Cover Zero (Div C)

It’s a-me-a.

So, I haven’t been fired yet, which is a good thing for most of us. If you’re reading this, you’re included in the previous us.

Week 1 had its share of great and bad moments. I’ve seen games go from great to sloppy to great in a few plays. I’ve also seen flat out sloppy and flat out great. I love week 1 for many reasons.

It’s the story of FPF; week 1 is usually all over the place. We don’t really know what we’re facing, we don’t really know what happened to our team in the offseason and most of us got new toys to play with that we’ve forgot the use of chemistry on a football field.

Overall, I’m very happy with what my division will look like in the next weeks. I believe no teams should be left out and considered a lesser opponent. I also believe that everything happens for a reason, so don’t trust my instincts. I woke up this morning looking forward to writing this article; I must really be happy with the division I’m covering.

Enough with these everlasting introductions, I’m not Peeze. Let’s get down to the real stuff.

Week 2

This week, I don’t have anything special planned. I’m a very classic kind of guy and I believe I need to stick with the game plan from time to time.

There won’t be any contributions this week, after all this is my article, not the media’s. We are censored, but not THAT much.

Players of the Week

My famous segment is back. I’ll try to keep it short week-in and week-out to make sure it remains prestigious. I know you play to see your name here, no need to hide it !

Frédéric Viens (Six Fast Guys Plus Ryan) : Got his team the win with a nice performance in offense and the only interception of the game. Congrats.

James Nowakowski (Project Mayhem) : All over the place both on offense and defense. Definitely his game last week.

Marco Masciotra (Knights) : Shined all the way through the first half to give his team the lead and momemtum deserves praises.

Paul Santache (Game Changers) : Definitely this team’s game changer. His QB, Anton Sakiz looked good, but so did he.

Quick Recaps

Instead of writing two articles where the second one is plain small talk and a few recaps *cough* Justin *cough*, I’ll just go on with the classic lengthy one.

2Fast4Moose

Now, the title got me all excited, but it wasn’t a beat down. There was actually a lot in there to grow from for both teams. Sure, 6Fast got away with the much deserved win, but Moose played tremendous football and also deserves praises. We’ve seen Frédéric Viens prove he’s worthy of mentions all over the place with his clutch interception (the only one of the game too) and taking advantages of the opposing defenses flaws. We’ve also seen Frédéric Morrissette play uncharacteristically on Sunday and have an off-game. I don’t think it’ll happen again soon.

Kevin Lubin’s addition to Moose’s offense is bound to create much more sparks in the following weeks seeing how no one could cover him, even in double coverage.

The Aridi brothers had a bad game, they weren’t clicking, it won’t last. They’ll shine on Week 2 and 6Fast will appreciate it tremendously.

Field day for Masciotra and Lanni

This game started off with my doubts being all over the place. Broccasion didn’t look that confident in facing their old teammate Marco Masciotra, and I had my doubts about the Knights. Well, this went the other way and fast. In the first half, Marco showed he was a force to be reckoned with in Div C when he got 2 TDs on offense and 2 picks including a pick-six on defense. In the second half, Lanni showed he, too, could be dominant and made Broccasion’s offense look a lot worse with another 2 picks including a pick-six of his own.

The Knights’ offense wasn’t the strongest of the night, but their defense definitely is something to tread carefully with. It’s only a question of time before their offense starts clicking and Knights will redeem their dues.

Power Ranking

  1. Six Fast Guys Plus Ryan.Last week, they were on the outside looking in of my ranking. I was the only one who let these guys out of the top 5 on purpose; I had doubts. Well, doubt no more. 6Fast are for real. The best way to be the best is to take out the best.

  1. Predators. Wins will get you climbin’. They’ve took down the #4 seed last week; they climb.

  1. Game Changers. Their offense wasn’t clicking as much as it should be last week, but their defense was and it was scary. It’s just a question of time before their QB gets the hang of his receivers and their offense starts pouring points on the scoreboard. I’m glad they aren’t on my schedule.

  1. Project Mayhem. I doubted Project Mayhem. Peeze didn’t. Here they are. They’ve destroyed my previous second seed and showed that they’ll get the job done no matter what. I might have become a serious fan of the orange.

  1. Game Changers. They were fifth seed last week and they’ve showed their offense can play in Division C. I’m looking forward to their next week matchups, but I believe in this team.

Predictions

After last week’s poor performance going 4/7, I’ll have to redeem myself with week 2. Here are my picks.

Lockdown vs Two and a Half Dans : Gianfranco Ranaudo had a bad first week, but so did Joey Taylor. If Lockdown manages to control the clock more adequately, even if that means attempting those 4th downs, they might end up on the winning side this week. Their corners are fast enough to contain the Dans and they’ll have to rely heavily on that.

Prediction : Lockdown

Zoo vs Dragons : Old teammates facing each other is always bound for a great game. Dragons’ defense really showed up last week to bailout their QB’s mistakes. Don’t expect it to be needed two weeks in a row. ZOO’s offense will try to keep the Dragons offense off the field as much as possible, as they have in the past and they’ve gone strong ever since. The game will be played between Dragons’ rusher and ZOO’s Frank Kaye. Whoever gets the edge will give his team the win.

Prediction : N/A

Project Mayhem vs Predators : Now, this is a hell of a matchup for both teams. A lot on the line for a week 2 game if you ask me. Two possible powerhouses of the division face off in a game that could define the rest of their season. They both played great football last week and they’ll have to double their efforts to bring it home this week. JFlo might need to rely a bit more on his legs to get that defense to open up where Holowach might need to release faster than usual if he wants to get the edge on Predators. Bound to be GOTW in my opinion.

Prediction : Predators

Eskimo Brothers vs Old Farts : Both teams coming off losses will be looking to redeem themselves before the season turns sour. Hopefully, one will. In a matchup of brains vs braun, Eskimo Brothers will rely heavily on their football abilities and Shawn Steen to push themselves forward whereas Jonathan Brown will keep playing like Jonathan Brown plays and find the proper holes in the defense. I think this is a good matchup for Old Farts and they’ll teach a lesson or two to the younger, faster Brothers.

Prediction : Old Farts

The Originals vs BearSkins : I’ve been high on BearSkins, but they let me down in a big way last week. They face a worthy opponent in “Theo’s fantastic squad” and they’ll have to play up to their opponents’ talents if they want to walk out with the W. In a matchup where pure talent is put together with two fairly new QBs, I think it’ll come down to which QB throws the less interception and I believe in Theo Ojeaha this week.

Prediction : The Originals

Moose vs Broccasion : Coming off an ugly loss, Broccasion really needs to step up this week if they don’t want to end up playing catch up this season. Moose’s defense showed a lot of flaws last week when it came down to coverage and tackles. I don’t think it’ll happen again this week and the tackles will be on point. Preventing Cerantola’s running game is key and I think they’ll do that just fine. I still believe in Moose.

Prediction : Moose

Knights vs Six Fast Guys Plus Ryan : This is the matchup I want to see this week. I don’t expect 6Fast to make the same mistake Broccasion made last week and try to pick on Knights’ deep defense. They aren’t that bold. Knights offense will have maintain the ball as long as possible and avoid handing it over too soon. I don’t think Viens will throw many interceptions and I doubt Lanni can throw 7 touchdowns in a single outing. If the winner remains below 30 pts, Knights will win.

Prediction : Six Fast Guys Plus Ryan

Centurions vs Game Changers : In a matchup between two teams facing off in a early season game and rematch of last month’s D5 semi-final, I don’t think we could have asked for better.; a high-octane offense facing off against a well-rounded defense. I like this matchup for Game Changers where Sakiz will be able to show the division just how good he really is and that he’s the real deal. Centurions will need to contain Santache who had a monster game last week if they want to walk away with their heads up high. I just don’t see it happening for them week 2.

Prediction : Game Changers

That’s it for this week. Expect to hear from me again in the following days or see me on the field watching those great plays or epic failures. Get in touch with me, it makes for better coverage and a better season overall. I’ll be at the fields, my email, [email protected] works and I’ll be watching twitter, @DagenaisFPF, closely this season. Leave it all on the field. Don’t forget to tune in to the Unclehood’s show. Scoop + GM actually make a pretty decent duo in the all-new Monday Mess. Is it just me or did GM wear the same shirt two days in a row? Including football night.
