is leading all Division 3 QB’s, averaging 6 TD’s per game.

Group A: Has to be EZW, the points scored speak for themselves. The fact that the ball gets spread out a ton makes them even more dangerous.

Group B: I’d say The Infantry. They have a great rusher in Ethan Adrian and a couple guys that can take the ball away at any time, including the Semerjian brothers.

Group C: Kiss My Inlaws for sure. Having James Drysdale in div 3 is unfair, and add Vincent Benjamin and that’s a really solid WR core.

Group D: It’s between Jules Regimbald and Simon Dagenais. Dagenais has the FPF experience but Jules has a crazy arm and is more elusive than he looks. I’ll go with Jules for this one.

Next up is one of the best 2-way players not just in Division 3, but in all of FPF. He’s playing once against with his BrotherHood boys in Group A, sitting at 3-1, so let’s see what Quaysie Gordon-Maule thinks about the Division’s Groups.

Group A: EZW. The main core group of guys have been playing together since 2018, starting back in Division E with Jeremy White as QB. Since then, he has just gotten way better now playing in division 3. By far one of the best offenses chemistry-wise.

Group B: The best defense in Group B is That’s What She Said. They lead the division with 7 interceptions as a unit and have one of the lowest PA’s as well.

Group C: The best WR core I would have to say is Kiss My Inlaws. They are a very well balanced group of guys and with with the addition of James Drysdale, it helps open up the field in my ways.

Group D: The best QB in Group D is the one and only hall of fame SIMON DAGENAIS!! He leads the Division in Passing yards, is 2nd in Passing touchdowns and has thrown 0 picks. His strongest attribute is understanding the game of flag, which is huge as a Quarterback, and is often able to put his team in situations to win games.

We wrap up this segment with Group D’s Dime and Bougie’s own Jerome Hovington, as he lets us know what he thinks about the Division’s best offense, defense, receiving core and best QB. But now he can’t pick Jules, so will he go with Simon Dagenais for the best QB in Group D?

Group A best offense: EZW. Jeremy White has proven to be elite and there are too many receiving threats for most teams to handle. The dominance of Alexandre Barros, the dynamism of JC Ferland and C-O Lavigne and the big threat of Nathan Desjardins is what makes this team so dominant offensively.

Group B best defense: That’s what she said. Antoine Roberge, Jean-Michel Alerte and Mike Pierrecin have already combined for 7 interceptions through 4 games. Those three on the same defense makes it tough for any QB to throw.

Group C Best WR Core: Kiss My Inlaws. Obviously James Drysdale is a dominant force and would put any receiving core near the top of any team in Div3, but now add to that stud Vince Benjamin, the speedy Lucas Quenneville and the ever reliable snapper David De Andrade and we’re talking about potentially the best WR core in all of Div3.

Group D Best QB: Simon Dagenais. The Hall of Famer has been on an absolute tear so far this season going 22:0, while already amassing more than 1000 yards in only 4 games. While there will probably be some regression coming, it will be interesting to see if he can lead this Lightweight team to a championship.

Alright, we heard from 4 players in Division C, but what say you? Answer the questions yourself and see what the rest of the Division thinks!

Alright, that does it for my return to the articles! Hope you enjoyed some of the newer content to my articles and glad to be back covering divisions! Next week, watch out for a mid-season report card on all the teams. Unlike past seasons, it will be more concise, with a grade for your offense, the team defense and an overall grade, with 50-75 word paragraph for each team.

Hope to see you all in action on the fields, as Week 7 gets on its way this Saturday! Good luck to everyone and go ball out!
