Division 3 Article: Playoff Preview Part 1

Welcome to the FlagPlus Football Division 3 article.

Yes, you read that correctly, we are moving back to our original article format for the time being.

With the playoffs just a short two weeks away, we as a staff, decided to give a playoff breakdown of each and every division.

I know it’s been a while, and for some, long overdue, so here we go…

Playoff Preview Part 1

Conference A

Trinity (7-1)

They are tied for first place in Conference A with KGP, but they hold the head-to-head tiebreaker, as they defeated them (26-19) in Week 3.

With their remaining games coming against non playoffs teams, Trinity, should have no problem hanging on to the top spot.

Remaining Opponents: Game Changers (2-7) and Olympia Performance (0-8).

KGP (7-1)

As I just said, KGP, lost the head-to-head matchup versus Trinity, which would give them first place in Conference A, if both teams were to have identical records at the end of the regular season.

Currently up two points on the third place Junkyard Dogs, who KGP beat (29-20) in Week 7, KGP, will either need to win out to finish in second, or hope that JYD, losses one of their remaining two games.

Remaining Opponents: Past Our Prime (3-5) and District (3-5).

Junkyard Dogs (6-3)

This team has lost two out of their last three contests. With one game remaining before the post-season, the Junkyard Dogs, will need to beat the Dirty Dawgs, Saturday night in Lachine, or hope that the 69ers lose both of their remaining games, and that Easy Jake Oven, loses their regular season finale, Sunday night versus the Backyard Bullies, to maintain their hold on third place.

Remaining Opponent: Dirty Dawgs (4-3-1).

69ers (5-3)

They could finish as high as second, or as low as ninth. To ensure the former, or at least break the tie they currently have with Easy Jake Oven for fourth place, the 69ers, will need to either win both of their final two regular season games, or emerge victorious in one, and hope that EJO, losses their last game this Sunday, against the Backyard Bullies.

If the 69ers were to lose their final two games, they would need the Dirty Dawgs, Backyard Bullies, Pineapple Express, and Sweet & Beers, to lose at least one of their final two games, to ensure they make the playoffs.

Remaining Opponents: District (3-5) and Pineapple Express (4-4).

Easy Jake Oven (5-4)

As I said earlier, they close the regular season with a game against the Backyard Bullies.

A win for Easy Jake Oven, would not only see them qualify for the playoffs, but could potentially put them as high third in Conference A.

On the flip side, a loss by Easy Jake Oven to the Bullies, combined with wins by the Dirty Dawgs, Pineapple Express, and Sweat & Beers, could see EJO, miss the post-season all together.

Remaining Opponent: Backyard Bullies (4-4).

Dirty Dawgs (4-3-1)

In sole possession of sixth place, they are only one point ahead of a three-way tie for the seventh seed in Conference A, between the Backyard Bullies, Pineapple Express, and Sweat & Beers.

While the Dirty Dawgs have the head-to-head tiebreaker over Pineapple Express, they were on the receiving end of a (48-0) beat down by the Backyard Bullies.

All of the above, makes the Dawgs’ regular season finale against Sweat & Beers, that much more important.

Before they get there however, the Dawgs take on the Junkyard Dogs in a battle of the dogs (Where my dogs at?) tomorrow night at Lachine.

A win for the Dirty Dawgs versus the Junkyard Dogs, wouldn’t clinch a playoff spot, but it would put pressure on the Backyard Bullies, Pineapple Express, and Sweat & Beers, to have to win their remaining two games each, to knock the Dirty Dawgs out of the post-season.

Remaining Opponents: Junkyard Dogs (6-3) and Sweat and Beers (4-4)

Backyard Bullies (4-4)

They have won two in a row, and because of it, are at the top of the aforementioned of the three team race for the seven seed. That’s the positive.

The negative for the Backyard Bullies, is that they close the regular season, with games against Easy Jake Oven, and Past Our Prime.

If the Bullies win out, they will secure a playoff spot, and potentially finish as high as fourth, provided the Dirty Dawgs, 69ers, and Easy Jake Oven, lose all of their remaining games.

If the Bullies go (1-1), they will need either Pineapple Express, or Sweat & Beers to do the same, in order to clinch a spot.

Remaining Opponents: Easy Jake Oven (5-4) and Past Our Prime (3-5).

Pineapple Express (4-4)

They picked up a huge, and much-needed (30-26) win last week, over the Greendale Human Beings (more on them in a bit).

To qualify for the playoffs, Pineapple Express, simply needs to win their two remaining games, against Olympia Performance, and the 69ers, respectively.

If Pineapple Express goes (1-1) in those games, they can still make the playoffs, provided Sweat & Beers, the Greendale Human Beings, Past Our Prime, and District do the same.

If the guys in yellow somehow manage to go (0-2), they will need Sweat & Beers, and the Greendale Human Beings to do the same, have Past Our Prime, and District to go (1-1), and give up more points against than Pineapple Express has allowed.

Remaining Opponents: Olympia Performance (0-8) and 69ers (5-3).

Sweat & Beers (4-4)

They have a huge opportunity to not only leapfrog Pineapple Express, and the Backyard Bullies, with a win over the Greendale Human Beings, Sweat & Beers, can also deal a crushing blow to GHB, as they currently sit one point behind Sweat & Beers for ninth place in Conference A.

A loss to the Greendale Human Beings tomorrow in Lachine, could see them fall to tenth, but it could also potentially see Sweat & Beers, tumble all the way to twelfth, if both Past Our Prime, and District, win their games this week.

Remaining Opponents: Greendale Human Beings (3-5-1) and Dirty Dawgs (4-3-1).

Greendale Human Beings (3-5-1)

As I just stated above, if the Greendale Human Beings win their regular finale tomorrow versus Sweat & Beers, they would leapfrog not only S&B, but it could potentially see them vault all the way to the six spot, provided they finish with less points allowed than the Dirty Dawgs, who they tied (34-34) in Week 2 (The Dirty Dawgs have the edge by 26 points), and provided Pineapple Express, Sweat & Beers, Backyard Bullies, and Dirty Dawgs all lose as well.

A more likely scenario, is GHB, taking the seventh or eighth seed, if they beat Sweat & Beers, and two out of those other three teams suffer a defeat.

A loss by GHB, would guarantee they miss the playoffs.

Remaining Opponent: Sweat & Beers (4-4).

District (3-5)

Without a doubt, they have the toughest remaining schedule among virtually any team in Division 3, as they face the 69ers, and KGP.

If District, can do the unthinkable, and pull off the back-to-back upsets, they would assure themselves a spot in the dance, if Pineapple Express, losses one of their final two games, or the Backyard Bullies, lose both of their remaining contests.

On the flipside, if District finishes (1-1), they wouldn’t be able to catch the Backyard Bullies for seventh, as they lost to the Bullies (36-22) in Week 2, but they would be able to finish in the eight spot, provided Pineapple Express, losses their final two games.

Remaining Opponents: 69ers (5-3) and KGP (7-1).

Past Our Prime (3-5)

They have the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Greendale Human Beings, but they lose it against both Pineapple Express, and District.

For Past Our Prime, to jump from 12th to the eight spot, they need to win both of their games (one of them is against the Greendale Human Beings who sit one point ahead), hope that Pineapple Express, loses their last two, and that both District, and GHB lose at least one of their final two games.

If Past Our Prime goes (1-1), they will lose the head-to-head tiebreaker with District and Pineapple Express, even if both teams lose their last two, so they would then need to make sure they finish with less points against, where they currently trail both teams.

Remaining Opponents: KGP (7-1) and Backyard Bullies (4-4).

Game Changers (2-7)

With only one regular season game remaining, they are too far back in the standings to catch anybody for the eight seed.

The Game Changers, can however play spoiler, as they take on Trinity, who are trying to hold off KGP, for first place in Conference A.

Remaining Opponent: Trinity (7-1).

Olympia Performance (0-8)

Although they won’t match their 2019 Winter Season record of (2-7-1), Olympia Performance can play spoiler, as they take on Pineapple Express, and Trinity to close the regular season.

Will Olympia Performance get their first win?

Remaining Opponents: Pineapple Express (4-4) and Trinity (7-1).

Conference B

The BrotherHood (9-0)

The path to perfection continues.

Last year’s Division 3 runner’s up, are on the verge of completing a perfect regular season, if they can knock off All Hooks, Monday night at Stade Hebert.

Remaining Opponent: All Hooks (4-5).

The Crew (6-2-1)

First place is out of reach, but for The Crew, who are currently one point up on Les Maloudes and Keyport Lock for second, will need to win their final game this weekend, when they take on the Loups.

An upset loss to the Loups, and wins by both Les Maloudes and Keyport Lock, would drop The Crew, all the way down to fifth place.

Remaining Opponent: Loups (1-7-1).

Les Maloudes (6-3)

Although both Les Maloudes, and Keyport Lock, have identical (6-3) records, Les Maloudes, get the edge for third place, due to their (26-18) win over Jeff Rosenblatt’s team back in Week 7.

A win over The Commission this Sunday, in their regular season finale, would not only insure that they finish with sole possession of third, but they could jump into second, if The Crew, lose to the Loups.

A loss by Les Maloudes this Sunday, could see them fall all the way to fifth, if both the Keyport Lock, and Martine et le Flag, emerge victorious.

Remaining Opponent: The Commission (2-5-1).

Keyport Lock (6-3)

To jump the jump into second place, Keyport Lock, needs to beat the Lonzo Ballers, and have The Crew, lose to the Loups.

To finish third, Keyport Lock, needs to win, and have Les Maloudes, lose to The Commission.

If Keyport Lock were to lose, they would drop down to the fifth place, if Martine et le Flag, defeat La Brume, and The Commission.

Remaining Opponent: Lonzo Ballers (1-7)

Martine et le Flag (5-2-1)

Their playoff spot is finalized, but where they finish the regular season is not.

If Martine et le Flag win their last two games, they would finish in second place, as long as The Crew, Les Maloudes, and Keyport Lock, loss or tie their final game.

If they win one of their two remaining games, they could either stay in fifth, or end up to third place, provided both Les Maloudes, and Keyport Lock, lose their final game.
MELF, could jump as high as second, if The Crew, lose their final contest, and Martin

e et le Flag, finish with less points allowed. As of press time, the difference was 41 points, in favor of The Crew.

Remaining Opponents: La Brume (2-5-1) and The Commission (2-5-1).

All Hooks (4-5)

With only one game left on their schedule, All Hooks, can’t go any higher than sixth place.

If All Hooks were to lose their final game this Monday against The BrotherHood, they could drop to eighth, if both the BearSkins, and Jagerbomb win out.

Theoretically, the only team who could knock All Hooks out of the playoffs, are The Commission, who defeated them (45-32) in Week 4. TC, would need to win their last two games, All Hooks would need to lose their final contest, and both Jagerbomb and the BearSkins, would need to win out for that scenario to happen.

Remaining Opponent: The BrotherHood (9-0).

BearSkins (4-5)

They are tied points wise with All Hooks for the six seed, but drop down to the seven spot, due to their (32-27) loss to them in Week 7.

To pass All Hooks in the standings, the BearSkins, need to beat Jagerbomb (more on them in a bit), and have All Hooks, lose against The BrotherHood.

Despite getting a huge (33-14) win over The Commission last Sunday at Loyola, the BearSkins, aren’t totally in the clear, as they are only one point up on eighth place Jagerbomb, and three points up on the aforementioned The Commission.

A win gets them in, but a loss combined with wins by Jagerbomb and The Commission in their final two games, could see last year’s reigning champs be on the outside looking in.

Remaining Opponent: Jagerbomb (3-4-1).

Jagerbomb (3-4-1)

The highest they can finish is sixth, due to a (35-20) loss to Martine et le Flag in Week 9.

Win and their in, it’s as simple as that.

The added bonus for Jagerbomb however, is with a victory over the BearSkins. That scenario would not only allow them to jump from the eighth spot to the seventh, but potentially into sixth place, if All Hooks, loses to The BrotherHood, as Jagerbomb, has the head-to-head tiebreaker against All Hooks, courtesy of (31-29) victory in Week 2.

If Jagerbomb, can also beat the Lonzo Ballers to close the regular season, it would guarantee them the six spot, as both the BearSkins and All Hooks, only have one game left.

Remaining Opponent: BearSkins (4-5) and Lonzo Ballers (1-7).

The Commission (2-5-1)

They haven’t won a game in over a month, but a victory over Les Maloudes, combined with a Jagerbomb loss to the BearSkins, would tie The Commission, with Jagerbomb, for the eighth and final playoff spot in Conference B, as long as they end up with less points scored against.

If The Commission, were able to beat Jagerbomb and Martine et le Flag, to close the regular season, they would only need one of All Hooks or the BearSkins, to lose their final game.

A loss to Les Maloudes this Sunday wouldn’t officially eliminate The Commission, but they would then need to beat Martine et le Flag, and hope that Jagerbomb, losses both of their final two games.

Remaining Opponents: Les Maloudes (6-3) and Martine et le Flag (5-2-1).

La Brume (2-5-1)

They’re left to play the role of spoiler, as even if they beat Martine et le Flag to close their regular season, and Jagerbomb losses their final two games against the BearSkins and Lonzo Ballers.

Despite being tied in points with seven apiece in that scenario, Jagerbomb, would hold the head-to-head tiebreaker, due to their (36-26) Week 6 win over their counterparts.

Remaining Opponent: Martine et le Flag (5-2-1).

Loups (1-7-1)

They are also left to play spoiler, as they will attempt to hand The Crew, their first loss since Week 4, and help out Les Maloudes, Keyport Lock, and potentially Martine et le Flag.

Remaining Opponent: The Crew (6-2-1).

Lonzo Ballers (1-7)

This team has as much talent as anyone in the Division, but they are regulated to the role of spoiler, after a disappointing year.

Beating Keyport Lock and Jagerbomb, would help of number of teams who are breathing down their respective necks.

Remaining Opponents: Keyport Lock (6-3) and Jagerbomb (3-4-1).

That’s it for Part 1 of the playoff preview. Look out for Part 2 next weekend.

Top 10 Rankings

The BrotherHood (9-0)

Last Week: 1st

This Week: 1st

A perfect (10-0) season appears well within reach, as they take on All Hooks, Monday night at Stade Hebert. The path to perfection continues.

KGP (7-1)

Last Week: 2nd

This Week: 2nd

They laid a (52-14) beating on the Game Changers, last Sunday at Loyola. Next up is a meeting with a hard to read Past Our Prime squad, this Wednesday at Baie D’Urfe.

Trinity (7-1)

Last Week: 3rd

This Week: 3rd

A win is a win, but it was an ugly one, as Trinity needed a last second interception by Alexis Gaumont, to earn a (26-25) victory over District.

Let’s see if Trinity can get back to their usual dominant selves, when they take on the Game Changers, Saturday night in Brossard.

Keyport Lock (6-3)

Last Week: 4th

This Week: 4th

Another top team with an ugly win, as they managed to squeak by La Brume, (26-20).
Let’s see if Keyport Lock, can take care of business Sunday night against the Lonzo Ballers.

Martine et le Flag (5-2-1)

Last Week: 7th

This Week: 5th

Due to their convincing (35-20) win over Jagerbomb, and losses by both Les Maloudes, and the Junkyard Dog, who were fifth and sixth respectively last week, Martine et le Flag, rises two spots in the rankings.

A matchup this Wednesday against La Brume, gives MELF, a chance to solidify their ranking.

The Crew (6-2-1)

Last Week: 8

This Week: 6

They took advantage of the absence of Les Maloudes Quarterback Anthony Beauchamp-Frezza, to beat their opponents (35-12).

Let’s see if The Crew, who haven’t lost a game since Week 4, can finish the regular season on a six game winning streak this Sunday, when they take on the Loups.

Les Maloudes (6-3)

Last Week: 5th

This Week: 7th

As I said above, Les Maloudes, got blitzed (35-12) by The Crew, as they were without their starting QB. Anthony Beauchamp-Frezza. Should the gunslinger, be back this week, the team finishes the regular season against The Commission.

Junkyard Dogs (6-3)

Last Week:6th

This Week: 8th

One week after earning a big win over Pineapple Express, the Junkyard Dogs, fell (44-34) to Past Our Prime.

They can finish as high as second place in Conference A. The question that must be answered before they worry about where they’ll end up in the standings, is which Junkyard Dogs team will show up Saturday against the Dirty Dawgs?

Pineapple Express (4-4)

Last Week: 9th

This Week: 9th

They were finally able to snap their three game losing streak, as they snuck by the Greendale Human Beings (26-20).

Before they face a tough matchup versus the 69ers to close the regular season, Pineapple Express, has a warmup test this Sunday, against winless Olympia Performance.

Easy Jake Oven (5-4)

Last Week: Not Ranked

This Week: 10th

They earned a spot on the list, with a (38-36) win over Sweat & Beers.

Truth be told, I was going to put the Backyard Bullies in this spot, after their blowout win over the Dirty Dawgs, but they played the game without their starting Quarterback Ryan Lelinowski, so I decided to go with Easy Jake Oven instead.

As fate would have it, the Bullies, and EJO, square off Sunday night in Lachine, in what could be the Game of the Week. Let’s see what happens.
